Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I'm excited to share another episode with this guest and the exciting journey he is about to embark on this summer. Paris would be Summer Games debut for 27-year-old Calgary-born runner. Rory Linkletter is only the 2nd Canadian to hit the Olympic qualifying standard in the men's marathon for Paris this summer. The 27-year-old set a personal-best time of two hours eight minutes one second at the Sevilla Marathon in Spain. Rory ran nine seconds under the 2:08:10 standard and posted the third-fastest finish all-time among Canadian men behind Cam Levins (2:05.36 and 2:07.09). Rory Linkletter moved from Canada to the United States at age six and became a U.S. citizen in 2020. He holds dual citizenship. Coached by American marathon record holder Ryan Hall, he starred for five years at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where Rory earned six All-American citations. Rory is a distance runner who first represented Canada internationally at the 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in the U20 division. He subsequently went on to compete at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in both 2017 and 2019. He finished second in 10,000m at the 2017 NCAA Championships. During his college running career, he earned six All-American citations while competing for Brigham Young University, where he majored in political science and minored in communications. Rory set a new Canadian record at the Houston Half-Marathon in January 2022. Rory lowered Jeff Schiebler's 23-year-old Canadian half-marathon record of 61:28, crossing the finish line in 61:08 for eighth place. However, before he laces up his everyday to train for his upcoming Olympic debut, Rory is a family man with a very supportive wife and two amazing kids. In our conversation, Rory not only shares his journey to get to the Olympic stage, but also how much he loves being a dad. If you would like to learn more about Rory Linkletter, please see the links below in the show notes. Also, don't forget to watch Rory compete in the marathon at the Paris Olympics. Dad Up! Rory Linkletter is a Canadian marathoner for PUMA. He just ran 2:08:01 at the Seville Marathon to get under the Olympic qualifying standard. He is in a good position to get selected by Athletics Canada for Paris. Canadian record holder Cam Levins has already been selected for the team and assuming no one else runs faster than Rory in the next two months, he'll be set to go to his first Olympics. Rory was a standout runner at BYU and then turned professional in 2019. He spent some time with HOKA NAZ Elite before choosing to leave the team in 2022 and has been working with Ryan Hall in Flagstaff, Arizona. In this episode, you'll hear all about why the training has worked so well. He shares a bit about Ryan's coaching and training philosophy. Plus, I try to start some trash talk between Rory and Conner Mantz or Clayton Young – his former teammates. "You don't just take fourth at the World Championships randomly. I think I can be one of the best in the world if we continue to improve here. That's what the goal has basically become. It was a dream. Now it's a goal." Cam Levins just smashed the Canadian record in the marathon for the second year in a row, clocking in at an astounding 2:05:36 at the Tokyo Marathon. And get this - that time also breaks the North American record that has stood since 2002. But it's not just the numbers that are impressive. Cam's journey to get here is equally inspiring. At 33 years old, Cam is still pushing himself to new limits, now under the guidance of Jim Finlayson. We explore that relationship and how they connected. We also talk about his training regimen going back to triples and double-threshold training. We dive into his mindset, self-belief and what drives him to keep pushing himself to be the best he can be. Cameron Levins is one of the best marathoners in North America. But at the onset of an Olympic year, he finds himself in an unimaginable situation — Levins has yet to qualify for the Tokyo Games, and he's only got one shot left this spring. Not only that, but his ambitions to run much faster than his Canadian national record of 2:09:25 (run in his debut marathon) have perhaps led him to fail in his three subsequent attempts at the distance. Now, with all three Olympic team spots occupied for the Canadian marathon squad, Levins is forced to do something truly special just to make it back to the Games. Hosts Alex Cyr and Michael Doyle break down Levins career thus far, look at his triumph and struggles in the marathon, and ask pointed questions about the extraordinarily gifted and ambitious marathoner's performances, his options for locking up a spot on the Tokyo start line, and what happens to his career and legacy if he misses a second straight Games. Our coverage of Sunday's Marathon Project in Arizona continues with... the man, the myth, the Canadian marathon running legend: Cameron Levins. Levins says he will be racing for the win on Sunday, but also plans on breaking his own Canadian national marathon record of 2:09:25 in the process. Oh, and that will no doubt confirm his return to the Olympics after a nine year absence. In this podcast, host Michael Doyle speaks with Levins, who is already in Arizona waiting for race day. They discuss his surreal and tough experience running the London Marathon in October, his quest to be a world-beating marathoner, and the jaw-dropping workouts he's done in prep for The Marathon Project. It's Marathon Project week at The XC, where we are going deep on the event, including daily podcasts and a live pod on race day, Dec. 20, starting at 9:30 a.m. ET. on our YouTube channel, Facebook page and on Twitter. This week, we interview runners who are gearing up for The Marathon Project, a race in Chandler, Ariz., that doubles as an qualifier for the 2021 Olympic Games. It's probably going to be the fastest North American marathon of 2020, and it happens on Sunday, Dec. 20. Our first guest is Rory Linkletter, a 24-year-old Canadian-American, and second-time marathoner. Last fall, he raced to a 2:16:42 in his marathon debut. Linkletter, a professional runner for Hoka One One and NAZ Elite, hopes to dip under the Olympic standard of 2:11:30 on Sunday. That sounds like a stretch, until you consider that he's run the second fastest half-marathon in Canadian history earlier this year in 61:44, and it's clear from his Strava profile that he is ready to run much faster than 2:16. Here, Linkletter tells us what The Marathon Project is all about - he lives in Flagstaff, so he has the inside scoop. We also chat about his preparation for the race, his decision to let his hair grow until he makes an Olympic team - it's already down to his shoulders - and his experience living with fellow Canadian Olympic hopeful Cam Levins for 5 weeks this fall. We hope you enjoy the conversation. Be sure to catch our Marathon Project coverage throughout the week. We will have a few more runners on to chat prior to the race, and we are preparing a live viewing experience of the race itself on Sunday, Dec 20.

Listen to other episodes here: https://sites.google.com/view/terminal-mile-link-tree/home What can’t be said about Cam Levins at this point??? Canadian marathon record holder, Olympian, NCAA Champion...even his training is a part of our sports folklore as rumours of monster mileage dominated early conversations during his time at Southern Utah. Recently Cam, a Hoka One One and Polar athlete coached by 2 time Canadian Marathon champion Jim Finlayson, has captured our attention once again, posting larger than life workouts on his Strava account, including a solo 62:12 half marathon time trial. What both we, and he didn’t know when he ran that was he would then get a spot onto the line of what is being billed as the greatest marathon of all time, the London Marathon happening October 4th with a select small field including the much talked about battle of the best, Bekele vs. Kipchoge. Yes, Cam will be able to qualify for an Olympic spot in this race, but with his training, experience and goals, that becomes a smaller sub plot, as we’ll watch to see just what Cam is truly capable of on that day.

Calgary's Trevor Hofbauer joins the CITIUS MAG Podcast just days after locking up his automatic berth for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo by finishing as the top Canadian man at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon. It marked the second Canadian marathon title in three years for Hofbauer as he upset Canadian record holder Cam Levins (3rd place, 2:15:01). Last year, Levins broke the Canadian record in Toronto in 2:09:25 and two years ago, Hofbauer celebrated into the finish line chute when he won in 2:18:05. This time around, he didn't celebrate until he made the final turn and saw the clock before the finish. He managed to lower his personal best from 2:16:48 in April's Hamburg Marathon to 2:09:51. After his race, he tweeted: "There’s a guy that lives in Calgary, trains solo except on LR Sunday’s with the guys, trains based off of feel, isn’t dictated by numbers, doesn’t care about likes and follows, and he’s a 2:09 guy. KEEP SHOWING UP" On Tuesday, he published a blog titled "Keep Showing Up" where he detailed the six-year journey to get to this point. We run through the blog post, which you can read here: https://trevorhofbauer.com/2019/10/22/keep-showing-up/ All of that and more in this episode of the show.

2018 has been a bit of a banner year for us around here at the Terminal Mile. If you’ll indulge us for a second, this year saw us grow our audience by nearly 10,000 listens over the space of the year, I was there and got to participate in 3 national championships, we launched the Terminal Mile Cup, a distance medley relay event that saw some good friends of the show race for some trophies, we put our Something In The Water series, a look at the Speed River and University of Guelph teams, to air via the very exciting Citius Mag, and we celebrated episode 100. All this while covering the here and now of Canadian distance running, Cam Levins with the Canadian marathon record, Rachel Cliff with the half marathon record and an incredible debut in Berlin, Matt Hughes really returning to form in the Steeplechase, and countless other incredible accomplishments.
