From my guest this week's lips (when I asked her how she found the work she loves), "my gifts match".   I love this phrase so much, because it's a very simple way to align what you love with what you do.  When your gifts match how you live and the work you do, you shine.   There are so many more great tips and insights from my lovely guest, Dana Anderson.   When you're self aware and you focus on growing your emotional intelligence, matching your gifts to what you do becomes so much easier. No wonder why we're better at this when we're older - we have more experience!   For my younger audience, Dana says college is like a dress rehearsal for your work life.  Advocate for yourself early and often.  Get used to this. It's a lifelong skill you will need.   When something good happens, say thank you and I deserve this! It tells the universe you're ready for more.   And her advice for anyone searching for meaningful work and experiences? Resist less, chase less, attract more.   As far as truth and transparency when communicating with others - is it worth it? The short answer is yes. Every time. Because no matter what the outcome, it expands you and the other person!   For those of you thinking this is all easier said than done, of course it is.  Literally anything you can think of takes more effort to do than to say.   So get going!  You only have this one life!   Oh, and remember, there's more where that came from (the good stuff, I mean). (QuantumTechPod) Host Chris Bishop, today interviews Paul Lipman, President of Quantum Computing at ColdQuanta, where he leads the team "building the world's most useful quantum computer". Paul previously led multiple successful cybersecurity companies to exit as CEO and has extensive experience leading complex global organizations and transforming cultures, sales execution and innovation delivery. He has an MBA from Stanford's Graduate School of Business, and a BSc in Physics from the Victoria University of Manchester, England. Lipman shared, "Coming to ColdQuanta was a homecoming a return to my physics journey." Cold Quanta was founded in 2007 and is based on the 1924 Bose Condensate. Dr. Dana Anderson, the founder at U of Colorado Boulder founded ColdQuanta to commercialize the technology such as the quantum computer. Dr. Anderson was colleagues with Drs. Cornell and Wieman at the University of Boulder and collaborated on the use of cold atoms to make practical things. In 2007, Dr. Anderson co-founded ColdQuanta and became its CTO. Dr. Mark Saffman was one of Dana's students and, after moving to the University of Wisconsin, joined ColdQuanta as its Chief Scientist with a focus on the Cold Atom Quantum Computer. Many of CQ's scientists and engineers were students and colleagues of Drs. Anderson and Saffman. Lipman explained the name "Hilbert" for ColdQuanta' quantum computer. David Hilbert was a famous German mathematician and he invented the concept of infinite mathematical space named "Hilbert Space." So it is fitting to be naming a quantum computer after this mathematician. IQT hopes that our conversation with Paul Lipman will make this an interesting, informative and worthwhile talk for you.

Last week, the Committee of the Whole heard about the Clair-Maltby Secondary Plan Open Spaces Systems Strategy, staff's proposal for how parkland and open spaces will be mapped out in the development of Clair-Maltby. Just about anything Clair-Maltby related is controversial, especially the debate about parkland placement, so how did the members of city council navigate this minefield? The original plan for this week’s podcast was an interview with Mike Marcolongo, whose eponymous farm property has been a recurring point of concern in these deliberations, but he unfortunately had to postpone at the last minute. Instead, we will set the table for that future discussion with a kind of play-by-play of last week’s committee meeting, which was almost three-and-a-half hours long. Don't worry, this podcast is only about 90 minutes. The point of the report was to share with Committee where staff envisions the placement of trails, neighbourhood parks, and a 10-hectare community park in the Clair-Maltby area. The plan, Option #2, was controversial because the location of the community park would have taken a not-so-insignificant piece of the Marcolongo property. Committee eventually decided to go with Option #1, which places the park at the north end of the Marcolongo farm, so how did Committee reach this conclusion? This abridged version of Committee debate starts with the City of Guelph’s senior policy planner Stacey Laughlin, who will lay out the open spaces strategy. After that, you will then hear from a select group of delegates including Dana Anderson and Daniel Gur of Options for Homes, Mike Marcolongo, and Robin Lee-Norris who’s an agent for another property owner in Clair Maltby. After that, you will hear some of the questions asked of staff by members of council. So let's recap the debate from last week's Committee of the Whole on this edition of the Guelph Politicast! You can recap the whole meeting here on Guelph Politico. The final vote for the open spaces plan will be at the regular meeting of council on March 30, and the complete Clair-Maltby Secondary Plan will come back to council later this year. Clair-Maltby is hundreds of acres of mostly untouched greenspace in Guelph's south end. For some, it represents millions of dollars in potential real estate profit, and for others, it represents a chance to develop in an environmentally responsible way that avoids the natural instinct to sprawl. These ideals clashed before City Council this past Monday. The main sticking point in this most recent update on the Clair-Maltby Secondary Plan was the fact that the planned location of the community park had recently been moved from a location on land owned by Fusion Homes, to the property commonly known as the Marcolongo Farm. The Marcolongos are hoping to use a portion of the land for affordable housing, built by a non-profit developer, so it seemed odd to them that the park would be moved without advanced notice to the one site in Clair-Maltby where the point is to not make money. Many people in Guelph are already dubious about the intent for Clair-Maltby, and that staff and council seem poised to repeat the sprawling mistakes of the past, so the imposition of the community park on the Marcolongo Farm seemed to prove the point. And on top of that, there's the general concerns about the environment, sustainable building, the threat to wildlife, the threat to the unique geography of the Paris Galt Moraine, and the potential threat to Guelph’s drinking water supply. The issues were as numerous as the delegates at this past Monday's council meeting. So why not hear from them directly? On this unique entry in the podcast, you will be taken into the City Council Planning Meeting from May 13. The excerpts for this episode comes from the public delegation portion of the evening, and the debate about the amended motion brought forward by Ward 6 Councillor Dominique O'Rourke asking staff to look again at options for the community park.  The speakers list for the evening included Mike Marcolongo and his mother Assunta Uffer-Marcolongo (pictured above), Daniel Ger and Heather Tremain of Options for Homes, Dana Anderson of MHBC Planning, Susan Watson, Morgan Hannah, Carol Koenig of the Protect Our Moraine Coalition, former council candidate Matt Saunders, Julianna Van Adrichem, Dustin Brown of Extinction Rebellion Guelph, Hugh Handy of GSP Group, Cynthia Bragg, Dr. Hugh Whiteley, Kevin Guyan, and Joanne Moores. So let's head to the floor of the council chambers to hear the debate on this week's edition of the Guelph Politicast! You can stay up to date on all the latest developments concerning Clair-Maltby here. And if you found this kind of episode of the podcast useful, and if you’d like to hear more from the council chambers on key issues in future editions of the podcast, feel free to send your feedback or comment below.
