Reflections on the Elections   BACKGROUND: This message was drawn from a sermon delivered by Archbishop Foley Beach during a prior Presidential election season. While this sermon was delivered in the past, its thesis that “God is right in the middle of our elections” is based on Daniel's interpretation King Nebuchadnezzar's dream: “the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will and sets over it the lowliest of men”. America is once again in an election cycle which has only begun with the election of a President. MESSAGE SUMMARY: “Where is God in all of this”? We were so engaged in prayer leading up to the election that it's hard to believe that God was not involved in this election. God was and is in the middle of this election and our country's governance just as He was in the time of King Nebuchadnezzar's vision and Daniel's interpretation (Daniel 4:17 ESV). “Someone asked me: ‘How could God allow a pro-abortion president'?”. At this time, we cannot answer this question, but God can and does use anyone in His plan for Salvation that begins in Genesis and ends in Revelation. In Isaiah 55.9, God reminds us: “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”. Every person in leadership is flawed to some degree. “If He can use me as His minister of the Gospel, He can use anyone! King Cyrus was a great sinner and a bloody pagan, but God called him by name to be His servant. Look at Alexander the Great, another true pagan who was bloody, brutal, and bisexual; and yet, God used him to build a common language and roads, like the Via Morris highway which connected Europe to Africa and was located next to Capernaum where Jesus set up His base. Therefore, this road literally paved the way for the coming of the Messiah.” The election of Lincoln is another example God's sovereignty. He used Lincoln to hold the nation together in spite of Lincoln being hated on all sides. Because God is Sovereign, it is often said that God gives us the government we need or the government we deserve — it is too early to know which path God has now chosen for our governance. As we approach these 2024 elections, remember: “The Most High rules the kingdoms of men, and He gives it to whom He will.”  (Daniel 4: 17, 24-25, 32, 37) TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, help me to grab hold of you today. I need you. Set me free to begin reorienting my life around you, and you alone. Help me to pay attention to and honor how you have uniquely made me. Thank you for the gift of rest. In Jesus' name, amen.       Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 122). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. AWFTL Advent Devotional Schedule 12/01/23: In this first episode "Foreword", we begin with God's Creation of the World. However, sin comes into the world necessitating the need for "A Means of Grace and the Hope for Glory", the Christ. 12/3/23: In this episode, “Hope”, the Holy Spirit notifies the aging but unbelieving Priest, Zechariah, that his barren wife Elizabeth will give birth to John the Baptizer, who will prepare the way for God's Grace for our undeserved Salvation, through birth of His Son. 12/10/23: In this episode, “Peace”, the Virgin Mary is notified by an Angel that God, through the Holy Spirit, will bless her with the birth of The Christ, the promised Messiah; and He will be named Jesus. 12/17/23: In this episode “Joy”, Elizabeth is visited by her cousin, Mary as they share both the joy of their unanticipated pregnancies and the assume blessing of God's favor for them and the World, the Incarnate Jesus. 12/24/23: The episode, “Love”, depicts the struggles that Joseph is facing from both his love and duty to an, as yet, unmarried but pregnant Mary. Also, Joseph is coming to grips with burden and responsibility of his early-life fatherhood for Jesus, who is Father God, in a human presence, as God's Son. 12/25/23: The final episode brings it all together in Jesus' genealogy from Adam to The Christ – proving that Advent and Christmas are a great deal more than what the commercialization of Christmas often implies. We end our Advent journey with “The First Born”  - The Christ!

It's Thursday, April 20th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com). By Jonathan Clark 300 died in Sudan, Africa Last Saturday, fighting broke out in the African nation of Sudan between the country's official military and its paramilitary rival. The streets of Khartoum, the country's capital, are strewn with bodies. Nearly 300 people have died from the fighting.  Hopes for religious freedom came to Sudan after the overthrow of the brutal Islamic regime of Omar al-Bashir in 2019. A military coup two years later and the latest clashes have pushed back such hopes. As different military groups fight for control of Sudan, Christians face new threats. Fikiru Mehari with Open Doors said, “Christians, who are already in a difficult situation, will face the war with severity because they have no one around to support them.” Sudan is ranked 10th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. Anglican leaders consider their future About 1,300 Anglican leaders and lay people traveled to Kigali, Rwanda for the fourth Global Anglican Future Conference this week. The conference will be considering the future of the Anglican Communion. Anglican leaders from around the world are at odds with the Church of England and The Episcopal Church USA.  The two Anglican branches among others have come out in favor of sexually perverted lifestyles.  Archbishop Foley Beach  addressed the conference in Rwanda on Monday. He called on Anglicans in England and the U.S. to repent and, “Return to the teaching of the Word of God.” Christian mailman refused to work on Sundays The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments on Tuesday in a case involving religion in the workplace. Former mailman Gerald Groff is challenging the U.S. Postal Service for discriminating against his Christian practice of honoring the Lord's Day.  He deliberately started a career as a mailman because, at the time, there were no Sunday deliveries. However, that all changed when the Postal Service contracted with Amazon to provide deliveries on Sunday. For trying to live out his faith, Groff faced disciplinary action for years before quitting.  He hopes his case will send a message. He said, “No employee should be forced to make the same decision the Postal Service forced upon me: faith or job.” Exodus 20:8 says, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” Supreme Court to rule Friday on Abortion Kill Pill Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is holding out on a decision about the Abortion Kill Pill (mifepristone).  Yesterday, Justice Samuel Alito extended a temporary block on a lower-court ruling. A U.S. District Court in Texas had invalidated the F.D.A.'s approval of the Abortion Kill Pill as well as mail-delivery of the abortifacient. The move ignited a series of court rulings, bringing the issue before the Supreme Court. A decision from the high court is not expected until Friday. For now, the Abortion Kill Pill remains legal.  Greater number of Americans are Independents New data from Gallup shows a record 49% of U.S. adults say they are political Independents, up from 33% in 1990. The rest of the population evenly identifies as Republican (25%) or Democrat (also 25%). Jeff Jones with Gallup noted, “What is unusual is that as Gen X and millennials get older, they are staying independent rather than picking a party, as older generations tended to do.” Federal Reserve expects mild recession The Federal Reserve expects the U.S. economy to enter a recession this year. The projection comes from documents released last week. The Fed expects the recent series of bank failures to cause a “mild recession starting later this year, with a recovery over the subsequent two years.” 75% of Americans say faith is important And finally, a new poll from Rasmussen found that 75% of American adults say their faith is important to their everyday lives, up from 71% in 2018. Twenty-five percent of respondents identified as Evangelical Christian, 21% as Roman Catholic, 16% as Protestant, 3% as Jewish, 1% as Muslim, 17% as some other religion, and 12% as atheist.  Evangelicals were the most likely to say their faith was important to their daily lives. The religious group was also the most likely to say that religious institutions are watering down or abandoning their traditional beliefs.  In Revelation 3:3, Jesus said, “Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, April 20th in the year of our Lord 2023. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. MESSAGE SUMMARY:                                                                                                                   December 2022   Dear A Word From The Lord Ministry Friend, I am asking for your help on behalf of Archbishop Foley Beach and A Word From The Lord (AWFTL) global media ministry. We are facing an uncertain financial future as we cope with the current environment. Like most churches and ministries, the concerns and fears surrounding the increasing economic uncertainty have raised our concerns about sustaining consistent financial contributions. Attached to this email is a short video from Dr. Beach. Due to these uncertainties, our ministry is asking for your prayerful consideration of a twelve-month recurring monthly donation of any amount. The predictability of your recurring donation will provide the financial stability needed at this moment of decision. This Gospel ministry is supported by the prayers and contributions of our friends like you, and we do not receive financial support from churches and denominations. AWFTL is Dr. Foley Beach's personal volunteer media teaching ministry which has distributed Biblical teachings from the Lord's Word for more than eighteen years. AWFTL's ministry message is Gospel-focused and Biblical Christianity, not just an Anglican perspective. AWFTL is achieving its mission to share the unchanging Word of God with both believers and nonbelievers. Across all our channels (e.g., radio, podcasting, email, Internet), we now average more than 3 million contacts each month with His Word at a cost of less than $0.002 per contact.  Our One-Minute Message has been particularly effective in reaching the unchurched while supporting believers with daily spiritual encouragement. Please make your secure recurring monthly recurring donation, for one year, through our partner's, the National Christian Foundation (NCF), secure Website by clicking HERE – just follow NCF's instructions after clicking. Also, you can visit our Website at www.awordfromthelord.org for more information about our ministry and then contribute on the Website by clicking “DONATE”.  If you do not wish to contribute online through NCF, you may donate by check by mailing your donation to A Word From The Lord, P. O. Box 636 Monroe, GA. 30655. We are a 501 [c][3] charity for your tax purposes. In the love and service of Jesus,   The Rev. Bill Arnold Executive Director. A Word From The Lord, Inc.  info@awftl.org   Dear Friends, Please prayerfully consider our unusual request for a one-year monthly commitment through your recurring donation, which will help us determine and plan for AWFTL's future with some level of confidence in these uncertain times. The LORD is faithful. Faithfully, +Foley

Dear Friend in Christ, Greetings in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and only Savior! Each year at this time we ask folks to take a moment and consider supporting A Word from the Lord with a gift to help with our financial needs. Although A Word from the Lord is a volunteer organization, it costs money to purchase broadcast time, to pay for some of our internet platforms, and to produce our programs.  And this is only made possible by people like you who desire to partner with us to share God's Word with radio, various internet platforms, podcasts, and one-minute messages. This coming year we hope to reach into some places where we call the Gospel Gap -- places where the Church and Gospel ministries are not touching.  We have developed several plans to broadcast in strategic places in North American cities where the Word of God is not heard.  Would you consider helping us?  You can click HERE or go to www.AwordfromtheLord.org and click on donate.  Your donation is confidential and our platform is secure.  If you would like to make a one-time gift, or even better, sign up for monthly gifts, we can continue to teach and share the Word of God throughout the world.  You may also write a check and mail it to: A Word from the Lord, P.O. Box 636, Monroe, GA, 30655. Thank you for your consideration. In Christ, +foley

Claims today that the global leader of the Anglican Church is out of step with God. The Primates of the Global Anglican Fellowship (GAFCON), meeting in Kigali Rwanda, have said that Archbishop Justin Welby has,‘Departed from the authentic exercise of his office by normalising and praising those who have departed from biblical teaching and practice…and giving equal place to practices contrary to biblical norms, as Anglicans have received them.  We urge him to repent.' (https://bit.ly/3DmPVas)And the Archbishop of Canterbury's explanations are described as 'disingenuous if not duplicitous'. The Gafcon Primates statement comes on top of the statement from the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches, which if anything, is even stronger. The Global South Fellowship says,‘Archbishop Welby's first position is lamentable; his second is repugnant to our understanding of the authority and clarity of Holy Scripture. The notion of ‘pluriform' truth is contrary to the Anglican Ordinal which binds duly consecrated bishops to be responsible for the guarding, teaching and imparting of divine truth in Holy Scripture.' (https://bit.ly/3smoqas)Archbishop Welby's actions, which have provoked the criticisms, are his appointment of a new Dean of Canterbury (the lead minister of Canterbury Cathedral in the UK) of a man in a civil same sex partnership. The Global South statement says, ‘It feels as if the present Archbishop of Canterbury has shut the door of the [Canterbury] Cathedral to orthodox bishops, clergy and members of the [Anglican] Communion.'  (https://bit.ly/3smoqas)We are speaking today with: Archbishop Foley Beach, from North America, who is the chair of the GAFCON Movement, but who also is aligned with the Global South.Archbishop James Wong, Primate of Indian Ocean, who is one of the leading figures in the Global South, and who was also at the GAFCON Primates meeting. UK Bishop Andy Lines, who leads the Anglican Network in Europe, and who was also present at the GAFCON meeting.***As The Pastor's Heart grows in audience our opportunities and responsibility grow as well. On the heels of The Lambeth Conference, Bishop Wright has a conversation with the Archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America, Foley Beach. The episode lays bare the differences between The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church in North America in an honest dialogue of the major differences of the denominations. But in today's all-or-nothing world where differences usually result in anger, recrimination, and withdrawal, Beach and Wright show Christian maturity in discussing the ordination of women and our LGTQB+ siblings. The Most Reverend Dr. Foley Beach was elected Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) on June 22, 2014. A former Episcopal priest, Beach once was the youth minister at The Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta. After leaving the Episcopal Church, Beach planted and led Holy Cross Anglican Church in Loganville, Georgia. Bishop Wright asked Beach to be on this episode of For Faith to honor the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu's peace-making ministry.Register for Imagine Church | Be Not Afraid: www.imaginechurch.online

Preparing for Lent: The Journey – Day 2 of 3 INTRODUCTION -- Preparing for Lent: The Journey, Day-2 includes: Everyday Global Anglican interviews Archbishop Foley Beach, Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and Chairman of Gafcon, and Keith Getty, Irish musician and songwriter, as they discuss Lent Keith and Kristyn Getty, Irish writers and performers of many Christian faith-based songs (including Christ Our Hope in Life and Death, In Christ Alone, and By Faith), perform a new recording of their song, "My Worth." MESSAGE SUMMARY:  On Wednesday, March 2, many Anglicans, along with many other denominations and churches around the world, began their observance of the Christian season of Lent with their Ash Wednesday services. Beginning today and the two days following, A Word from the Lord is providing three videos, through Gafcon Global Anglicans, with the hope that they will help you to continue to prepare your hearts and minds as you walk with Jesus in your journey this Lenten season. Gafcon's videos have included people, songs, cultures, and images from around the World so that you can be encouraged and equipped to consider your own mortality within the context of God's Grace of Eternal Life given to us through Jesus' suffering and death on the cross and His Resurrection on Easter at the end of Lent. There is a broad range of practices that Anglicans and other denominations and churches follow during the Lenten season. In an age of increasing instant gratification, the practice of Lent, leading up to Easter, runs against the tide in many cultures. With these three-days of videos from Anglicans round the World, we see the Anglican diversity in the practice of Lent from many cultures, languages, and races. What is Lent about and what are some songs of worship which can, as Reverend Canon Wes Jagoe says, "...help us slow down and focus on our relationship with the Lord"? Also, Rev. Jodie McNeil of Australia, shares, "I've started to see that it is good to synchronize my calendar with Christian brothers and sisters from all tribes, tongues, and nations because everyone needs to choose a calendar to follow...but as we live as foreigners and exiles, it seems like a good thing for Christians to celebrate together the rhythm of our church calendar." Andrew Lumbuye of Uganda, discusses his Lenten perspective and how it provides him a context for selecting songs for Lent, “Lent is a period of soul searching, reconnecting of getting back to the Lord . . . the songs that I have chosen are those that help us to empty ourselves; that help us cry out ourselves to the Lord . . .” Archbishop Miguel Uchoa of Brazil discusses the Church's mission for lent within the Gospel of John, “Lent is the time of reflection and nothing better to reflect on than the mission of the Church . . . when they {the Apostles Andrew, John, and Peter} learn about Jesus and who Jesus was, they want to spend time with Him – learn from Him. That must be our objective.”   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, help me to grab hold of you today. 122). Archbishop Foley Beach 2021 Christmas Message (SPECIAL: 3-MINUTE VIDEO) MESSAGE SUMMARY: Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I pray that in this Advent and Christmas season you are resting in the hope, love, and joy of Jesus Christ. At this time in our world, the economy, national conflicts, travel plans, and Covid-19 and its variants all hold in common a simple reality and certainty, and that is of their uncertainty. We cannot be certain of where the global and local economy will be in the coming year, whether our travel plans will be unexpectedly changed, or what will happen with the morphing Covid outbreak. This can be very unsettling. Uncertainty can cause anxiety and stress: How will I provide for my family? Where will I even be next month? Will my classes be online or in person? What will my health be like? The uncertainty we are currently experiencing is not a new thing.  In fact, it is as old as the story of a young couple in a backwater province of the Roman Empire planning on getting married but being surprised with the news that they will bear a Savior named Jesus. Not only would they be forced to travel by the dictate of an emperor for the purposes of a census and taxation, but they would be tasked with the responsibility of taking care of the Messiah. It is amazing to think that God entrusted this young couple with a role in his plan of salvation in the midst of the swirling angst in Palestine. What has he entrusted to you? Our familiarity with the Christmas story shields us from the reality of the surprises and uncertainties that arose at every turn for Mary and Joseph: the uncertainty of carrying a child and finding housing in Bethlehem; the unsettling prophecy from Simeon declaring the baby Jesus is, “...appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel…” (Luke 2:34); the uncertainty of trusting the message to travel to Egypt; and the unsettling news of the slaughter of innocent babes in Bethlehem. When has following Jesus ever meant a security guarantee for the future apart from the assurance of salvation which is promised in Romans 8:38-39, “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord”? By faith, Mary and Joseph followed the Word of the Lord through the angels, and it is by faith that you and I walk forward in this age of uncertainty. We know that by God's goodwill we enter His rest with joy, loved and redeemed.  “Behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Matthew 2:10). This is indeed good news of a great joy and is a certain comfort as we in Gafcon and throughout the global Anglican Communion move forward, trusting God and His Word, and seeking to proclaim Christ faithfully to the nations. A Merry and Happy Christmas to you!! Archbishop Foley Beach Chairman of Gafcon's Primates Council   TODAY'S PRAYER: Father, I confess that when difficulties and trials come into my life, large or small, I mostly grumble and complain. I realize the trials James talks about are not necessarily “walls,” but they are difficult to bear, nonetheless. Fill me with such a vision of a transformed life, O God, that I might actually consider it “pure joy” when you bring trials my way. I believe, Lord. Help my unbelief. In Jesus' name, amen.     Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 94). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Hatred. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Love. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV):  Psalm 43:3; John 1:1-14; Luke 2:1-20. A Word From The Lord Ministry Continues to Serve the Lord by Providing Opportunities for Many People to Hear His Word MESSAGE SUMMARY: In today's video devotional, Archbishop Foley Beach our teacher and Chairman of the A Word From the Lord ministry, tells us that our “podcasting downloads” have now exceeded 250,000 since our podcasting started in 2018. Also, through all our platforms that communicate the Lord's Word (e.g., broadcasting, podcasting, email), we now provide more than 170,000 contacts with the Lord's Word each day. However, our Vision and Values are consistent over the eighteen years since the ministry's founding in 2003: We strive to be a part of fulfilling Jesus' “Great Commission” (Matthew 28:19): “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them . . .”; and we Follow Paul's vision in Romans 10:17 – “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”. We use media and technology (e.g., Radio, Internet, Apps, Social Media, Podcasting, TV), which God has given us, to provide A Word From The Lord to Believers (to strengthen their faith and discipleship) and to Non-Believers (to develop their faith). Our ministry message is Gospel-focused and Biblical Christianity, not just an Anglican perspective, and We pray that AWTL's message stirs our listeners' affection for Jesus and that it shapes and molds the listener to the image of the Son while opening their mind and heart to the Holy Spirit. Also, we hope our message will be supplemental and in no way replace the church that our listeners are plugged into or the pastor God has placed into their lives. A Word From The Lord (AWFTL) is driven by the Holy Spirit and God's will. We need your continuing prayers and financial support to provide increasing opportunities for people to have “contacts” with God's Word. We hope that you will continue to “be a part of fulfilling Jesus' ‘Great Commission'”. A Word From The Lord is a 501 [c][3] not-for-profit ministry; and you can contribute, directly, to AWFTL using the secure facilities of the National Christian Foundation (NCF) using the link below or through the DONATE button on our Website (www.awftl.org ).   TODAY'S PRAYER: This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently. And if I am to do nothing, help me to do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the spirit of Jesus. Amen.  TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I will proclaim Him. (Philippians 1:15f)). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. Please join A Word From The Lord as we follow Jesus’ Great Commission of “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations . . .” and Jesus’ instructions to His Disciples and to us at His Ascension: “. . . and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”. As Jesus told His Disciples, in Acts 1:8-9a: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up . . .”. Also, we are promised again  in Acts 2:21: "And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.". Nicaean Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.   We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.   We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead,     and the life of the world to come. Amen You can visit our Website at awftl.org or awordfromthelord.org, and we pray that you experience A Word From The Lord. NOTE: The first segment of included video is the Nicene Creed being recited by many members of the Gafcon Anglican family from around the world, beginning with Archbishop Foley Beach. Additionally, the video’s second segment is a gathering of Global Anglicans at the Jerusalem Temple Wall.   TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV):  Acts 1:8-9; Acts 2:17; Acts 2:21. MESSAGE SUMMARY: As Jesus commanded us in John 5:12: This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”. Also, in John 13:34-35, Jesus commanded us: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. Jesus’ “one another” is all inclusive and not just those that look like you and/or of your culture.   “.You see, we do not have just a ‘skin problem’, we have a ‘sin problem’ . . . It is not enough not to be a racist; we must not be blind to the sin of racism and ignore it in our midst . . . I find myself listening a lot these days. I find myself sad a lot. I find myself angry. I find myself yearning to see ‘all the sad things come untrue.’ And yet I know that none of this is a surprise to our Lord, and He can be trusted . . . ‘Doing nothing is no longer an option for me.’ , , , You can start right where you are. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”. Jesus’ “one another” is all inclusive and not just those that look like you and/or of your culture.   “The past few months have not only been pandemic, but pandemonium. We have watched evil displayed by fellow image bearers and some police officers in recent weeks. We have heard cries of grief in our own neighborhoods and from all around the world. And the cries have gotten louder. We watched as peaceful protests were hijacked by chaos and violence, destroying countless businesses and property, and injuring not only bystanders . . . In the US we have struggled to overcome the effects of the systemic racism from our founding days, and we now know that changing laws would never be enough. Victories for civil rights, and for the desegregation of our schools would never be enough. For you see we do not have just a ‘skin problem’, we have a ‘sin problem’.”   “As Dr. Tony Evans of Oak Cliff Bible Church in Dallas Texas recently said, ‘The evangelical church needs to speak up where it has been silent on injustice and racism. The biggest problem in the culture today is the failure of the church. We would not even have a racial crisis in America if the church had not consistently failed to deal with racism as the severe sin it is. But because the church has historically ignored and downplayed it, the issue still exists. Where the church is called to set an example, we have cowered.’. . . The Bible makes it unequivocally clear that we are all made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27): ‘So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.’. We each bear the image of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Any hostility between brothers and sisters in Christ, especially because of skin color, is an affront to God and damages our souls and the ‘blessed community’ so many of us seek . . .”   “We need God to rend our hearts as a Church. We need the people of Anglican Church in North America to display the kind of tenderness and compassion that is needed in this time. We need listening ears. We need thoughtfulness. We need preaching. We need humility. We need grace. We need to aim for the Anglican Church in North America to look like ‘thy kingdom on earth as it is in heaven’. . .”   “We need to search our hearts and make sure there is no offensive way in us as the Anglican Church in North America. All the words about spiritual renewal and revival in the Bible are not directed to the non-Christian culture, but to the people of God. We need to look within ourselves. And it starts with me. What the Lord has shown me about me in the past few weeks is this – I have failed to understand the incredible burden and pain that many of my black brothers and sisters live with every day. I have not wept with those who weep. And I have not understood the depth of the effect of racism and injustice. I have not understood the burden of living under racist acts, slurs, and systems they must endure every day, nor have I understood the fear with which they constantly live for themselves and their families. It is not enough not to be a racist; we must not be blind to the sin of racism and ignore it in our midst. . . I find myself listening a lot these days. I find myself sad a lot. I find myself angry. I find myself yearning to see ‘all the sad things come untrue.’ And yet I know that none of this is a surprise to our Lord, and He can be trusted . . . ‘Doing nothing is no longer an option for me.’.”   “Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I am in no way endorsing those movements that are promoting anarchy, destruction of the family, and the dismantling of our government. Our form of government has brought more freedom, justice, and liberation than ANY other kind of government . . . It will not be through political parties, rallies, slogans, or marches that our attitudes and practices are changed, that the souls of our nations are converted. They may have some impact, but the deep change we all need will be through revival that comes from repentance – turning away from our sin and toward God and his righteous ways in Jesus Christ.”   “You can start right where you are. In your own heart, in your own relationship with God - first. Then, in your own community -- One person at a time. One relationship at a time. One act a time. Reaching out and building a relationship with someone different than you are. One drop of rain may not seem like much, but with other drops of rain it can create a healing flood. . . “   “So, let us pray for one another about these things, and let us get out and make a difference in our local communities. LONGER DEVOTIONAL VIDEO MESSAGE SUMMARY: This video Address, by Archbishop Foley Beach, provides both a context and call to action for Clergy and lay persons to become a part of the solution for “race issues” facing America – today and into the future. I have not understood the burden of living under racist acts, slurs, and systems they have to endure every day, nor have I understood the fear with which they constantly live for themselves and their families. It is not enough not to be a racist; we must not be blind to the sin of racism and ignore it in our midst. . . I find myself listening a lot these days. I find myself sad a lot. I find myself angry. I find myself yearning to see ‘all the sad things come untrue.’ And yet I know that none of this is a surprise to our Lord, and He can be trusted . . . ‘Doing nothing is no longer an option for me.’. Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I am in no way endorsing those movements that are promoting anarchy, destruction of the family, and the dismantling of our government. Our form of government has brought more freedom, justice, and liberation than ANY other kind of government . . . It will not be through political parties, rallies, slogans, or marches that our attitudes and practices are changed, that the souls of our nations are converted. They may have some impact, but the deep change we all need will be through revival that comes from repentance – turning away from our sin and toward God and his righteous ways in Jesus Christ. You can start right where you are. In your own heart, in your own relationship with God - first. Then, in your own community -- One person at a time. One relationship at a time. One act a time. Reaching out and building a relationship with someone different than you are. One drop of rain may not seem like much, but with other drops of rain it can create a healing flood. . . So, let us pray for one another about these things, and let us get out and make a difference in our local communities. God has placed you and me here for such a time as this . . . The Lord bless you and keep you, make his face shine upon you and grant you his peace. In the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Amen.”   TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Loneliness. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Presence. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). MESSAGE SUMMARY: Today's lesson is an Address by Archbishop Foley Beach, Primate of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and Chairman of the global Anglican Communion's GAFCON, to the ACNA's Provincial Council. In his address, Dr. Beach provides both a context and call to action for Clergy and lay persons to become a part of the solution for the “race issues” facing us today:   “The past few months have not only been pandemic, but pandemonium. We have watched evil displayed by fellow image bearers and some police officers in recent weeks. We have heard cries of grief in our own neighborhoods and from all around the world. And the cries have gotten louder. We watched as peaceful protests were hijacked by chaos and violence, destroying countless businesses and property, and injuring not only bystanders . . . In the US we have struggled to overcome the effects of the systemic racism from our founding days, and we know that changing laws would never be enough. Victories for civil rights, and for the desegregation of our schools would never be enough. For you see we don't have just a skin problem, we have a sin problem. As Dr. Tony Evans of Oak Cliff Bible Church in Dallas Texas recently said, ‘The evangelical church needs to speak up where it has been silent on injustice and racism. The biggest problem in the culture today is the failure of the church. We wouldn't even have a racial crisis in America if the church had not consistently failed to deal with racism as the severe sin it is. But because the church has historically ignored and downplayed it, the issue still exists. Where the church is called to set an example, we have cowered.'. . . The Bible makes it unequivocally clear that we are all made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27): ‘So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.'. We each bear the image of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Any hostility between brothers and sisters in Christ, especially because of skin color, is an affront to God and damages our souls and the ‘blessed community' so many of us seek . . . We need God to rend our hearts as a Church. We need the people of Anglican Church in North America to display the kind of tenderness and compassion that is needed in this time. We need listening ears. We need thoughtfulness. We need preaching. We need humility. We need grace. We need to aim for the Anglican Church in North America to look like ‘thy kingdom on earth as it is in heaven'. . . We need to search our hearts and make sure there is no offensive way in us as the Anglican Church in North America. SPECIAL DEVOTIONAL VIDEO MESSAGE SUMMARY: On this Pentecost, the included video is the Nicene Creed recited by many members of the Gafcon Anglican family from around the world, beginning with Archbishop Foley Beach. Many of our church buildings are closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so we pray that this devotional is a helpful encouragement to you in these difficult times. We may be celebrating Pentecost in our homes and away from our church families, but despite the shifting sands of our world, we know that our faith in the Lord Jesus is secure. As we are told in Acts 2:21: "And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.". Yours in Christ, The Most Rev. Dr. Foley Beach  Chairman, Gafcon Primates Council   TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV):  Acts 2:17; Acts 2:21. ARCHBISHOP BEACH’S “CHAIRMAN’S LETTER” TO ANGLICANS GLOBALLY: Beloved in Christ Jesus: Greetings in the name of our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! At Pentecost we rejoice that we are indeed ‘not left as orphans’ (John 14:18), but through the crucified, risen, and ascended Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit is poured out upon us in fulfilment of God’s promise. It is by the Spirit of Jesus in our hearts that we are able to cry ‘Abba! Father! (Galatians 4:6) and even though many of us may not be able to able to sing the praises of God together in this time of pandemic, may our hearts nonetheless overflow with praise and adoration to God who so wonderfully restores us through his Son in the power of the Holy Spirit! But this work of the Spirit in our hearts is part of a much bigger picture. When my brother Primate Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit addressed the Kenyan nation on 25th May he began with a reference to Romans 8:22,23:  “For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only this, but also, we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.” Much of his pastoral address is very practical, rightly directed to the pressing needs of those who are suffering, as are many in East Africa, not only from the impact of coronavirus, but also from locust plagues and flooding. But the biblical context he chose helpfully reminds us of the bigger picture of Pentecost.  Authentic life in the Spirit involves groaning as well as rejoicing. Disease is a sharp reminder of the pain, frustration and decay built into this present world order, but these things should not lead us to despair because the groaning of our hearts resonates with the whole creation in a deep sigh of longing that comes from the Spirit himself. And just as Jesus is the first fruits of the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:23), likewise the first fruits of the Spirit anticipate all that is to come. So, we can face the brokenness of the present, but with hope. We can see that hope in action through the Anglican Church of Kenya’s B2B (Balcony to Balcony) service initiative where people have joined in worship from their balconies while churches around the world are reaching beyond their regular congregations with online services, even pressing forward with planting new churches as the Anglican Mission in England is doing.  So, we see that biblical ‘waiting’ is not merely passive but leads to action because of what we hope for. This includes a special care for the vulnerable. In my previous letter I mentioned the work being done in North America and around the world to meet the needs of those who have lost livelihoods. But there are other challenges. For example, my brother Primate Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba has strongly warned against an increase in violence, especially towards women, during the coronavirus lockdown. Underlying all the anxiety about the current pandemic is of course the fear of death. Some have been affluent enough to sustain lifestyles which seek to deny this reality, but the virulence of this disease has broken that illusion allowing the Christian hope, imprinted in our hearts by the presence of the Holy Spirit, to shine forth with new clarity. As Archbishop Emmanuel Egbunu, Bishop of Lokoja in Nigeria, has so rightly said “If death meets you now, your inheritance is already waiting for your arrival.” What better time than Pentecost to ask the Father to fill you afresh and anew with the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13). The promise of Pentecost is that ‘you shall receive power’ (Acts 1:8) to be Christ’s witnesses. As all of us witness to the saving truth of the gospel in this broken and suffering world, may Christ be enthroned anew in our hearts and lives, and may we be daily sustained by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit until that day when we see him face to face!
