[CLICK 4-WAY ARROW AT BOTTOM RIGHT OF VIDEO FOR FULL-SCREEN VIEWING] I've just completed rebuilding my personal CV (academic resume, or Curriculum Vitae). Curriculum Vitae (CV) is a Latin phrase meaning "Course of Life." It refers to the document people in certain professions create to demonstrate their career-long growth in expertise, experience, and education. CVs are unlike resumes. The word "resume" is a 19th century French word meaning "to sum up," meaning that a resume is only supposed to 'summarize' one's life work in the most abbreviated fashion possible, typically a page or two. In the case of higher education and some other fields, CVs are expected to be substantial and detailed. They are supposed to document claims to expertise, experience, and education, providing the reader with proof of each. For this reason, CV's/Expanded Resumes are substantial and usually quite long documents. Here you will find my current CV, one that I built and published personally. It represents an entirely new approach of building such a resource based on the description above. There are many images and live links in the document that provide additional content. I hope you enjoy it. Additional resources are available at www.freddycardoza.com. Contact me if you have any questions or would like to learn more.

Manhood is about standing firm.  On one hand, there are men with bad behavior that is truly 'toxic.'  On the other hand, some of what is promoted as toxic masculinity is nothing more than masculinity itself-- including some examples of biblical manhood.   We live in a time when men must stand up and be counted, rather than shrink into absence and irrelevance.  This includes those times when we face opposition that seeks to impose its will on us in order to marginalize us.  In a day when men are dissed and dismissed, committed Christian men must see through the smoke screen and recognize that society, families, and churches need them to step up.  In this special episode, men learn more from scripture about how to live a convictional life, followed by a stirring call to seek the power of God and the secret of how that happens.  Don't miss this important episode, especially its final charge to be filled with God's divine power.

What is required to be a good citizen?  What does it mean to be an American citizen? Meant for people of all our 25+ nations who currently listen to Podcast Seminary, this is a message targeted to Americans-- but a discussion that all citizen Christians should ask. Specifically, I think Americans need to ask themselves "Is there any legitimate expectation of citizenship that we should give and receive from our fellow countrymen?" There was a time not long ago that it was an expectation for all American citizens to support the military that protects them; to full-throatedly say they love this Country; to support the Constitution and Bill of Rights; to heartily say the Pledge of Allegiance; to sing America the Beautiful, and to proudly stand and sing the National Anthem. Are those too much to ask as a starting place of American unity? If so, then what should be expected? That’s what we will discuss in this podcast, related to the reasonable and scriptural expectations of being a good citizen.     Source: Dave Anderson, Jan 26 2016-https://www.listland.com/top-10-reasons-immigrants-should-be-required-to-learn-english/

My Story Feature: How Podcast Seminary Helps People Grow in Their Faith and Relationship with God Ron’s Salvation Story I was born in San Diego, and grew up as an only child in a Christian home. I attended private Christian school. My family attended a Baptist church. At 13 years of age, I prayed the ‘sinner’s prayer’ one day in church, but I did not tell anyone. I guess that I wasn’t ready yet to make him the Lord of my life, and I was fearful of what the neighborhood kids would say about me. Maybe they would laugh at me, make fun of me, or call me a Jesus freak After all, the idea that Jesus died and came back to life seemed very unlikely to me. How could I possibly defend this crazy sounding story? If it was true, I wanted to believe, but I just didn’t know how, and I was too afraid to ask. For 27 years, I walked through life believing that there might be a God, but was unsure. I believed that I was a pretty good person and deserved to go to heaven if there was one. However, my belief had no basis other than I had heard this for a number of other people and it seemed logical to me. Also, I was told by a close friend in college that there are a lot of religions, as well as, ways to heaven. And, in addition, religions just try to explain what we do not know. At nearly 40 years old, I was in the best physical shape of my life, and everything seemed great. However, starting with my 40th birthday, I began to experience pain in a number of areas of my life. First, I became very aware that my marriage relationship was not in a good place. Soon to follow, my athletic triathlete body started to hurt from age and injury. I surrendered. I let go. No longer did I believe that I was in control. I began to work on myself. I began searching for answers. Thankfully, God had put many people in my path that would help me find a life of significance and purpose. During that same year, a friend put his hand on my shoulder in the parking lot of a hospital, and prayed for God to make himself known to me in a way that I could understand. Eleven days later, the prayer was answered when God revealed himself in a powerful way to me. It was on that day of September 15, 2011, that God became real to me. Ron’s Thrills and Trials as a Disciple of Jesus I have been a believer now for almost 6 years, and it is time for me to work at going deeper. I want to be able to grow my faith and take it to a greater depth. More specifically, I need discipleship help in the area of leadership. I am a father to three children and I desperately want them to know God. And, I want to be a better father to them. Also, there is a new believer at church that is asking me to meet with him weekly. I want to know how to disciple him in his new found faith. Ron and Podcast Seminary I have lead a couple of small groups, and both times they have dissolved after two or three years. If I was better at discipleship, I believe that those small groups might have remained intact and still be thriving to this day. It is my hope that Podcast Seminary can help me to meet my spiritual growth needs, and as a result, I can become a more effective discipler and follower of Christ.

Why You Still Feel Guilty (E015)

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 22, 2017 34:06

One of the saddest realities of human existence is the fact that so many people carry around the unbearable weight of guilt from past mistakes.  The existence of guilt is one of the primary reasons psychologists, counselors, therapists, physicians, pharmacists, and florists stay perpetually busy.  People all around the world seek to assuage their guilt through so many things and yet, for the most part, people remain locked in the grip of either 'guilt' itself... or the toxins and captors that promised freedom from guilt. I doubt if this is overstated.  People truly are riddled with guilt from past mistakes and besetting sins from which they just can't get free. It's really, really, really time for that to end.  But it isn't automatic.  Freedom from the pain of guilt is available to all, but receiving such freedom (emancipation, really) comes on God's terms, not ours.  For a person, any person, who wants to truly be free...  freedom awaits.  But the process of being forgiven cannot be short-circuited, otherwise we remain in its suffocating grip.  In this important podcast episode, we will explore what I believe are the six scriptural principles of freedom from guilt.  And failure to comply with these six principles is "Why You Still Feel Guilty."  Let's explore them together.  You can also find a video version of this discussion, given in a Facebook LIVE event in July 2017 (possibly available for a limited time) at www.podcastseminary.online or www.facebook.com/podcastseminary. My prayer is that you are ready to surrender to these divine truths from the pages of scripture, and finally be free.  Come experience freedom from guilt through confession, and by acknowledging truth, all of which will help your conscience and heart come to terms with the past.

What to Expect From God When All Hope is Gone Sometimes life hits us hard.  When that continues without letting up, people begin to lose perspective. They have doubt, fear, insecurity, hopelessness, and even depression.  It's happened to all of us.  Every Christian seeking greater discipleship and spiritual maturity know the feeling. But when the bottom falls out, what can we expect from God? What can we expect when "hope" itself is gone?  Struggling in our faith isn't uncommon.  Sometimes people even sort of 'lose' their faith. But the Bible says that faith is from God, first to last.  In other words, it's not the power of our faith that sustains us, but our faith in God-- and His strength, not the strength of our faith, is what sustains us.  When All Hope Is Gone, we learn several key things from Psalm 32.  Yes, that Psalm-- the utterly tormented Psalm of David where he finally cries out in repentance.  Following that, David discusses what happens when we see floodwaters rise.  We learn in this important Psalm 32:6 and following several essential truths about what God does when life falls apart and we get realigned with Him.  In this important podcast episode, Dr. Freddy Cardoza tells a true but unlikely story for the first time about how God shared this truth with him.   Listen and be encouraged.  You'll learn, among other things, that: 1. God Will Speak To You 2. God Will Show You the Way 3. God Will Give You Counsel These and other insights will help you in the dark days of your Christian life.

We all want God’s best for our lives.  We want to grow spiritually.  We want to become all God has made us to be.  We really want that! But we often don’t know how.  Because of the importance of spiritual maturity, Christians have always, since the days Jesus walked with His disciples, sought to understand what spirituality is and how to get it. Spiritual maturity is the goal-- and spiritual formation is the means to that goal. Depending on the time in history, Christians have historically looked at spiritual formation through different approaches.  This has led to what may be identified as five historical movements in Christian Spirituality. Each of these continue to have influence today, though some are very old. No such history is perfect, but these markers at least provide a context to thinking about spirituality and how it is viewed. Five Major Movements in Christian Spirituality Learn about these five major approaches to Christian spirituality in this episode of Podcast Seminary. 1. The Desert Fathers (Monastic, with Orthodox and Roman Catholic Spirituality) 2. The Protestant Reformation (Reformation Spirituality) 3. Evangelical Movement (Modern Evangelical Spirituality) 4. Charismatic Movement (Charismatic Spirituality) 5. Spiritual Formation Movement (Christian Formation and Renovare' Movement)

Today's question is, "What do Mature Christians do in order to become "Mature Christians?"  Most of those we know who have made great progress in the Christian life have done so in the secret place of the heart.  Spiritual Giants aren't made on stage or under the spotlights; they are hewn from the Rock of Ages in secret. For this reason, the secretive and private process of spiritual growth and personal metamorphosis, Christian maturity is sometimes misunderstood and remains a mystery. In this episode of Podcast Seminary, we'll learn that, to be transformed, we must be intentional and deliberate.  Transformation is not accidental.  It isn't happenstance. It is the result of a process of working with God in His effort to shape you and form you.   When we cooperate with God, our growth comes easier and more quickly.  When we resist and resent God's work in our lives, our spiritual growth is sluggish, uneven, and frustrating.  In Episode 004 of Podcast Seminary, our Dean, Dr. Freddy Cardoza unpacks Five Keys to Christian Maturity, which are: Acquire Assess Acknowledge Apply Advance During this discussion, we'll explore some of the wisdom of Solomon, the great king of the Nation of Israel, among other people and passages in scripture. Sometimes we make the process of knowing God more mysterious than it should be.  No doubt, God is the Great Mystery, but that doesn't mean everything about the life of faith is (or should be) a mystery. Indeed, God has self-revealed and in this "revelation," God has made Himself known.  And the very fact that God is knowable is "because" God wants to be known. Our resources are created to inspire, inform, and instruct people to get informed and be transformed by the power of truth. Our content is being arranged into 9 essential categories of truth that every believer should understand in order to build a Christian worldview and to be a fully-informed disciple.  Our 9 Essential Categories Foundations Formation Ministry Apologetics Bible Theology Leadership Life Specialized   The Whole Counsel of God These categories are essentially what the Apostle Paul meant in Acts 20:27 when he said that he did not hesitate to proclaim the "whole counsel of God."  In other words, truth should be provided to people in systematic, comprehensive, practical, and biblical ways.  Most Christians do not receive this type of discipleship experience, and that leads to personal confusion, biblical illiteracy, and a lack of spiritual power.  Though resources in these areas, we will help people fill the gaps in their biblical and discipleship knowledge, then be equipped to live with integrity and power.  Resources are being created for both spiritual seekers and devoted believers.  To request resources you need, simply email the Dean of Podcast Seminary, Dr. Freddy Cardoza, with your ideas at dean@podcastseminary.com or through our general communication loop, feedback@podcastseminary.com.
