Play Episode Listen Later Jan 11, 2020 46:00

Joe Van Rhyn is a writer, who currently has four books available on Amazon.com with another due out in mid-2020. Joe was born and grew up in Wisconsin. In high school and college, he did a lot of theatre carrying the leads in over a dozen plays and musicals, including the Prince in Cinderella, Pish Tosh in The Mikado, and the villain, Cassius Carstairs in An Old-fashioned Melodrama. Joe always thought that he would one day write a Broadway play. It seemed business and raising children always took priority. The play never got written but he’s been happily married for 59 years, has three children, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Joe has had a successful business career. He’s a commercial artist, owned a silk-screening company in Wisconsin and established an advertising specialty distributorship when he moved to Las Vegas in 1978. Joe retired in 2014 at the spry age of 74 with the idea of writing “a book.” Without thinking too much of what that might entail, or unsure if he could actually sit down and do it, Joe embarked on this life-changing journey. Writing and producing these four books have been the most satisfying thing Joe’s ever accomplished in his life.  He’s become an author and has joined the ranks of that select group. Joe doesn’t profess to be in the same league as the greats, like Hemingway or Austin, but the thirst and struggle to write a compelling story is the same. When he set out to write that first book, Joe had two things in mind. It had to be set in a small Wisconsin resort town like the one where he grew up, and the characters would be similar to, or composites of, actual people he grew up with. Joe thought if he could capture that small-town flavour, he’d have a book people would enjoy reading. To learn more about Joe Van Rhyn and his work, please visit joevanrhyn.com.

Chanel Walker-Bailey is proud to say that she is a Certified Life Coach, Inspirational Speaker and Published Author. She shares these things humbly because it still wows her even when she hears herself repeat these accolades. It wasn't all that long ago that Chanel questioned her purpose and self-worth. She shares this UN-Apologetically and free from embarrassment. Professionally, Chanel has over 20 years of experience in the Healthcare Administration industry and is currently completing an advanced degree in Human Services with a concentration in Life Coaching. She founded The RealBoldTruth Ministries L.L.C. several years ago. It started off as a blog almost 6 years ago. An internet radio platform got hold of the blogs and invited Chanel to put them on the station. The radio station (Heart Ministry Radio) then launched a Television Arm and RealBoldTruth began to air as a visual weekly show on social media. Shortly thereafter, Chanel was invited to take part in another online internet program called "Straight Talk for Women Only" hosted by Victory Christian Fellowship in New Castle DE. Concurrently she became inspired to write a very unique tale about the presence of Angels. In 2017, Chanel authored Angels, The Discovery which is her first published novel.  She has also been called to speak about several venues and last year was the Key Note Speaker at a Major Healthcare Organization's event during their winter educational conference. The journey has been surreal and when she thinks about the beginnings she never thought some of the things she’s been blessed to do could ever be possible. This is just the beginning. Kory Livingstone, Juno Award nominee, composer, educator, pianist & vocalist was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, one of the world’s most culturally diverse cities and home to the Bluejays, Leafs, and Raptors. In his teens he discovered the great jazz innovators Thelonious Monk, Bill Evan; the rhythm of James Brown and the genius of Bach, Beethoven and Arnold  Schoenburg. These were who helped Kory make music his calling in life. "My first professional job as as musician was playing organ in an R&B band at a birthday party. We made two bucks each, which seemed a lot of money at the time. Man, it was a blast!” In Kory’s early career as a pro, he sang and played piano in the piano bars that accented just about every hotel and club in Toronto. This was where he learned the music business; performing 6 nights a week, in an environment of thick cigarette smoke and booze. As an entrepreneur, Kory founded the Toronto High School for the Performing - an independent school where students combined the study of academics and the performing arts. Graduates include Keanu Reeves (Matrix) Cree Summer Francks (Different World) and Karen Fox the youngest person ever to be accepted into Sarah Lawrence University. Recently Kory has returned to York University to realize his life-long dream of becoming fully bilingual in French. He also enrolled in an advanced composition course as well. His goal in this regard is to have access to the wealth of musicians, singers, choirs, and arrangers on campus, to experiment with in his compositions. He also expects to pick up additional tricks of the trade to add to his personal arsenal of composing skills. "Now is the time to start working on your goals because "The time will never be right.”" To learn more about Kory Livingstone and his work, please visit korylivingstone.com or email kory@korylivngstone.com.

Angela’s insatiable appetite for literature has always been a way for her to escape reality and imagine different lives for herself.
