Artificially Intelligent girlfriends. Sarah Watt, Jeremy Downing and William Chen discuss Companion (2025) and Her (2013). Both films have director-writers in Drew Hancock and Spike Jonze, respectively. We start by discussing the vision of the future Her presents and how much has come to pass - 'prescient' is the word we all describe the film as. We celebrate a number of elements of Her that we enjoy. The conversation then moves to a discussion of Companion and how we found the film not as complex as Her. We discuss the films in connection to Lost In Translation (2003), Barbarian (2022), Ex Machina (2014), M3GAN (2022), Hereditary (2018), Midsommar (2019), Beau Is Afraid (2023), Heretic (2024), The White Lotus (2021-) and Yellowjackets (2021-). We praise the performances of Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid. We end with a discussion about real-world AI today and how the films connect to matters at hand.

In this third and final installment of our AI mini-series, we delve deep into the profound impact of human ideas that can be deemed "artificially intelligent." We've explored the consequences of denying our creation in the image of God, resulting in a world where human life lacks value and meaning. Last week, we discussed the flawed priorities of a man-centric existence versus a life aligned with the purpose of glorifying our Creator. Today, we confront the fallacy of believing that the human-made system can redeem mankind. History has shown us that political, educational, philosophical, and social systems cannot solve humanity's deepest problems. The only genuine hope for redemption lies in the plan of the Creator, embodied in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Unlike man-made systems, Christianity doesn't impose from the outside but compels transformation from within, driven by the limitless love of the Creator. It transcends the limitations of human minds and sets us free from the fears that divide us. Ultimately, the love of God, as revealed in the work of Christ, is the only hope for redemption in a world desperately seeking meaning and purpose. Don't be misled by human philosophies; find your redemption in Jesus Christ, where true wisdom and knowledge reside.

In our ongoing series on AI, Artificially Intelligent 2, we delve deeper into the concept of AI, but not the artificial intelligence that makes headlines. Instead, we explore a more pervasive and ancient threat to humanity—artificial intelligence within the philosophies and ideologies of man. Drawing inspiration from Proverbs 14:12, which warns that there is a way that seems right to man but leads to destruction, we unravel the implications of living in a world devoid of God's wisdom. Last week, we examined the consequences of a godless worldview that diminishes the value of life and meaning. Today, we confront the notion that morality can exist without God, emphasizing the absence of objective moral standards and the dangerous path of moral relativism. We find that Christian morality, rooted in the nature of God, brings beauty and purpose to life, exemplified by Jesus Christ. Join us as we explore how embracing Jesus as Savior and Lord leads to a morality that reflects our Creator's design and brings hope to humanity.

In this Best of Panic re-run from November 22', Jim O'Shaughnessy came back for a record fourth appearance.  The previous time he was on, we talked about the real panic; I'd come back from vacation fired out of a cannon – only wanting to talk to my close friends or pimp some of our companies. But this time around I had a lot to talk to Jim about. He was guest number one on the show and since then the Fed had hiked another 75 basis points, Meta imploded (and has since turned around), and we were in the first innings of a new owner at Twitter. It's fun to jump in a time capsule and explore how we were thinking about things at the time. The title is kinda clickbait as there isn't really anything called artificial intelligence for real. There are machine learning programs capable of writing malware based on the criteria given to it. The past and current talking points is that as the Mac gets more popular there will be more malware directed toward it. Been hearing this for years and the M-series Macs have grown the Mac market to the point where it is a more attractive target, but has there been more actual infections? One very telling point is that most articles saying the Mac get's viruses and malware seems to come from companies selling anti-virus software.

The Gorillamen asked ChatGPT to write the intro to this episode about artificial intelligence... "Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the field of computer science and engineering that deals with creating intelligent machines that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and language translation. AI involves the development of algorithms and computer programs that can learn from data and experiences, and adapt and improve their performance over time. AI techniques include machine learning, natural language processing, deep learning, computer vision, and robotics, among others. AI has the potential to revolutionize many areas of our lives, including healthcare, education, transportation, and entertainment, among others. However, as with any technology, AI also raises ethical and societal concerns, such as job displacement, bias, privacy, and safety." To find out where we stand, give this episode a listen! What is your first memory of artificial intelligence? Have you used any AI technology? Do you have any qualms or reservations about AI technology? If so, what? What's your opinion on AI programs that generate fiction and art? Would you ever appreciate AI art (visual art, books, movies, or other things) in the same way you appreciate what humans make? What's the coolest use for AI technology you've heard about? Do you think people are overhyping AI technology or being overly critical of it? In what ways do you think AI will change the way we live? Do you trust AI technology? How long do you think it will be before we see AI replacing white-collar workers? If you could create an AI, what would it be and why? What is the future of artificial intelligence?
