In the second episode of the series on Grandmotherness, Julia speaks with Laila about how this stage of life reshapes the way we understand fairness, curiosity, and difference while leading.Laila begins with the role of stories — how storytelling helps children make sense of the world, and how the questions they ask in return often challenge long-held assumptions. Through these interactions, she reflects on how being questioned has made her more thoughtful, more curious, and more open to rethinking what she thought she knew. The conversation moves to the importance of recognising that not everyone is the same. Whether it is grandchildren of different ages or people within a team, treating everyone identically can become a weakness. Instead, leading requires noticing differences — in needs, capabilities, and perspectives — and responding accordingly.A powerful shift comes through Laila's experience with her twin grandsons. She describes how fairness becomes visible in every small interaction — in attention, tone, time, and response. What feels balanced to one may feel unequal to another. This constant comparison forces a deeper awareness of how fairness is perceived, not just intended.Together, they reflect on how easy it is to prioritise efficiency over fairness, especially in fast-moving environments. But grandmotherness, Laila explains, slows this down — making space to listen, to notice, and to engage more thoughtfully with each individual. This episode is a reminder that fairness is not a fixed rule. It is something we must continuously observe, question, and practise — in the smallest moments of how we show up with others.About the GuestDr. Laila Iskandar is an Egyptian social impact leader, policy-maker, and educator with over 30 years of experience working at the intersection of government, communities, and sustainable development. She is the founding partner of CID Consulting and has served as Egypt's Minister of State for Urban Renewal and Informal Settlements, as well as Minister of State for Environmental Affairs. In a time when election integrity has become one of the most heated debates in America, CURE America with Donald T. Eason delivers bold, straightforward conversations that cut through the noise. Hosted by Donald T. Eason, President of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE), this compelling weekly series tackles the tough issues facing our nation — with a special focus on protecting the integrity of our elections, strengthening our democracy, and renewing urban communities from the ground up. In the powerful premiere episode, Eason takes on the controversial Save America Act head-on. He systematically dismantles the most common myths surrounding the bill: from claims of "voter suppression" and disenfranchising women, to accusations of a federal takeover of elections. With clear facts, real-world examples, and a passionate defense of common-sense reforms, Eason shows how the Save America Act simply ensures that only American citizens can register and vote — while preserving mail-in registration, accepting multiple forms of ID, and leaving states in control of their own elections. Viewers will hear why 83% of Americans support the bill, how everyday citizens (including married women) already have easy paths to vote, and why acting now is not reckless — it's responsible. Blending policy breakdowns, myth-busting segments, and inspiring calls to action, CURE America doesn't shy away from controversy. Each episode brings clarity to complex issues, rooted in the belief that secure elections, strong communities, and Judeo-Christian principles are essential to saving America.

In this powerful opening episode, Pastor Donald T. Eason, president of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE), introduces viewers to the mission of CURE and delivers a straight-from-the-heart message about the true path to healing America's urban communities.  Drawing from his own upbringing in Detroit—once the richest city in the world, now a shadow of its former self with a drastically reduced population—Pastor Eason shares personal stories of single-parent struggles, temporary government assistance, and the dignity that comes from work and self-reliance. He explains how decades of massive federal spending have failed urban America, pointing to sobering statistics: doubled single-parent households since 1970, 50% of Black children in fatherless homes, Black women accounting for 40% of abortions, high Black teen unemployment, and a persistent 18.4% Black poverty rate in 2024. Pastor Eason contrasts CURE's approach—rooted in faith, family, freedom, personal responsibility, and opportunity—with the results of big-government programs and larger organizations that, he argues, have perpetuated dependency rather than solved it. He highlights CURE as the only Washington, D.C. think tank focused on urban issues from a Judeo-Christian perspective, spotlighting key publications like the report on education choice as a moral imperative for parents, the impact of abortion on the Black community, and the Cato Institute–praised book The State of Black Progress. He promotes the "success sequence" (education → job → marriage → children), calls for reviving trades and manufacturing jobs, and urges viewers to support solutions that restore dignity instead of relying on prolonged government aid. With direct biblical references, a no-compromise stance on faith and values, and a challenge to judge organizations by real results, this episode lays out a clear vision: the real cure for urban America isn't more government—it's faith, hard work, family, and personal responsibility. A compelling, truth-telling start to the series that calls viewers to action and hope.

Bongani Bingwa speaks to Dr Nasiphi Moyo, Mayor of Tshwane, about the sweeping clean-up operation currently underway in Pretoria’s inner city. Over the past week, several buildings posing as bars, clubs, and “gentlemen’s spots” have been shut down after authorities uncovered that they were operating as fronts for brothels, human trafficking networks, and a range of illicit activities. City enforcement teams have been combing through the CBD, closing unsafe establishments, arresting suspects, and enforcing by-laws that have long gone ignored. The raids have also revealed undocumented workers, drug dens, and troubling signs of collusion between certain city officials and criminal operators. As frustration grows among residents demanding safer streets and a revitalised capital, Mayor Moyo says this is only the first phase of a broader effort to reclaim the city. This conversation was recorded live at the 2025 CURE Clergy Policy Summit, held in Washington, DC at the iconic Willard Hotel. Star, who has authored four books drawing from her own journey out of welfare, shares insights from her 30 years building an organization dedicated to helping others achieve independence and dignity. This episode offers a unique look at the transition of leadership at CURE, captured amid a gathering of over 400 pastors focused on faith-driven solutions for urban communities. The discussion begins with the hand-off, as Star explains to Donald that after three decades of leading, it's time for a new chapter—one she believes requires strong pastoral guidance from men in the community. She emphasizes why the next steps in addressing inner-city challenges must come from pastors rather than politicians, and why she chose this moment to step aside while remaining involved. From there, Star addresses why she views Social Security as a modern-day barrier to wealth-building, particularly for black families. She argues that allowing individuals to invest the 12.4% deducted from their paychecks could close the wealth gap in a single generation, highlighting how the current system prevents families from passing on inheritances. The pair also explores the drawbacks of minimum-wage laws through a biblical lens, noting with a mix of humor and seriousness how such policies might have disrupted the story of Ruth and Boaz—potentially altering the lineage leading to King David and Jesus. They tie this to broader lessons from Scripture about opportunity and hard work. Star shares a recurring prophecy she's heard from several sources: that the next Great Awakening in America will emerge through the Black church. She sees the summit itself as evidence that this moment is unfolding now, urging collaboration between churches to drive real change. In the closing moments, Star delivers a direct call to action, stating that every church should function as a school and every pastor as a policy influencer. Without this engagement, she warns, government efforts will continue to fall short in fixing community issues. Overall, this episode focuses on the evolution of a longstanding movement, offering practical wisdom and inspiration for viewers committed to faith-driven solutions.

Buckle up for an explosive episode of CURE America that will ignite your passion for change! Host Donald T. Eason, president of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE), sits down with Chris Papst, a relentless investigative reporter from Baltimore and author of Failure Factory: How Baltimore City Public Schools Deprive Taxpayers and Students of a Future. Papps delivers a bombshell exposé on the dire state of Baltimore's public schools, where a jaw-dropping $1.7 billion annual budget fails to educate kids—only 10% of students are proficient in math, and key metrics like attendance and SAT scores are plummeting.   Prepare to be shocked as Papst reveals a system that prioritizes funding and administrative jobs over student success. Policies like the “50% rule” hand out passing grades for little to no effort, while social promotion pushes kids through grades without mastering the basics. With enrollment dropping by 6,500 students and 1,200 more adults hired, the system's focus is clear: money over kids. Powerful teachers' unions in Maryland block reforms like charter schools, leaving parents—many trapped in poverty or undereducated by the same system—powerless to fight back.   This isn't just Baltimore's problem—it's a national crisis threatening our society's future! Papst's eight-year investigation, detailed in Failure Factory, is a wake-up call to demand accountability. Discover stories of parents fighting against the odds and learn how some schools succeed despite the same challenges. Welcome to Cure America! Donald T. Eason has an engaging conversation with Pastor Lorenzo Sewell of 180 Church in Detroit, tackling the pressing educational crisis in urban America. Pastor Sewell, a dedicated advocate for school choice, exposes the failures of Detroit's public schools—where 80% of students struggle to read at grade level—and calls for empowering parents to choose better schools for their children. Grounded in faith, his perspective ties biblical principles to policy reforms, aligning with President Trump's vision to uplift struggling communities. The show then transitions to a compelling panel discussion with policy experts Jonathan Alexandre Senior Counsel, Liberty Counsel Action and Marty Dannenfelser Vice President for Government Relations, Center for Urban Renewal and Education. They analyze the “one big, beautiful bill,” signed by President Trump on July 4, 2025, a landmark achievement of the “America First” agenda. The panel highlights its transformative provisions: permanent tax cuts saving families an average of $10,000, including exemptions for tips and overtime; Medicaid reforms prioritizing vulnerable groups with work requirements; a one-year defunding of Planned Parenthood to curb abortion funding; a $1,700 tax credit for school choice scholarships, despite blue-state resistance; and robust border security funding ($46 billion for the border wall, $70 billion for ICE) to protect communities. Celebrating the Republican Party's 2024 election landslide and rejecting progressive policies, the panel emphasizes faith, personal responsibility, and American exceptionalism.

Welcome to CURE America, hosted by Donald T. Eason, President of CURE—the Center for Urban Renewal and Education. Joining the discussion are Marty Dannenfelser, Vice President for Government Relations at CURE; Kris A. Ullman, President of Eagle Forum; and Jonathan Alexandre, Senior Counsel at Liberty Counsel Action. The panel unpacks the “One Big Beautiful Bill” signed by President Trump on July 4, 2025, analyzing its content and implications. The episode includes a speech by Mike Johnson, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, a Louisiana Republican known for advocating conservative policies, faith, family, and American exceptionalism since 2023. The bill is presented as a landmark of the America First agenda and fulfillment of 2024 election promises by voters who rejected open borders, inflationary spending, and political division. Johnson highlights the bill's unifying effects across Black, Hispanic, Jewish, union, and suburban communities by promoting common-sense reforms. It permanently extends the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, averting 2026 tax hikes and offering families an average annual savings of $10,000. Major components include raising the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 (indexed to inflation), increasing the adoption credit to $5,000, exempting tips and overtime from taxation, and raising the estate tax exemption to $15–30 million. The bill encourages investment through full expensing of equipment and research, targeting a 1.2% boost in GDP. Welfare reforms implement work requirements (20–80 hours per month) for able-bodied adults on Medicaid or SNAP, while focusing assistance on vulnerable populations, excluding illegal immigrants, and cutting $1.5 trillion in government waste. Planned Parenthood is defunded for one year, with resources redirected to community health centers. Education policy includes permanent Opportunity Zones and a $1,700 scholarship credit to help students leave failing public schools. Border security receives $170.7 billion in funding: $51.6 billion for completing the wall, 116,000 detention beds, 13,000 officers and agents, and reimbursements to Texas. The bill emphasizes law enforcement, reducing illegal crossings, and restoring American global leadership through increased NATO spending, ceasefire initiatives, and trade deals. Though adding $3 trillion to the national deficit in the short term, the bill is framed as an investment in national strength, economic stability, and opportunity. Built on principles of liberty and self-governance, the bill seeks to deliver measurable results.

There's an area southeast of Lake Merritt that's lined with abandoned buildings, boarded up storefronts, vacant lots, and decrepit warehouses. The neighborhoods here, Clinton and San Antonio, are some of Oakland's oldest. Although there are also beautiful Victorian houses, long-established churches, and several thriving immigrant communities, including a stretch of Vietnamese establishments known as Little Saigon, this area has suffered from disinvestment and high crime rates for decades – why? Answering that question requires a trip through more than a century of Oakland history – from the Gold Rush up through the Urban Renewal era and beyond. Exploring this story illuminates not only the problems of these neighborhoods, but helps explain the rise and fall of entire cities. “The leading edge of development follows the wealthiest residents,” according to Mitchell Schwarzer, the author of “Hella Town: Oakland's History of Development and Disruption.” In this episode, Schwarzer unpacks that diagnosis, and what it means for older neighborhoods left to crumble as investors chase new frontiers. This conversation was inspired by Schwarzer's work with the San Antonio Station Alliance, a campaign advocating for the construction of a BART station and transit village. Ullman, JD (President of Eagle Forum), Jonathan Alexandre (Vice President of Governmental Affairs, Liberty Counsel), and Marty Dannenfelser (Vice President of Government Relations and Coalitions, CURE)—explores President Trump's trade negotiations with over 70 countries, efforts to lower interest rates, and a 2025 budget resolution funding national security, border security, and tax cuts. Discussions cover misinformation surrounding federal spending cuts, the benefits of reduced illegal immigration, and block grants to states for fiscal control, clarifying that “cuts” mean slowing spending growth.   In a one-on-one interview, Dr. OJ Oleka, CEO of the State Financial Officers Foundation, shares his family's journey from Nigerian immigrants arriving in 1980 to achieving the American Dream through faith, education, and hard work. The conversation highlights financial literacy, school choice, and tithing as tools to combat poverty, with Oleka noting the biblical call in Malachi to “test” God through tithing for abundant blessings. He directs viewers to sfof.com for resources on state financial officers' literacy initiatives. The episode concludes with a panel discussion on a Supreme Court case challenging Maryland's LGBTQ curriculum for elementary students, which denies parental opt-outs. Topics include the ideological nature of materials like Pride Puppy, the elitist dismissal of parental authority, the curriculum's impact on young children, and the diverse plaintiffs (Christian, Muslim, Ethiopian Orthodox) opposing it. The panel advocates for school choice and parental opt-out rights, urging viewers to contact Congress in this faith-driven call to action.

A long-vacant block on North Russell Street and North Williams Avenue, which was once part of a thriving African American community in Portland, will finally house people once again. The site was razed in the 1970s as part of an urban renewal project to expand the hospital there. Tomorrow, construction will begin on an 85-unit apartment building, 20 single-family homes and office and retail space for Black-owned businesses. Bryson Davis, chair of the board of the nonprofit behind the project, Williams & Russell CDC, joins us, along with developer Anyeley Hallova, to talk about the project.

“When [social security] was first established, you had 40 workers for every retiree. Today, we have three workers for every retiree. You also have people living longer, and you have all people forced into this system that they don't own … and they can't transfer it to their heirs,” says Star Parker. She is the founder and president of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) and editor of the book “The State of Black Progress.”America's social security system is broken, Parker says. And it's not just social security. She argues that America's welfare and safety net programs are all built on a one-size-fits-all model that fails to actually help the poor. Instead, they entrench generational poverty in certain communities, she argues.Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

The Democrats are in a full-blown "freakout" over President Biden's constantly dismal polls. Even with President Trump stuck in a courthouse for weeks on end, President Biden still trails in all of the swing states. But the left has much more to fear than just low poll numbers. As Trump's rally in the Bronx proved last week, Americans of all races and ethnicities are disgusted with the Biden record. Even though many of them never voted for Trump before, they are now. Democrats are terrified and they should be.Today, Sara welcomes Star Parker, a syndicated columnist and the founder of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) to discuss what is changing in the minds of many minority voters, the campaign messaging that will work with them, and the rhetoric that could still drive them away from the Republicans. Many years ago, Parker believed all the lies about the left about feminism, sexual liberation, abortion, welfare and so much more. But after her powerful conversion to Christianity, she saw those lies for what they were and she has committed every day since then to warning others about the destruction peddled by the Democrats and championing the freedom, dignity, and success that traditional conservative values promote.Parker also shares some simple wisdom on what Republicans should and should not say to sway minority voters. She says pointing out their embrace of the failed policies of Democrats for many years is an especially bad idea. What will work? Finding out the one issue they each care about most and offering solid solutions from the border to the economy to education to crime or whatever that issue might be.It's a powerful, high-energy conversation about Americans busting out of their political stereotypes, rejecting the failed leadership of Joe Biden, and embracing ideas and candidates that understand them better than the Democrats. Please visit our great sponsors:Goldcohttp://saralikesgold.comGet your free gold kit today and learn how to get $10,000 in bonus silver. My Pillowhttps://mypillow.comUse code CARTER for $25 prices and free shipping on orders over $75.Time Stamps:00:00  Democrats have alienated Americans10:09 Star Parker joins the Sara Carter Show11:59 We are far from our founding vision14:43 Trump Rally in the Bronx20:29 Democrats love dead black babies22:45 School Choice Programs are winning25:55 Trump is telling the truth32:06 What Trump must do34:08 Mother's story 37:48 What is Democracy?39:58 What we can do
