They are all family dynasties who, for better or worse, have influenced the history of the world.Historian and writer Simon Sebag Montefiore is a formidable storyteller, and his detailed and engaging works about historical figures such as Catherine the Great, Stalin and the Romanovs have earned him readers across the globe. In his most recent book, The World – A Family History of Humanity, his focus is no less than the entire world history, told through some of the most central family dynasties.More than an ambitious and grand project, Montefiore's latest colossal publication is also an exploration and re-thinking of how we tell history. “World history often has themes, not people; biography has people, not themes,” as he writes in the book's introduction.By emphasizing the family, he is able to combine the two – the great historical events with the stories of the people in the midst of it all. Pulitzer Prize-winning automotive journalist Dan Neil, named tonight's featured vehicle one of the 50 worst cars of all time, saying it "violate(d) one of the principal rules of car design: we like cars that look like us. With its multiple eyes and supernumerary nostrils, the Aztek looks deformed and scary, something that dogs bark at and cathedrals employ to ring bells. The shame is, under all that ugliness, there was a useful, competent crossover."   The Pontiac Aztek has always been noted for its controversial styling; but thanks in part to Hollywood, and the passions of folks like our panel tonight; the Aztek has gained more than just a cult following and we want to explore that. Joining us tonight are Jon Peterson and Paul Gunn from the Aztek Owners Club to Break/Fix to unpack the Pontiac Aztek story.

A ty, jak reagujesz na umierający dom? *** Gdy umierają domy, to my, ludzie czujemy jakiś taki żal. Nawet jeśli to nie są nasze domy. Nawet jeśli w nich nigdy nie byliśmy. Nawet gdy nie są piękne. I nigdy nie były! Ale czujemy żal... Dlaczego? Czy to tęsknota za szczęśliwym życiem, które tam sobie wyobrażamy? Czy to pragnienie zatrzymania czasu? Czy to instynkt życia, który odrzuca przemijanie. Czy to strach przed porzuceniem? Ktoś porzucił ten dom, dom porzuca ten świat. Nigdy już tu nie wróci. Gdy widziamy umierający dom na chwilę zatrzymujemy oddech, czasem - przystaniemy, czasem wydarzy się więcej niż westchnienie... znam miasta których biedne dzielnice, opuszczone kwartały - przyciągają zwiedzających. A w egzotycznych miejscach, w gorącym klimacie, opuszczone przez ludzie miejsca malowniczo zabiera przyroda, natura sprzymierzona z czasem. Ludzie stają w takich miejscach w zdziwieniu, zachwycie, tęsknocie, smutku i czym tam jeszcze. Zwiedzamy ruiny zamków, chociażby... Ruiny życie nie lubimy. I bardzo słusznie, ale po po takie mocne, intrygujące, inspirujące wrażenia z umierania domów - można pojechać do Hawany. Pytałam o Hawanę niedawno Martą i Piotra Popławskich . Wprawdzie nie rozmawialiśmy o ruinach, ale nie dało się tematu malowniczego upadku tego miasta pominąć, XXX o hawanie w dźwięku ;) Lubimy stare samochody. Lubimy stare domy... jak świat długi i szeroki. Ludzie starych – jeśli mają piękne twarze rzeźbione dobrymi emocjami i wzrok bystry, i mądrość wszystkich sów oraz sfinksów…. Ale – wracam do głównego wątku: gdy umierają domy, to my, ludzie czujemy ciekawe emocje. Tak naprawdę, stawiamy wtedy na życie, na radość, ale...... Evliya Çelebi'mizin Anadolulu bir sincabın orman imkânlarından bahsederken; Van'dan İskenderun'a, ya da Erzurum'dan Antalya'ya ve yahut Diyarbakır'dan İstanbul'a gibi sonradan çeşitlendirildiği anlaşılan birkaç rotada hiç toprağa basmadan yol alabileceğini kaydettiği söylenir. Gerçekten ilginç görülebilecek bir tespit ama aslında öyle değil. Sürdürülebilirlik (dünyanın gelecek nesiller için yeterli ve elverişli olması) etrafında tüm süreçler ve iş dünyası yeniden formatlanmaya başlandı. Bu bağlamdaki gelişmeler iki motivasyondan besleniyor. Birincisi oto-farkındalık ikincisi ise finansal dayatma. Türkiye sıfır atıkta pilot ülke olarak sürdürülebilirlikte önü çekse de işletmelerin farkındalığı yeterli değil gibi geliyor. Bu durumda finansal dayatmayla karşı karşıya kalması beklenebilir. Ben de konuyu bu yüzden gündeme aldım. Dünyada artık işletmelerin karbon ayak izi ve diğer sürdürülebilirlik kriterleri kredi değerliliklerini belirliyor. Finansal kesim çevre duyarlılığı olmayan işletmelere ya kredi vermeyerek ya da daha maliyetli vererek bir disiplin oluşturmaya çalışıyor. Şimdilik belli “ticket size” (kredi projesi büyüklüğü) üzerindeki işlemler için uygulansa da yakında KOBİ'lere kadar bu tutum inecektir. Çünkü sürdürülebilirlik başlığında 2030 ve 2050 karbon emisyonu azaltma ve sıfırlama (net sıfır) için kararlaştırılmış tarihler ve ülkeler adım atmaya başladı. Türkiye de karbon borsasını kurduktan sonra tutumunu daha güçlü belli edecektir.

They are 2 of the silliest but realest guys I've known over the years. They always show mad respect for people involved and bring a different style to the scene. The hip hop embedded in the hardcore culture runs deep in Detroit. They take it to 11 when BKC is on the stage and nothing less. They may do something but are in need of a drummer. DO IT! We had a great time sitting together and laughing and getting crazy. Typical hardcore knuckle heads to say the least but beyond that are the most loyal and creative artists in the Detroit music scene and I'm glad to know them.  Shout out to Joe Hyde for letting me use his band The Alliance as part of my intro until I get a real one.
