On this episode, we dive deep into the power of our use of words and the courage behind an action, such as the difference between a kind action and a kind person. You’ll learn some of her “Meaghanisms” a term that her students fondly coined to describe the intentionality of the words Meaghan uses. My favorite; human. Meaghan is intentional about making sure to use the word human in describing everyone she encounters because it addresses and connects ALL people. She believes the use of the word human is the most powerful way to bring the mission of inclusion to life and has helped her become a better person. Meaghan shares how she uses her superpowers and walks the walk of a brave life. She gives concrete steps on how she established her organization, BRAVE Girls Leadership as a 501c3 (nonprofit) and why and how she transformed it into the Limited Liability Company, The BRAVE Institute. We discuss how she navigates through her challenge of feeling a false sense of urgency. Meaghan is learning to be intentional about “not mistaking uncertainty for an absence of clarity.” She is making the choice to live a BRAVE life. On episode 5, I chat with Dr. Michael Mozia, a Director of a Rehabilitation Center and Doctor of Physical Therapy. He lives by the biblical verse Mathew 6:26 and the quote “you are going to die one day” – the notion of the two mantras coupled with his experiences thus far have taught him the importance of learning to not let fear and the opinions of others limit him. We discuss how he supported me through changing my major in college, how he balanced various student leadership roles while excelling in an intense “3+4” accelerated doctoral program, what motivated him to lose 40 pounds, and his notion of letting life be his mentor. We also chat about his supervision style specifically as a young director managing staff who are older and younger than he is. We wrap up by answering a listener’s question about navigating her romantic relationship and Dr. Mozia shares how he knew his wife was “the one.” Another episode you do not want to miss. It’s mental health awareness month and I wanted to share a lesson I learned that changed my outlook and helped me have a really awesome week. This is a gentle reminder to be kind to yourself and patient with new transitions, give yourself time! Take pride in the work that you do but remember that your job is not your life. On this episode, I mention a gem I heard on the Rants and Randomness podcast, "your title is borrowed but your character is owned." That, my friends, is what really matters - your character. I challenge you to find things that you love to do outside of work that lift your spirit. Try your best to not focus and harbor on the negative. I’ve been challenging myself to live each day with a grateful heart as I think of at least five things that I am thankful for. Gratitude goes a long way. I appreciate you all for continuing to listen to Still Becoming and following me on Facebook and Instagram @WeAreStillBecoming. Please rate, like, subscribe, and write a review.
