Send us a textFall beer season brings a perfect excuse to explore the spectrum of autumnal flavors, and we're diving headfirst into two distinctive brews that couldn't be more different yet equally impressive. The Brew Kettle's Pumpkin Drop Lager offers a refreshing take on the pumpkin beer formula. At 5% ABV, this Ohio-based brew delivers authentic pumpkin flavor without overwhelming your palate with excessive cinnamon—a common pitfall of seasonal offerings. We discuss how some breweries (like 311 in Chardon) go to extraordinary lengths for pumpkin authenticity, literally dumping entire 21-inch pumpkin pies—crust and all—into their brewing tanks. The mental image of brewers struggling to upend these massive pies brings as much joy as the perfectly balanced flavors in our glasses.Switching gears dramatically, we sample Hoofhearted Brewing's Club Paradise, an 8% ABV tiki-inspired sour ale that combines pineapple, coconut, strawberry, lime, and vanilla into something truly special. Despite its complex ingredient list, the predominant strawberry note harmonizes beautifully with subtle cookie-like undertones, earning this adventurous brew a perfect 10/10 from both hosts. At $20 for a four-pack, it's definitely a splurge, but one we heartily recommend for sour lovers seeking something extraordinary.Beyond the beers themselves, we take a hilarious detour through Hoofhearted's irreverent website, marveling at their outrageously named brews and creative can designs. From "Combat Spandex" to "Key Bump" and beyond, their artistic approach to beer branding deserves recognition even if you never taste a drop. Pair all this with our recurring "Ricky's Bad Choices" segment (featuring confessions about shoplifting, suspended licenses, and ill-advised gambling), and you've got an episode as complex and satisfying as the beverages in our glasses.Support the showwww.anotherreasontodrink.com

Calling out inappropriate CFI behavior! John and Todd dig into the details of a fatal September 2023 accident involving a night training flight. The student's regular instructor was not available, and this was the first training with a different CFI.The CFI's actions were unprofessional and inappropriate. He uploaded posts to Snapchat before and during the flight. In a post uploaded prior to the flight, the CFI complained about how long the student took to do a preflight inspection. John Goglia reminds that a preflight inspection should take as long as necessary! The CFI was the pilot-in-command of the flight. He made critical decisions that put the aircraft in danger and likely led to the crash. While returning from the night training flight, the CFI ignored storms in the area and pressed on instead of landing at an alternate airport. The plane encountered severe turbulence and broke up in flight, killing the CFI and the student. In other news, the Mental Health in Aviation Act of 2025 now under consideration in the U.S. would improve aviation safety. Interest in the issue was spurred in part by the latest season of HBO's “The Rehearsal” in which John Goglia helped highlight pilot mental health issues. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the act, and it is now before the Senate. This legislation would make it less likely that pilots and air traffic controllers who take medications for mental health issues would keep their FAA certifications. If you want change in your life, it is you who must initiate change. The only way it can happenn is by doing that inner work, because all of the mess inside is causing dysfunction in your outside world. Most people hold on to the negative aspects of their experiences, which forms their negative mindsets. If you don't progress you remain mentally stuck. Therefore, there's no mental maturity, which is why people continue to make bad choices and decisions.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/relationships-and-relatable-life-chronicles--4126439/support.

Send us a textFall beer season has officially arrived, and we're celebrating with a deep dive into two exceptional seasonal brews that captured our attention. The Bent Run Amber Ale from Warren, PA packs a perfect balance of toffee notes and drinkability at 5.8% ABV, while Shiner's Oktoberfest delivers a surprisingly smooth experience that challenges our usual preference for pumpkin beers.Rick takes us on a culinary adventure, recounting his camping experiment with hot honey garlic scallops and ramen on a Blackstone griddle. Despite the challenges of finding proper sea scallop medallions and the patience required to steam ramen outdoors, the result was worth every minute. This cooking tale transitions naturally into discussions about the joys of fall camping and the approaching leaf season, which forecasters predict will arrive early this year. The conversation wanders into hilarious territory during "Ricky's Bad Choices" segment, where road trip adventures and hypothetical scenarios have us in stitches. We debate the merits of various brewing techniques, smartphone etiquette in public restrooms (spoiler alert: never put your phone on a bathroom floor), and plans to explore dispersed camping sites near the Allegheny Mountains. Whether you're team Oktoberfest or team Pumpkin, this episode captures that magical feeling of embracing seasonal flavors while enjoying cooler temperatures. Send us a textRemember that perfect summer day when everything tasted better? That's exactly what we captured in this episode when we cracked open a Blueberry Lemon Shandy from Saugatuck Brewing Company. This Michigan-made marvel transported us straight to flavor paradise with its authentic blueberry profile that had us reminiscing about childhood cereals and carefree summer days. Not too sweet, not artificial - just pure, refreshing blueberry goodness that earned our coveted perfect 10 rating. But summer isn't always sunshine and rainbows, as we learned with our second tasting. The Rocket Pop Sour from High Wire Brewing promised nostalgic popsicle flavors but delivered something closer to melted popsicle water from the bottom of a cooler. With minimal carbonation and an identity crisis that left us questioning what makes a beer truly "sour," this disappointing 5/10 experience proved that creative concepts don't always translate to satisfying sips.Between tastings, we swap stories about weekend golfing adventures, camping mishaps, and the peculiar behavior of aging dogs with digestive issues. Our "Ricky's Bad Choices" segment ventures into morally questionable territory with questions about sleeping in empty graves for cash and whether we'd crush children's Santa dreams for money. We also bond over our shared hatred of extended warranty phone scams and reminisce about the friend dynamics of bar-hopping in our younger days.Whether you're seeking your next favorite summer beer or just want to hang with friends who tell it like it is, this episode delivers honest reviews, genuine laughs, and the occasional cautionary tale about what happens when your beer tastes like glue. Send us a textWhat happens when friends gather over specialty beers and start sharing unfiltered thoughts about everything from BBQ sauce experiments to golf adventures? This episode captures the authentic camaraderie that makes craft beer tasting so enjoyable.First up, we dive into Narragansett Lager, a Rhode Island classic dating back to 1890. At 5% ABV and just 12 IBU, this smooth, uniquely flavored beer earns high praise as an excellent "everyday drinker" that's perfect for those hot summer days. Both hosts award it a solid 9/10, appreciating its distinctive character that somewhat resembles Red Stripe but with its own personality. The conversation takes a culinary turn as Rick shares his weekend adventure making homemade Cherry Bourbon BBQ sauce. From smoking jalapeños to the tedious process of hand-pitting cherries (a task he vows never to repeat), the detailed account of his cooking experiment reveals both triumphs and challenges. Despite using two cups of bourbon and plenty of peppers, achieving the perfect heat level proved elusive – though the sauce still earned rave reviews when paired with "poor man's burnt ends."Our second tasting features Tired Hands' Double Watermelon Milkshake IPA (9% ABV), which sparks a fascinating discussion about expectations versus reality. Despite its "milkshake" designation, this beer surprises with its refreshing quality and subtle watermelon finish that perfectly balances the IPA bitterness without tasting artificial. It's awarded an 8/10, with both hosts noting they'd keep it in regular rotation if not for the premium price point.Between tastings, genuine friendship shines through discussions of upcoming golf outings, camping trips, and the "Ricky's Bad Choices" segment that reveals personal insights through random questions. There's also a candid look at podcast economics – each recording session costs about $40 per person between specialty beers and shared meals.Subscribe through Buzzsprout to support the show and join us for more unfiltered beer reviews where honesty, humor, and friendship flow as freely as the brews we're sampling. July 8, 2025Today's Reading: Galatians 6:1-10, 14-18Daily Lectionary: Judges 3:7-31; Acts 13:42-52“Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. I can't focus. I'm distracted. I can't do what I want to do. I'm just trying to do my homework. I'm just trying to do my chores. No matter how much I try to check off my to-do list, my eyes always wander, and my thoughts are not focused on the tasks at hand. THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO. These are strong words from Paul for the church in Galatia, and they have not softened in 2000 years. This is a lofty goal and a difficult to-do list: DO NOT GROW WEARY OF DOING GOOD. You know why? Because that is the first thing that we grow tired of. We poor, miserable sinners want to do good for about 3.2 seconds, and then we become selfish. We want to do anything else. We are lazy. We don't have the energy to do good. We are bored. We can't be bothered with the needs of others. Our need comes first, and then we sin. We can't do it on our own. That is how Christ did good (the ultimate GOOD) for us. Our needs came first. Jesus did good for us because we could not. We have eternal salvation in Christ because He did not give up on us. By the power of the Holy Spirit, you can, and will, do good. You will make good choices and God will bring forth fruit from those good choices. We should pray for strength and opportunities to make good choices and put ourselves in situations that help us to do good. However, you are your own person. Good choices are not always easy. You will get distracted, and you will FAIL. You will FALL SHORT. You will make BAD CHOICES. And you know what…God will continue to LOVE YOU, FORGIVE YOU, and GIVE YOU another chance to do good. God's love for you is always there. He is always good (even and especially when we aren't). God has so much to do, and He takes care of you. God is focused on you because He loves you. God is GOOD, and He does not give up on us. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Lord Jesus Christ, keep our eyes focused on you. You have done the ultimate good for us. Empower us with the strength to share that good with others. May we love as you have loved us. May we forgive as you have forgiven us. May we live lives reflective of your love. Amen. - Rev. Roger Stites, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Sequim, WA.Audio Reflections Speaker: Pastor Jonathan Lackey is the pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Vine Grove, KY.In Clarifying the Great Commission, Rev. Daniel Christian Voth identifies common omissions from our collective understanding of Jesus' farewell discourse—omissions that turn Christ's promises of forgiveness, life, and salvation into a legalistic command. Send us a textCrack open a cold one and join us for a beer-soaked journey through craft brews, life stories, and questionable decisions. This episode features a head-to-head battle between two distinct Ohio craft beer styles – Masthead Brewery's Rotondra Hazy IPA (a collaboration with Heinen's) and Twin Oaks Brewery's Ship Burner Porter. The hazy IPA surprises us with its bold, bitter profile that defies expectations for the style, prompting a discussion about how breweries interpret popular beer categories. Meanwhile, the chocolatey, coffee-forward porter delivers a smooth drinking experience that reminds us why darker beers deserve more attention. Between sips, we break down the differences between porters and stouts for anyone who's ever been confused by these similar styles.Beyond the brews, we share our anxiety about an upcoming camping trip threatened by rain forecasts, trade stories about yard work woes, and conduct an impromptu psychological experiment that proves most people will think of "Denmark, kangaroo, and orange" when given specific prompts. The "Ricky's Bad Choices" segment takes a hilariously uncomfortable turn as we explore questionable life decisions involving age gaps, sex tapes from the VHS era, and encounters that probably shouldn't be shared in public.Whether you're a craft beer enthusiast, enjoy candid conversations between friends, or just appreciate hearing other people's embarrassing stories to feel better about your own choices, this episode delivers plenty of laughs and insights. Send us a textFamily bonds take center stage as the podcast welcomes a very special guest—Mark, the older brother of host Rick. This long-anticipated appearance brings hilarious childhood stories, heartfelt memories, and of course, plenty of beer tasting to celebrate Rick's birthday weekend. The brothers dive into two distinct brews with enthusiasm and expertise. First, they sample Boss Dogs Jobu, a hazy IPA from Cleveland Heights that earns impressive ratings for its balanced heat and complex flavor profile. Their passionate discussion about the differences between traditional IPAs and hazy varieties reflects their growing appreciation for craft beer subtleties. Later, they revisit Founders Dirty Bastard, a Scottish-style ale with rich chocolate notes, demonstrating how their palates and preferences have evolved since starting the podcast. What truly makes this episode shine, however, are the unfiltered family stories that emerge between sips. Mark reveals his protective relationship with Rick as children, including how he would check on his younger brother during the night. Childhood nicknames like "Putt-Putt" and "Skidmark" come to light, much to Rick's chagrin. The brothers play their signature game "Ricky's Bad Choices," leading to hilarious confessions about bar mishaps, unusual foods, and even Mark's youthful attempt to outrun the police.Throughout it all runs a genuine thread of brotherhood that's impossible to fake. Their easy banter, inside jokes, and comfortable ribbing create an atmosphere that makes listeners feel like they're sharing beers around a campfire with old friends. As Mark puts it himself, driving to the recording felt "like a little kid on Christmas morning"—a sentiment that perfectly captures the joyful reunion spirit that makes this episode special.Ready to join this family celebration? From testosterone tests to party game madness, this episode covers all the essentials. Arend's doctor tells him to lift heavy weights (which Thomas lives for), and Thomas tells a jaw-dropping story of a drunk driver flipping a truck in front of his house—while he was out of town watching it all unfold on his Ring camera. We dive into OK Boomer (thanks for the birthday gift, Thomas) and test our knowledge across generations—turns out Thomas did have a Big Wheel as a kid. But the real highlight? Bad Choices—a game full of outrageous hypotheticals. Would you get pooped on by birds for money? Lose a finger? Dress like a clown and get pummeled weekly? Thomas and Arend weigh the options… and Arend does some very questionable math.

Send us a text"Pure Water Beer is actually a pure beer," we marvel, sipping the crystal-clear American lager from Common Roots Brewing Company. Located in an old brick factory building in South Glen Falls, NY, this brewery has created something special – a beer that rivals your favorite mass-produced lager but elevates the experience through quality ingredients and sustainable water management. We're immediately struck by its clean, crisp profile that lacks the cloying sweetness of many commercial options.Between beers, our conversation takes a deeply personal turn. "It was rough, dude," Rick shares about saying goodbye to his beloved dog Bruno earlier that week. There's raw emotion as he describes their final camping trip together, the last golf cart ride around the neighborhood, and the heartbreak of coming home afterward. The podcast becomes a space for processing grief alongside life's lighter moments – from CPAP machine mishaps that trigger 2AM marital standoffs to attempts at solving muddy paw problems with artificial grass installations. Our second tasting features Hot Blonde from Catawba Island Brewing Company – a mango habanero blonde ale that brings just enough heat to complement its tropical sweetness. "You can taste the mango, but you can taste that slight habanero," we note, appreciating how the warmth builds gradually without overwhelming the palate. At 4.7% ABV, it's another approachable option that demonstrates the creativity possible within craft brewing.Through our signature "Ricky's Bad Choices" segment and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, we navigate the full spectrum of human experience – from profound loss to absurd hypotheticals about robot relationships. It's a reminder that sometimes, the simple act of sharing stories over good beer creates the connection we need most during life's challenging moments.Have you tried either of these brews? We'd love to hear your thoughts! Send us a textThe perfect pairing isn't always planned - and that's exactly what happened when Rick and Mal cracked open Shiner's Strawberry Blonde alongside Windridge Cider Company's Blackberry Mojito. With natural strawberry essence that doesn't overwhelm and a mint-forward cider that surprised even the non-mint enthusiast, this episode delivers two thoughtful reviews that go beyond simple thumbs up or down.Between sips, the conversation wanders to luxury overlanding vehicles (specifically a $300,000 Ram Storyteller that has the guys dreaming of road trips), the excitement of golf season's return, and a heartfelt discussion about saying goodbye to a beloved pet. It's this seamless blend of beverage appreciation and authentic life moments that defines the show's intimate, conversational style. The Shiner earns respectable 8/10 ratings for its balanced approach to fruit beer - subtly sweet without artificial flavors - while the Blackberry Mojito cider steals the show with 9/10 scores, praised for tasting nothing like typical ciders and delivering a refreshing mint experience that "soothes the belly." What becomes clear is how differently the hosts might rank their preferences, with one preferring the strawberry beer due to personal taste, despite rating the cider higher on its technical merits.True to form, the guys share stories from their first golf outing of the season, debate the proper etiquette at BYOB parties, and dive into Ricky's Bad Choices - their segment of hypothetical questions that always leads to revealing answers and hearty laughs. Yet beneath the banter lies a touching moment as one host prepares to say goodbye to his aging dog, reminding us that sometimes our reasons to drink are bittersweet.Whether you're a craft beer enthusiast, cider curious, or just enjoy authentic conversation among friends, pour yourself something special and join the guys for another honest, unfiltered episode. Have you ever sat in a doctor’s office filling out forms, just guessing your whole medical history? Same! This week, Good Moms are joined by community healer, author, friend, and founder of Precious Dreams Foundation, Nicole Russell Wharton! Nicole shares how she found out the hard way that family silence isn’t just frustrating, it can actually be dangerous. After six surgeries in one year and a diagnosis that should’ve never been a surprise, Nicole started asking questions that her family had never talked about (It’s likely yours hasn't either!) This led her to start asking hard questions, uncovering hidden family histories, and ultimately writing her book, “Breaking Generational Silence: A Guide To Disrupt Unhealthy Family Patterns and Heal Inherited Trauma” Share this episode with a friend so we’re not all out here putting “I don’t know” on every damn medical form! What you can expect to hear: (3:10) Come see Good Moms at Black Effect Podcast Festival!! (9:30) Why the ‘good woman’ stereotype is outdated (14:45) Nicole shares how her lung collapse was connected to her menstrual cycle; ultimately leading to her endometriosis diagnosis (27:30) The importance of asking your family uncomfortable questions and some things to keep in mind while you do it (34:15) Bad Choice of the Week Segment (41:20) How Nicole got her dad to finally open up, by showing him death certificates and family records. In her own words…"I had to ask my dad questions with receipts—because Black families don’t just volunteer information." (49:55) Why generational trauma shows up in our bodies, and how breaking silence is the first step toward healing (1:02:40) Nicole talks about her infertility struggle and reveals some surprising information with Erica and Milah Connect With Us: @GoodMoms_BadChoices @TheGoodVibeRetreat @Good.GoodMedia @WatchErica @Milah_Mapp -------------------------------------- Good Vibes Retreats: Got a lover? Send us a textTwo seasonal beer releases collide in our latest tasting adventure, resulting in unexpected discoveries and hearty laughs. We kick things off with Victory Brewing Company's Peanut Butter Candy Cake Porter, a smooth 6.0% ABV offering that immediately impresses with its harmonious blend of chocolate, coffee, and peanut butter notes. The lack of bitterness and perfect flavor balance earns it a solid 8.5/10 from both hosts. As we transition to Southern Tier's Irish Cream Stout (5.8% ABV), something curious happens. While browsing both breweries' websites, we stumble upon identical layouts, special offers, and weekly promotions – revealing an apparent connection between these seemingly separate brewing companies. This craft beer conspiracy becomes an engaging subplot as we savor the slightly sweeter profile of the Irish Cream Stout, which we agree would serve as an excellent alternative to Irish coffee during St. Patrick's season.Between sips, the conversation wanders into entertaining hypothetical scenarios. Would you amputate a finger for $50,000? (We unanimously agree we would.) Would you accept $500,000 to work as a children's party clown every Saturday for life? (That's a hard pass from both of us.) Our "Bad Choices" segment might raise eyebrows, but it reflects the unfiltered camaraderie that makes sharing great beer with friends so special.Whether you're preparing for St. Patrick's Day festivities or simply searching for perfect seasonal brews to welcome spring, both of these 8.5-rated offerings deserve a spot in your rotation. Grab a cold one, press play, and join us for this celebration of craft beer, friendship, and unexpected brewing industry revelations.Support the showwww.anotherreasontodrink.com
