Part 1 of Episode 150! Yay!! And now for something completely different. This episode is a bit of a departure from our regular show. We invite Alex Criddle and Cody Noconi, researchers into the psychedelic origins of Mormonism, to respond to the recent debate on the Mormon Book Reviews channel between ourselves and Mormon apologist, Brian Hales. Brian attempts to provide the apologetic response to the theory that Joseph Smith utilized psychedelics (entheogens) in the early history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in order to facilitate visionary experiences for the early Saints. Disinformation requires much greater effort than simply stating information so we do our best to debunk his debunking (rebunk the theory?). This one is a long haul so we split it into 2 episodes to make it a little more digestible. Show notes: Video version: https://youtu.be/3l0L1EHtQOo Support our research and outreach: https://www.patreon.com/SeerStonedProductions Original here: Psychedelics & Early Mormonism Theory Brian Hales Responds on Mormon Book Reviews https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE7J0y_cPpg Further information: “The Higher Powers of Man” - Frederick M. Smith was a prophet of the RLDS Mormons and paternal grandson of the founder Joseph Smith. In 1918 Frederick published this Ph.D. dissertation breaking down altered states of consciousness from an early psychologist's perspective, specifically, religious states of ‘ecstacy' as he called it. A lengthy chapter devoted to peyote is particularly worth reading. “The Higher Powers: Fred M - Smith and the Peyote Ceremonies” - Shelby Barnes' 1995 paper highlighting the curious psychedelic interests of Frederick M. Smith. While Barnes does not make any direct connections to Joseph Smith and psychedelics, Barnes does note that Frederick's interests were an attempt to find the reliable keys to visionary revelation that his grandfather Joseph had demonstrated. “Restoration and the Sacred Mushroom” - Dr. Robert Beckstead's seminal research paper presented at the August 2007 Sunstone Symposium. Beckstead's paper was the first to propose the possibility that Joseph Smith used psychedelics to facilitate visionary experiences. “A 1920's Harvard Psychedelic Circle with a Mormon Connection: Peyote Use amongst the Harvard Aesthetes” Alan Piper's 2016 paper highlighting Frederick M. Smith's interest in psychedelics, and how as a standing Mormon prophet Fred was funding a 1920s group of Harvard students with peyote. “Revelation Through Hallucination: A discourse on the Joseph Smith-entheogen theory” - Bryce Blankenagel and Cody Noconi's 2017 follow-up paper further explores the hypothesis originally put forward by Dr. Robert Beckstead a decade earlier. “The Entheogenic Origins of Mormonism: A Working Hypothesis” - Dr. Robert Beckstead, Bryce Blankenagel, Cody Noconi, and Michael Winkelman's paper published in the Journal of Psychedelic Studies in June 2019. This was the first paper on the subject published in an academic journal. “Visions, Mushrooms, Fungi, Cacti, and Toads: Joseph Smith's Reported Use of Entheogens” Brian Hales' 2020 response paper to the one published in the Journal of Psychedelic Studies. As a believing Mormon engaged in academic apologetics, Hales details what he perceives to be holes in the proposed hypothesis. “The Psychedelic History of Mormonism, Magic, and Drugs” - Cody Noconi's book published in 2021. “Psychedelics as a Means of Revelation in Early and Contemporary Mormonism (Part 1)” Alex Criddle's 2023 paper that was originally presented at the Forms of Psychedelic Life conference at UC Berkeley (April 14-15, 2023). “Psychedelics as a Means of Revelation in Early and Contemporary Mormonism (Part 2)” A continuation of Alex Criddle's 2023 paper. “A Real Spiritual High: In Defense of Psychedelic Mysticism” An enlightening philosophical essay from Alex Criddle. In this episode I sit down with Jake Dowd, whose story is a powerful testament to the transformative power of faith and recovery. I first met at an event in Hawaii when he let me sample his $12,000 bottle of wine...and today we got to "talk story" (as they say in Hawaii) Jake shares how he went from being $250,000 in debt and facing marital issues, to making millions by becoming involved in the dangerous world of arms dealing, influenced by the film "War Dogs." A pivotal moment in the episode is Jake's recounting of a supernatural encounter that serves as a turning point in his life. Describing a spiritual battle and his brother's role in it, Jake speaks about experiencing protection through a vision of angels and ultimately finding safety in Jesus. The latter part of the episode focuses on overcoming addiction, restoring his marriage, and experiencing a drug raid. His DMT and psilocybin studies in the early 1990s initiated the renewal of human research with psychedelics in the U.S. In this conversation, Dr. Strassman discusses the finer details of DMT, from endogenous production in humans and animals, to visionary experiences and theological implications. Dr. Strassman also covers the research that's been done regarding endogenous DMT, clarifying what we do and don't know about the role of the pineal gland and how this might relate to what is reported during near-death experiences. He also discusses the personal and relational quality of psychedelic experiences induced by DMT, mentioning that unitive mystical experiences were actually rare in the trials he conducted, with more experiences having a personal quality, drawing upon the life experiences and interests of the participants. In closing, Dr. Strassman shares his thoughts on the origins of the visions that many report during DMT use. In this episode you'll hear: The overlap between psychedelic experiences and meditation techniques The relationship between fear, self-awareness, and difficult DMT experiences The placebo effect and psychedelic research Dr. Strassman's thoughts on non-hallucinogenic psychedelics DMT as a possible treatment for strokes to prevent damage and speed recovery Effects of microdosing in animals and humans Quotes: “I think the best term for these compounds is psychedelic, which means mind manifesting or mind disclosing, because only one of our fifty-five or so normal volunteers had what one might call a mystical unitive state. … Everybody basically had an experience that was totally dependent on them. It was not inherent in the drug.” [9:45] “You could still speculate that to the extent that non-drug states resemble those brought on by giving DMT… that DMT plays a role in the production of those states. But the data aren't there yet. That's why we need more people doing this research.” [24:16] “If psychedelics are super placebos and if we have a psychedelic drug in our brain, it's attempting to speculate that normally the placebo effect could be mediated by endogenous DMT.” [27:42] “If you starve neurons of oxygen they start dying, but if you add DMT they survive much longer. So there seems to be some neuroprotective effect of DMT on ischemic damage to neurons, at least in the test tube.” [32:27] Links: Dr. Strassman's website The Psychedelic Handbook by Dr. Strassman DMT: The Spirit Molecule by Dr. Strassman DMT and the Soul of Prophecy: A New Science of Spiritual Revelation in the Hebrew Bible by Dr. Strassman Dr. Strassman on FacebookPrevious episode: Exploring DMT Entities with Matthew Johnson, PhD Psychedelic Medicine Association Porangui

Psychedelics have long been connected to religion, including the Jewish and Christian traditions. In addition, there are now psychedelic chaplains, psychedelic churches, and people seeking out psychedelics not only for spiritual reasons but also to treat conditions like PTSD and anxiety. Yet like with many other aspects of culture, the church is ill prepared to address psychedelics. Kaleb Graves is our guest as we explore questions related to psychedelic theology. Graves is a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship minister and educator living in North Carolina. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in psychology. He is focusing his efforts on Psychedelic Theology. PSALMS CLASS 09/12/22 Why Psalm 1 & 2 Are An Introduction to ALL The Psalms: There are no opening Inscriptions to either them ( 2 of 3 w/o) The MSS ran all Psalms together, no chapter breaks, so considered as ONE chpt. Psalm 2 like Ps. 1 is credited to David & both seem to flow together Acts 4:25 who [a]by the mouth of Your servant David have said: Why did the nations rage & the people plot vain things Acts 13:33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. ( see Ps. 2:7--the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.) BOTH Psalms 1 & 2 contain the general content & tenor of ALL PSALMS Comparisons/Contrasts of PSALM 1 & 2: 1 focused on Individual/Ps. 2 focused on nations BOTH Ps. Contrast wicked vs. Righteous…Ps. 1 Right. Man /wicked man & Ps. 2 Right ntns./wicked ntns. Also in same way Blessing is contrasted to cursing, as individuals/ntns. The right. Man/ntns. do such & become such & such…The wicked man/ntns. Do such & such & become such & such BOTH Psalms show the FAITHFULNESS of God Individually/nationally..Blessing & Judgment are shown to be the clear, direct & OVERIDING Themes BOTH Psalms show the INDISSOLUBLE connection between righteousness & Blessings vs. Wickedness & Cursings BOTH Psalms also show the BLESSING/Non Blessing of a Fulfilled/Unfullfilled Covenant by Yahweh Indiv./ntly. KEYNOTE: The Blessing of Following God & God's Faithfulness Towards UsJ NOTE:The Psalms are an open hearted expression of people attempting to follow God, It takes a Spiritual Revelation to Walk with God! THE successful NATION follows GOD PSALMS 1 Psalm 1 contrasts the END of one who LOVES God's LAW to the END of one who is Ungodly Deut. 11:26-28 26 “Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: 27 the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today; 28 and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known. Joshua 1:8 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[a] shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. God never did away With the LAW when the New Covenant of GRACE was ushered in through Jesus sacrifice….THE LAW is GOOD & to be followed The PSALMS testify to that…It's just that under the covenant of Grace we appropriate/apply the Law in a NEW WAY!:-) The Psalms are a Yeah & AMEN to The Pentateuch PSALMS 1 1Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the [a]ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he [b]meditates day and night. Vs. 1) BLESSED Is The Man….. STOP RIGHT HERE!!??......And take a ‘SELAH” Moment!!...This is one of those words in the Bible that can never be FULLY Unpacked/understood….& It at times it slaps us upside the Head!!?? BLESSED (eser..Esh…air.. #H835)….blessed, happiness, HOW Happy!!! Or Blessedness of Blessedness, or Oh the Happiness of Happinesses or How completely Happy! …PLURAL in Hebrew is for Emphasis, like our !! ‘ Blessed' is also the 1st word used in the Sermon on the Mount & this word is always related to service to God.. we were created to function best serving God The use of the PLURAL in the Hebrew shows powerfully the MANIFOLD or many, many ways God intends to Bless the Man/woman serving HIM! ( ‘There shall be SHOWERS of Blessing!')…POINT: God never just intends for us to Have ONE Blessing…BUT a Plethora of THEM!!!! This person will have all the BEST of everything…gifts, possessions, desires…They will Experience COMPLETE Happiness, in every regard…Complete & Total satisfaction in ALL WAYS, having all you could ever want or desire…This is the best possible state a person could ever be in!!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,CULMINATION of course = HEAVEN…no wants, no sadness, no pain, no lacks ..NO dissatisfaction whatsoever!!...a Many faceted Word! HARD for us to get our Minds & Hearts around! (why God made it a Plural word) OH BUT THERE IS MORE!!!>>>>>>>>>>>> Vs. 1) BLESSED Is The Man….. CONTINUED…. BLESSED (eser..Esh…air.. #H835)…FROM a ROOT #H833 asar…ah-share……to go or be straight, walk straight, be well ordered, be consistent..READ from the Hebrew as to be/show one of an exceptional state…”The highest blessings attainable are given to those who walk straight & live a well ordered life” II Peter 1:3,4 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the [a]corruption that is in the world through lust. I Tim. 6:6 But Godliness with CONTENTMENT(sufficiency, satisfaction –(a perfect condition in life) is great gain There is a definite connection between Happiness & Godliness! ALL in this person is working perfectly…no Chaos or disorder all is HARMONY THAT MAN In Hebrew language for emphasis…not just any MAN but The NEW MAN Eph. 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.(Col. 3:10) Eph. 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; God wants to Bless us beyond our wildest dreams or Imaginations!! Eph. 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, BLESSEDNESS ENCOMPASSES All That God GIVES To US as we walk with Him in a straight & ordered Life…ALL That we can ever give to Him is responded to By ALL He Gives to Us in Blessing QUESTION!? J LOL…Who GIVES the MOST!? Our commitment to ABBA is so minimal compared to HIS Commitment to us!! The Blessings He showers upon us are so much greater than anything we could ever get to give to Him!?!? The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) is FOUNDATIONAL to a relationship with God & has roots in PSALM 1 It Is a Wonderful Revelation PSALMS starts out with ‘BLESSED' as the FIRST word as every person wants to be BLESSED…we were made that wayJ… The PSALMS show us the path to Blessing!! Who walks not in the counsel of the [a]ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; Verses 1-3 shows us a GROWTH PROCESS 1 What a man/woman of God AVOIDS 2 What a Man/Woman of God DELIGHTS In 3 What a Man/Woman of God BECOMES = A Fruitful Tree A Progression out of Darkness(sin)…………to that of an OVERCOMER Walks…….Stands……Sits Counsel….Way/Path…..Seat Ungodly….Sinners…Scornful WALKS /Walketh NOT:Blessed is the Man/woman who has not been walking & still is NOT walking… Is In the Perfect tense in Hebrew…David is implying BLESSING Comes only after you have begun to walk in a ‘NEW WAY' for a TIME….It grows & flourishes…is proven out through consistency Scripture talks about ‘not walking in' or also‘putting off' sin Lev. 20:23 And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them. Jn. 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. Romans 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. II Cr. 5:7 For we walk by FAITH & NOT By sight Eph. 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;….Col. 3:8,9 Col. 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Council Of The Ungodly is The advice of those unrighteous criminal, hostile, those not acknowledging God …ungodly = the loose & the lax, taking the easy or lazy way (like a harlot women)..Not strong, no stability Pharisees & Saducees counciled against Jesus..Mtt.12:14,26:59,14:55,Mk.15:1 Acts 6,7 The council of ungodly leadership led to Stephen's death ROMANS1:18-26 18 For [God does not overlook sin and] the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who in their wickedness suppress and stifle the truth, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them [in their inner consciousness], for God made it evident to them. 20 For ever since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through His workmanship [all His creation, the wonderful things that He has made], so that they [who fail to believe and trust in Him] are without excuse and without defense. 21 For even though [a]they knew God [as the Creator], they did not [b]honor Him as God or give thanks [for His wondrous creation]. On the contrary, they became worthless in their thinking [godless, with pointless reasonings, and silly speculations], and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory and majesty and excellence of the immortal God for [c]an image [worthless idols] in the shape of mortal man and birds and four-footed animals and reptiles24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their own hearts to [sexual] impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them [abandoning them to the degrading power of sin], 25 because [by choice] they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading and vile passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural [a function contrary to nature], Hang up on The Devil! Standing/Stands in The WAY/PATH of Sinners …..A further slide from just listening to sinful advice to beginning to partake of it…then we begin to MISS THE MARK cause Offense, beginning to associate with & practice sin (the worlds ways & habits) First listened…'Hath God said”…then did ‘ate of the fruit' Nor Sits/Sitteth In The Seat of the Scornful(Mocker) …Now living In & Controlled by a life of sin, a Total submission To a Life of Sin…it's become a part of who they are , they now speak evil of the righteous…last & worst state of sin…Total deterioration of a life Open scorn of God , implies a person fighting against God…only place in PSALMS Proverbs 21:24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath I Cr. 15:33 Be not deceived evil COMMUNICATIONS corrupt good Morals. Proverbs 4:23,24 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. NEW Testament Parallel… James 1:13-15 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. **The UNGODLY are not just rapists, murders, adulterers(the WORST kinds of sinners) …BUT Those Who GIVE NO Thought to GOD or have no Time for Him In their Lives** A Progression from GOD-CENTERED Living To Self-Centered….(Phil. 2) WALKS---Decisions, we make decisions all day long (Is GOD always in the Picture?) Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Day & Night…….. Continually, in Blessing or Trial…your mind always goes here, even in doing other things during the day always in the back of your mind Luke 2:36,37 Anna Prophetess , served God With Fasting & prayers Night & Day TO STIMULATE Your Mind with GOD's WORD Brings Life & Refreshing RECAP…. Vs. 1 Blessing is declared for those who determine to walk uprightly Vs.2 We begin to see where the Blessed Persons Thoughts gravitate towards Vs. 3 We are now seeing what The Man/ Woman of God BECOMES Because as you DELIGHT In & MEDITATE on GOD …(actually anything) you become like what you Behold II Cor. 3:18 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate[a] the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
Conrad discusses how individuals may receive revelations from the Spirit of Truth that are difficult to share with others due to the fact that they may not understand them. He goes on to say that it is important to discern whether or not the revelation is from the Spirit of Truth by checking it with mentors, reading the Bible, and/or searching the scriptures.Conrad talks about how when he has a spiritual revelation, it's like two tuning forks vibrating in harmony with each other. He says that in order for someone else to catch that same revelation, they have to be open and receptive to it. Sometimes it takes a while for the revelation to sink in, and other times people act like they just figured it out even though Conrad tried to tell them the same thing years ago. Conrad also says that just because you have a revelation, it doesn't mean you can walk in it yet. It's important to meditate on the revelation and let it sink in before trying to apply it to your life.Conrad discusses how important it is to read the Bible regularly, and to meditate on and compare the scriptures. According to Conrad, when one does this, the spirit of truth will start to reveal itself and provide guidance. Conrad quotes from Isaiah 28:9, which talks about how those who are taught by God will receive precept upon precept, line upon line.Conrad argues that in order to be a disciple of Jesus, one must continue in his words, as well as be taught by the Spirit of truth. He goes on to say that often times, people know the word but don't apply it in their lives, making them hypocrites. Jesus says that we should get the beam out of our own eye before trying to help our brother. The Spirit of truth will guide us into all truth.Sometimes the Spirit of Truth will quicken some mind-blowing truths to us. I talk about how I handle them. Podcast: Light on Life Season Eight Episode Thirty. In this week's podcast, we are headed to the book of Ephesians to take a look at spiritual revelations. That book contains several prayers that Paul prayed for the Ephesian believers. Often, you wonder how or what we should pray for our fellow believers in Christ. Well, the Holy Spirit helped us in this area. […] The post Why God Wants You to Have Spiritual Revelation Flowing In Your Life appeared first on emeryhorvath.com. This podcast continues our previous lesson from 1 Corinthians 13:6 and Paul's statement that divine biblical love does not rejoice in iniquity. What exactly does this mean? Well, I can tell you one thing that it means: Oy! Mama Mia! It is so expensive. It is going to cost us a lot and it will definitely bring out the worst in our fallen human nature, that's for certain! On our podcast today, we will begin with Jeremiah 42:5 which will then give us a text to compare it with in Exodus 20:5. We'll then look at John 8:31-32 when Yeshua said,“If you abide (live) in My Word (in the Word to Me), you are my disciples indeed and you shall Know THE TRUTH, and THE TRUTH shall make you free" and compare this to Proverbs 29:18, as I would understand it from the Hebrew: “With nothing of any vision (no Word of Spiritual Revelation), he is person who runs loose, wild, free, disheveled, and out of control (Hebrew: Pey Resh Ayin); however, in guarding the Law (the Torah), he has rejoicing or happiness!" This brings me to a statement: biblical love is so costly and so terribly expensive and Paul kind of addresses this in 1 Corinthians 13:6 when he says that love does not rejoice in iniquity. Well, tell this to your fallen human nature; you will most certainly get into an argument with your flesh when you try to order it to submit to the desire of your inner New Man in Messiah. Also, on this podcast, we will have a look into the overall context of the Book of Job and its sad no-love story that is given to us to read about. Certainly for Job, with friends like this, who needs enemies? This is what I might be thinking. The "Job" story is going to show us a lot about how much true love can and will cost us when we learn about the real meaning behind the English term "prayer." Yes, praying and making judgments in love are two related ideas in Hebrew. We'll find out about that today. In today’s Solidarity Fridays episode, Kyle and Joe have a discussion about spirituality and spiritual development. Joe was rubbed the wrong way by a podcast he recently listened to where a previously very psychedelic-oriented Qabalist said that psychedelics didn't really help with spiritual growth. This leads to a discussion built on many questions: what is spiritual development? What is enlightenment? Does drug-taking always need a set intention based on growth? Do "I need a break from bullshit" or "I want to have fun with my friends" count as intentions? And who are we worried will discredit or judge us for having those be our intentions or keys to spiritual development? They also touch on religion and their embedded spiritual goals, the importance and power of the communal aspect of some of these experiences, the community that church brings to people and what's changing as more people move away from religion, hypnosis and the dangers of inaccurate or entirely fabricated "memories," the importance of diversifying your tools for growth, the trouble in trying to define shamanism, the problems with therapists and facilitators bringing their own frameworks into sessions rather than letting clients define their own experience, and the unfortunate passing of the Fungi Academy's Oliver Merivee (fundraiser link below). Lastly, they remind us that there are only a few spots left for the upcoming Navigating Psychedelics for Clinicians and Therapists class, which begins on January 8th. If you've been considering taking the class, what better time than the new year to take that step? Time to leave 2020 behind and step into 2021 with purpose! Happy New Year! Notable Quotes “The thing that had me keep coming back to breathwork is that sense of community. And I think a lot of people start to find their community in these medicine spaces and ayahuasca circles and whatnot, because you’re having an experience together and being able to explore and share that, and sometimes these are so vulnerable and so deep experiences- you’re together with a bunch of strangers and you feel like you just shared things or experienced things that you never really experienced with the closest people in your life. And somehow, that creates a sense of meaning or connection that is hard to find elsewhere. It’s interesting to really kind of view the community or community aspect as part of spirituality, in a sense.” -Kyle “It’s interesting to hear people have these experiences and then have a facilitator say, ‘Yes, that’s what happened to you.’ How do you know? I don’t know. I’ve had plenty of these past life experiences and I have no idea if that was actually real.” -Kyle“Of course this is a complicated topic, and really messy. We wouldn’t have this many episodes of the podcast if it wasn’t.” -Joe Links DMT and the Soul of Prophecy: A New Science of Spiritual Revelation in the Hebrew Bible, by Rick Strassman Shamanic Qabalah: A Mystical Path to Uniting the Tree of Life & the Great Work, by Daniel Moler Tantric Physics I & II (Vol.1: Cave of the Numinous, Vol.2: Sacred Body, Sacred Space), by Craig Williams Thevenusproject.com Psychologyconcepts.com: The Fallacy of Misplaced Concreteness Oliver Merivee (founder of the Fungi Academy)’s Memorial Fundraiser Support the show! When we don’t have a vision, we risk making the wrong decisions or no decisions at all. God alone can reveal His perfect plan for our lives.
In today’s Solidarity Fridays episode, Joe and Kyle sit down and discuss a recent segment on CNN highlighting Brian Muraresku's book, The Immortality Key: The Secret History of the Religion with No Name, about the role psychedelics have likely played in the origin of religion and western civilization. They talk about psychedelics throughout history, like the Eleusinian Mysteries, soma use in Hindu scriptures, therianthropy and the idea of psychedelics leading towards these human-animal hybrid visions, and even the idea that Moses was huffing acacia or some other type of mind-altering plant available in that area at the time. Does it matter to the movement if all of this is historically accurate? And why do we romanticize ancient psychedelic use so much? They then spend some time on a very important but unpleasant topic: accountability for misconduct in the psychedelic space. With no well-known Yelp-like website to review facilitators or retreat centers, and abuse (or at least unethical relationships) seeming to be very common in the therapeutic world, what's the best way to handle abuse and abusers? In the legal therapeutic world, there are at least licensing boards to contact or police to reach out to (since nothing illegal would be tied to the victim). Is the answer ex-communication? Restorative justice? Some sort of mediator? Filming everything for the protection of both sides? Whatever the ideas, the conversation needs to continue and louder voices need to be a part of it. They review some other news stories, Kyle lets us know that he's been taking ketamine-assisted psychotherapy training at Polaris Insights center and Alex Grey just followed him on Twitter, and Joe introduces a possible new Solidarity Fridays segment, "Joe's Paranoid Update." And reminder- An Introduction to Philosophy and Psychedelics with Lenny Gibson begins October 28th. Sign up now! Notable Quotes “I didn’t really grow up very religious, so I’m curious- the people that did and may not understand this indigenous kind of perspective of using plants to alter consciousness and have some sort of relationship with the universe- I wonder how that came off to them, seeing this on CNN.” -Kyle “What is it about that that is so intriguing to us at times? I know for myself, looking at a lot of Indigenous cultures or ancient traditions helped me kind of provide a framework for understanding some of these experiences that maybe western traditions kind of have but don’t really have. Maybe I found more comfort in these traditions, but to say they have all the answers because they were possibly doing some of this stuff, I think could get a little tricky at times. Like, why do we want to romanticize the past so much?” -Kyle “I think Dimitri Mugianis mentioned this to us: what kind of movement is it that would cover up rape to achieve its ends, and serious sexual misconduct? And victims have been told: ‘If you out this rape, this is bad for the movement, so please don’t do it.’ Are you fucking kidding me? No. Absolutely not. If someone raped you, [that’s] not ok.” -Joe “We’re not waiting on the FDA to get our ethics together. Ethics can happen right now.” -Joe Links Psychedelics Today: Veronika Gold – Methods of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy Forbes.com: Apple iOS 14: Brilliant New Security And Privacy Features You Can Use Now Cnn.com: Did hallucinogens play role in origin of religion? In today's Solidarity Fridays episode, Joe and Kyle discuss several recent items in the news that further the advancement of psychedelics, including: Canadian company Havn Lifescience following Compass Pathways' lead and registering with the Canadian Securities Exchange under the symbol HAVN, Amsterdam-based psychedelic retreat company Synthesis announcing that leading Clinical Psychologist Dr. Rosalind Watts has joined their advisory board (which also includes Dr. Robin Carhart-Harris, who joined in November), European psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy company AWAKN Life Sciences Inc. announcing the launch of its Commercial Clinical Research Division with Professor David Nutt and (past Psychedelics Today guest) Dr. Ben Sessa at the helm, a recent study at the National Center for Biotechnology Information that further proved that psychedelics promote structural and functional neural plasticity, and a new app called "Trip" from Field Trip Psychedelics Inc., which was designed to help people through psychedelic trips, and brings up the very difficult balance of encouraging harm reduction and safety while also essentially promoting dangerous experiences. They also discuss a recent article in ScienceAlert, which focused on the similarities between psychedelic trips and religious experiences through 288 people filling out a Mystical Experience Questionnaire, the Good Friday experiments’ roots of this questionnaire, and the important point that not all good data needs to be scientific and collected through clinical trials. They also talk about books by Louis Cozolino and Rick Strassman, Strassman's DMT-pineal gland hypothesis, whole-plant statistics vs. single-molecule statistics, the idea that LSD could promote life extension, the insensitivity and danger of playing music with historically bad roots during sessions (like playing anti-semitic composer Richard Wagner's works), and the possible similarities between COVID isolation and the concept of nuclear families. And they remind us that spots for the next round of Navigating Psychedelics (beginning September 17th) are going quickly- the early class is sold out, but spots remain for group 2, so sign up now! Additionally, there is a new class offering called Imagination as Revelation, developed by Kyle and Johanna Hilla-Maria Sopanen, which explores Jungian psychology. Notable Quotes “These competitive forces are going to continue to drop prices, and I think that is optimistic for accessibility, long-term. But, you know, realistically, this comes back to the same question- are psychedelics exclusively in the domain of psychiatry, or do they belong elsewhere? Is peer to peer use ok? I think yes, but how do we, as a culture, kind of land on that? That’s the big question. I think a lot of psychiatrists probably agree that people should just be able to use mushrooms when they want to, or LSD when they want to. Others would be vehemently opposed, but there are people in that field that are on our side of liberation and cognitive liberty and whatnot. So it’s there. It’s coming, I think, and competition plays a part.” - Joe “If we’re in isolation, we’re probably going to see brain atrophy. If we’re in community, we’re going to see heightened neural activity. And perhaps the brain will come back alive with the heightened neural activity. I remember hearing somebody recently talk about a visit to the actor/singer Jamie Foxx’s house. You know, super rich, right? But he’s got at least 20 people in the house at all times, and perhaps that’s how some high performers do so well- is that they’re just always around folks. ...I’m wondering, are nuclear families toxic? Is the concept of a nuclear family one of the major factors at play here?” -Joe “You can have a mystical experience. DMT doesn’t necessarily need to be involved at all. Does that take away from the value for you? If so, why? Are you fetishizing DMT? There are a lot of other drugs out there that do amazing things. Your brain is an amazing thing. The human psyche is an amazing thing. Why not fetishize the highest thing, which is psyche and its relation to the universe?” -Joe Links Digitaljournal.com: Havn Life Sciences Announces Filing of Final Prospectus and Conditional Approval for Listing on CSE Synthesis press release: Synthesis Welcomes Leading Clinical Psychologist Dr. Rosalind Watts To The Advisory Board Yahoo Finance: AWAKN Life Sciences Launches Clinical Research Division with Prof. David Nutt & Dr. Ben Sessa Identifying Suitable Studies Across Europe & North America Psychedelics Today: Ben Sessa's appearance ncbi.nlm.nih.gov: Psychedelics Promote Structural and Functional Neural Plasticity Book recommendation: The Neuroscience of Human Relationships: Attachment And the Developing Social Brain, by Louis Cozolino GreenEntrepreneur: New App Helps Guide Your Psychedelic Trip Wavepaths.com ScienceAlert: Psychedelic 'Trips' Really Are Similar to Religious Experiences in Many Ways Trippingly.net: The Mystical Experience Questionnaire (MEQ30) Book recommendation: DMT and the Soul of Prophecy: A New Science of Spiritual Revelation in the Hebrew Bible, by Rick Strassman Youtube: David Nichols- DMT And The Pineal Gland: Facts vs Fantasy DailyMail: Meet the scandal-hit son Drumpf is hoping will cost Joe Biden the Presidency Support the show Patreon Leave us a review on Facebook or iTunes Share us with your friends Join our Facebook group - Psychedelics Today group – Find the others and create community. We need to have enlightened eyes and hearts!
We understand if you are busy and can't listen to every clip of the week, but please make time for this one. It has only been digitized from reel to reel in recent weeks so hasn't been widely available for very long time. In this sermon, Uncle Harry, at age 41, delivers a very spiritual message that exalts the Word of God, under the unction of the Holy Ghost, as the source of all spiritual understanding to the sanctified believer. Preached 51 years ago, it's accuracy for our day is uncanny and directs us all to a deeper spiritual vision that our present generation desperately needs. This is anointed preaching! Bro. Jeff Price

Sermon Audio: 21min 2 Samuel 12:1-7a: And the Lord sent Nathan to David. He came to him and said to him, “There were two men in a certain city, the one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had very many flocks and herds, 3 but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. And he brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and lie in his arms, and it was like a daughter to him. 4 Now there came a traveler to the rich man, and he was unwilling to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare for the guest who had come to him, but he took the poor man's lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.” 5 Then David's anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves to die, 6 and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.” 7 Nathan said to David, “You are the man! John 1:1-14: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. 9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

DMT and the Soul of Prophecy:A New Science of Spiritual Revelation in the Hebrew Bible (Park Street Press, 2014) asks a number of provocative questions about drugs, consciousness, prophecy, and the Hebrew Bible–with attention to how a particular chemical can help us understand mystical experience. DMT (dimethyltryptamine) is a molecule endogenous to several mammals including humans, as well as the active psychedelic ingredient in a number of plant species around the world–most notably in an Amazonian brew called ayahuasca. Rick Strassman‘s first book, DMT: The Spirit Molecule, showcases his research in the 1990s at the University of New Mexico, during which he injected several volunteers with DMT as part of a government-sanctioned research project. During the trials, volunteers experienced a number of similar phenomena, such as communication with other-than-human beings, out-of-body experiences, and geometrically complex closed-eye visuals. DMT and the Soul of Prophecy complements Strassman's first book, but it also stands on its own and gives enough context of his DMT research to make sense of his arguments about prophecy in the Hebrew Bible. The new monograph aims to further interpret the data from Strassman's experiments in the 90s, by arguing that the notion of prophecy in the Hebrew Bible offers a compelling model for what happens in the DMT state. One might ask, then, if the Hebrew prophets were affected by DMT. Although it's not possible to know for sure, and Strassman doesn't claim that they were, he nonetheless draws significant parallels between DMT experiences and prophetic states in the Hebrew Bible. At the cross-section of biology, psychology, and religious studies, Strassman's monograph is sure to spark provocative conversations about the relationship between religion, drugs, and the politics of research. If God revealed the game plan to us we would only mess things up!
This is an extension of our first discussion about Spiritual Revelation.
God wants us to know him as he is. Though he is seemingly "hidden" he is ALSO "revealed". Please join me so we can discuss the spiritual definition of TRUE REVELATION http://spiritualityisrealit.tumblr.com/
