Maks Zolin wanted to build a better, faster printer that was also quieter. He set out building the Voron printer in his garage but he ended up deciding that he didn't want to run a 3D printer company. So, he open sourced his work and invited others to collaborate with him. In this podcast conversation with Josh Zolin, I asked our guest if there was a recent business or leadership catchphrase that bugged him, without skipping a beat he said, "Yes! Give it your best effort." Josh is an advocate for helping young people recognize opportunities in the skilled trades, which is the impetus behind his book and podcast, both by the same name, Blue is the New White. As prominent as he has become as an author, podcast host, and speaker, Josh is also the owner of the rapidly growing WCE in Phoenix, Arizona where he is currently implementing the leadership challenge he shared. This thought-provoking question that Mr. Zolin dropped during our discussion has caused me to think through our understanding and implementation of EFFORT versus RESULTS in our local contracting company, ARES Restoration based in Puyallup, Washington. Josh continues, "This was a big mindset shift for me. Look, it's a good indication of character. But that's about where it ends." The episode also introduces the article that will be released in Cleanfax Magazine titled Goals, Effort and Results, Developing Your Team. In preparing for this podcast episode, I did some research. I found an article called The Effort Effect from Stanford magazine. In addition to our discussion with Mr. Zolin, we're going to be talking about the research efforts of a professor of psychology, Carol Dweck. “The best results are achieved by using the right amount of effort in the right place at the right time. And this right amount is usually less than we think we need.” - Tony Buzan For The DYOJO Podcast, Episode 88 we consider this question from Josh Zolin and review several others, such as the one above from Tony Buzan, with Kelsey Isaacson, a successful realtor in Pierce County, Washington. It is important for people in a position of leadership to question whether what they believe, practice and reward is leading their team down the right path to achieving their shared goals. Dweck's research uncovered many interesting insights about goals, performance, and achievement which we will discuss in this episode and dive deeper into for the Cleanfax article. As people in a position of leadership, it is important to take a step back and determine, with brutal honesty, whether we are developing the right mindset and habits for success; both for ourselves as well as for our teams. On today's podcast, I had Ryan Zolin on. Ryan is only 24 years old and he's about to do over 100 deals this year off of the MLS. A lot of people tell me the MLS is dead, that there aren't enough deals on there, and it's too competitive. Obviously it's not true! Ryan's doing it in one of the most competitive markets in the world, Phoenix, AZ! And the cool thing is that a lot of stuff he's doing in Phoenix is similar to what my MLS guy, Ray, is doing that helps us get over 50 deals off the MLS this year! I think that it's super cool being able to see his success when he's so young and for him to remain hungry and humble despite it. If I were having that much success as a young guy, I probably would have acted a bit different. Nonetheless, if you are looking to find deals off the MLS and how you can do it with zero marketing, this podcast is going to teach you exactly how to do that! Follow Ryan on social media! It's no secret that there is a labor shortage in the trades and it's no secret that a lot of the younger generation has turned away from it. There are so many things stacked against employers right now that make it a lot harder for them to make the next generation excited about getting into the trades. The CEO of Windy City Equipment, Josh Zolin, thinks this is mainly a result of the societal norms pushing the perception that blue-collar jobs indicate a lack of success. In his book, Blue Is the New White, Josh emphasizes how some of the most lucrative jobs out there are blue-collar jobs. Josh joins Ryan Englin in this episode to discuss how there is more than one path to a stable career and a great financial future. Success doesn't always have to mean a college degree and Josh is here to clear that trade misconception.

Join us for Episode 7 of Rollin' with Zolin where Ryan dives in on a personal topic, mental and physical health. Unfortunately not many business owners do a good job of balancing the two. Ryan did a really good job of focusing on developing mental strength, but neglected his physical well-being. As he started to focus more on his physical health he started noticing a drastic difference in his business production and day-to-day life. There is no guideline to follow on what the "right way" to balance mental and physical health is. However, if you are able to put effort into both, you'll be able to accomplish more all while being the best version of yourself. It's about finding what works best for you and staying consistent with it.

This week we feature another exciting guest, Ryan Zolin. We talk with Ryan about his real estate success, focus, building a business, and launching new businesses.
Today I interview the CEO of Windy City Equipment Service, former Hollywood stuntman, podcast host and author of, Blue is the New White - The Best Path to Success, No one told you about- Until Now, Josh Zolin. https://blueisthenewwhite.com/Last month on the show, I aired a two-part series where I was the guest on Josh’s podcast, Blue is the New White. Now the microphones are turned, and Josh will be sharing with us the lessons he learned on how to find success working in the trades. We’ll start todays conversation by learning why Josh walked away from an exciting career as a professional stuntman to help his father build and grow a successful multi-state equipment service company with over 50 employees. Next, well look into what inspired Josh to write his book and why he feels the notion that having a college degree is the only path to economic success, security and happiness, is an oversold illusion. Josh will later tell us what attributes and skills he feels are necessary to be competitive in the trades. And we will end our conversation when we find out how Josh’s defines success as a blue-collar worker. What's the single most valuable skillset for a skilled tradesman? Surprise, it's not 100 percent talent. Soft skills can be the secret ingredient for success in blue-collar trades, according to Josh Zolin, author of the book Blue Is the New White: The Best Path to Success No One Told You About and CEO of Windy City Equipment Services. Josh joined Service Logic Vice President Greg Crumpton and host Sean Heath on this new episode of Conversations from The EDGE with Service Logic. "I used to think soft skills were 50/50 versus technical prowess, but now I think overall EQ is superior," Josh said. "There's always help on the technical side, but being able to put the customer at ease far outweighs being able to read a meter or a set of gauges." Josh and Greg point to emotional intelligence, empathy for customers, and a service-minded attitude as traits that fall under the "soft skills" umbrella. "That's really the path to success," Josh said. But before the industry can extoll the virtues of soft skills, it must first change its perception. A career in the skilled trades was once well-regarded as a good, lucrative profession, but somewhere along the way society labeled skilled tradesmen as blue-collar and less desirable than college-educated white-collar workers, Josh explained. "The responsibility falls on us inside the trades to bring to light what a career in the trades actually means and how many different trajectories are available," Josh said. Greg said, "That means you have to reach out and bring people with you. It's all about relations."
In this episode we talk to an absolute wealth of knowledge in Eddie McFarlane, VP of Learning and Development at Haller Enterprises. Hailing originally from Scotland, Eddie came to America when he was 21 years old and began his career on the line. The kitchen line, as a chef. His next career was none other than a blue collar, salt of the earth, field technician. He worked his way through the ranks to the position he currently holds. As an avid learner, he eventually attended college to get a degree in business and, like so many others, has found success within the skilled trades. In this episode we talk all about the perception of the trades, coming of generations, and the people that make up this wonderful industry. Enjoy! https://blueisthenewwhite.com @joshzolin everywhere

Josh Zolin, author and CEO at Windy City Equipment discusses what the benefits are to joining the skilled trades as opposed to entering into a four year college program.
In this episode I focus on something that I've only touched on in almost every podcast I've ever done. What does failure mean? How does it relate to success? And, more importantly, how does that change when working with family? I'm not just talking about the skilled trades, HVAC, or Refrigeration here, I'm talking about a universal fundamental that you'll carry with you in every single aspect of your life.

Zárásképpen megegyeztünk a következő adás témájában is, ami a családi házak, kertek okosítása lesz.
