This episode is a synthesis of ideas which presented themselves to me this past week. We explore the minds of academic and "geologian", Thomas Berry as well as botanist scholar turned psychonautic prophet, Terence Mckenna. Do you feel time speeding up?As the seasonal wheel churns us into the darkness of winter (and right on time for Diwali), the message rings out for us to tend to our inner fire, our inner light, which lovingly alludes to some grander journey deep within ourselves. What is peace truly? The Earth's creative forces are full of conflict, violence, and tensions - yet they ultimately create. Is it possible to transmute our human-grade destruction into the most beautiful creation on Earth? In this solo episode, I play with these ideas as well as the karmic debt of nation-states, the Dark Crystal, time travel, the Archaic Revival, bioregionality, and more. In this episode, I share an original essay titled, "Is Consciousness the Next Paradigm?". I believe we are on the brink of a paradigm shift in modern science. This shift will replace our current, broken ideas of mind-body duality and quantum mechanics with a paradigm based in consciousness. A physics that recognizes everything in our manifest existence, known as the “gross realm of the senses”, is connected through a subtler, abstract Unified Field of Consciousness that serves as the foundation for the entirety of the cosmos. This paradigm shift will be as important for our understanding of cosmology as was the shift from a geocentric to a heliocentric model during the Scientific Enlightenment. This paradigm shift will impact all fields of science – including psychology, medicine, and astronomy – and in turn, the advancements in these fields of study will significantly improve human development globally. In part one of this essay, I'll highlight two phenomenon which our current quantum mechanics paradigm cannot explain: Quantum Entanglement and a Theory of Everything capable of uniting gravity with the electromagnetic force. I'll then discuss two metaphysical concepts, the Holographic Universe and the Unified Field of Consciousness, and how these complementary ideas provide a stronger foundational view of physics than our current one. In part two, I'll provide historical context as to why the exploration of consciousness has been relegated to a “fringe” science, and its researchers frequently dismissed as pseudo-scientists. Specifically, I'll highlight the two power structures who've exerted the most control over the individual's exploration of conscious thought over the past two millennia, first the dogma of the Catholic Church and second the dogma of scientific materialism. In part three, I'll argue that society is currently in the midst of an “Archaic Revival” – where we return to the wisdom of the ancient, spiritual traditions and recognize that mind and matter are in fact one. I'll further argue that this revival is being driven both from the top down and from the bottom up. From the top down in that the body of scientific evidence in support of a consciousness-based paradigm is now so strong that conventional physicists will soon be forced to accept the validity of their models. From the bottom up because individuals across the world are waking up to their true Nature and to the importance of consciousness. To that end, I'll specifically highlight the resurgence in psychedelic therapies and the continued growth of the Transcendental Meditation movement as a simple, practical way for people to integrate higher planes of consciousness into their daily lives. Please enjoy! Music: Intro: Ben Fox - The Vibe; End Credits: Zac Nelson - Ascend. Welcome to another episode of Mythic Existence! On this episode, we discuss Terence McKenna and his concepts of the archaic revival and Gaian holism. Like McKenna, this episode will strive to be a sort of meme replicator to challenge us to re-evaluate our own assumptions of contemporary life and to imagine a more ideal future. Perhaps after you listen you might agree with McKenna’s premise that we need to reinvigorate our lives with the archaic values of cooperation, reverence for the goddess and nature, and freedom to explore oneself with our plant helpers. Of course, the main issue is that their legalization inherently threatens the dominator culture. If this episode could be a call to anything, it would be a call to question at every turn, on an individual level, the logic of our patriarchal, aggressive, ego driven culture.
Behold, the triumphant return of comedian and drug fueled psycho-pomp Joshua Forbes. He and Colorado Springs own Luke Stamm passed through the Chapel to cleanse the altar of comedy once again. Long dismissed as hallucinations, the beings that people see on DMT are attracting more and more scientific interest. This Archive Edition of Voices of Esalen features a talk by the inimitable Terence McKenna, delivered at Esalen in August 1992. For those not familiar with his work, McKenna was the ultimate psychedelic intellectual: an acclaimed ethnobotanist, mystic, and hyper-articulate lecturer, he spoke and wrote fluently about a variety of subjects, including entheogens, shamanism, metaphysics, alchemy, semiotics, technology, futurism, environmentalism, and human consciousness, to name only a few. His rambling brand of wisdom is admittedly sometimes challenging to decrypt, yet his admirers find that a McKenna lecture is always worth the time, and that the wisdom of the words, even those which defy rational understanding, can be absorbed almost osmotically. Some of McKenna's notable books include The Invisible Landscape, True Hallucinations, and the Archaic Revival; his brother Dennis McKenna penned a notable memoir of their life together, entitled The Brotherhood of The Screaming Abyss. McKenna enjoyed a long and extraordinarily close association with Esalen and with Big Sur; before his death on April 3rd, 2000, he had been scholar in residence many times and delivered scores of talks which are housed in the Esalen archives. “Politics and Ethos” covers a lot of ground (typical for McKenna), including psychedelic ontologies, modernity, language, reason, religion, freedom, nostalgia and more. Tune into the nasal-voiced genius. Take the ride.
Centuries ago, a music emerged out of the world's deserts and tribal cultures. It was built on trance-like rhythms and the most primitive instruments: flutes, rattles, and drums. Against all odds, in the late 20th century elements of this ancient indigenous music were embraced by electronic musicians searching for an earthy, vital sound to balance the dematerialized tones of electronic instruments, and ground the atmospheric soundscapes of ambient. Their quest led to a hybrid electro-acoustic genre originally called "techno-tribal" and later "tribal ambient." In retrospect, it was part of a wider movement ethno-botanist TERENCE McKENNA famously termed The Archaic Revival. Why would a sophisticated, technologically advanced culture want to revive an ancient, supposedly primitive one? In an era where our experience is increasingly mediated, artificial, and virtual — we seek authenticity, direct experience, and a deeper connection to our environment, our history, and our inner worlds. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, ambient electronics meet flutes, rattles, drums, and drones, on a journey across the desert mesas, wind-blown dunes, and rocky plains of the tribal ambient soundscape called TECHNO-TRIBAL. Part 1 of a two-part program about the increasing use of consciousness-expanding substances, many of them illegal, for health and personal spiritual growth. People around the world are using these consciousness-expanding substances, also called psychedelics or hallucinogens, to treat conditions ranging from allergies and anxiety to alcoholism and addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder, and many other problems. Some people use these materials regularly in low doses to enhance their everyday life, or they may use them more occasionally in larger doses for a more profound experience. This is a topic that has gotten more attention these days, due in part to Michael Pollan's recent book entitled How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence, which includes accounts of his own personal experiments with LSD, psilocybin and DMT. I thought that now would be a good time to dig into my trove of recordings and play you some that I've made on the topic of psychedelic drugs over the years between 1976 when Timothy Leary came to speak at my college, and just a couple of weeks ago when I recorded an interview with a friend who was under the influence of LSD at the time. In this episode I'm going to start out by playing you part of a recording that I made in 1991 of a talk given by Terence McKenna at the California Institute for Integral Studies in San Francisco. Terence was a visionary explorer and writer, and a singularly engaging speaker. He wrote books like The Archaic Revival, Food of the Gods, and True Hallucinations, all of which I own and recommend. He also happened to have gone to high school with one of my best friends in San Francisco, so I'm lucky to have gotten to know Terry personally a little bit too, and I treasure a letter that he sent me a short while before he died. After Terence McKenna, we're going to hear from Rick Doblin, the President of an organization called MAPS (which stands for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies). Rick will talk about that organization's work to bring currently illegal psychedelic materials into the light of science so that they can be studied properly and used to help people. You'll hear Rick speaking to doctors, therapists, researchers and other members of MAPS at a MAPS conference in San Jose, CA in 2010, and then you'll hear Rick in conversation with me, at MAPS' former headquarters in Ben Lomond, CA, where I met him for the first time. In the next episode, episode 24, which is also available now, we'll continue this psychedelic journey and you'll hear my brief chat with psychologist Ralph Metzner, one of the early LSD research pioneers at Harvard University along with Timothy Leary, Richard Alpert (aka Ram Das), Huston Smith, and Andrew Weil. Ralph talked with me just before going onstage at the New Living Expo in San Francisco in 2012. After that I'm going to play you a short bit of a recording of Timothy Leary lecturing at my college, UC San Diego, in 1976 or 1977, talking about psychedelic drugs, pleasure, and human destiny. After that we'll hear Dr. Andrew Weil at that same MAPS conference in 2010, talking about how he cured some of his own allergies using LSD, and then we'll listen to a personal conversation I had with Dr. Weil around 2012, about the mind-body connection and how consciousness-expanding substances can play a role in optimizing that connection. Finally, I'll have a chat with a friend here in Tucson Arizona, who, as we talked, was under the influence of LSD. He tells about the subtle ways that it is influencing his perceptions and his engagement with his art-making. Although the artist behind the musical project has been working on the local scene, since 2009, he has had the fortune to grow in music since he was very young and have great influences in different musical styles, working for the music of very personal way last several years, but I think the pinnacle of all this came with the birth of "Archaic Revival" that started as a musical project in 2015 in the visible part or publicly so to speak, but the project had been working since 2014, precisely seeking to unite many elements under the previously explained concept. The project carries two fundamental bases that is my Infinite devotion for the House and the most sacred respect I have for the Techno, with different variables within other styles such as Acid, Dub, Ambient and Experimental music. His music has been supported and played by artists such as: Santiago Salazar [Santuario Podcast #20 and Podcast #27 by Dub lab LA.USA] and Cari Lekebush [Goute Mes Mix #48 by Goute Mes Disques] [Resident Advisor Dj Charts July 2015 top 10] Other outstanding supports by: Echoplex, Amotik, Slam, Luigi Madonna, Jason Fernandez, Klaudia Gawlas, Cristian Varela, and Colombia local support by: Deraout, Julianna, Magdalena, Lunate, Dsum, Kriss Salas, Gotshell, Durcheinander and many more. We’re pleased to introduce a new segment where we dive deep into the history of the Esalen Institute, in order to focus on a lecture previously recorded here in Big Sur. Today our subject is Terence McKenna and his talk entitled “Tryptamine Hallucinogen Consciousness”, recorded in December, 1982. McKenna was an American ethnobotanist, author, lecturer and widely-respected psychonaut known internationally for his work with shamanism, metaphysics, consciousness, and of course, psychedelic medicines. He’s the author of "The Invisible Landscape," "The Archaic Revival," "Food of the Gods," and "True Hallucinations." His playful yet highly powerful mode of intellectual inquiry around the topic of plant medicines made him a well-loved and highly-respected countercultural figure. While Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey, and Ram Dass were better well-known in psychedelic circles for their pioneering and often rebellious leadership during the first psychedelic wave of the 1960’s, McKenna rose to prominence later, first enjoying notoriety during the 1980’s. One of the most frequent stops on his lecture circuit was Big Sur and the Esalen Institute, where he lectured nearly 100 times over the years on subjects as diverse as “Dynamics of Hyperspace,” “Reflections on Eros,” “Our Cyberspiritual Future,” and “Biotech and Nanonfungal Futures.” Further commentary is provided by the author and environmentalist Allan Badiner, who is also the convener of the 2019 Psychedelic Integration conference at Esalen. Badiner knew Terence McKenna intimately, and thus was able to shed some light on the man behind the message.

Martin Wittfooth is an illustrator and fine artist living in New York City. His surreal oil paintings are much more than simply depictions of animals – they are emotional self-portraits that demand to be seen as a timestamp of our place here on Earth – where we have come from and more importantly where we are going. Full shownotes: http://yourcreativepush.com/151 In this episode, Martin discusses: -The importance of remembering why you started doing this creative endeavor in the first place. -How some artists and musicians have the curse of becoming too successful and then losing the initial passion that made them so good in the first place. -His love for the surprises, or “Easter eggs” that come from his art. -His next show, based off of Terrence McKenna and The Archaic Revival. -How podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience and The Duncan Trussel Family Hour are evidence of a shift in the power of expression and information. -More details about his upcoming show in October 2016. -How mistakes can often end up not being mistakes at all. -Trying new things just to see if you can get happy, unexpected results. -Dismissing the inner critic while at the same time being able to absorb valuable criticisms from trusted peers. Martin's Final Push will inspire you to enjoy the process, rather than the end result. Quotes: “If there is to be an audience member that you are creating for, let it just be yourself.” “It’s not the outcome of what happens when the piece is done, it’s the process of making it itself that matters.” Links mentioned: The Archaic Revival by Terence McKenna The Duncan Trussell Family Hour Podcast -- Episode 137 with Martin Wittfooth Connect with Martin: Website / Facebook / Instagram

Full shownotes: http://yourcreativepush.com/150 In this episode, Martin discusses: -What he attempts to accomplish with his paintings. -How his style has developed over time and the experience of looking back at his old work. -One of his earliest creative memories when he realized that his art could cause a reaction in people. -How he sees his paintings as “emotional self-portraits.” -His fascination with the way that the human species communicates with one another on many different levels. -How young adults have to make decisions on what they want to do for the rest of their lives at too early of an age. -The difficulty of trying to find a marriage between painting and the business of painting. -How we live in a time where the knowledge and advice is out there on the internet… we just need to know where to look and how to ask for it. -The importance of enjoying the act of your creative endeavor rather than the results of it. Quotes: “Through drawing, all the sudden people took interest in what I was doing.” “I’m trying to get myself somehow trapped on the canvas but in a way that isn’t the predictable image of me.” “If it stops feeling like play, then it’s probably not worth doing.” Links mentioned: The Archaic Revival by Terence McKenna The Duncan Trussell Family Hour Podcast -- Episode 137 with Martin Wittfooth Connect with Martin: Website / Facebook / Instagram

This episode goes into a pseudo-debate featuring a more conservative point of view versus a more liberal point of view. We have ex-Israeli militant and now Canadian citizen and doctor of veterinary medicine, Roey Kestelman who acts as our "conservative". Joining him a returning guest on Vancouver Real is Alexander Boldizar (The Anarchist Lawyer) who is an author and ex-Harvard Law graduate who assumes the "liberal" position. Both bring up excellent points worth considering.

A seminal interview with Dennis McKenna, Ph.D on the evolution of ayahuasca and the entheogenic movement and the imminent tipping point on planet earth the movement parallels. In which experiential journalist Rak Razam quizzes Dennis on his role as a scientist and a leading ayahuasca researcher, while Dennis waxes lyrical on bio-piracy, the proliferating business of shamanism in Peru and around the world, and the urgent need for integration of the plant teacher experience in people's everyday lives to truly make a difference. Is the sacrament of ayahuasca becoming commercialized? As pharmahuasca – and the startling development of ayahuasca in a pill form – spreads beyond the vine itself, is the wisdom of globaluasca transcending its Gaian roots to connect with a new generation without the plant dogma? Is the future a religious, compartmentalized Entheogenic Evangelism? Or will lodges transform into "psychedelic monasteries" training plant Jedis? Its been ten years now since Dennis' brother Terence passed on, and Dennis deconstructs some of his theories, from Timewave Zero to the Singularity and provides a critical analysis of the 2012 phenomenon and the unfolding Archaic Revival... Guest speaker: Terence McKenna PROGRAM NOTES: [NOTE: All quotes below are by Terence McKenna.] "People without plants are in a state of perpetual neurosis, a state of existential wanting." "The numinous depth of the mystery that seems to have called us out of the animal mind is completely impenetrable to modern analysis." "And I don't mean this metaphorically. I want to be taken seriously as proposing that the ennui of modernity is the consequence of a disruptive symbiotic relationship between ourselves and vegetable nature." "… of what is essentially a pathological personality pattern. The pattern of the omniscient, omnipresent, all-knowing, wrathful male deity, no one you would invite to your garden party." "Technique [in taking entheogens] to me is a kind of a … I'm reluctant to talk about it because it seems so obvious to me what good technique is. I mean, you sit down, you shut up, and you pay attention is basically the good technique. And then the footnotes add; on an empty stomach, in a dark room, feeling comfortable." "The situation that we now reside in is not one of seeking the answer, but facing the answer." "I mean, we're playing with half a deck as long as we tolerate that the Cardinals of government and science should dictate where human curiosity can legitimately send its attention and where it cannot. It's essentially a preposterous situation. It is essentially a civil rights issue because what we're talking about here is the repression of a religious sensibility In fact, not a religious sensibility, THE religious sensibility." "Life lived in the absence of the psychedelic experience that primordial shamanism is based on is life trivialized, life denied, life enslaved to the ego." "Think about our dilemma on this planet. If the expansion of consciousness does not loom large in the human future, what kind of future is it going to be?" "The ‘public' has no history, has no future, lives in a golden moment created by credit, which binds them ineluctably to a fascist system that is never criticized. This is the ultimate consequence of having broken off this symbiotic relationship with the vegetable, feminine, maternal matrix of the planet." "How can we know who is the other until we know who is the self?"
