Colic, eczema, tantrums, sensory issues—these aren't just “phases.” They could be symptoms of something deeper: mold toxicity. In this episode of Medical Disruptors, Dr. E and pediatric functional medicine expert Dr. Pejman Kati'e (Dr. K) expose how biotoxins are wrecking kids' health—triggering gut issues, immune dysfunction, and neuroinflammation that can look like autism, anxiety, or learning delays. Most pediatricians miss it. Dr. K didn't. If you've been told “everything's normal,” but your child is still struggling—this could be the missing piece.

Parenting is an unpredictable rollercoaster, and few understand this better than our guest, stand-up comic and twin dad, Zac Lee. Picture the whirlwind of raising Irish triplets, with an eldest daughter swiftly followed by twin daughters, all while navigating life between Texas and Ireland. Zach's journey is filled with humour and heart as he balances his comedic pursuits with the everyday chaos of fatherhood, sprinkled with life lessons from his Republican upbringing and advocacy for Palestine. Ever tried to soothe a colicky baby at 3 AM? It's not for the faint-hearted, and in this episode, we unpack the emotional storm that is colic. We share personal battles with sleepless nights and the strain it places on relationships, while also exploring viable solutions like probiotics. From the struggles of managing a household teeming with young ones to digesting the complexities of modern parenting, this conversation is as grounding as it is enlightening, with a sprinkling of laughter to ease the tension. Fatherhood is evolving, and we're here to break the mould. Zac and Afif explore the shifting dynamics of parental roles, challenging stereotypes of the disciplinarian father and nurturing mother. With stories from the stand-up stage to the dinner table, we paint a picture of fatherhood that defies convention, sharing tales of cultural misunderstandings and comedic misadventures. Whether it's bonding over sports or embracing unique parenting styles, this episode sheds light on the nuanced reality of being a dad today, underscored by a comedic perspective that reminds us to laugh at life's unpredictability. As a parent, long days may seem all too frequent, leaving you feeling exhausted. White noise for babies can be just what you need to help your little one get shut-eye and give you some relief. The consistent sound of white noise for sleeping soothes your baby by covering up outside distractions that may keep your child awake. The soothing hum baby white noise also mimics the sounds they heard in the womb, immersing them in comfort and familiarity. When your baby is comfortable, it makes it that much easier for them to fall asleep! Not to mention, you may love the white noise sound too! Many parents often tell us they feel tired from baby sleep sounds after their child falls asleep to them. When your baby sleeps at night, you will too! So next time your little one struggles to get rest, turn on Relaxing White Noise! Good night! While playing white noise for babies, it's important to keep tabs on the volume, because any white noise machine, smartphone, or computer can put out levels that are too loud for your child. It's recommended to play the sound at least a few feet from where your infant is sleeping and to keep the volume no louder than the sound of a soft shower. Parents can download an app to turn their smartphone into a sound level meter. One good, free, option is the sound level meter app created by the U.S. National Institutes for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) available on the app store as the NIOSH SLM app. Here are some great products to help you sleep! About one in five babies will experience colic, which means they may cry for three hours a day, at least three times a week, for about three weeks, even when they are perfectly healthy. With time, it goes away on its own but it's important for families to get support while they're caring for a colicky baby. Host Jessica Stewart-Gonzalez talks about the challenges of colic and the importance of support networks with Adrienne Brotherton, a Birth to Five Helpline Specialist at Southwest Human Development. Host:Jessica Stewart-Gonzalez is the Chief of the Office of Children's Health at the Arizona Department of Health Services. She is married, has two young children, and loves reading (anything except parenting books!) and watching movies and TV. She enjoys spending time with her kids (when they aren't driving her crazy) and celebrating all of their little, and big, accomplishments. Jessica has been in the field of family and child development for over 20 years, focused on normalizing the hard work of parenting and making it easier to ask the hard questions.Links: Strong Families AZHost: Jessica Stewart-GonzalezGuest: Adrienne BrothertonThe Birth to Five HelplineSouthwest Human Development: Fussy Baby program

We're continuing Supervision September with a look into the future of supervision: Remotely supervising others from the comfort of your own home. Or, at least, it seemed like a futuristic skill five or six years ago. But even though we're all comfortable with Zoom-ing into an appointment, does that make us capable of effectively supervising staff and trainees using the same modalities? We look at some of the common barriers encountered in remote supervision work, some solutions to overcome them, and some tips for how to bring everything together to create meaningful and effective supervision activities. I'll never forget the moment my midwife first mentioned CBD to me. I was six months pregnant, eagerly anticipating the arrival of my fourth baby, but I couldn't shake the anxiety about the postpartum period. My previous experiences had been marked by intense hormone swings, mood shifts, and an overwhelming sense of being lost in a fog. I was already grieving the time I knew I would miss with my three other children as I braced myself for the inevitable postpartum haze.I'm sharing this story with you because my introduction to CBD came from an unexpected place, and it ended up transforming my life in ways I never imagined. I want to break down the why and how of incorporating CBD into your life, so you'll leave with a clear understanding of how it works, how to use it effectively, and whether it's the right addition to your daily wellness routine. Thanks for listening! The title of this episode is You Will Never Fully Heal if You Don't Do This. Any guesses? Let me give you a hint: It has nothing to do with what you eat, the supplements you take, or even your genetics. It's not about the possible mold in your home or the level of stress in your life. So, what is it? It's something far more subtle yet incredibly powerful - your mindset. The way you think and what you believe about your ability to heal will make all the difference. It doesn't matter how many doctors have dismissed your concerns, how often your symptoms have been brushed off, or how many people have told you that you'll suffer for the rest of your life. Your mindset can either be your greatest ally or your biggest obstacle. Healing goes beyond simply following a regimen or taking the right supplements—it's about the energy and belief you bring into the process. Your thoughts and beliefs shape your reality, and when you truly believe in your ability to heal, you unlock the full potential of your body's natural healing powers.Links from the episode:Explore the Children's Gut Rebalance KitExplore the Women's Gut Rebalance KitExplore the Maintenance BundleExplore Balance CBDThanks for listening! So, you've just completed a gut rebalancing journey with my Women's or Children's Gut Rebalance Kits - congratulations! You've taken a beautiful step towards better health for you and your family. But there is something you need to know: gut health isn't a one-and-done deal. It's a lifelong relationship that needs care, attention, and yes, maintenance. How do you do this?Think of your gut like a garden. Depending on how many rebalances you needed to heal your symptoms, you have spent months planting seeds, watering them, and pulling out the weeds. Now, those seeds are sprouting into beautiful, healthy plants. But what happens if you stop watering them, if you let the weeds take over again? The garden's health will slowly decline, losing all the progress you made.Your gut microbiome works the same way. After the rebalancing phase, your gut is in a healthier state. The beneficial bacteria are thriving, and the harmful ones have been eliminated. But we are all chronically exposed to bad bacteria, pathogens, yeast, mold, heavy metals, fungus and parasites daily and if you don't work to intentionally maintain your balance, the imbalance can creep back in.In this episode I will teach you exactly what to do to maintain your microbiome balance. This is where the real magic happens. Where balance becomes your new natural state of existence and you thrive! On this episode, I am joined by Phil van Harreveld, DVM, MS, DACVS-LA, Senior Equine Professional Services Veterinarian with Merck Animal Health to discuss best practices for caring for horses with colic, as well as preventing infection in wounds near the joint area. Before joining Merck Animal Health, Dr. van Harreveld practiced as an equine veterinary surgeon for more than 22 years. He pioneered the first equine referral hospital in Vermont, which he founded and operated for over two decades. In addition to handling the hospital's field cases, he managed the in-house medical and surgical case load. He considers his favorite accomplishment to be the training of more than 18 veterinary interns with whom he still stays in contact and provides support on a regular basis. Dr. van Harreveld received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University, and his master's degree and surgical board certification from Kansas State University.
