Episode 835 - Jason Interviews Andrew Pepoy - Simone & Ajax: What's Black & White and Read All Over? https://www.pepoy.comSimone, a fun-loving, 20-something girl, and her best pal, Ajax, a small, green dinosaur, first appeared over 30 years ago and have since run rampant in many comics and been nominated for the Harvey Award for Special Award for Humor. They've been described by a reviewer as "...like the best issues of Cerebus, and a mood that harkens Bone," by a reader as "...the look of an Archie comic but the sensibilities of a Marx Brothers movie," and compared to Carl Barks' Uncle Scrooge comics that inspired Duck Tales. My true comics love is Simone & Ajax, and I previously Kickstarted The Adventures of Simone & Ajax: Lemmings and Tigers and Bears! Oh My!  And I'm back, working like mad to give you more fun Simone & Ajax comics.  Some of you noticed that the spine of that previous book of all-new comics had a 3 on it  and asked: What about books 1 and 2? Well, you can get Book One in my new campaign for The Adventures of Simone & Ajax: What's Black and White and Read All Over?Buy it: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pepoy/simone-and-ajax-whats-black-and-white-and-read-all-overPatreon https://www.patreon.com/comicsfunprofitOur Merch https://comicsfunprofit.threadless.comDonations Keep Our Show Going, Please Give https://bit.ly/36s7YeLThank you so much for listening and spreading the word about our little comic book podcast. Ororo & Callisto - enemies turned friends turned enemies turned companions. These two warriors rage against each other time and time again, and in doing so, they discover the ties that bind them. Or are those tentacles? X-Couple month continues as we look at these combatants as seen in the X-Treme X-Men storyline, "The Arena." To help us discuss their unique romance, we're using "The Normal Bar: Where Does Your Relationship Fall?" by Chrisanna Northrup, Pepper Schwartz, and James Witte. Does analyzing your relationship by comparing it to others work? Those looking to explore Ororo & Callisto's relationship further should read Sara Century's excellent piece, "Storm vs. Callisto, and the Uneasy Alliance of Heroes and Villains." Issues covered in this episode: "X-Treme X-Men" issues 36 - 39, written by Chris Claremont, penciled by Igor Kordey, and inked by Kordey, Scott Hanna, Sandy Florea, Mark McKenna, Andrew Pepoy, Norm Rapmund, and Josef Rubinstein. The colors are provided by Transparency Digital and the letters by VC’s Rus Wooten. Special shout-out to cover artist Salvador Larroca. Around Comics - The Comic Book Podcast

=On a week where not much came out in comic shops, the boys take a long and winding road of conversation into subjects including DC’s 1975 comics version of the Bible by Joe Kubert, R Crumb’s The Book of Genesis, and a little EC comics history. Comics have long seen the changing of bad guys into good guys, and this week we talk about some of our favorite and least favorite Bad gone Good characters including Wonder Man, Harley Quinn, Juggernaut, The Punisher, Quicksilver & the Scarlet Witch, The Vision and more. A preview of our discussion on Book of the Monthish Batman: White Night is followed by our disdain for Nextdoor and other online neighbor sites. Baseball, Rolling Stone top 500 albums, Sgt Peppers, The Beach Boys, Enola Holmes, iFanboy congrats, Andrew Pepoy, Black Adam, Stanley Kubrick & Cormac McCarthy. This episode has a little of everything.

In the past couple of years Archie Comics has taken a number of risks, none more daring than launching adult horror comic, "Afterlife with Archie". This zombie take on good ol' Riverdale has become a tremendous success and now spawned a spinoff comic, "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina", featuring the popular teen witch. Wendi talks to "Afterlife" variant cover artist, Andrew Pepoy, about his fun, pin up style approach to Betty and Veronica getting terrorized. He shares "breaking in to the business" stories and talks about his original characters, "Simone and Ajax". His work can also be seen as an upcoming variant to "Archie meets Predator" #4. Next Robert Hack comes by to discuss his unique, sepia tinged style on "Sabrina". He talks about his horror influences and how much he's allowed to get away with on an Archie book. Both titles take a lot of chances and feature unique creative styles unlike anything else on the comic rack.
