Élan M. For this week's plant adventure on Herbal Radio, we sit down with the President of Native Botanical Inc., Edward Fletcher. We had the opportunity to learn about Ed's many intriguing life journeys that led him to his wide-spread successes throughout the herbal community today. We'll dive into Ed's upbringing, where his family founded the first nature preserve in North Carolina in the early 1900s, a memorable moment shared with his grandmother when he encountered his first taste of medicinal plant wisdom, and Ed's passion for ethical cultivation practices of the American ginseng plant.   On top of his work as the President and COO at Native Botanicals Inc., Ed has also been a proud presenter at the AHPA's Botanical Congress for just shy of 5 years. His expertise on proper cultivation and propagation practices was key to the creation of AHPA's Good Stewardship Brochures. AHPA, with a history dating back to its establishment in 1969, has been a cornerstone of the beekeeping community. Their mission has always revolved around advocating for beekeepers and the honey industry, and they've consistently upheld this commitment. The AHPA has played a pivotal role in advancing the beekeeping industry, with a primary focus on the needs and concerns of all beekeepers, from the hobbyist, to the commercial and sideline beekeeper. By Sean MoloughneyEditorIn this podcast I talked to Michael McGuffin, president of the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) about the Dietary Supplement Listing Act of 2022 and the regulation of dietary supplements more broadly. In April, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN) introduced Senate Bill 4090, which would require dietary supplement manufacturers to submit information about their products with the FDA prior to bringing new products to market. Mandatory product listing has been debated and discussed for years and there is disagreement on this approach within the industry. The adverse event reporting system for dietary supplements is an association system, not a cause and effect system, says trade group AHPA, stressing that high numbers of AERs linked to multivitamins does not mean the products are dangerous.
