Tracy Eire grew up far to the north in a place called St John's, Newfoundland. She has spent most of her life with one foot in the real world and the other somewhere else—maybe on Mercury, maybe in the realm of myth, or ... somewhere near Hobbiton. It's a place where stories breathe, where the old gods whisper, and where women step out of the fog wearing their strength and brilliance plainly. That is the space her art comes from. An oil and charcoal artist with a deep love for narrative painting, Tracy focuses on portraits of women who feel ancient and modern all at once. These are figures who carry storms behind their eyes, but choose the light anyway. She often paints the things she sought—or witnessed—in her youth: courage, grace, grit, and the quiet power of women who refused to disappear, even when maligned. It's no wonder her harpies wear couture. Tracy honed her skills through the Milan Art Mastery Program, but she's been creating art even longer than she's been reading comic books and novels. She is also a longtime writer of NobleBright fantasy, science fiction, and paranormal tales, and those worlds bleed into her canvases in the form of ghost hunters, fairies, sirens, and banshees like you've never seen before. Every piece she makes becomes a conversation between the storyteller and the painter in her. Sometimes those two voices argue, but ... mostly they cooperate. In every part, she's busy becoming an accomplished storyteller. What Tracy wants when she paints (and hopes for when she writes) is that her work makes people feel something strong and true. Maybe it's a spark of recognition. Maybe it's the sudden sense that someone out there sees your resilience, your mythos, your story. Her work is tied to the belief that compassion is just as legitimate a curveball as cruelty, and that good can prevail over despair. Perhaps that's because her art is built on legends, imagination, and memory—on women who didn't give up, and the enduring truth that courage still matters. Whether you meet Tracy's work on paper, on canvas, or in a book, the promise inside it is the same: she will always try to make something that speaks to you, and something that lights your way onward. Dorothy de Kok skims author bios with mild suspicion—aware they matter, but quietly convinced they are proof that even the greatest writers have writer's block when they have to write about themselves … and here we are. Her own storytelling journey began at twelve, when she attempted her first novel: an earnest and spectacularly terrible fan fiction of Enid Blyton's Magic Faraway Tree series. She finished it, reread it proudly, then lost it, which is just as well, as it was a threat to great literature. Paranoid by the world and abandoned by those around her, she turned to art in her time of hiding. When she was scared, she wrote about it. When she cried, she drew comforting pictures. With the inability to pinpoint and process her own emotions, she used art and storytelling as her communication, turning her fear into something beautiful. Nowadays, she can finally leave her bedroom, but never without a sketchbook by her side. She attends the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in hopes of getting her BFA in Illustration. She spends her days doodling elves, bears, and silly little faeries and nights writing, planning, and…hopefully writing some more. Finally having an outlet to put all her obsessive, creative energy, she dreams of one day showing even the deepest crevices of her mind with her odd love stories and twisted mysteries. Roddy Taylor is a former high school science teacher, who decided to become a full-time artist and illustrator. He and his wife moved to Ellensburg six years ago after his son was born and fell in love with the place. Since deciding to go full-time with his art, he has developed his previous love for mythology, nature, and fantasy themes. What do typhoon evacuations, koala selfies, and second breakfast in Hobbiton have in common? They've all been part of Deacon Bob's adventurous month.  After a few weeks apart, Father Dave and Deacon Bob are back, swapping globe-trotting tales, ministry moments, and a surprisingly full slate of sports updates. Bob's recent trip took him from the typhoon-swept Philippines to Singapore, Perth, Sydney, and a bucket-list stop in New Zealand's Hobbiton (yes, complete with hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn, and second breakfast).  Along the way, he preached to 90 youth leaders just hours after a typhoon hit, met a koala, saw kangaroos, and even met a listener named Rain who drove five hours just to hear him speak. There were plenty of memorable meals, from perfect pancakes to less-than-crispy bacon.  Meanwhile, Father Dave stayed stateside, baptizing great-nieces (one walked to her own baptism), speaking at the Knights of Columbus Conference, and making a moving visit to the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine in Oklahoma City. He shares Rother's remarkable story—from failing Latin in seminary, to obeying his bishop's call to return to Guatemala, to his martyrdom in 1981—and the beauty of a shrine built right in the heart of the city it serves.  Sports fans get plenty too: the debut of MLB's first female umpire Jen Pawol (including her Hall of Fame–bound first pitch), Tom Brady's towering new statue, and even a trivia challenge about the University of Michigan making draft history.  Naturally, there are detours, including CGI vs. AI, bad sports statues, and ministry moments that transcended cultural boundaries. NEUSEELANDs Nordinsel — Glüh(cks)würmchen, Wildwasser und Sternenzauber Manchmal fühlt sich Reisen so episch und surreal an wie ein Traum. In Auckland gelandet, gings gleich rauf auf den Fernsehturm und auf einer (gerade erst entstandenen) Vulkaninsel runter in eine Höhle. Wir mussten durch einen Tunnel im Felsen, um den vielleicht schönsten Strand mit schwarzem, glitzernden Sand zu erreichen. Die Kulisse, die sich uns geboten hat, war mehr Film als Realität. Und für Filmkulissen ist Neuseeland ja ohnehin bekannt. Das haben wir dann auch gleich überprüft und uns in den Weta-Workshops mit den Bösewichtern aus Mittelerde angelegt und sind in Hobbiton auf Bilbos und Frodos Pfaden gewandelt. Und wir haben im grünen Drachen opulent geschmaust. In Waitomo gibt es Höhlen mit Glühwürmchen. Dort haben wir jedes Zeitgefühl verloren und sind überzeugt, die sollten eigentlich Glückswürmchen heißen. Neuseeland liegt auf dem pazifischen Feuerring und südlich vom Lake Taupo blubbert und zischt es aus dem Boden als würde ein alter Drache darunter den alten Jonny Cash Song „Ring of Fire“ vor sich hin murmeln. Doch dort gibt's nicht nur kochend heißes Wasser. Gerade mal 8 Grad kalt war das Wildwasser beim Rafting! Wir erzählen euch, warum kalt und wild so entspannend sein kann. Nachts dann der Blick nach oben: Das Weltall in voller Pracht, so klar und hell, dass wir immer noch staunen, wenn wir an diesen Moment denken. Wir freuen uns, wenn ihr wieder mit uns reist. Diesmal gibt's keine gefährlichen Tiere. Versprochen. Dafür eine "echte" Regenbogenbrücke und einen Gänsehaut-Haka am Schluß.

This week on Flightless Bird, David Farrier still finds himself stranded back in New Zealand, waiting for his new Visa to be issued so he can make more American Flightless Birds. Cut off from America, he decides to do one of the most touristy things he can imagine: he sets off for Matamata and the tiny sleepy village of Hobbiton. Left over from the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit, he goes to meet Hobbiton general manager Shayne Forrest, who takes Farrier around the most incredibly detailed living film set he's ever seen. Farrier discovers that Hobbiton has recently opened up a Hobbit house, so Farrier goes inside to experience it with an American man called Matt.
