It grew and it grew, till I couldn't get it through thedoor of the room. And then I went with the Fox and theCat to the Field of Wonders to bury the gold pieces. TheParrot laughed at me and, instead of two thousand goldpieces, I found none. When the Judge heard I had beenrobbed, he sent me to jail to make the thieves happy; andwhen I came away I saw a fine bunch of grapes hanging ona vine. The trap caught me and the Farmer put a collar onme and made me a watchdog. He found out I was innocentwhen I caught the Weasels and he let me go. The Serpentwith the tail that smoked started to laugh and a vein6 in hischest broke and so I went back to the Fairy's house. Shewas dead, and the Pigeon, seeing me crying, said to me, `Ihave seen your father building a boat to look for you inAmerica,' and I said to him, `Oh, if I only had wings!' andhe said to me, `Do you want to go to your father?' and Isaid, `Perhaps, but how?' and he said, `Get on my back. I'lltake you there.' We flew all night long, and next morningthe fishermen were looking toward the sea, crying, `Thereis a poor little man drowning,' and I knew it was you, because my heart told me so and I waved to you from the shore--""I knew you also," put in Geppetto, "and I wanted togo to you; but how could I? The sea was rough and thewhitecaps overturned the boat. Then a Terrible Sharkcame up out of the sea and, as soon as he saw me in thewater, swam quickly toward me, put out his tongue, andswallowed me as easily as if I had been a chocolatepeppermint7.""And how long have you been shut away in here?""From that day to this, two long weary years--twoyears, my Pinocchio, which have been like two centuries.""And how have you lived? Where did you find thecandle? And the matches with which to light it--wheredid you get them?""You must know that, in the storm which swamped myboat, a large ship also suffered the same fate. The sailorswere all saved, but the ship went right to the bottom ofthe sea, and the same Terrible Shark that swallowed me,swallowed most of it.""What! Swallowed a ship?" asked Pinocchio inastonishment8. 6 vein n. The girl is not in the vein for singing today. The doctor injects glucose into the patient's vein. 7 peppermint n. Peppermint oil is very good for regulating digestive disorders. He sat down, popped in a peppermint and promptly choked to death. 8 astonishment n. They heard him give a loud shout of astonishment. I was filled with astonishment at her strange action.

Joe Puerta was a co-founder of the band Ambrosia in 1970. As bassist and vocalist, Joe has also written many songs for the band, too. Starting out, the band's sound had more of a progressive rock feel, but transformed to an adult contemporary vibe landing 5 Top 40 hit singles. In 1984, Joe was tapped to be an original member of Bruce Hornsby's band- The Range. The band won a Grammy as "Best New Artist" in 1987. As the 1990's approached, Joe returned to Ambrosia and has been touring and recording with them since. Chapter 47 "Herecomes our dear Pinocchio!" cried the Fox,hugging and kissing him."How did you happen here?""How did you happen here?"repeated the Cat. "Itis a long story," said the Marionette. "Let me tellit to you. Theother night, when you left me alone at theInn, I met the Assassins on theroad--""The Assassins? Oh, my poor friend! And what did theywant?""They wanted my gold pieces.""Rascals!" said theFox. "Theworst sort of rascals!" added the Cat. "ButI began to run," continued the Marionette, "andthey after me, untilthey overtook me and hanged me tothe limb of that oak."Pinocchio pointedto the giant oak near by. "Couldanything be worse?" said the Fox. "Whatan awful world to live in! Where shall wefind a safe place for gentlemen likeourselves?"As the Fox talked thus, Pinocchio noticed that the Catcarriedhis right paw in a sling. "Whathappened to your paw?" he asked. TheCat tried to answer, but he became so terriblytwisted in his speech that theFox had to help him out. "Myfriend is too modest to answer. I'll answer forhim. About an hour ago, we metan old wolf on the road. Hewas half starved and begged for help. Having nothingto give him, what do youthink my friend did out of thekindness of his heart? With his teeth, he bit offthe pawof his front foot and threw it at that poor beast, so thathe might havesomething to eat."As he spoke, the Fox wiped off a tear.

The Inn of the Red LobsterCat and Fox and Marionette walked and walked andwalked. At last, toward evening, dead tired, they came to theInn of the RedLobster. "Let us stop here a while," said the Fox, "to eat abiteand rest for a few hours. At midnight we'll start out again, for at dawntomorrow we must be at the Field of Wonders."They went into the Inn andall three sat down at thesame table. However, not one of them was very hungry. The poor Cat felt very weak, and he was able toeat only thirty-fivemullets with tomato sauce and fourportions of tripe with cheese. Moreover, ashe was soin need of strength, he had to have four more helpings ofbutter andcheese. The Fox, after a great deal of coaxing, tried his bestto eat alittle. The doctor had put him on a diet, and hehad to be satisfied with asmall hare dressed with a dozenyoung and tender spring chickens. After thehare, heordered some partridges, a few pheasants, a couple ofrabbits, and adozen frogs and lizards. That was all. He felt ill, he said, and could not eat another bite. Pinocchio ate least of all. He asked for a bite of breadand a fewnuts and then hardly touched them. The poorfellow, with his mind on the Fieldof Wonders, wassuffering from a gold-piece indigestion. Supper over, the Fox said to the Innkeeper: "Give us two good rooms, one for Mr. Pinocchio andthe other forme and my friend. Before starting out,we'll take a little nap. Remember to callus at midnightsharp, for we must continue on our journey.""Yes,sir," answered the Innkeeper, winking in a knowing wayat the Fox and theCat, as if to say, "I understand."As soon as Pinocchio was in bed, hefell fast asleepand began to dream. He dreamed he was in the middleof a field. The field was full of vines heavy with grapes.
At the cheerful tinkle of the gold, the Fox unconsciouslyheld outhis paw that was supposed to be lame, and theCat opened wide his two eyes tillthey looked like livecoals, but he closed them again so quickly thatPinocchiodid not notice. "And may I ask," inquired the Fox, "what you aregoingto do with all that money?""First of all," answered theMarionette, "I want tobuy a fine new coat for my father, a coat of goldandsilver with diamond buttons; after that, I'll buy an A-B-C book formyself.""For yourself?""For myself. I want to go to schooland study hard.""Look at me," said the Fox. "For the sillyreason ofwanting to study, I have lost a paw.""Look at me," saidthe Cat. "For the same foolish reason,I have lost the sight of botheyes."At that moment, a Blackbird, perched on the fencealong the road, called out sharp and clear: "Pinocchio, do not listen to bad advice. If you do,you'll besorry!"Poor little Blackbird! If he had only kept his wordsto himself! Inthe twinkling of an eyelid, the Cat leapedon him, and ate him, feathers andall. After eating the bird, he cleaned his whiskers, closedhis eyes, andbecame blind once more. "Poor Blackbird!" said Pinocchio to the Cat. "Why did you kill him?""I killed him to teach him alesson. He talks too much. Next time he will keep his words to himself."By this time thethree companions had walked a longdistance. Suddenly, the Fox stopped in histracks and, turning to the Marionette, said to him: "Do you want to double your gold pieces?""What do youmean?""Do you want one hundred, a thousand, two thousandgold piecesfor your miserable five?""Yes, but how?""The way is veryeasy. Instead of returning home, come with us.""And where will youtake me?""To the City of Simple Simons."Pinocchio thought awhile and then said firmly: "No, I don't want to go. Home is near, and I'm goingwhereFather is waiting for me. How unhappy he mustbe that I have not yet returned! Ihave been a bad son,and the Talking Cricket was right when he said that a disobedientboy cannot be happy in this world. I havelearned this at my own expense. Evenlast night inthe theater, when Fire Eater. . . Brrrr!!!!! . . .
Our first of three stories from "English Fairytales" and "More English Fairytales" by Joseph Jacobs is 'The Cat and the Mouse' and it's one of my favorite kinds of tales, the progressive tale of a mouse on a quest. In this episode, Riyadh and Dan continue their pointless ramblings on films you probably don't like, don't care about or have never heard of. From '50 Shades', to 'The Cat in the Hat' and the absolute masterpiece 'The Room' by Tommy Wiseau. And once again, they put their creative brains to the test in the '5 Minute Movie Pitching...thing'. Domesticated cats are thought to have started living alongside humans more than 9000 years ago. Unlike dogs, it's believed cats domesticated themselves, entering the homes of early arable farmers in the Fertile Crescent to control the rodent population. Since then, they've been worshipped, vilified and revered by various societies around the world. Today, they are one of the world's most popular pets, living on every continent except Antarctica and a favourite on the internet, and yet, they will never have that image of loyalty that is associated with dogs. Rajan Datar welcomes three experts in science, culture and archaeology to discuss the history of the domesticated cat: Katharine Rogers - a Professor Emerita of English Literature from City University of New York and author of numerous books including 'Cat' and 'The Cat and the Human Imagination'; Eva-Maria Geigl - an Evolutionary geneticist at the French National Research Institute CNRS; and John Bradshaw - an anthrozoologist from Bristol University, UK, and author of the book 'Cat Sense'. The Dr Seuss books revolutionised the way American children learnt to read in the 1950s. Books like 'The Cat in the Hat' were designed to help young children enjoy reading simple words and sentences using rhymes, anarchic characters and lively illustrations. Claire Bowes spoke to Christopher Cerf who knew Theodor Geisel, the author of the books. Welcome to 'Identify Yourself'! The podcast in which we investigate what makes up our cultural identities in an increasingly diverse and connected society. In this episode I sat down with actors Siena Kelly, Esme Laudat and Melissa Lowe to talk about dual heritage. They shed light on the mixed race experience, being made to feel like the "other" and coming head on with microaggressions. Siena Kelly is an actor. Her recent credits include 'Describe The Night' at the Hampstead Theatre and 'A Christmas Carol' at The Old Vic. Esme Laudat is also an actor. She recently appeared in 'Bromance the musical' at The Other Palace. Her other credits include 'Spamilton' and 'Beautiful - the Carole King Musical'. Melissa Lowe is an actor currently appearing as Sally in the Leicester Curve production of 'The Cat in the Hat'. Other credits include 'Me and My Girl' at Chichester Festival Theatre.
Nuestros invitados: Lonnie Smith, 'Dancin' In An Easy Groove'; Booker T. Jones & The MG's, 'Time is Tight', 'Green Onions'; Jack McDuff, 'Hot Barbeque', 'Screaming'; Reuben Wilson, 'Sugar', 'The Okie Dokie'; Jimmy McGriff, 'Black Pearl'; Shirley Scott, 'Remember'; Jimmy Smith, 'The Cat', 'Organ Grinder's Swing', 'O.G.D. (aka Road Song)'; Ximo Tebar, Joey DeFrancesco & Idris Muhammad, 'St. Thomas'; Los Granadians del Espacio Exterior, 'New York City'.

This is episode número tres of 'Art Cinema, Fart Cinema' - a terrible podcast about terribly considered movies. This one is especially terrible. 'Seuss Abuse' sees Nadeem and Simon covering 'The Cat in the Hat' and 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas', the two controversial live-action film adaptations of the works of wacky, nutty, suspect children's author Dr Seuss. It's a leaner, meaner episode. Magical and full of wonder. A throwback to a simpler time. An hour and fifteen minutes of unadulterated podcasting bliss. Come near, over here, and hear with your ears!

This hour some of our favorite childhood icons: from the man who gave us Thing One & Thing Two... to Dorothy, the Tin Man and Toto too. Dr Seuss and the Butter Battles by Eleanor McDowall (Falling Tree Productions for BBC Radio 4, 2011) Theodor 'Dr Seuss' Geisel remains one of the best-loved children's authors in America. Famed for his witty and often subversive stories such as, 'The Cat in the Hat' and 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas!' his whimsical characters and playful rhymes are deeply embedded in American childhoods and those of children around the world. However, few readers are aware of the surprising political subtext to many of his tales. American Icons: The Wizard of Oz [Excerpt] by Ave Carrillo, Jonathan Mitchell and Eric Molinsky with host Kurt Andersen (Studio360, 2005) It's been more than seventy years since movie audiences first watched The Wizard of Oz. Meet the original man behind the curtain, L. Frank Baum, who had all the vision of Walt Disney, but none of the business sense.... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
For a video game designed within a game genre known for its often less spectacle-driven storytelling, The Cat Lady is surprisingly brutal, violent, and often appalling. That being said, it is also a horror game that is more interested in the horrors of real life, depression and anxiety, than it is in its gorier and terrifying backdrop. This week we discuss the 2012 indie game and what it might have to say about the kind of horrors that real people grapple with everyday.

Almost after 2 months without doing a podcast we sit down and watch Walt Disney's 1978 sci fi comedy 'The Cat from Outer Space'.
