I love sharing tools and apps that make marketing easier and more streamlined for business owners. When I sat down to write a podcast about my favorite apps, I kept adding to the list of things I loved about Canva and it became this episode. A quick reminder - I don't use affiliate links or marketing in my business. If I recommend a product, service, or provider it is because I'm a fan not because I'm getting paid to promote it. Should you be using stock images for social media? How many is too many? How can I still look like “me” and be authentic with my brand on social media? Tune in as Nat and Ang cover ALL of this! In today’s episode, Nat and Ang dive into how you can implement stock photography and images into your strategy. As a Brand Photographer and Social Stylist, they know the importance of creating brand reflective imagery and how important it is for social media. But they also recognize that the struggle is real and sometimes it is hard to constantly create unique images for your business. This is where stock photos can help! While it is important to invest in professional services, such as a branding photographer and good stylist; there will always be times when new imagery is needed. Stock images are great for small businesses to “pepper” in to their strategy. One of the best strategies for social media is consistency. And it can be hard to stay consistent when you’re constantly trying to find new images that work with your message. Tune in at 3:24 for a great example of how a service-based business can appropriately utilize stock photos. One of the best ways to do this is by choosing images that fit your brand and themes you share about. Images are visuals to storyteller so when you can create a great message with the right image, you can still reach your audience. At 6:39 Nat and Ang discuss a burning question…. How many stock images is too many? In short, two. This is the part you don’t want to miss as they explain why two is the ideal number of stock images to share in a certain period of time. And don’t forget - stock photography images can be manipulated! You can add text overlays, adjust the image size and add your own filters or edits! At 9:20, the ladies give a great example for product-based businesses and how they can also implement stock photography into their Instagram feed or on Facebook. They tie it all back to experience and storytelling. If your message corresponds with the image and you’re telling your story, stock images can still work for you! Stock images can be a great opportunity to save time and stay consistent on social.Where else can you use stock photography? Why not use in your Instagram Stories or for your Pinterest feed? They mention Word Swag which is a great app for creating amazing videos for IG Stories! And they are the perfect platform for stock photos. IGTV thumbnails and cover photos are a great spot for them as well. And lastly, using images from someone else’s account without the appropriate permission, that is the same as stealing. Screenshots from other peoples pages and shared on your own is a big no no.The Social Storytellers Community is open! But when that started back up, their cost per lead stunk. 2:39 - Kim mentions that got back up and running by changing their wording around with a softer approach, which helped their cost per lead. 3:00 - Kim talks about trying something new, but still using their Red, Black, and White ad colors. Kim mentions that Kelly, tried WordSwag and recreate their ads and colors. They ran the ads, but they did not work, and the cost per lead did not change. 4:10 - Kim says this may not be the issue for you, doing recreate ads, but stick with what works for you. Also, Kim strongly suggests checking the numbers because it always tells the truth. Resources Mentioned in this Episode 3daysto10k.com Powerful Professionals Facebook Page

Gesund? Sind das unsere Gemeinden und Pfarreien? Revitalisierung. Titelbild: Pixabay & WordSwag

DISNEY AULANI TIPS Outside of your regular rooms, the Disney Aulani has 1, 2, and 3 room villas that have a washer and dryer as well as a kitchen. Just note that villas book up very quickly. The Disney Aulani also has Disney Vacation Club units, but those are rarely available to non-owners. Head to the pool early to snag a chair, but at the beach you will also find chairs as well as attendants that you can order drinks and snacks from. If you do get up early and grab some chairs, keep an eye on your chairs. The chair attendants constantly walk around and if there is a towel on the chair they will fold it and put it on the back of the chair. This is a type of signal and timer. If you don’t move it they will eventually take the towel, opening up the chair for other guests. Kids clubs at Aulani is very similar to the kids clubs that are offered on Disney cruises. They provide a daily planner that will list all of the events and tell you if certain ones need to be registered for. Some activities need to be booked in advance or first thing in the morning. Make dinner reservations in advance, especially for character meals. Adventuring off the property is a great idea to experience some of the real island. Also not far is a beach where you will see turtles hanging around. FAVORITE TRAVEL GEAR Kristi loves to wear her Lulu Lemon leggings along with a long sleeve cardigan and a pair of tennis shoes. APPS OF THE WEEK Snapseed and VSCO are some great photo editing apps to use on your family vacation photos. These apps are a little on the professional side but with some video tutorials it can help you out a bit. Diptic is also a great app that can help you create collages to post on Instagram or other places. Word Swag is a great app to use if you would like to add words onto your photos. Welcome to Episode 364 of Hit the Mic with The Stacey Harris. All right guys 364, and we're talking about tools. Social media tools and what to use and is this the right one or is that the right one; is probably the question type I spend the most time answering. Especially, when I'm at events, and I'm speaking to people. A lot of times it's not really about what should I be hosting, or where I should be hosting, it's literally what can I use to make this easier. What can I use to make this more painless? How can I automate this in a way that makes sense. I want to talk about three types of tools that you need to have. Now, I will say that there are a whole plethora of options within these tool types to chose; I'm going to share my favorite in each category. Again, and I've said this before, and I guarantee I will say it again, maybe in this show; the best tool for the job is the one you are going to use. The smanciest, fanciest most wonderful tool that every expert recommends, is totally useless if you never open it. The best tools for the job is the one you will use, but I will tell you my three favorites the ones I use. Cool? All right. Let's jump in tool type number one; a scheduler. Now, I want to put a little asterisk next to this. Not everyone needs a scheduler. I do have a couple of coaching clients who focus mostly on Facebook and Instagram, and they don't use a scheduler. They use a scheduler inside Facebook, and they use an alarm reminder to schedule to their Instagram, and that's where they're at and that works perfectly for their demographic for their industry, for their ideal clients and for their set-up. There is no reason for them to pay X-Y-Z per month to have a scheduler, when that's the best option for them. That's my little side note there, but jumping back in, a scheduler Some option of posting is the most-most necessary tool. I use eClincher. There are a ton of reviews of tool options, and if you go down to the resources on the Show Notes page I will list links to those episodes. We talk about Buffer, Hootsuite, eClincher and Sprout Social. We talked about CoSchedule, and a whole plethora of choices. Again, the right one is the one you'll use. I use eClincher, because it allows me to do a couple of things. A. It allows me to have something called queues, where my content is actually recycled. That allows me to put all 364 episodes of this show and content for that in a list. It gets shaken up like a snowball, and those tweets go out. When the snow all settles, and the tweets have all been sent it gets shaken up again, and the whole process happens again, without me or someone on my team going in and making that happen. I really like eClincher. In addition to that, I have the option for social listening, because I've got my social inbox where all of my Facebook comments, LinkedIn messages Twitter replies and direct messages' sort of things come into one place. I can simply go in and monitor that space. I don't have to over and over and over and over again dig into each of those places. On the flip side of that, I can also schedule specific messages at specific times. If I'm a part of an affiliate promo, or I'm launching something, or there's something I need to go out on Tuesday at seven, I can schedule it to go out at one time. Tuesday at seven. I really like that. That's why I like eClincher. They've also got a lot of great built-in analytics and things like that. So, that's what I use. But a scheduler, something that's going to help you streamline the process of scheduling your social media foundation is really key. When I talk about your social media foundation, I'm talking about, and I've talked about this in past episodes, the content that has to go out. Your content. Your other peoples content. Your social messages. It's the content that you know goes out week after week, month after month, year after year. It's the baseline, the foundation, see how it's named that, of your social media time. So get that stuff out. Schedule that. Make time to do it once a week. A scheduler allows you to do that. That way when you're going in you can trust that your scheduler is taking care of your foundation and you can go in and engage. You can go on and post something live and fresh. Whatever it is. You can go focus on your groups. Whatever it is you need to do, you have that option. Again, ding-ding-ding, your scheduler has allowed your foundation to be going out. Cool? All right. Number two. A graphics tool. I'm not saying you have to have Photoshop, in fact in most cases you don't need Photoshop. I use Canva, and I'll be honest for some stuff we do use Photoshop. But we actually have templates that we had a designer build for us in Canva. We used those 98% of the time. We just rolled out new cover images and new Instagram quote graphics and stuff like that; guess what guys? We do those with Canva. It doesn't have to be a highly complicated tool. Again, there are a whole range of choices for you. I really love Canva. We even spring for the Premium version, I think it's like 12 or 15 bucks a month, and I think it's actually ten bucks a month if you pay annually. You end up with a couple of months free, so it kind of shaves it down to be less per month. Yeah, it doesn't have to be complicated, it can be simple. One thing I will say though. When you're using a tool like Canva, or some of these real quick social media graphic template-based tools, remember to make yours look like you and your brand. That does mean just adding your logo in place of whatever logo was defaulted in the template, because for a lot of people in the online business space we see those templates so often, and we know this tool so well I can identify a Canva graphic, nine times out of ten. They use one of the top six templates in the list and they didn't really do anything in the way of customization. So it looks like a Canva image to me. Their brand is completely washed out of it, because I immediately identify it as a Canva image. Do some tweaking. I'm sure there are some designers who can probably identify them at even a higher level than I can, but put a little bit of time in and you know what, if you really want invest in having a designer help you. I'm happy to give you the name of my designer, if you guys are interested in that. Send me a message. The team will get you her name, and put you in contact. But you need to make it look and feel like your brand or it's not representing you, it's representing Canva or whatever tool it is that you are using. Canva is certainly not the only game in town with that kind of stuff. Number two, a graphics tool. I'll also say that your graphics tool doesn't necessarily need to be desktop-based. For a lot of you that may be something on your phone. A editing app on your phone that you use. For example WordSwag is massively popular. Again, I can identify a WordSwag image pretty carefully. Make sure you give it your own feel. Don't use default everything, give it your own vibe. Graphics tool massively important, especially now, we know how important visual stimulation is in the grand scheme of social media. That's why photos and videos are doing so well. Number three, before we close this up, some sort of tool to collect your stats in. Now, I'm trusting that I don't need to mention that you are actually going into your Facebook insights, your Twitter analytics, your LinkedIn analytics, your Google analytics, and paying attention to your stats and that these numbers mean something and will give you information. However, you also need to collect that information somewhere. I actually keep it stupid stupid simple, we use Google Sheets to track things like followers count, engagement rates, click through rates, most popular links, and things like that. My friend Brandy Lawson over at FireyFx has been talking a lot about Google Data Studio, which is actually a really cool tool that we use to put together parts of our client's reports. So they can see what's happening on their website, it's a really cool option. You can absolutely be pulling those and collecting your data there, but also keep a record of those things. Again, I keep follower counts and stuff in Google Sheets. I keep a record of this stuff because guys social media is not an immediate payoff. It's not you hire someone or you start doing something or you make one tweak and suddenly the flood gates open. That's not what social media is for. It's a long-term game. You're looking at three, six, twelve months to start really seeing that you've got some solid leverage. Yes, little things should start happening. Follower count should start increasing. Engagement should start increasing. Low level sales may increase, the email list may start growing incrementally over time, but it is not a switch. It is not something you flip. When you have the numbers and you can look at them month over month, and quarter over quarter, and year over year, you really start to see the difference that's made when you just keep plugging away. You just keep doing the work. You just keep being of value. You just keep being consistent. You just keep sharing information and making those sales offers. Making those pitches. In the words of Gary V, "You're doing your jobs, but you're also doing your right hooks." All right guys, so make sure you are tracking that information and you are paying attention to it. Not just day to day, but over the long-term. So having some sort of tool where you collect those stats, that's going to be really valuable. That's the show for today. Big, big, big reminder. We have a brand new training happening Friday actually. It'll get released on Hit the Mic Backstage. This month is going to be our ... Next month ,rather, September is going to be a really good one. We're actually going to talk about how to use Facebook ads to engage a stale community. This is particularly important at this time of year, because maybe just maybe you have spent the last couple of months chilling out. Maybe not posting quite as much. Maybe not engaging your community and now you want to launch something. Now you want to release your program or grow your e-mail list so you can launch something in January, whatever it is. You want to hit those numbers that you set in January of this year. So we're going to talk about setting up your Facebook ads to engage that community. If you would like to join us, and I know you would, HittheMicBackstage.com is the place to go. And I will see you backstage in the private V.I.P. lounge, and of course the Facebook group, and of course I'll see you again here next Tuesday. See you soon.
I'll be honest: one of my least favorite aspects of blogging is creating images. Graphic design has never been my strong suit, so selecting and manipulating images has always been something I've just tolerated. At the same time, images are an important part of the reader experience. We are visual creatures, and a screen full of text with no images is pretty boring to read. For several years, I struggled with figuring out a good way to produce quality images for my blog. But the last year or so, I have been using the Word Swag app, which helps me create high-quality images in just a few minutes. In this episode, you'll learn why I love this app and how it can help you create images for your blog. I'll also point you to a video walkthrough of the app to show you exactly how to use it. HubnSpoke | HubSpotting with Adam Steinhardt and Zaahn Johnson
Is Inbound Marketing the same as Content Marketing? Is there such a thing as Inbound Content Marketing? So what is the difference? Should you do both inbound marketing and content marketing? Do you need both? Are you using traditional media and want to get better at digital advertising but are not sure where to start? In Episode 39 of HubnSpoke, our inbound marketing expert team of Zaahn Johnson and Adam Steinhardt dig deep into the power of digital marketing and which marketing methods do what best. So what exactly is inbound marketing? Inbound marketing is the process of using essential elements of your website to attract then guide your prospects down the sales funnel on your website. It's the process engaging them with helpful website information. With well placed and appropriate calls to action and relevant email nurturing offers, inbound marketing helps your prospects on their journey of trust. Companies that published 16+ blog posts per month got almost 3.5X more traffic than companies that published 0-4 monthly posts. (HubSpot, 2015) (Source: https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics) This is where the HubSpot automated sales and marketing software is so strong, as it provides you with the tools to get digital marketing done more efficiently. Many users find that HubSpot is better than Wordpress for Inbound marketing. Wordpress is a common platform for creating websites. Especially if you are wanting an automated sales and marketing platform with a CRM built in. So where does content marketing fit in? What is Content Marketing? Wikipaedia defines content marketing as Content marketing is a form of marketing focused on creating, publishing and distributing content for a targeted audience online. It is often used by businesses in order to: Attract attention and generate leads Expand their customer base Generate or Increase online sales Increase brand awareness or credibility Engage an online community of users Unlike other forms of online marketing, content marketing relies on anticipating and meeting an existing customer need for information, as opposed to creating demand for a new need. source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_marketing It's critical, if you're going to get ROI out of inbound marketing, you have to create content. The consumers have all the power. They're the ones who can read the websites, discover, and learn what's out there all the websites of the world. 96% of B2B buyers want content with more input from industry thought leaders. (Demand Gen Report, 2016) (Source: https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics) For businesses, it's absolutely part of your job now to create content and provide information to the customers via your website. This week we look at two revamped tools, Basecamp and Wordswag. Plus our team of HubSpot experts dig deep into the HubSpot Workflows tool with bold new ways to make the tool more powerful.

Proprio i filtri secondo me valgono tutta la app. A me piacciono in particolare i filtri enfasi e noir.

“How To Get Even More Qualified Leads Into Your Facebook Funnel” In this episode, Kim discusses how to get more leads from your lead magnets. Key Takeaways! In your prospecting funnel on Facebook, you want to: Make sure that you are developing your expertise. Use it as a way to broadcast your lead magnet, in a gentler way to your audience. Utilize it as an inexpensive way to get more leads. Use it as a way to connect with your perfect prospect, who will want to buy your product. You need to determine what it is that people can use. It needs to be of value. It needs to be so valuable in fact that people would want to want it even it wasn’t free. It needs to save your audience time or money, or make them time or money. You want to include social proof. Give your audience next steps at the end of your lead magnet. If they like your product, what can they do next to get more of it? Make sure that they are liking what YOU sell, not someone else’s product. Make your lead magnet congruent. Offer your audience tools such as a script, a checklist or a grid, a blueprint, a resource list, or templates. To make a hyper fast lead magnet you need to: Outline your blueprint, checklist, or script. Submit your assignment to Textbroker.com and have them write your descriptions for you for a small fee. Write an opening and closing paragraph for your lead magnet. Create a cover design and pull out some quotes as images on Wordswag. Create a landing page on Leadpages. Tell your prospects why they should open the report. In today's episode of The Art of Passive Income, Mark and Scott discuss marketing and why being responsive is essential when building up your buyers list. People want to know that they are dealing with a real person with a legitimate business and the best way to convey that is through phone communication! How can you take your buyer list from 2 to 200? Leverage the platforms. Be consistent—Always show up! Continuously move forward with marketing. Put yourself out there. And most importantly, be responsive! PLUS, don't think of tire kickers as just tire kickers, they are potential future customers. They may not buy today, but if they are calling you they are interested so they will buy something, someday! Listen in as the guys share their experiences and delve deep into taking your marketing to the next level. Tip of the week: Mark: Check out Canva.com. And secondly, watch Impractical Jokers. This program has been around for four seasons now. It's about four friends who make each other do pranks. I think it's good training to help teach you to get out of your comfort zone of traditional social convention. By getting out of your comfort zone, you'll be surprised by how far you can move the needle. Scott: I recommend Word Swag. It's one of those apps that allows you to put in a picture and put some text in there and customize everything. I even used it to get my point across to my daughter. However, there's a similar free app called Adobe Post. Isn't it time to create passive income so you can work where you want, when you want and with whomever you want?
It’s been a very quiet week for LinkedIn, no news to report whatsoever, the bickering about Facebook type posts and inappropriate content continues of course but to be honest, I’m really bored of that now! LinkedIn have been sending out a survey which suggests that they might be considering having adverts in groups, not display ad’s but in the stream of ‘conversations’ - please no! We finally have new settings! The only news of any note is that the new settings design has finally arrived in my account, I’m going to write a full report that will be sent to subscribers of my LinkedIn updates service this weekend so if you haven’t already signed up, now is the time to do so! The 5C Business Development System is now for sale! ….and for a limited time it’s discounted by a massive 63%! I’m really proud of this course, I was looking at some of the earlier lessons and I actually started recording the videos 9 months ago! It’s taken a lot of work to get to this position and it doesn’t end here as I will need to update all the ‘settings’ lessons with the new design. The 5C system contains 5 modules as below; In total there are 65 videos covering every aspect of using LinkedIn as an effective business development tool. I’m very excited to see how people react to this course and I hope you can take advantage of the limited time launch price (just £146 but only for 7 days, then it will be £396). Just click here for more information. Social Selling & LinkedIn. Standing out from the crowd is increasingly difficult these days…on and offline and especially on LinkedIn….have you seen just how much ‘stuff’ appears on your homepage?! I believe the key to standing out involves 2 things; Highly visible posts/updates. Using images is no longer a desirable action, it’s absolutely essential if you want people to see your updates. My two favourite tools are Wordswag for mobile and Canva for desktop. Images are much bigger (and therefore more effective) when added directly into Linkedin rather then via a 3rd party app/site like Buffer or Hootsuite. Credibility. This will only be gained through the quality of what you do and what you share - content is critical to building credibility on LinkedIn. Do you share great content? Do you create useful, interesting content? Even if an update grabs my attention, I rarely read it unless it is from someone I trust to only produce or share great content. Once you have gained views and reader you will gain more followers and most importantly you will be on track to develop greater trust and this is much more likely to result in winning more business. Social Networking in Real Life - SOCIAL EXPERIMENT Have you see this great video from Jena Kingsley? It really made me chuckle, especially the bit about endorsements and the anonymous viewer on the subway! https://youtu.be/_pyJlERCrJE Cool Thing This weeks cool thing comes from a listener, Carl Whalley who found that when linking to his site, LinkedIn often didn’t find the right image on a post - or at times no image at all. This works seamlessly on other sites but LinkedIn seemed to be having problems. As Carl explains “The heart of this issue is "Open Graph" support, which Googling for will provide more details. Typically, the source site will be Wordpress or Joomla etc, and it’s actually the sites fault by not identifying the images as Open Graph compliant”. The fix for the site is usually simple - just install a plugin and the correct meta tags will be automatically added to the page, allowing the user to choose the image they want. So if your blog icon Wordpress and you find you have had this problem you might find adding the plugin to your Wordpress site sorts it out. Thanks Carl.

Content types for event social media is the topic of this week's Tourism Tweetup the Podcast episode and the guest this week is me! I have been speaking on the topic of how to develop a social media plan for local and regional events at many conferences this year and although it would be tough to fit that into one podcast episode in this episode we drill into one small aspect of that which is around content types and ideas for your event social media plan. I have developed an online course about how to develop a social media plan for local and regional events click on the link and watch the welcome video to find out more or you can always email me at holly@gofuturemedia.com In this episode we first start by talking about an editorial calendar and how that is different to a content calendar. We go into both an editorial calendar and a content calendar, their roles and importance. I refer to Twitter Moments #ownthemoment which can be useful for putting together an editorial calendar. Listen around the 10 minute mark about why having a content calendar helps you say no. I then talk about creating content for Pre event During event and Post event Within Pre Event I discuss the importance of content not being to general but getting quite granular and specific (listen around the 6 minute mark for more). Here are examples of pre event content We then talk about three types of on the day live content. We discuss Pre Scheduled Content Live Content User Generated Content Pre Scheduled Content is important and it really takes the pressure off all the activities happening on the day of your event. [Tweet "Pre Scheduled Content is important & it takes the pressure off all the activities happening on the day of your event."] Listen in around the 13 minute make for more on this - its important!! Types of content you might like to pre schedule include kick off welcome message, sponsor messages and acknowledgements, program highlights, logistics and reminders. Live content adds the colour to the day of your event. Listen in around the 16 minute mark [Tweet "Live content adds the colour to the day of your event."] Word Swag is a handy app to use to briton up your content which puts text over images. User Generated Content (UGC) is an important content type to use in your event. We want to encourage user generated content and to do this we can make sure people are ahead of time what the hashtag is. I give a heap of other suggest from the 19 minute mark. [Tweet "User Generated Content shows your event from different perspectives."] Read more about UGC from an earlier post. Post Event Content Don't stop posting on social media just because the event has finished. You want to slowly ween people off you you don't want your fans to think you have left them high and dry. Listen for more details on this from the 20 minute mark including ideas for post event content. Thats a wrap! Your Listening to the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show 181 and on today’s show, I am bringing my 3rd broadcast audio from Periscope, the latest and greatest new social media platform and app! Have you been on yet? Trust me, you have First Mover Advantage if you will just jump in! Learn more about how to do this! We will cover the 8 Laws of Periscope Success! Need some coaching to move you forward? My one on one and inner circle programs are LIVE! Are you looking for coaching to be successful in your Network Marketing business? Want to also learn how to generate your own leads online? My Inner Circle Coaching Program may be just what you need. Or, maybe it's one on one coaching. Learn more about both at StreetSmartWealth.com/coach Check the podcast archives on the blog at JackieUlmer.com for previous episodes if you missed any or are new to the show. 8 Laws of Periscope Success for Direct Sales Law 1 - Power Profile - your profile or bio is your first chance to make a great impression. Spend some time there. Get a clean, clear headshot of YOU. Not your products, or logo, unless you are seriously scoping as a brand. State clearly what you do, the problem you solve, and what value they will find. It may take some thinking as you don’t have a lot of characters. 160 characters are available and only 117 show when someone views it so make that first 117 count. Use a few emojis to create impact. Add your link in including the http because it can be clicked on the desktop site, although not on the app. Law 2 - Create Compelling Titles - your title is what people will read when deciding if they want to watch your scope. Both your followers and those who are just perusing the app looking at what’s live will make their decision based on this. Use 1-3 hashtags, and state clearly what the topic will be and then stick to it. Use some CAPS in the title to draw interest and emojis. Law 3 - Connect Your Twitter Account - I’ve shared this above but want to re-iterate the importance of this here. Even if you forget to announce your upcoming broadcast on all channels, if your Twitter account is connected, it will automatically announce when you hit Start Broadcast. Law 4 - Plan Ahead and Announce on Other Social Media Channels - Prepare ahead of time and create a simple graphic using Canva, WordSwag (only on IOS), Photoshop, or any other graphic program and share on other platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. Law 5 - Meet, Greet, and Start - It’s important to create engagement and community with your audience and gain more loyalty and followers. Just like you would greet someone who comes into your store, say hello as best you can as people enter the room. Invite them to share where they are from and maybe something to break the ice like - Law 6 - Ask for What You Want - CTA - give calls to action, as people will often do what they are told! Ask them to share and tell them how to do it. Ask them to give you hearts, and tell them how to do it. Ask them to follow you, and tell them how to do it. Ask them to like your Facebook page, visit your website and so on. Ask, ask, ask! Don’t assume they just automatically know to do it! Law 7 - Law of Reciprocity - Give to Get. If you follow, share, engage, give feedback and are a Go Giver, it will come back around. If you want hearts, share hearts. IF you want follows, follow others. If you want shares, share the content of others. Law 8 - Provide Value First, and Don’t Just Advertise - as I mentioned above, it’s okay to sell, as we are all in business and that is the bottom line. Be strategic in how you sell though. Give value and quality and you will make sales! I LOVE and appreciate reviews! Go to JackieUlmer.com/itunes or JackieUlmer.com/stitcher to leave your review and be entered into a drawing for a free month of coaching. As humans, we are hardwired to connect emotionally with visual content. Pictures in particular--we process them very quickly--faster than text, video, or audio. Pictures allow us to make a really quick decision about whether we are going to engage with something. It's no secret that some of the most successful brands in the world owe their popularity to their visual content strategy. Notice I said strategy--in other words, not just any visual content will do. Fortunately, one of the world's biggest experts in visual social media and content strategy is also a good friend of mine. You probably know Donna Moritz already as the power behind Socially Sorted, the award-winning blog about using visual content on social media. I know her as my #1 student from the very first Profit Lab course I ever launched. She's also shown up on this site more than once. But today, Donna is here to school me--and you--in how to set up a visual content strategy that supports your sales and sends your message. She's also put together an amazing freebie for us--a three-part video series that walks you through the process of creating polished imagery. This is where you'll learn how to use all the tools mentioned in this episode. Trust me--it's a must-have. EPISODE FREEBIE Get Donna Moritz's Free Guide To Creating Visual Content FREE DOWNLOAD Before she became the renowned expert she is today, Donna learned all the ins and outs of visual content strategy through simple practice. After working in several different businesses--sometimes for others, sometimes for herself--she saw how visual content really created that initial resonance with a target audience that makes them want to learn more. The main thing with your visual content is to "stop the scroll"--in other words, arrest your audience's attention so that their finger pauses above their mouse or smartphone screen, and they take the time to engage with your message. The more Donna learned, the more excited she got about the potential of various kinds of visual content. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the sheer variety of visual content styles out there, don't worry--Donna is here to break it into three basic levels. These are the really easy-to-create, easy-to-share individual images that would be on Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. Think funny photos, behind-the-scenes shots, images that incorporate quotes, tips or other short bits of text. They are really a good jumping-off point to lead into a longer message. Here is a sample batch of quote images, observational humor, business tips, questions and motivational images ready to go (and all created on Canva and WordSwag). These types of images are designed to increase reach and engagement. Shareable images get their strength from their simplicity. But that doesn't mean you can only use them for short, simple concepts. By attaching an image with a call to action or link, you can increase shares (such as retweets on Twitter) and generate more visits to your blog or other "landing content." Also, remember that tweets with images get retweeted twice as often...so post images! Remember, on all platforms, it is important to keep a balance of your own helpful and entertaining content, and curated content from other pages or businesses. This earns you the right to post some promotional images with calls to action. You can also work with your designer if you want to save time (and money) or can't design the images yourself. Ask your designer to create a template which you can then add text to. This way, you can create a series of quotes or tips using a great design, but reduce the cost and time involved in hiring a designer. One image becomes many! Using this template, she can create multiple images using a tool like Canva or Picmonkey 2. Step-by-Steps Checklists, how-to images and tutorials are all great examples of "Step-by-Step" images. This format is deal for sharing procedures, systems or "secret sauces" with your community. These images work particularly well on Pinterest and get shared a lot. This kind of visual content doesn't need to be fancy or even overly designed--they just need to be helpful and easy to use. Remember, people love shortcuts...so with these images, they're probably going to look right past the bells and whistles of a great visual design to get to the content you're offering! Social media expert Andrea Vahl did a great series of simple checklists to help her readers on her blog. 3. Showpieces Showpieces are the pieces of content that require more investment of time and resources but are most likely to bring better return in terms of sharing and traffic. This includes infographics, slide decks and short video. Donna recently posted a blog of her own about these three levels of visual content, with even more info about each one. It's called "9 Ways to Take Your Visual Content Up a Level," and it's definitely worth checking out. Don't miss all of Donna Moritz's tips on where and how these three levels of images work. Click here to listen to Episode #61 in full. Get Creative If you're reading this and thinking it doesn't apply to you because you're not a "creative type," think again! The amazing tools that are available out there right now--tools like PicMonkey, WordSwag and (my personal favorite) Canva--are set up so that anyone can create simple but stunning visual content. Don't worry if you don't have a "designer's eye"--these tools have templates so that all you have to do is plug in your favorite background, choose a font you like, and voilà! Beautiful, polished, eye-catching imagery. One important thing to note, however, is that size matters. Different platforms will have different optimum size requirements for your image. Donna has a blog post all about that, as well--just click here to find her 5 Social Media Size Hacks for Quick Visual Content. There's so much more to learn about visual content strategy in my interview with Donna, so make sure to listen to the whole episode. Also, click here to get the amazing freebie she designed for us--it's a three-part video series where she walks you through the specifics of how to create images. It's a must-have for anyone who's ready to put their visual content strategy into action. EPISODE FREEBIE Get Donna Moritz's Free Guide To Creating Visual Content FREE DOWNLOAD
The BizChix Podcast: Female Entrepreneurs | Women Small Business | Biz Chix
Click for Shownotes Ladies this is message to you, but the truth is it is first a message to myself because it is what I need to hear most right now. You know how they tell you on a plane to put your own oxygen mask on first before you help anyone else. It seems so counterintuitive. As women we are raised to think of others before ourselves. But if we don’t follow those very important instructions in an airplane emergency, we may endanger ourselves and our children. I find the same true in day to day life. If we don’t take time to take care of ourselves, it impacts our whole world and may endanger our relationships and our own health. My Breaking Point In the last 3 years I have had two babies and launched a new business. That was on top of raising a teenager, running another business with my husband, running a home and being a wife. To say the least it has been a busy time. Recently, I hit a breaking point. I had baby Jett almost 9 months ago and feel like my home, my health and even my relationship with my husband has gotten out of control. I started thinking about changes I could make and who I could use as a guide. Guess what – the role model was right there in front of me. My awesome Mom, Roseanne Cook. I realized my Mom had unknowingly passed on lessons on how I could “put my oxygen mask on first”, without ever speaking a word about it. She passed on this wisdom by how she lived, what she made a priority and what she did not. 7 Important Lessons from My Mom How to Take Care of You So You Can Take Care of Others Take Care of Your Body My Mom has always taken care of her body by working out and eating healthy food. She has a slight leg up in this in that she was a combination English/PE major in college and was teaching middle school PE when she had me and later was an adaptive PE teacher (which means she is skilled in adapting activities to kids with down syndrome, autism and other special needs). When I was growing up in the 70’s, there weren’t a bunch of gyms and yoga studios around, but my Mom would work out at the YMCA or speed-walk around the neighborhood. In the 80’s she got into Jazzersize and the last 10 years she has been doing a lot of low impact workouts like water aerobics and yoga. What I realized is that my Mom makes working out a priority in her week. Even when we had a crazy busy schedule of after school activities, she would often walk the track at the school where my brother and I had swim practice. Next Step: My takeaway is that I need to schedule workouts and mark them on my calendar. If I don’t plan them and arrange for childcare or my husband to help, they are not going to happen. I’m happy to report that I have gone to spin class 3 times in the last 7 days (twice at 5:45AM). Maintain Your Friendships Earlier this year I had a tear fest crying to my husband about feeling really lonely. I have a lot of friends “online” who I interact with every day, but have struggled to find time to meet a local girlfriend for lunch or coffee. The root of this is feeling that I need to use the time I have my nanny here to work (not workout or see a friend). My Mom is huge on connecting in person with people and throughout my life I have observed her cultivating and making time for her friends. She used to have regular lunch date with her BFF Kay or they would just pop by each others houses for a cup of coffee and a chat. She also would go shopping and out to lunch once in a while with her friend Mary. My parents were part of a Bunco group that met once a month at each other’s homes. If you don’t know what bunco is you can google it. But basically it is a dice game and they would share a meal each time and have prizes. I remember it being fun when it was hosted at our house because I got to hang out with my parent’s friends while they snacked on yummy appetizers and desserts, then see my parents having fun with their friends as I headed off to bed (make no mistake I often got snuck of bed to see more of the fun…at least until I got caught). Next Step: I don’t need to feel guilty about using time I have childcare to see a friend. Also, this is something that I need to plan ahead and schedule for. There are also a few women I have met that I want to get to know better. They have kids my boy’s ages so I can reach out to them to meet at the park for a playdate and don’t need childcare for that. Mark and I really enjoy hanging out with other families and we need to be more intentional about that. I’m happy to report that I have started meeting a local business friend for coffee once a month and am being intentional about scheduling time with my girlfriends and it just fills me up when we get together! Date Your Husband One of the things I appreciate most about my parents marriage which is closing on 45 years strong is that I know my Mom and Dad are still in love. They truly enjoy each others company and have maintained a passionate relationship through the ups and downs of life. My parents always dated each other. One of my favorite memories is of my parents getting dressed up in the 70’s in their disco outfits and going out dancing. It is still fun to see my parents moves on the dance floor. They showed me that their marital relationship is a priority. As a Mom myself now, I know all the work that goes into planning a date. My mom had to arrange a sitter, figure out our dinner and possibly plan the date too (since this seems more like her skill set than my dad’s). Next Step: Mark and I really need to work towards a weekly date night, but for now we can start with once a month and work up to the once a week goal. For now daytime dates are OK, since baby Jett is very mommy-centric at night. Also, we can meet for lunch during the week when our nanny is here or my Mom is here for the day. For our stage of life, it involves a bit of creativity. Yeah we went on a date a few weeks ago. I booked my nanny to come for 4 hours on a Saturday. My parents are coming this Friday for the day and we are both going to take the day off work to spend time together. Hire Help I’m so thankful my Mom showed me it is OK to hire help. I spent my formative years in a very blue collar town and doubt that anyone else in our neighborhood had a housekeeper. When I was in elementary school, my Mom worked full time and my Dad worked full-time plus he was starting his own civil engineering business on the side. When I interviewed my Mom about how she has maintained a Productive Home, my mom shares that she decided “I was worthy to have help with my home.” This also included help fixing things too. My Dad is super handy and can fix almost anything, but if he is too busy my Mom will hire those projects out. Next Step: While I have outsourced a lot in my home and am thankful to have a nanny who helps me 3 days a week, I do need to find a few babysitters that are available for hire for date nights. Also, I want to hire an organization consultant to come help me with some problem areas in my home. In addition, I need to call our handyman to come do things Mark is too busy to do. I have not made any progress in this area yet, but stay tuned! Pamper Yourself (hair cut/color, nails, now massages) My Mom showed me it was OK to take spend money on pampering myself. She had those acrylic nails in the 80’s and 90’s and of course she rocked an awesome perm. So, I saw my Mom making herself a priority and often accompanied her to get her nails or hair done. Next step: I have a tendency to wait until things are looking really bad before I make a grooming appointment. It comes back to scheduling. I need to plan in advance when my next few hair appointments are. Also, I want to get a manicure and pedicure once a month, staring this week (my toes need help). Have Hobbies I saw throughout my life that my Mom had other interests besides work and being a Mom. She usually was involved in some type of art activity. For years it was toll painting. In the last 10+ years, she has gotten really into gardening. First it was growing roses, which is perfect since her name is Roseanne. But now, she and my Dad are really focused on growing their own food. My Mom also has spent a lot of time volunteering with organization that benefit children with special needs like the Special Olympics or Autism Camps. In addition, she serves at her church in a variety of ways. Next step: So I realize I do not have a hobby right now unless you consider posting to social media for biz or personal a hobby. Does making images in Canva or Wordswag count? No, I don’t think so. I used to like to make homemade cards and I started knitting a few years ago, but only ever made a few scarfs. I’m not sure what my next hobby is going to be, but I am going to open myself up to something new. Stay tuned for that too. Take Time to Look Nice My Mom always looks put together. It’s not like she waltzes around the house dressed like June Cleaver. She just sets some time aside each morning to take a shower, get dressed and throw some make-up on. Granted she doesn’t have little kids to deal with, but she did this even when we were little. In fact, my Dad leaves the house every day around 5AM to go work out and then get to work early, so my Mom figured out how to shower safely with two little ones. She would lock us all in the bathroom while she took a shower. I remember trying so hard to break out of there while she showered with the door half open so she could check on our mischief. I also remember watching my Mom sit in front of her vanity mirror and put on her make-up. I often find myself halfway through the day still unshowered and in yoga pants. Ok, let’s be real, it sometimes is the end of the day and I am smelly and in yoga pants and never worked out. Also, when we are going somewhere as a family, I spend time getting everyone else ready, packing the diaper bag and snacks that I’m left with little or no time for myself, so I end up with my hair in a ponytail and trying to put on mascara in the car which doesn’t always end well. Next step: I need to make getting me ready a priority especially when we are going somewhere as a family. Also, I can delegate some of the tasks I normally do to help the family leave to my husband or daughter or get stuff ready the night before. I also need to be honest with myself about whether or not I am going to work out. If it is not going to happen, I need to get dressed into real clothes. Hey no offense if you live in yoga pants, but I don’t feel my best going out in public in them. So thanks Mom for teaching me these 7 ways to take care of myself. I’m prepared to put my oxygen mask on first now. How do you put yourself first and what other tips did your Mom or other mentors teach you? Share in the comments below or Tweet Me! You're smart. You never believed the people who said “there's no money in Social Media”. You thought the people who said Social was all about “pictures of what people had for lunch” or “videos about cats” were missing the point. Yes, those things are popular on Social Media… and it's also true that Social Media is a vital marketing medium that can bring big rewards, monetary and otherwise when done right. Just ask Taylor Swift, Oreo, the folks behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, or even President Barack Obama. Just knowing Social Media Marketing is important, however, is not enough. You must know how to do it right – or at least how to not do it wrong. Today's episode will address what I consider to be the 5 Social Media Marketing Mistakes you are most likely making right now… and how to fix them. Tip Of the Week I have not one, but three tips for you this week! Tip #1: Smart Podcast Player First, I'm very excited about the new podcast player we are using on our website. You know, that little “play” button you click to hear audio on the web, such as listening to podcast episode? Up until now we were using a very primitive podcast player. But we just switched the Pat Flynn's Smart Podcast Player. Pat created the player for his own enormously popular podcast. Here's what he says about it: I created this custom player with my team because I wanted a better listening experience for my audience. They deserve the best. After sharing the player with my audience, I received hundreds of requests from other podcasters who wanted to use the player too, and so the Smart Podcast Player was born. You put an immense amount of time and care into creating your podcast; the player you use should reflect that. My team and I have put the same attention and care into building the Smart Podcast Player. I know that you (and your listeners) will love it. Some of the features and benefits: Works with any feed, from any host, anywhere. Looks amazing the design is clean and modern, and you can customize it to match your site perfectly. Lets your listeners explore, discover, and share. The Smart Podcast Player has an interactive library that allows your listeners to explore past episodes in your backlist without interrupting the episode that’s playing. The player also empowers your listeners to search your backlist by tag, download their favorite episodes in MP3 format, and share episodes with their friends. Your library of episodes updates automatically anytime you publish a new episode to your feed. All metadata is available, episode description included. Your listeners can control the speed of the currently playing episode just like they enjoy doing when they use today’s latest podcast mobile apps. It's also got rave reviews from podcasters like John Lee Dumas, Michael Hyatt, and Jaime Tardy of the Eventual Millionaire podcast. And this one is a big deal that I think doesn't get enough emphasis: there's a direct “Subscribe In iTunes” button on the player. Spiritual Foundations Satan Is No Longer Allowed To Accuse You Of Anything Recently a friend expressed worry that his troubles were because of Satan. My friend said to me, “I just know this problem is happening because Satan is the ‘accuser of the brethren', making sure God is aware of my every sin.” He was referring to a passage from Revelation 12:10: “Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.” (NKJV) Many people believe that this is still going on, and that the “casting down” comes at the end of time. But that is not true. A careful reading of Revelation in the context of the rest of the New Testament shows that this “casting down” of the “accuser of the brothers” has already happened. “Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.” Romans 8:33 In book of Job, Satan is in God's presence and us griping about Job (see Job 1:6-12). Now here's the question I have about this scene: what the heck is Satan doing at God's throne? That's God's most holy place. How can Satan be allowed there? It's pretty simple: we gave him our pass to the throne room of heaven. Adam bowed to the will of Satan in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3, and that means's Satan was able to take Adam's place and could come before God. Satan became “the accuser of the brothers” – he did nothing but bend God's ear with lies about us. Then something amazing happened. The “last Adam”, Jesus Christ, gave his own blood and cleansed the things of Heaven (Hebrews 9:22-24). The work Jesus did, which he called “finished”, redeemed the place where Satan stood before God. There's no place in heaven for Satan. He cannot come before God and accuse you or me. Those days are over. The next bit of good news is who is in God's presence today – and that would be JEsus. He is there on our behalf (Hebrews 9:24). And so now who can condemn or accuse us? “Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” Romans 8:34 Listen, as I read the book of Job I see it contains many theological knots. I can't untie half of them. I do know that much of it is bad theology, presented as just that. God himself says that Job's friends spoke wrongly about Him, invalidating much of the text as theology. Job wanted someone to plead on his behalf. (Job 9:33) We actually have what Job desired – we have Jesus as our representative, and he is interceding for us (1 Timothy 2:5). So… what does Satan do now? The only thing he can do: he comes to you and me, here on earth, and accuses us through our conscience. His only weapon is lies. His weapon is only effective if we believe the lies. He has no power. (Colossians 2:15) So if you find yourself thinking that God's will is for you to be sick, or hurting, or hungry… or that God is punishing you for your sins… don't buy into that garbage! Don't listen to Satan's lies. God justifies you, and nobody, not even the devil himself, has the power to come before God and accuse you. You, just like Jesus, have free and total access to God's throne of grace to “obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need”. (Hebrews 4:16) Revel in your righteousness, and know that all your sin-debt has been paid, you are free, and there's no one left to accuse you. Imagine yourself in the place of the woman caught in the act of adultery. Here accusers dragged her to Jesus, accusing her. He turned the accusers away and… When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” John 8:10-11 That's what he's saying to you and me today: “Neither do I condemn you.” Feature Presentation: Are You Making These 5 Social Media Marketing Mistakes? Social Marketing is more important now than ever. If you don't believe that, or don't understand why its true, hasten thyself over to Social Media Examiner and get the Sixth Annual Social Media Marketing Industry Report. It is 50 pages, and over 80 charts worth of data from 2,800 organized into an important and comprehensive report. It will open your eyes to just how important Social Media Marketing is to you and your business. Based on that report, Mike Stelzner gave a fantastic keynote at Social Media Marketing World 2015, where he outlined the 8 major trends all marketers must know about in 2015. After spending two and a half days at the conference last week, attending sessions, taking notes like a madman, listening to the podcasts and reading several books by presenters at the conference, plus reading a pile of articles on Social Media Examiner, I decided to create this Social Media-focused show. So here are the 5 Social Media Marketing Mistakes you are most likely making… and how to fix them. Pronto. Social Media Marketing Mistake #1 Failure to have a Strategic Social Media Marketing System. “Strategic” means: the identification of long-term or overall aims and interests and the means of achieving them. “System” means: a set of principles or procedures according to which something is done; an organized scheme or method. Thus, a Strategic Social Media Marketing System is: A set of principles and procedures of using Social Media with the overall aim of increasing the profitability of the enterprise. Do you have such a system? Is it written down? Does the document clearly define the intent of the system? Does it define, step-by-step, how to activities are to be conducted to achieve the Strategic Objective? Could anyone on your staff or team execute the instructions based solely on the written procedure? If not, you don't have a system. How To Fix Mistake #1: Develop a written document that spells out the principles and procedures of using Social Media with the overall aim of increasing the profitability of the enterprise. Social Media Marketing Mistake #2 Failure to have a consistent branding presence across Social Media Platforms. Your images, logos, and profile pages look different across all the different services, including your own blog. Your logo, colors, and design scheme are just a hodgepodge of what you used at the time you signed up for any given network. How To Fix Mistake #2: Get a professional logo design and headshot made, if you don't already have them. Know what your design color palette is and use it. Then, change your images, logos, and profile pages should look alike across all the different services, including your own blog. Your logo, colors, and design scheme should always match. And if you have a personal brand, use the same headshot on all the services… and make sure it looks like you! Social Media Marketing Mistake #3 Failure to understand the different Social Media services. The rules – both written and unwritten – differ from service to service. the proper way to be a valued member of each community is to understand its culture and behave accordingly. Proper behavior looks different on LinkedIn than on Google+ or Facebook, and Facebook profile etiquette is different from the etiquette for Facebook pages. And Twitter is different from all the rest. Unfortunately, many (most) marketers have never taken the time to really learn the culture of the networks they are part of. These same marketers then don't understand why their “social” marketing “doesn't work.” Here's a clue: If everywhere you go, you smell body odor, you might be the one who needs a shower. How To Fix Mistake #3: Study the most popular users of each service. Watch their behavior and interaction. Read a guide on the networks you want to be part of. You can find definitive guides and up-to-the-minute tips at Social Media Examiner for free. One powerful and important insight: spend most of your time on Social Networks being social. Interact. Respond. And don't make the mistake of being self-promotional all the time. My rule of thumb is to try to be 90% sharing and helpful, and to use only 10% of my Social Media activity to directly promote. Now go out on the playground… and play nice! Social Media Marketing Mistake #4 Failure to have a presence on the most important Social Media sites. Many marketers sign up for ever Social Media network, don't dig deep into any of them, and so have a lackluster presence everywhere. Yuck. Don't do this. It just makes you appear to be one of the mediocre masses. You shouldn't – and can't – have a presence on all Social Media networks. How To Fix Mistake #4: I know I will get arguments on this, but in my opinion, here are the networks you should focus on, in the order of priority, from most important to least (but I think they are all important). Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Instagram Pinterest Google+ As I said, I know some will want to argue with be about this list, but I think it's right on target. Feel free to differ with me in the comments… or on Social Media! Social Media Marketing Mistake #5 Failure to use strong visual content in your Social Media Marketing. Most Social Media Marketers are focused on words. As a copywriter, I understand. But copywriting and writing in general isn't really about the medium – it's about the message. If you're focused only on the text, you're missing out on huge momentum and potential profit. More and more, people are consuming visual content. How To Fix Mistake #5: Get visual – especially video-visual! One of the hottest trends, according to the data from the Social Media Marketing Industry Report (and Mike Stelzner's keynote), is video. In particular, native video. Meaning video that is posted and hosted on the network distributing it. The networks seem to be giving preference to video that is uploaded via their own network interface. So use Facebook to upload your video to Facebook, instead of uploading it to YouTube and linking to it on Facebook. The same is true of other networks as well. And for goodness sakes, don't forget pictures and those “quote memes” that seem so popular. You can make your own using Canva or Wordswag. And finally, there are infographics. If you want to capture complex ideas in a simple way people love, use infographics. There are a lot of great tools to make them yourself, among them Canva, PikToChart, and Visual.ly.
