Stephanie Morimoto, owner and CEO of the brand Asutra, is an organic leader. She was a customer of Asutra and passionate about the products when she discovered the company was for sale. She likes to invest in companies that she can shape and grow, and after a twelve year career helping educational non-profits raise $500 million, she saw a fantastic opportunity with Asutra. Tennis great Venus Williams also was in love with the magnesium products for pain and joined the company as a co-owner and Chief Brand Officer. Stephanie speaks with me on what it was like to raise funds in the education space, and her transition into business ownership. She reveals undiscussed barriers for women like the hurdle of selling a female-driven product to a male investor, or the lack of education for women on how to find funding. Stephanie attributes her entrepreneurial spirit to her grandfather who was incarcerated in WWII internment camps for Japanese Americans, then served in the National Guard. Her grandfather stood by the golden rule - treat people how you want to be treated. She also credits her career to excellent mentorship which she pays forward. A self-care product company, Asutra focuses on women but find their products for relief from pain after exercise or sleep aids are for everyone. Asutra has bigger and bolder plans in the works for 2021, so keep your eyes peeled. Do you enjoy our podcast every week? Understanding how the brain works remains one of the biggest mysteries for science to solve. There is a lot that we do not know about the brain and most of what we do know has only been discovered in the last few decades. The people that are working to help us understand and care for the human brain are some of the most dedicated and brilliant minds in medicine. They know that the answers to critical questions in neuroscience live at the intersection between biology, cognitive psychology, artificial intelligence, computer science, data, statistics and engineering and they are working to leverage all of these areas of science to apply new applications of immersive technology to brain health. We are excited to have one of those brilliant minds as our guest on this episode. Dr. Ali Rezai, leads the comprehensive and integrated clinical and research programs in the neurosciences at West Virginia University and WVU Medicine and is the Director of the newly formed West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.

What happens in the brain when obsession and falling in love occurs? And am I my brain or is there more to me than that? What about fear and deeply rooted conviction -what does it look like in the brain and why is it hard to break free from? Dr. Fred Travis is Professor of Maharishi Vedic Science and director of Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition and when he visited Denmark last week, I had the honor of meeting him for talk about “the brilliant brain”. My brain failed me as we sat outside in too much wind, so the first part of the episode is a reconstruct through Skype, but hang in there, because we did take a journey upstairs and went ahead with the interview inside. If you are addicted to swiping on Tinder, then listen to my last question for Dr. Fred Travis after his lecture on the brain in meditation in the final part of this episode. Are you throwing up your hands as you send the kids out the door to school and say 'God Bless that teacher they are now all her's'? But is that the real story? Do you pray for the school year but dread the time when the kids come home with all the issues they are having in class and how are they adapting or not to the new environments? Not only parents but also grandparents and other caregivers are part of the process in helping the children adapt to all the changes in school. Are drugs the answer or are they just a stepping stone to tone down the noise in their heads? Are these drugs the path towards a lifetime of shutting off symptoms and stuffing them down only to have the child learn that a pill will take care of everything?Dr. Robert Keith Wallace and Dr. Frederick Travis, authors of Dharma Parenting: Understand Your Child's Brilliant Brain for Greater Happiness, Health, Success, and Fulfillment which will help you find a root source of options toward helping your children. This book takes nutrition, essence of the traditions routed in Ayurvedic Medicine, and trusted patterns to helping the family unit. Aired Sunday, 4 September 2016, 9:00 PM ETParents often marvel at how differently each of their children learn, think, and function: one child might learn quickly and forget quickly, while another learns slowly and forgets slowly; one kid might be hyperactive, while another is slow moving; and one may fall asleep quickly, only to awake in the middle of the night, while another takes hours to fall asleep.Join Sylvia and her two guests, Dr. Robert Keith Wallace and Dr. Frederick Travis, co-authors of Dharma Parenting: Understanding your Child’s Brilliant Brain for Greater Happiness, Health, Success, and Fulfillment, as they discuss how parents can use the time-tested knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine to better understand their child’s natural inclinations and corresponding strengths and weaknesses.About the Guests Dr. Wallace and Dr. TravisROBERT KEITH WALLACE is a pioneering researcher on the physiology of consciousness. In their groundbreaking book, Dharma Parenting: Understand Your Child's Brilliant Brain for Greater Happiness, Health, Success and Fulfillment, renowned scientists Dr. Robert Wallace and Dr. Frederick Travis draw on contemporary scientific research and the time-tested knowledge of Ayurvedic typology to explain our children's natural inclinations (i.e. why one child learns quickly and forgets quickly while another learns slowly and forgets slowly; why one child is hyperactive and another slow moving; or why one falls asleep quickly but wakes in the night while another takes hours to fall asleep). Combining this with the latest understanding of how the brain is shaped by natural maturation, Wallace and Travis show parents how to better understand their child's natural inclinations and corresponding strengths and weaknesses. Using a simple quiz to ascertain their children's unique brain/body type, readers will learn: What kinds of foods best support each individual child's brain/body typeWhich routines best suit each brain/body typeHow to choose activities that bring each child greater enjoyment and well-beingHow parents can determine their own brain/body type, and how it impacts their relationship with their kidsHow parents should alter their parenting approach for each age group Robert Keith Wallace is a pioneering researcher on the physiology of consciousness. Two renowned neuroscientists and pioneers in documenting the benefits of Transcendental Meditation give parents a guided tour of their children's brains through contemporary science and ancient Ayurvedic typology (parents can "type" their kids and themselves) for a wealth of methods and insights to maximize your child's learning and behavioral style. Dharma Parenting offers a uniquely individual approach to raising a happy and successful child. The word "dharma" means a way of living that upholds the path of evolution, maintains balance, and supports both prosperity and spiritual freedom. Aired Wednesday, 3 August 2016, 3:00 PM ETABOUT Dr. Robert Keith Walace:ROBERT KEITH WALLACE is a pioneering researcher on the physiology of consciousness. His research has inspired hundreds of studies on the benefits of meditation and other mind-body techniques. Dr. Wallace’s findings have been published in Science, American Journal of Physiology, and Scientific American. He received his BS in physics and his PhD in physiology from UCLA and conducted postgraduate research at Harvard University. Dr. Wallace is the founding president of Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in Fairfield, Iowa.ABOUT DHARMA PARENTING:Parents often marvel at how differently each of their children operate: one child might learn quickly and forget quickly, while another learns slowly and forgets slowly; one kid might be hyperactive, while another is slow moving; and one may fall asleep quickly, only to awake in the night, while another takes hours to fall asleep. In DHARMA PARENTING: Understand Your Child’s Brilliant Brain for Greater Happiness, Health, Success, and Fulfillment (A TarcherPerigee paperback; on sale August 2, 2016), renowned scientists Dr. Robert Keith Wallace and Dr. Frederick Travis explain the reasons for these differences and use their groundbreaking scientific research to help parents ascertain their child’s unique brain/body type. Drawing on the time-tested knowledge of these Ayurvedic types and combining it with the latest understanding of how the brain is shaped by natural maturation, Wallace and Travis show parents how to better understand their child’s natural inclinations and corresponding strengths and weaknesses.Once parents determine whether their child is a creative Vata, a passionate Pitta, or a steady Kapha, they can then learn which routines to follow, meals to prepare, and discipline to pursue for each child at every stage of development. Equally important is parents’ assessment of their own Ayurvedic type, which also allows them to address their own unique needs and to better understand the dynamics of their relationships with their children.Offering a wealth of methods and insights from both scientific research and successful, real-life parenting situations, DHARMA PARENTING provides actionable steps and practical advice for those seeking a happy and balanced lifestyle for all members of the family.Websites: www.dharmaparenting.com
