New provisional data from EirGrid, the operator and developer of Ireland's electricity grid, shows that 49% of electricity came from renewable sources in March. This is similar to the previous month of February, when 48% of energy was generated by renewable sources. Contributing 40% of the overall fuel mix in March, wind energy made up a significant proportion of renewable energy. Total generation of wind amounted to 1,258 GWh (Gigawatt hours). The overall electricity system demand?stood at?3142?GWh in March,?compared to 3027GWh?in February. While not summer yet, spring sunshine and a growth in solar power connected to Ireland's grid (grid-scale solar farms) resulted in a number of solar records on the power system in March, and this trend is anticipated to continue over the coming months. On 21 March, a new peak for grid-scale solar was achieved, contributing 983.46MW to Ireland's electricity mix. This comes close to 1GW (1000 MW), which is enough to power roughly 500,000 customers. This follows a record of 979 MW hit on 19 March and 950 MW reached on 6 March. These figures relate to grid-scale solar, from larger solar farms, and do not account for rooftop solar on homes and businesses, known as embedded solar. With rooftop (embedded) solar accounted for, EirGrid has observed significant changes in electricity requirements from the National Control Centre. On sunny days, demand during the day for electricity from large electricity generators has declined, as many homes, businesses and farms are powering themselves with embedded solar. When compared to the previous Thursday (12 March), demand in the early afternoon of Thursday 19 March was significantly less, with a difference of 974 MW. This can largely be explained by the amount of embedded solar available, given the better weather on that day, compared to 12 March. EirGrid is observing days where demand is lower in the early afternoon than at night. Again, the amount of embedded solar can significantly account for this. EirGrid's National Control Centre carries out the complex task of balancing the supply of solar energy alongside conventional generation sources and other renewable resources such as wind power to ensure that demand can be met. Charlie McGee, EirGrid's System Operational Manager, said: "While solar power is currently a relatively small component of the overall fuel mix across a month, these record peaks demonstrate its ever-increasing importance as a source of renewable energy in Ireland as we work towards a more sustainable and renewable-ready electricity grid." "Looking in particular at the instantaneous power that grid-scale solar can provide, it can meet over 20% of demand at times. "It's also interesting to see how much of an impact rooftop solar is having on overall system demand. On brighter days, less of Ireland's electricity needs are now served by large-scale grid-connected generation. This is helping to further reduce our reliance on non-renewable sources of electricity." If the early days of 2026 are any indication, the year ahead might be one for the history books in Canadian road running. This past weekend saw the fall of not one, but two national records in two of the most hotly-contested distances, the 10K and the half-marathon. Within the span of just a few hours, the duo of Kieran Lumb and Rory Linkletter lowered the all-time best marks at the 10K and half, breaking new ground for Canadian distance running by eclipsing the elusive 28-minute and 1-hour marks, respectively. After a mid-season coaching change in 2025 to begin working with Gjert Ingebrigtsen–the estranged father and former coach of multi-time Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen–Lumb's pivot and subsequent move to a new training base in Europe paid off on Sunday morning in Valencia, Spain. His mark of 27 minutes and 50 seconds over 10K made him the first Canadian to dip under 28 minutes on the roads, eclipsing Charles Philibert-Thiboutot's 2025 mark of 28:10.Mere hours later, in Houston, Texas, Linkletter continued the momentum of a career-defining 2025 season by reclaiming the Canadian half-marathon record with a 59:49 clocking, besting Cam Levins's mark by nearly 30 seconds and becoming the first Canadian man to break the one-hour barrier.Lumb and Linkletter join this week's episode of The Shakeout Podcast to recap their record-breaking weekend and to set the tone for a year of action in Canadian running that is off to an historic start.Subscribe to The Shakeout Podcast feed on Apple, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you find your podcasts.Check out @Kieran.M.Lumb & @Rory_Linkletter on Social MediaHuge thank you to this week's sponsor Smartwool. BUY GOLD HERE: https://firstnationalbullion.com/schedule-consult/ Avoid CBDCs and work with Mark Gonzales! HELP SUPPORT US AS WE DOCUMENT HISTORY HERE: https://gogetfunding.com/help-keep-wam-alive/# Josh Sigurdson talks with Mark Gonzales about the historic rise of silver as it nears $80 an ounce, sitting around $79.50. It is now worth more than a barrel of oil. So, why is silver breaking out like it is? We are seeing an unprecedented move towards purchasing silver and gold both. Many of the largest silver dealers are out of stock! Banks are trying to short silver and failing miserably. There is 300 to 1 paper to metal right now. The scarcity versus the demand is historic as it is playing catch up with gold. We are witnessing a banking crisis where many of the major banks have less than 1% cash to deposit ratio. Their derivative exposures are sky high. Basel 3 which was signed onto by 63 central banks a year ago allows banks to bail in your money. The FDIC has acknowledged for 3 years that they're bankrupt and unable to actually cover any significant loss. Inflation is through the roof despite many in government claiming otherwise. People feel it at the grocery store. Meanwhile, a massive digital infrastructure is being built with digital IDs and the global economic system is moving cashless with CBDCs (Central Bank Digital Currencies). With all of the other chaos happening in the world, the inevitable shift by millions of people to protect themselves is clearly happening, and fast. Many that have been sitting on their hands when it comes to silver and gold, back when silver was 30 or 40 dollars an ounce are feeling the pain now and rushing in. Many say it's time to sell, however this is a blind move. A fool's game. When you zoom out on a timeline of several years, you can imagine the dollar continuing to lose value and the wealth insurance known as gold and silver continuing to grow in value as a result. Will it hit $100 in 2026? Almost definitely. Will it hit $200 in 2026? While we obviously cannot make predictions on price and dates like this, it doesn't seem unlikely at all. This signifies the economic shift we are witnessing. People will either take cover or continue to sit around and "wait to see what happens" until there's no escape. Stay tuned for more from WAM! We have got used to poor displays and bad results over the past few years, but this one sticks out as one of the most disappointing. A dreadful performance away to Leicester in the Slater Cup saw Gloucester comprehensively beaten. The same old excuses trotted out once again and compounded by more injuries. The response online and among supporters has become almost resigned apathy, we do our best to run through the game and how we feel about the whole situation. Meanwhile the Glos-Hartpury girls continue to be a shining beacon of hope as they continue to break records with their 18th consecutive league victory. Finally, we do look ahead with hope and positivity after Gloucester announced the signings of Dewi Lake, Jac Morgan and Dan Robson.Ed PriceRuss BrookesWe are proud to be sponsored by PGT LLP.Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Jim Thorne, economist and chief market strategist at Wellington-Altus Private Wealth, says the target he was setting for the stock market entering 2025 holds, and that means 7,000 on the Standard & Poor's 500 "is doable this year, and I think we will rally nicely into the mid-term elections." Thorne believes the economy can avoid a recession, which will slowly help to turn the soft data as consumers and investors regain confidence, which — coupled with interest rate cuts which he says are overdue — will keep the United States markets not only moving up but the best place to invest in the world. John Cole Scott, president of Closed-End Fund Advisors, looks at two mainstream media articles that named "the best closed-end funds" and digs into the data to compare those picks to his own — made on previous appearances on The NAVigator — to see how well the one-size-fits-all advice actually suits investors. It's a lesson in evaluating funds, but also on sizing up the sources of investment recommendations. Plus, Mark Hamrick, senior economic analyst at BankRate.com discusses the site's latest survey on home affordability and homeowner regrets, which not only showed that Americans are struggling in many cases to buy homes, but they often regret how much they paid and the costs of maintenance once they get one.
