The group stage match between Nepal and Sri Lanka at Florida's Central Broward Regional Park was called off due to rain on Wednesday, 12 June. Happy World Bicycle Day! Earlier this year, I spent a week chasing - and sharing the stories of the cyclists competing in the Race Around Rwanda, a 1000km self-supported bikepacking race with 18,000m of elevation and 40% offroad. I detailed the stories from the road of beautiful and brutal race this year in episodes 6 through 10 as well as episode 14 so go back and check those episodes out. This is a story from Rwanda but it's not just about the race. This is about the impact of one woman, Violette Neza, a champion Rwandan ultra-cyclist and coach and I couldn't think of anyone more worthy to feature - and spotlight on World Bicycle Day. In this episode, you'll hear Violette's own story of learning to ride a bike. What cycling means to her and why she wants to share the joy of cycling with other girls and young women, who otherwise may never have the opportunity to experience what we all do regularly, how wonderful and freeing it is to ride your bike. “Two Bessies on Two Wheels" is a free, online package of African American history curriculum designed for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade. Using lesson plans and other resources, they're invited to learn about two Black women who were pioneers in motorcycle and airplane travel.

We are never too old to learn more about God, and never so mature in faith that we cannot grow. In Luke 1, we see how Zechariah, an older priest, emerged from nine months of silence even more deeply devoted to God. When Zechariah’s wife Elizabeth gave birth, the entire community rejoiced, recognizing this child as a miraculous gift of God. On the eighth day, the family brought him to be circumcised. Tradition called for a family name to be given, maybe “Zechariah,” based on the miraculous events of the birth. However, Elizabeth proclaimed him “John” (v. 60). Those gathered expressed their collective shock. No one in the family was named John. But this name was an act of obedience to which both Elizabeth and Zechariah were committed. They sought verification from Zechariah, using a form of sign language. Apparently, in addition to being mute, Zechariah was also deaf. He further surprised the people with his written message: “His name is John” (v. 63). Then came miracle part two: Zechariah’s tongue was set loose, and he praised God. Word of John’s extraordinary birth spread quickly throughout the entire region (v. 65). Even as a newborn babe, John was drawing people’s attention toward the new work of God. Zechariah’s hymn (Benedictus) is the second psalm recorded in the book of Luke (vv. 68–79). It flowed from an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. While Mary’s song focused on God’s work in the past, Zechariah’s looked ahead at the ministry of both John and Jesus and what God’s salvation would accomplish. The God of Israel had remembered His people. He would rescue them from their enemies and redeem them from their sin. He finished his song with the promise of peace. >> Luke records the beautiful words of praise from both Mary and Zechariah. Today, offer your own expression of praise for the salvation you have been given through the work of God’s Son.

buried deep inside your heart is this very kind, gentle, loving, innocent person who just loves to give away who they really are. Today, I want you to look around you and notice who you see. Look at them and give them some of your joy. Look at them directly in the eyes. Acknowledge that you see them. Have a brief conversation say hello. And make sure that you share your joy because when you share your joy, they will share their joy back with you. When you exchange smiles with someone the energy in that smile is absolutely wonderful. "Christmas: God Concealed & God Revealed"

Galatians 4:4-7 says But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God's own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.

When the shepherds received good news of great joy, their immediate response was to share that with others. The shepherds are the pattern for what we need to do.

"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” " Luke 2: 8-12 NIV

I found out I was recently accepted into the Kaiser Permanente Spine Fellowship program for the upcomming year. World class opportunity here I come.

We are so quick to judge and pass on the yuck and muck in life. How different would your day be if you share the joy? The joy of goodness God has bestowed on your life. Let's get out and share the joy of knitting by taking every opportunity to Knit In Public! Every time you pull out your needles you invite people to ask questions and maybe be inspired to give knitting a try themselves. And, you're bound to finish more projects by taking advantage of all that extra time!
