He was responsible for a reunion in 1994, which would later result in an official re-opening in 1997. Mark shares his story of the modern-day era of the Ace Cafe.Steve Parrish is an acclaimed motorcycle racer who shot to fame following his success on two wheels between 1976 and 1986. After retiring from motorcycle racing, Steve went on to compete in the sport as a team manager for Yamaha while also embarking on a new challenge - Truck Racing. The announcement last winter that the world's top restaurant, Noma, will close in 2024, has spawned dozens of think pieces asking whether this is the end of fine dining. So this weekend, we went to the FT's renowned food critic Tim Hayward to learn about the state of the industry. Running a restaurant has never been more expensive in cities such as New York and London. And now, in the middle of a cost of living crisis, Tim says a bloodbath is coming: in order to stay afloat restauranteurs must ditch a corporate business model and return to more nimble roots. Tim tells Lilah that the good news is that he's seeing it happen.--------------Want to say hi? We love hearing from you. Email us at ftweekendpodcast@ft.com. Ace Cafe, the home of motoring, birth of the Cafe Racer, the place where Mods, Rockers, The Who, streamline modern, and the new electric rebels of London all live and intersect. Speed is an addiction for Mark Wilsmore, the man who brought the Ace (back) to life. Per usual, we also talk about the edge: "the closer you get to death, the greater you value life." Have a look at all the places you can now find the Ace, from Kuala Lumpur to Orlando, but the real beating heart and history of motoring is just off London's North Circular Road.Have a look at some photos from the 2009 resurrection here on The Motorcyclist.Watch the full videos of the Ford car night at the Ace excerpted in our YouTube video.Watch "the best party in town" Ace bike night footage here. And here's a great piece to watch on the Mods & Rockers.Sign up here for our newsletter.Instagram, Twitter, Newsletter

Yakka, Gremlin & Pigpen discuss the historic British motorcycle manufacturer Vincent HRD. Dervish is with the Managing Director of Ace Cafe London, Mark Wilsmore. They talk in-depth about the history of Ace Cafe London, the flood in 1999, and how the lockdown is treating the business. They discuss biker code, Colin Chapman founder of Lotus Cars working at the Ace Cafe workshops along with Mark's views on Electric cars the British Racing Drivers Club and the Isle of Man TT. Mark also shares some of his extensive knowledge about the historical importance of Brooklands and historical racing. KEY TAKEAWAYS People come to the Ace Café to hang out and see what turns up. It's extraordinary the vehicles that come along. It's about striking up a conversation with the owner and finding out more. I love and enjoy things that have been built for a purpose. There are beautiful aesthetic pieces of machinery with a purpose Over years' things change and horses have been replaced by vehicles. Our use of vehicles may ultimately be something that becomes something that only the very wealthy can have. Brooklands was the first purpose-built racetrack and opened in 1909. Brooklands was built as a result of legislation banning car racing on public roads. This was when the British Racing Drivers Club, British Motorcycle Racing Club and the Brooklands Aeroclub were established. Daytona in the USA is an exact copy of the Brooklands track. BEST MOMENTS ‘I like taking stuff apart and I like putting it back together but I don't like the bit in-between' ‘My first exciting memory of a car was being in a Ford Pop as a child on a farm' ‘The little modern lotus car screams fun' ABOUT THE HOST Dervish is a Spacecraft Designer and a Mechanical Engineer by day and podcaster by night. As a Spacecraft Designer he has worked on some of the biggest space projects and is a creative engineering force always interested in projects that involve solving global challenges. As a podcaster he brings together fascinating stories and content from those who are at the heart of the classic and super car worlds with a hint of design and engineering woven into the mix. Established in 1938,the international courtyard of motorcycling idling on the edge of London town on the A 406 Northern Circular Road, The Ace Cafe has stood witness to history, infamy, war and glory, growing up with Britain as it raced into the world of motorcycling and music, thru the hey days of the 50's and 60's and beyond It is the cathedral of petrol heads where the parish congregate to discuss life around internal combustion engines 365 days a year. An absolute #MustDoinLondon Mark Wilsmore, MD and chief trouble shooter at the Ace made time for us over copious amounts of tea to share the history of the Ace Cafe London, our first brand icon.

For the folks that could not catch my set at The Gemini Party D-Xtreme Tribute @ Ace Cafe, here you go. Derek and I both loved the sounds of funk, I have always been drawn to the funk sounds incorporated into breaks and other dance music. You will often find these sounds within music I choose for my mixes. He always said not alot of DJs play that and supported my desire to be a little different and play what I feel. So please enjoy this short but sweet journey into some straight up funk delivering plenty of bass. If you were not able to attend this tribute event, it was absolutely phenomenal. The vibe was extraordinary and the production was top notch, I'm so blessed to have been an integral part of such an amazing event to celebrate the life of a dear friend and Legend in music. I certainly look forward to next year, and other events to come. Keep on the look out because they will be coming. I Bring You Art From the Heart, Inspiration and Imagination. I Am Efocus

Steph Jeavons left the Ace Cafe in London, UK in March 2014 on her Honda CRF 250L. And 4 years later, on a cold and snow-patched day in March 2018, she completed her trip when she arrived back at the Ace Cafe. When we last spoke to her, she expected to be on the road for another year, but what was supposed to be a three year journey ended up being four, as she dealt with health issues and more. Steph talks about what it’s like to travel on a small bike, and about how to deal with catching the travel bug. With an apprehensive start at the beginning of her adventure, she has come back an even more confident person, learning much about herself, people and travel along the way. Mark Wilsmore at the Ace Cafe in London The Ace Cafe in London, England has a history going back as far as 1938. Beginning as a roadside diner catering to hungry truckers, it evolved in to a popular motorcycle hang out. Setbacks led to the shut down of the iconic motorbike meeting place when it was bombed in the Second World War and again with the evolution of the Austin Mini. Although it had been resurrected a couple of times, the Ace Cafe didn’t realize it’s full potential until Mark Wilsmore’s plan and determination to reopen the it came in to fruition. From the Ace Cafe in London was born an international following which lead to the opening of Ace Cafes in other locations, including Beijing and the United States. Today, the Ace Cafe is a place for petrolheads, people who love the smell of gasoline and oil, motorbikes and cars. Somewhere to hang out and talk, to swap ideas, to show their vehicles, to enjoy themselves. To sit down, listen to music, have a meal and a cup of coffee with like minded people. Mark Wilsmore is the owner of the Ace Cafe. You can read more about the Ace Cafe and check for upcoming events at https://london.acecafe.com/. Sam Manicom | What’s it Like to be in the Ace Cafe London? Sam Manicom, motorcycle adventure travel author and presenter, and co-host on ARR RAW, shares his experiences of the Ace Cafe, what it’s like to go through the doors and experience this legendary petrolhead hang-out. www.sam-manicom.com Sponsors: This episode of Adventure Rider Radio is made possible by the following SHOW SPONSORS. Crash has more trials and tribulations with both the GS500 and the Bonneville while Steve attended the VIP opening event for the Ace Cafe in Orlando. Riding into History Ace Cafe The post Episode 108 – The Ace Cafe is OPEN! appeared first on Cafe Racer Adv Motorcycle Podcast.
We have a great episode for you guys and gals out there on the interwebs. Thanks for listening and as always we start every show talking about our rides. Kevin set out on a ride with the intent to ride new and awesome roads. Uncharacteristically he succeeded in this task and had a near full day of riding (minus time to check out a movie). Larry as always was able to get out for a ride on both his son’s Ducati and then on his beloved Switchback. Mail Call: Email from Darian Email from Dave News:Which motorcycle brand has the best dealer network when it comes to customer satisfaction? Ace Café is set to open in Orlando May 10th. Finally, somewhere to go in Orlando. BMW releases the 2018 R-NineT Urban GS. Jason Disalvo launches a riding school. HJC is making a Luke Skywalker X-Wing helmet. Royal Enfield has increased it’s dealer network to 50 dealers within a single year. 8 ways to spot motorcyclists. Topic:This a meaningless article, which nonetheless we have heard quoted elsewhere as evidence, among other things, that mandatory helmet laws are pointless since some of the states with the largest number of fatalities had mandatory helmet laws. We don’t think the reporter meant to be deceptive, but rather displayed an amazing inability to critically review the article and see that the numbers cited are meaningless, as the author himself admitted in the 1st paragraph Paddock:. So, last week Larry was going to give a pre-race report on the 4th event in the MotoGP, the Spanish GP at Jerez in which many of the riders were complaining about tires and traction. Well, the race is over now, and complaints about traction and tires are still prominent. Although, to be fair, your not hearing them so much from Pedrosa and Marquez, who lined up 1-2 at the start of the race and finished in the same order. Jorge Lorenzo got his first podium, finishing 3rd after starting in the 3rd row along with Rossi and Vinales. Didn’t get a good start, but ran a brilliant race, passing the Yamaha riders, as well as Zarco after a brilliant battle to finish 3rd. Speaking of brilliant, I told you to watch out for Zarco. He ran a torrid first 1/2 of the race, moving up to 3rd place and pushing Marquez until he had to fall off lest he burn his tires to cinders, but still finishing a remarkable 4th.
