Rough afternoon at The Bridge, but a point gained. We discuss:
Rog and Rory are back to break down all of this week's Premier League action, including a wild 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge that was more boxing match than football game. Are Chelsea the biggest threat to stop Arsenal's title charge? And is it a positive or a negative that Mikel Arteta's men walked away with a point against 10-man Chelsea? Plus, Liverpool got a much-needed victory over West Ham United...but with one of their biggest stars on the bench. Rog and Rory discuss Arne Slot's decision to drop Mo Salah, and what it could mean for both Salah and Liverpool for the remainder of the season.Watch our full interview with Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyhjABSfqSQCheck out all of our Cyber Monday deals at the Men in Blazers shop: https://shop.meninblazers.com/See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In this episode we look back 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. We begin with the team selection and the unexpected absence of William Saliba from the heart of the defence. How did that impact Arsenal, and did it mean the home side amped up what was already going to be an aggressive approach to the game? We assess the performances of both sides when it was 11 v 11, and then the horrendous challenge by Caicedo which saw him sent off which should have tilted the game firmly in our favour. It didn't quite play out like that as we fell behind before Mikel Merino's equaliser got us back level. The manager made changes, none of which really had much of an impact, and we try to analyse why the Gunners couldn't make the most of the man advantage, as well as what this point means in the title race. Then there are listener questions about London derbies, Ben White's lack of playing time, the potential changes for Wednesday's game against Brentford and lots more.EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal ➼ https://nordvpn.com/arseblog Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee!Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. There's a lot to get through today, but Musa and Ryan begin with shouting out Flamengo's Copa Libertadores win before moving on to the Premier League. They discuss the scrappy 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Arsenal (06:52), which probably worked out as a good point for both sides in the end, plus wins for Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and all the rest of the Premier League games (18:50). On MNC this week Mark Chapman, Andros Townsend, Chris Sutton and Rory Smith get into the one all draw between Chelsea and Arsenal and pose the question if discipline is an issue with Enzo Maresca's side? And look into their mentality after playing with ten men. They hear from Tottenham fan Jack Hussey after Thomas Frank said the supporters who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in the match against Fulham "can't be true Tottenham fans".Attention turns to Brighton as they ended the week fifth in the Premier League table – but fans are still divided over manager Fabian Hurzeler, as fan Alice Botting explains to the guys. Suj and James discuss another eventful weekend in the Premier League, where there was largely success for Free Hitters (including Suj) but disappointment for Erling Haaland Triple Captainers, and James' Wildcard also went okay. But what's perhaps more important is what's next and a big theme around Suj and James' discussion is who might get rotated during a midweek where the spacing of games is particularly bad for Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. The two London sides drew in Sunday's big game whilst Liverpool finally won and kept a clean sheet with Alexadner Isak on the scoresheet, but Mo Salah was an unused substitute. A rest presumably...? There's reflection on the Villa, Brentford and Manchester City assets that largely delivered well for Free Hitters, Newcastle won away with Malick Thiaw - 3rd on James' bench - scoring twice, and Newcastle assets now greatly appeal, as might Manchester United assets after their victory at Crystal Palace. But it was another miserable home day for James' Tottenham. Chelsea held Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in one of the best games of the season on Sunday to prevent the Gunners extending their lead at the top of the Premier League. Moises Caicedo seen red for a lunge at Mikel Merino but Chelsea still impressed, taking the lead through Trevoh Chalobah before Merino had the last laugh, heading the equaliser to earn Mikel Arteta's men a point. Across London, things are looking negative for Thomas Frank as he wrestles with the Tottenham Hotspur faithful, after another home defeat. This time Fulham took full advantage of a slow start and a Guglielmo Vicario howler to take the points, leading to audible boos which Frank took umbrage with at full-time. On this episode, Harry Symeou reflects on Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal in the Premier League. We discuss all the key incidents and highlights, why we struggled to impose ourselves against Enzo Maresca's side and cover all the major talking points from an interesting game at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal went to Stamford Bridge without both first choice centre backs and took a point. Chelsea played the league leaders for sixty minutes with ten men and without their best player and took a point. Who will be happier?Liverpool finally won again and dropped Mo Salah in the process. Is this straight forward squad rotation or the beginning of a transition which doesn't include the club legend? It's happy times in the Northeast at the moment as Newcastle win away for the first time in over two hundred days and Sunderland come from behind to show their European credentials. And finally, it is tough times for Thomas Frank at the Tottenham Stadium. Was he right to criticise fans who booed their goalkeeper? Gregor Robertson is joined by Tom Allnutt, Martin Hardy and Alyson Rudd. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

John Obi Mikel and Chris McHardy are back in the hotseats as they pour over Chelsea's 1-1 draw with league leaders Arsenal. Did Moises Caicedo deserve his red card? And what did we learn about Chelsea as again, in the big games, they come to the fore. Obi has words of praise for an embattled star AND one of Enzo Maresca's trusted lieutenants, while he again questions whether Arsenal have what it takes to finally rid themselves of the “bottlers” tag. There's also war stories from Obi's career during UK winters, with the snood - a favourite among many footballers - coming under attack. Plus a former Blues defender is hailed after guiding Flamengo to Copa Libertadores success in South America. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Arsenal leave Stamford Bridge with just one Premier League point after a chaotic afternoon defined by early bookings, a makeshift back line, and a referee who lost control long before Caicedo finally saw red. We break down the six cautions, the way Zubimendi's early yellow changed our midfield, the impact of Odegaard's introduction, and Merino's equaliser that shifted the momentum — plus the late chance for Gyökeres and Timber that could have won it.Despite the frustration, it still caps off a huge week for Arsenal: the derby win, the Bayern performance, and now a hard-earned point with Saliba, Gabriel and Trossard unavailable. In Part Two, we roll through a midweek Who Am I?, a full WATG recap, VARse (including the Alvarez penalty rule?), and a look ahead to Wednesday night's match against Brentford — a must-win before the trip to Villa Park.Settle in for a grounded, honest review of a fiery London afternoon and what it means for the week ahead.Chapters:(00:00) – Arteta's Non-Negotiables Intro(00:58) – Battle at the Bridge: Setting the Scene(01:49) – Lineup Changes & Saliba's Late Withdrawal(03:11) – Chelsea's Fast Start and Cucurella's Free Hits(04:48) – Six Arsenal Bookings and a Referee Out of Control(07:10) – Caicedo's Red Card and the Play-Acting Debate(08:59) – Chelsea's Tactics: Diving, Disruption, and Referee's Impact(11:58) – Arsenal's First-Half Chances & Sanchez's Spills(13:01) – Conceding Early in the Second Half(14:58) – Subs: Odegaard's Impact & Madueke's Struggles / Left-Side Chemistry Issue(19:00) – Merino's Equaliser: Saka's Brilliance & Odegaard's Spark(20:30) – Arteta's Sub Decisions: What Worked & What Didn't(23:20) – Final Chances: Gyökeres Collides with Sanchez & Timber's Header(24:22) – Was This Still a Good Week for Arsenal?(27:48) – By the Numbers & Big-Picture Reflection on the Chelsea Draw(29:08) – PT.2 Who Am I? After Manchester United became the first team in 8 months to beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, Rio is joined by Ste Howson and Joel Beya to analyse that victory along with Arsenal's draw at 10-man Chelsea. There's detailed analysis on the personnel utilised in the wing-back roles after Ruben Amorim admitted that two of those players are currently playing “far from their best”.After Bruno Fernandes overtook Paul Scholes on the list of record Premier League assists, Rio admits that nobody could be expected to replace the output of the captain - even when he's playing in a deeper role.Rio also compares the challenge for Joshua Zirkzee to the one that former team mate Diego Forlan faced and questioned whether the Dutchman has the self-belief to command a regular starting spot.Zirkzee may be given more opportunities during AFCON where Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbuemo will miss up to seven league matches during the most congested part of the season - something that worries Ste and Rio. They believe the depth of Amorim's squad is not sufficient without further reinforcements.Joel is happy with Arsenal's point at Stamford Bridge and Rio compares the mentality of the Arsenal players to that of his title-winning squads in terms of playing rivals away from home. Did Chelsea make a statement with their 1-1 draw against Arsenal? Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Jacqui Oatley, Miguel Delaney and Carl Anka to reflect on the weekend's sporting action. We begin with Man City's win over Leeds. Pep's side left it late with a last-minute Foden winner, but are they truly convincing? Carl finds their style this season fun to watch, yet a bit too chaotic to win the title.Next, we turn to Spurs' defeat to Fulham — their third loss of the week — and the boos told the story, as fans watched a side that has won only once at home all season. We then look at Liverpool, who have lost nine of their last twelve, and ask how realistic it is that the club makes a change with Arne Slot?Next, we move to The Ashes. With the second Test starting on Thursday, we speak to Adam Collins about how the Australian press views England's inconsistency — and what they must do to avoid falling 2–0 behind. Finally, we turn to the Premier League title race with Chelsea vs Arsenal. Miguel is impressed by how suffocating and controlling Arsenal have been in the second halves of games. But while Chelsea aren't as polished as Arteta's side, can they genuinely challenge for the title? Carl believes it's Arsenal's time.Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. Freedom's Forge: FDR, WWII Mobilization, and Bill Knudsen — Arthur Herman — Herman discusses his book Freedom's Forge, detailing the extraordinary challenge FDR confronted in May 1940 to prepare America for modern industrial warfare. The preeminent industrialist summoned for this task was Bill Knudsen, CEO of General Motors. Knudsen, a Danish immigrant and former Ford executive, possessed unparalleled expertise in flexible mass production—the capacity to modify production line processes continuously while maintaining output. Knudsen applied these revolutionary manufacturing techniques to transform the American automobile industry into an "Arsenal of Democracy," producing critical war materiel including military trucks and armored tanks. 1953
SHOW 11-28-25 CBS EYE ON THE WORLD WITH JOHN BATCHELOR 1963 The Genius of Early Photography: Nadar, Daguerre, and Dangerous Chemistry — Anika Burgess — Burgess details the risky and adventurous origins of photography as a practical medium. She examines Nadar, a visionary figure who deployed a giant balloon named Léon to fund experiments in heavier-than-air flight, having previously conducted innovative photographic expeditions into Paris's catacombs. Burgess also recounts Daguerre's 1839 presentation of the daguerreotype—a remarkably realistic, singular image created using hazardous chemicals including iodine and mercury, which posed significant occupational and health risks to early practitioners. Early Photography's Scientific Reach: Lunar and Underwater Photography — Anika Burgess — Burgessexplores early photography's critical scientific applications, noting that François Arago predicted the daguerreotype would enable detailed mapping of the lunar surface. Early astrophotographers encountered formidable technical challenges involving distance calculations, celestial motion, and insufficient ambient light. James Nasmyth controversially photographed plaster casts and molds of the lunar surface, which contemporary observers praised as scientifically truthful. Burgess also highlights Louis Boutan, who persistently developed practical underwater photography using pressurized hard-hat diving equipment, establishing a new scientific capability. Photography and Social Justice: Riis, Watkins, and the Question of Truth — Anika Burgess — Burgessdemonstrates how photography became a transformative tool for social advocacy and reform. Jacob Riis, a newspaper journalist documenting Manhattan's tenement poverty, employed flash powder ignited in cast-iron frying pans to photograph the grim, overcrowded interior conditions of slums for his landmark book How the Other Half Lives, frequently without obtaining subject consent. Burgess also discusses Carleton Watkins, who transported over 2,000 pounds of large-format photographic equipment to Yosemite Valley, producing images that proved instrumental in securing federal preservation and protection of the landscape. From X-Rays to Motion Pictures: Expanding the Photographic Medium — Anika Burgess — Burgess traces the expansion of photographic technology beyond conventional image capture. She examines Alice Austin'sintimate and playful photographs documenting her social circle with candid authenticity. The discovery of X-raysby Wilhelm Röntgen was rapidly branded as "the new photography" or "shadow photography," adopted swiftly for both entertainment and medical diagnostic applications despite practitioners possessing no understanding of severe radiation hazards. Burgess concludes with Paul Martin's candid street photography using concealed cameras hidden within top hats and Eadweard Muybridge's sequential motion studies, which directly enabled the invention of motion pictures. Angelica Schuyler: Albany, Elopement, and the Start of the Revolution — Molly Beer — Beer discusses her book Angelica, focusing on Angelica Schuyler Church, daughter of General Philip Schuyler. Her mother, Katherine, oversaw construction of their Albany residence, The Pastures, a substantial estate reflecting family prominence. Angelica received a rigorous education consistent with Dutch cultural traditions emphasizing women's financial and business literacy for family management. In 1777, during Burgoyne's invasion of New York, Angelica profoundly disappointed her mother by eloping with John Carter, an Englishman she found intellectually engaging and cosmopolitan. Angelica and the Founders: The Revolution and the Hamilton Connection — Molly Beer — Beer examines Angelica's pivotal role during the American Revolution, including her service alongside Rochambeau's army, traveling to Yorktown shortly after delivering her third child. Her sister Elizabeth ("Betsy") married Alexander Hamilton, who deliberately married into the prominent Schuyler family to elevate his social standing and political prospects. Following the war, Angelica's eldest son, Philip, founded the town of Angelica in western New York, the community where Beer herself was subsequently raised. Angelica in Europe: John Church, London Society, and Diplomacy — Molly Beer — Following ratification of the peace treaty, Angelica and her husband sailed to Paris to collect outstanding payments owed by the Frenchgovernment. John Carter leveraged the wartime amnesty to settle accumulated debts, reconcile with his estranged family, and legally adopt the name John Barker Church. Angelica relocated to London's elegant Mayfairneighborhood, where she established herself as a prominent American patriot. She strategically positioned herself at the intersection of cultural and diplomatic negotiations, entertaining influential figures including Lafayette and the Adamses, while exerting subtle influence over American diplomatic representatives toward negotiated peace. Angelica's Later Life: Return, Tragedy, and Founding Angelica, NY — Molly Beer — Angelica visited the United States for President Washington's 1789 inauguration but quickly returned to London, disappointed that the nascent republic fell short o Woke Capitalism: Origins, ESG, DEI, and the Power of BlackRock — Charles Gasparino — Gasparinotraces the origins of "woke capitalism," detailing how corporate America shareholder returns toward stakeholder capitalism models. L The Flashpoints of Woke Capitalism: Occupy Wall Street and the SEC — Charles Gasparino — Gasparinoidentifies the 2008 financial crisis and the ensuing progressive populist backlash, including the Occupy Wall Streetencampment at Zuccotti Park, as pivotal flashpoints accelerating corporate woke adoption.... Disney and ESPN: Running a Blue Company in a Red State — Charles Gasparino — Gasparino analyzes the radicalization of the Walt Disney Company, noting that CEO Bob Iger brought progressive cultural affinities while the company.... Go Woke, Go Broke: The Financial Backlash and Corporate Retreat — Charles Gasparino — Gasparinoreports that woke capitalism is experiencing significant financial retrenchment as corporations suffer bottom-line consequences... Henry Kaiser: The Builder of Liberty Ships — Arthur Herman — Herman profiles Henry Kaiser, the second transformative figure in Freedom's Forge. Kaiser, a road construction entrepreneur who had previously coordinated monumental infrastructure projects including the Boulder Dam, demonstrated relentless commitment to ambitious thinking and delivery ahead of schedule and under budget constraints. In late 1940, Kaiser persuaded both Britishand American governments to contract him to construct "throwaway freighters"—Liberty ships—despite possessing no prior shipbuilding experience. Between 1941 and 1945, Kaiser successfully built 2,710 Liberty ships, fundamentally enabling Allied logistics and supply operations. The B-29 Superfortress and the Battle of Omaha — Arthur Herman — Herman recounts the genesis of the B-29 Superfortress bomber, conceived after General Hap Arnold consulted with Charles Lindbergh in 1939. The B-29 represented the ultimate expression of air supremacy doctrine, demanding revolutionary technologies including pressurized crew cabins and remote-controlled gun turrets that did not yet exist. Bill Knudsen directed the program, overcoming severe delays and persistent technical deficiencies. Knudsen won the "Battle of Omaha" by insisting that aircraft be extensively modified after assembly to achieve operational flight status, thereby integrating a massive female industrial workforce into B-29 production processes. Lessons from WWII: Unleashing Private Enterprise — Arthur Herman — Herman explores the strategic tension during WWII between New Deal administrators favoring centralized government command and industrialists prioritizing private sector innovation and operational flexibility. FDR and Knudsen learned from the disastrous centralized economic control failures of WWI, choosing instead to permit American private enterprise to "determine production methodologies and develop solutions for urgent national requirements." The fundamental secret to Allied victory was unleashing private sector dynamism, entrepreneurial expertise, and competitive energy. Herman draws contemporary parallels, arguing that modern defense strategy must replicate this model, contrasting bureaucratic NASA operations with innovative private enterprises including SpaceX.
