POPULARITY
Some love them. Some hate them. Those that feel the love appreciate the history, tone, feel, and inspiration these guitars embody. Those that feel the hate. Disapprove of the hype and blinded devotion to a flawed guitar design that reeks of terrible tuning stability, inferior quality control, headstock breakage, high price, and heavy weight. Of course these are a few examples of the extremes based on the guitars. Add in the sketchy corporate decisions that has led the company to bankruptcy more than once the acquisition of “non-guitar related businesses”, the lawsuits brought down on other popular brands, the campaign to “Play Authentic” and license the use of the guitars or else, and… ugh… the destruction of hundreds of firebird X guitars by an excavator… ya… they said they were “unfixable”... sure… But why do people love Gibson guitars? Does it count if it's an Epiphone? Is Custom Shop really that much better? How are the acoustics? Is the weight really a problem? What's a pancake body? Does more price really get you more guitar? How many do Jason and I own? Were the robot tuners really that bad? What is neck dive? Should a Gibson cost more than a Fender? And… Ted McCarty… the man that is still saving the company today. Well we will discuss this, and more on this group therapy session with Jason, on the Tweed Couch. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tweedcouch/support

One election message has been clear during the lead-up to the 2024 election: The majority of Americans are not happy with the choices presented to them. Both Donald Trump and President Biden hold consistently negative approval ratings with the American people, and the prospect of a 2020 rematch is not ginning up very much enthusiasm. So if there is a plan B for the upcoming election in 2024, what does that actually look like? And what is the uphill battle that needs to be fought for either candidate to step aside?

Our relationships with our kids are important to us. We raised them from little babies and have deep connections with them, but when those relationships crumble, it can be devastating. Let's answer some difficult questions about relationships with our kids and how we can navigate through them when our children disapprove of us and our decisions. Questions We Answer in this Episode: “My young teenager went to live with their dad because they were upset I initiated a divorce. Will I ever be able to be close to them again? “My ex is threatening to alienate my child. What do I do?” “My daughter cut me off from my grandchildren. What do you recommend I do?” “How do navigate relationships with my children when some support me and some don't, and they are pitted against each other?” Read the show notes and/or ask Natalie a question hereIf you are a Christian woman who thinks you may be in an emotionally destructive marriage, learn more at https://flyingfreenow.comI'll send you (free!) the first chapter of my book, Is It Me? It's Friday, December 23rd, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Radical Hindus severely injured Christians in India w/ bamboo sticks Christians in 20 villages in the Narayanpur and Kondagaon districts in the Chhattisgarh state of India were attacked this week by radical Hindu nationalists for refusing to re-convert from Christianity back to Hinduism, reports International Christian Concern. Hindu nationalists used bamboo sticks to attack Christians on Sunday, December 18, as Christians gathered for worship. Tragically, several people were severely injured and hospitalized, while others fled to the jungle or to nearby police stations. The attackers looted and destroyed the homes of many Christians and desecrated three churches. One witness said, “Small kids and women with their families were sitting in open places in biting cold, with no food or water, warming their hands with their breath.” India is the 10th worst country in the world for the persecution of Christians. Matthew 5:10 says, “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.” Church changes Christmas carol lyrics to recognize “queer” All Saints with Holy Trinity Church in Loughborough, Britain decided to take Jesus and the Nativity out of Christmas. Instead, the Bible-rejecting church promoted a message for the "queer and questioning," reports Summit News. Rachael Brind-Surch, the trainee priest, boasted of their outrageous alterations to the traditional "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" carol. Listen to the disturbing lyrics in the first verse of the altered hymn. "God rest you, queer and questioning, your anxious hearts be still, Believe that you are deeply known and part of God's good will. For all to live as one in peace the global dream fulfilled. O tidings of comfort and joy." Another revision from the misguided British church said, "God rest you also, women, who by men have been erased, Through history ignored and scorned, defiled and displaced; Remember that your stories too, are held within God's grace." The verses replaced the actual lyrics of the carol, which talk about the nativity and how Christ came to “save us all from Satan's power.” John 12:31 says, “Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.” 31 GOP Reps vow to block bills by GOP Senators who vote for Biden's $1.7 trillion spending bill Thirty-one House Republicans signed onto a letter Wednesday, vowing to block legislation from any GOP senator who dares to vote for Biden's massive $1.7 trillion omnibus spending package during the lame duck session, reports Breitbart. On Tuesday, 13 House Republicans signed a letter promising to block the legislative priorities of any Republican senator who votes for the omnibus deal with Democrats just days before Congress leaves town for Christmas. They wrote, “This 4,155-page bill spends $1.7 trillion to further empower the Biden administration's tyrannical attack on the liberty and security of our constituents, and it must be opposed with any fiber of political fortitude Senate Republicans still have. “It will add to our $31 trillion national debt, digging a deeper hole for our children and grandchildren to crawl out of. “As such, we reiterate that if any omnibus [bill] passes in the remaining days of this Congress, we will oppose and whip opposition to any legislative priority of those senators who vote for its passage – including the Republican leader. We will oppose any rule, any consent request, suspension voice vote, or roll call vote of any such Senate bill, and will otherwise do everything in our power to thwart even the smallest legislative and policy efforts of those senators.” Turning Point USA vs. the RNC's Ronna Romney McDaniel After three losing cycles, the grassroots want change at the Republican National Committee according to a new Turning Point Action poll. 78.4% DISAPPROVE of Ronna Romney McDaniel's job as Chair of the RNC, 84% want RNC members to listen to the grassroots, and Ronna has only 1.7% support. McDaniel is the niece of Republican in Name Only Senator Mitt Romney of Utah. Turning Point is supporting attorney Harmeet Dhillon who announced her candidacy on December 5th with the proclamation, “Republicans are tired of losing.” Dhillon won in a landslide in the Turning Point Action Poll. Appearing on Brian Kilmead's radio show, Ronna Romney McDaniel was upset, and attacked the largest conservative student organization in the country. ROMNEY McDANIEL: “I'm going to say something about Turning Point. They do great conferences. How many young voters did they register? How many youth voters turned out this cycle? How about the college kids in Arizona where they're headquartered? If you're going to hold the RNC accountable, start looking at these outside organizations and ask them what they did. And this is a group that's taken over the youth vote, they've taken over college campuses and they need to be held accountable. But this is Turning Point and Harmeet trying to take over the RNC.” In a series of five tweets, Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, responded to McDaniel by saying, “Turning Point logged more than 500,000 volunteer hours this election cycle. Turning Point Action directly contacted and engaged over 5 million voters. We hosted well over 100 major door-knocking events and rallies in target states and districts, recruited over 2,000 new precinct leaders, and registered tens of thousands of new voters. Instead of attacking the only youth organization in the country actually doing something, maybe you should be thankful we are doing the work.” Kari Lake legal team finds 42.5% of ballots examined were invalid And finally, Arizona Republican Gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake's legal team dropped a potential legal bomb on Wednesday, reports RedState.com. She tweeted, “48 of 113 ballots reviewed during our examination were 19-inch ballots produced on 20-inch paper. This one-inch discrepancy caused chaos on Election Day, causing the mass rejection of these votes as they were attempted to be read through the tabulators.” That means that 42.5% of the ballots examined were invalid. While the Democrat, Katie Hobbs, was declared the winner, she won by just 17,116 votes, a differential of seven-tenths of one percentage point, reports The National Review. Lake is hoping this review might lead to calling Hobbs' victory into question. Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Friday, December 23rd in the year of our Lord 2022. Should you marry someone your parents disapprove of? When you're "in love", you can often be blind to things in each other that outsiders can see. There's been some mixed electoral indicators - including the recent rise in President Biden's job approval rating and Democrats doing better in the generic ballot - that are making the 2022 elections more challenging to analyze. Henry Olsen, Senior Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and Washington Post columnist joins us to discuss why the Republicans are now being underrated, including through persistent and unaddressed biases in survey research, and what that means for the 2022 elections. “We should be very careful when we're looking at state-level polling,” says Olsen. Only 12% say the USA is going in the right direction. Biden approval at 36% in Monmouth poll. 58% Disapprove. A 22 point gap. 3) Radical liberal Democrats are frustrated with Biden on abortion even though he has very limited options on this subject. Likewise, even after signing a bipartisan bill, they are still not happy in the aftermath of Highland Park which had very tough gun laws. Biden administration sues Arizona over law requiring proof of citizenship to vote? This perfectly illustrates the gap between ordinary Americans who favor such laws and the political elite. Germany is on track to shut down 3 fully operating nuclear plants while Europe is having an energy crisis. The EU has requested they keep them open. Again the radical greens are in control in Germany. How stupid can they be? Oil prices fall below $100 as fears of recession take hold. Biden administration is considering raising ozone standards in Permian basin where we get 40% of our oil. He is either brain dead or deliberately committing political suicide.

Fifty-eight percent of Americans said they disapprove of Biden's performance, while only 41 percent approved. The same poll in December found that 49 percent of Americans approved and 51 percent disapproved of Biden. In the new survey, only 36 percent of independents and 9 percent of Republicans approved of the job Biden is doing. Eighty-three percent of Democrats still approve of Biden, but that's a drop from 94 percent from last summer. In a sign of how tough it could be to turn the tide, when those who disapproved of Biden were asked to name one thing that they approved of during his tenure, 56 percent could not come up with an answer. The survey is the latest in a string of polls showing Biden's approval plummeting. The administration has been hit with criticism from across the political spectrum over inflation, its handling of the coronavirus, foreign policy and more.It has responded by touting its infrastructure bill and deployment of vaccinations across the country, though those arguments have thus far failed to stop the backslide in Biden's poll numbers. The poor polling has caused Democrats to sound the alarm over the November midterm elections, warning that such low approval ratings could lead to Republicans flipping both chambers of Congress. The concern is put in particularly sharp relief when compared to the 2010 cycle, when a massive Republican wave helped the GOP flip more than 60 House seats and retake the chamber. In January 2010, Americans were roughly evenly split on how then-President Obama's first year in office went. Now, 57 percent of Americans said Biden's first year in office was a failure.CNN poll, conducted by SSRS, surveyed 1,527 adults from Jan. 10 to Feb. 6 digitally or by telephone with a live interviewer. It has a 3.3 percentage point margin of error.[Source: The Hillhttps://thehill.com/homenews/administration/593712-nearly-60-percent-of-americans-disapprove-of-bidens-job-performance]

My latest podcast episode names something many of us do rather unconsciously: we threaten and dole out disapproval. Disapproval and withholding our approval till someone has complied with our demands are behaviors so baked into our families and cultures that it's downright shocking to see their pervasiveness, when it's pointed out. It sounds violent to be so disapproving, and it seems to run counter to our values... And it is and it does! Yet you may still be doing it a lot. I know I have done it a lot. So we need to talk about disapproval and what it does to relationships: with our partners, with our kids, with ourselves, and with those who live in different spots on the political spectrum than we do. As you listen to this episode, you'll hear about:The “secret” of creating more of what we desire in love and sexHow to unlock tremendous capacities for effecting changeWhy using disapproval to motivate your partner or kids just won't work The 6 most important things to edit out of your communication How adding one “secret society' tip sets you up for a winAnd more. Smarter Politics is officially back for Season 2! In this episode, we discuss the extraordinary 2018 election in Colorado, and what it means moving forward to 2019 and 2020. We are glad you are back with us! Re-Introduction What have we been doing? Where has Magellan been? Why was the 2018 General Election Extraordinary? It was extraordinary because never has one political party, been so overwhelmingly rejected at every level of government by the voting electorate. Both Democratic and unaffiliated voters, participated at a level that has never happened before. For the first time ever in a Colorado mid-term election, unaffiliated voter turnout (918,091) and Democratic voter turnout (847,338) was higher than Republican turnout (810,143), and by a significant margin. By percentage of total vote, unaffiliated made up 35%, Democrats made up 33% and Republicans made up 32% of the total vote. As a comparison, in the 2014 mid-term election, Republican voter turnout was 774,923, Democratic voter turnout was 664,532 and unaffiliated voter turnout was 634,296. Comparing the 2018 midterm election to the 2014 midterm election, 502,209 more votes were cast in 2018 verses 2014. Of those 502,209 votes, 57% were registered as unaffiliated, 36% were Democratic and ONLY 7% were Republican. 2018 Voter Turnout Observations Republicans DID turn out to vote with a 3% increase from 2014. 2014=68% 2018=71% Voter enthusiasm was overwhelming among Democratic and unaffiliated voters. Among registered Democratic voters in 2018, 71% turned out to vote compared to just 59% in 2014, a 12-point increase. Unaffiliated voters increased their percentage of voter turnout by 14-points, from 46% in 2014 to 60% in 2018. From January 1 of 2018 to Election Day, 206,289 voters registered in Colorado. Of those that registered, 53% registered as unaffiliated, 27% registered as Democrat and 18% registered as Republican. A net gain of 18,474 Democratic voters to Republican voters. Of the 206,289 voters that registered 60% were 18-34 years old. Post-Election Survey of Unaffiliated Voters The Democrat Party has a net positive image rating among unaffiliated voters. 45% Favorable, 31% Unfavorable The Republican Party has a net negative image rating. 25% Favorable, 53% Unfavorable Donald Trump had a negative impact on all Republican candidates in Colorado, with 34% of unaffiliated voters saying they were less likely to vote for a Republican candidate because of his influence. President Trump’s job approval among unaffiliated voters was/is toxic. 31% Approve, 62% Disapprove (48% Strongly Disapprove) 2018 Governor Race Governor Polis – 53% (1,348,888) vs. Walker Stapleton - 43% (1,080,801) What happened? Why did Colorado Lose the State Senate? District 16 – Senator Neville (Tammy Story) Story - 56%, Neville - 41%, Gilman - 3% (Difference 12,249 votes) State Senate District 16 went from a R+5 district in the 2014 midterm to a D+2 district in 2018. However, unaffiliated turnout increased by 5% going from 33% in 2014 to 38% in 2018. 2014= Dem 31%, Rep 36%, Unaf 33% 2018= Dem 32%, Rep 30%, Unaf 38% (D+1, R-6, U+5) District 20 – Christine Jensen/Jessie Danielson Danielson - 54%, Jensen - 42%, Messick - 4% (Difference 10,872 votes) State Senate District 20 went from a R+4 district in the 2014 midterm to a D+3 district in 2018. Unaffiliated turnout increased by 7% going from 32% in 2014 to 39% in 2018. Those 7 points came directly from Republicans, with Republicans decreasing by 7%. 2014= Dem 32%, Rep 36%, Unaf 32% 2018= Dem 32%, Rep 29%, Unaf 39% (D0, R-7, U+7) District 22 – Tony Sanchez/Brittany Pettersen Pettersen - 58%, Sanchez - 42% (Difference 11,993 votes) State Senate District 22 went from a R+2 district in the 2014 midterm to a D+5 district in 2018. Just like in SD16, unaffiliated turnout increased by 5% going from 32% in 2014 to 37% in 2018. 2014= Dem 33%, Rep 35%, Unaf 32% 2018= Dem 34%, Rep 29%, Unaf 37% (D+1, R-6, U+5) District 24 – Senator Beth Martinez Humenik/Faith Winter Winter - 52%, Martinez Humenik - 40%, Matkowsky - 5%, Osborn – 3% (Difference 8,510 votes) State Senate District 24 went from being an even district in the 2014 midterm to a D+6 district in 2018. Unaffiliated turnout increased by 4% going from 34% in 2014 to 38% in 2018. 2014= Dem 33%, Rep 33%, Unaf 34% 2018= Dem 34%, Rep 28%, Unaf 38% (D+1, R-5, U+4) Looking Ahead to the 2019 General Election and Beyond Will turnout in an odd-year election have an increase in Democratic and unaffiliated voters? There will most likely be something on the ballot that intends to weaken TABOR in 2019, knowing the turnout demographics and the results of 2018, what do you think will happen with TABOR? Leading into next week, with the democrats having full control, was there an overreach in legislation from the state legislature this year?

In times of political turmoil and rhetorical strife, commentators sometimes wheel out this old "quote" by the French philosopher and Enlightenment writer, Voltaire: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." They do this in an attempt to calm things down, but also to support the principle of freedom of speech. Voltaire was indeed a champion of free speech and free-flowing political discourse. But did he actually write or say: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?
