"Door-in-the-face" is one of the most common techniques for implementing the Law of Contrast. An initially large and almost unreasonable request is made, likely to be declined—hence the "door slammed-in-the-face" as the prospect rejects the proposal.  Then a second smaller and more reasonable request is made.  People accept the second request more readily than if they'd just been asked outright because the contrast between the two requests makes the second one seems so much better. 1. D23, the annual Disney Fan Expo, will take place later this year at the Anaheim Convention Center – the same location as Star Wars Celebration a few weeks ago. The event features experiences, exclusive merch and inside looks at all things Disney – which of course includes the Star Wars franchise. On Saturday September 10th, D23 will feature a panel that includes both Marvel and Lucasfilm. The official announcement states QUOTE “Filmmakers, celebrity talent, and surprise guests will join representatives from Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, among others, onstage to showcase theatrical and Disney+ titles. Going behind the scenes of these studios' highly anticipated films, specials, and series, attendees will see exclusive footage and be among the first to learn what else is in the works.” While there is no specific mention of what will be shown, D23 has, in the past, been the place where projects such as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series have been announced. D23 takes place September 9th through the 11th2. YouTube channel DisInsider dropped some rumored news this week regarding the upcoming Disney plus Star Wars series Acolyte. Derek Cornell of the site claims that some Star Wars Legends characters could be introduced into live action on the Leslye Hedland helmed show. He claims that Darth Bane, Malak, Revan and Nihilus could make an appearance in the yet to shot series. He also claimed that the DisneyLand and DisneyWorld Galaxy's Edge Location – the Planet Batuu – could be making an appearance in an upcoming show as well. He speculated it could be the newly announced Skeleton Crew or the Ahsoka series. There are no official Lucasfilm statements on any of these rumors at this time.3. The cast of the Mandalorian spoke to Entertainment Tonight this week and they gave some indication that the third season of the show will be expanding the universe as well as taking on a more dramatic tone. Carl Weathers, who plays Greef Karga and is also directing an episode in season 3, said “it has a lot more heft, it's so dense but full of character. [The new episodes] had a lot more opportunity for depth. Each of these characters has so much story within their own personal story. As an audience, you get to see just little glimmers of things that we didn't realize about them.” Katee Sackoff, aka Bo Katan said, ““She's not done. [Bo-Katan refusing the darksaber] makes us question, it makes her question, ‘What's different? Why not now?' And that's important. She's still on that journey, you know, from the first time that we met her when she was very young and impressionable. The marketing campaign for the Obi-Wan Kenobi show continued this week with another edition of Obi-Wan Wednesdays. Each week from now through June 29, Star Wars dot com will feature new products inspired by the DisneyPlus series. This week, they unveiled a funko pop of Tala Durith, the Imperial officer turned Jedi trafficker. Hasbro dropped 5 new Retro series 3 point 7 5 inch action figures designed to capture the style of the original 70s and 80s toys. They include Obi-Wan, the droid Ned B, the Grand Inquisitor, Darth Vader and the Fifth  brother. Lego ALSO unveiled a new playset that recreates the duel between Vader and Obi-Wan on Mapuzo from Part 3 of the series. It includes minifigs of Kenobi, Vader, Ned B and Tala. Obi-Wan Kenobi series writer Joby Harold spoke to the Hollywood Reporter earlier this week and he shared some insight to Moses Ingram's character, the third sister, aka Reva. He told THR QUOTE: “I love that Reva is this mystery box, so I try to speak to her as little as possible, and I'm going to keep it that way. But the notion of having a character that we don't know on a legacy show where we do know everything and everybody is part of the fun of the show. This past week Director Debora Chow and stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christense and Moses Ingram were seen in Berlin and London. In talking about her character, an Imperial Inquisitor named Reva, Moses Ingram said QUOTE “She is ruthless. She doesn't care about what people think about the way she does things. She'll cut people down and get the job done whatever it takes.” The actress went on to say about her costars, “even on set there were lifelong fans who would just get so moved by being around Ewan or Hayden. I think it's going to be a big deal for fans to see them at the center.” There have been no new nuggets of information about the story shared so far on the press tour but Ewan did say that it took him some time to get back to the Alec Guiness style of speaking for the title role. Obi-Wan Kenobi debuts on Disney plus on Friday, May 27th with the first two episodes of the six-part series.2.Video game industry insider Jeff Grubb said on a recent Grubbsnax stream that the title for the sequel to the wildly popular Jedi: Fallen Order game will be Jedi: Survivor. Grub has also said in previous scoops that gameplay footage from the sequel to the EA RESPAWN game would be shared at Star Wars Celebration later this month. The video game reporter also claims that Jedi: Survivor will be a next-gen console game only. There is no release date or confirmation of the title at this time.3.Keeping with video game news, Lego, the Skywalker Saga continues to make waves in the industry. According to the website GamesBeat, the brick-based Star Wars game is already ranked as the number two selling video game of 2022 so far ahead of the latest Pokemon offering and the epic Horizon Zero Dawn sequel trailing only Elden Ring in sales. 4.Bryce Dallas Howard was interviewed by friend of the podcast, Germain Lussier at io9 recently and of course the topic of Star Wars came up. The daughter of Solo 2 director Ron Howard, has been behind the camera for two episodes of the Mandalorian and the Book of Boba Fett episode titled “Return of the Mandalorian.” When asked if there was a story that would spark her interest in direting a Star Wars film she said quote “Oh my goodness, I think it would take someone asking me.” Bryce will next be seen ON screen reprising her role as Claire Dearing for the third time when Jurassic World Dominion hits theaters June 10th.5.Speaking of directors on Disney Plus Star Wars shows, this week, in a simple photo of a an Ahsoka-logo emblazoned directors chair and a signature cowboy hat belonging to one Dave Filoni, the official star wars twitter account revealed that production has officially begun on the Ahsoka live-action series. Shortly thereafter, rumors emerged from movie scooper Daniel RPK and Adam Frazier that actor Mathew Law has been brought on to the show in a quote “big role.” The Six-foot one Law is best known for a role in four episodes of Agents of Shield. This unconfirmed casting joins other rumored actors including Natasha Loo Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, and Mary Elizabeth Winsted, Ivanna Sahkno (SOK-NO) and Ray Stevenson in unidentified roles. The Ahsoka series does not yet have an official release date.6.Michael Waldron, the writer who worked on Loki and Doctor Strange among other Marvel projects, is finally turning his attention to the long rumored Kevin Feige Star Wars film. He told Variety QUOTE ““We're finally into it in earnest. I mean, I'm writing away. It's a lot of fun…It just doesn't have a bunch of TV shows and movies that you're servicing on top of it, the way I did with Doctor Strange. So it's nice..” The Feige film was first mentioned in 2019 and is expected to be a one-off project. There is no title or release date from Lucasfilm for the movie at this time.7.In Star Wars book news, friend of the show Mike Chen is officially a Star Wars novelist. His new book hit shelves on May 10 called Brotherhood and it chronicles events at the start of the Clone Wars and features the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Included in the book are familiar characters Padme Amidala and Asajj Ventress. You can buy the book now at the link in the show notes from Amazon. 8.Also this week, the cover for Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrel was revealed featuring Han Solo and Leia Organa in a romantic pose with the Halcyon Starcruiser and the ewok village on Endor in opposing corners. But trouble lurks in the form of stormtroopers charging in at the edge of the artwork. The trailer was 90 seconds and featured a tense moment between Obi-Wan and Uncle Owen Lars, more action scenes between the titular character and various badguys while the voiceover hinted at bounty hunters being employed along with the inquisitors to find the outlaw Jedi. The teaser gave us our first look at Kumail Nanjiani looking worried and wearing what could be Jedi robes. As the promo came to an end, fans witness a robotic arm being attached to what is presumed to be Darth Vader followed by his chest box being attached, lighting up and then culminating in hearing the Dark Lord of the Sith's signature breathing sound. The six-part limited series drops on Disney plus with two episodes on Friday, May 27th.2.In addition to the Kenobi trailer, a 60 minute behind the scenes documentary lauched on Disney-Plus called Disney Gallery – The Book of Boba Fett. The show gives in-depth background and behind the scenes footage of the series including interviews with all the actors, directors and producers. Included in the documentary is more insight into how they were able to create a digital double of Luke Skywalker using a stand-in and the original actor, Mark Hamill, himself. Disney Gallery – Book of Boba Fett is available now on Disney Plus.3.Technology giant, Apple, dropped a 15 minute behind the scenes documentary themselves on their youtube channel called Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound. The black and white stylized mini-movie gives fans a look at the creation and application of sound effects to Star Wars films (with peeks at other Disney properties) created at the groundbreaking sound studio. Of note is the particular focus on sounds from the Prequel series of films. This is not surprising however, as the new Kenobi series will most certainly have direct ties to this era. You can find this documentary short on YouTube now or in the links below.4.May the Fourth was also a day for more toy reveals from Star Wars licensee Hasbro. From the 3.75” line of action figures, look for Ahsoka Clone Troopers, Padawan Anakin, Mandalorian Super Commando, Heavy Assault Stormtrooper, Stormtrooper Commander, a Phase I clone trooper 4 pack and a Retro collection multipack featuring characters from A New Hope. From the Black Series 6-inch line, Hasbro announced an Endor Leia, Figrin D'An from the Cantina band, and New Republic Security Droid as seen in the Mandalorian. From lifesized movie props, they are making Obi-Wan Kenobi's light saber available for the first time as an FX Elite offering and an updated version of Darth Vader's helmet with electronic sounds and film correct red lenses. All these products are available now for pre-order at various outlets.5.At the Imperial Commissary Collectors Convention last week, Ian McDiarmid, the actor who played Emperor Palpatine SLASH Darth Sidious hinted that he may have some role in some of the upcoming Disney Plus Star Wars properties. On a panel he was on he said QUOTE “There's a certain show coming soon set right around the time I may have been considered to be very active. Whether or not you will see my physical body, I cannot comment on. But you will certainly feel my presence.” There was no indication which specific upcoming series he may be a part of, but the. Kenobi series will feature Darth Vader and the Andor series takes place in the early days of the fledgling Rebellion.6.As Star Wars Celebration looms less than three weeks away, information about events happening at the event in Anaheim continues to come out. On May the Fourth a opanel called Light & Magic was announced for the Friday of the four-day weekend event. The Star Wars Celebration twitter account announced QUOTE “Be among the first in the world to get a sneak peek at the recently announced Disney plus documentary series “Light and Magic.” The panel will feature Lawrence Kasdan, Ron Howard, Dennis Muren, Phil Tippett, Joe Johnson and Rose Duigan. There is no official word on whether it will drop all at once or weekly. Clocking in at just over 100 seconds, the preview features classic Star Wars music including the famous Duel of the Fates and Battle of Heroes tracks from both The Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith. The teaser shows the titular character living a solitary life on Tatooine, and opens with him saying “The Fight is Done. We lost.” It cuts to a scene of Kenobi watching a young Luke Skywalker from afar and whispering “stay hidden.” The rest of the voiceover features the Grand Inquisitor, a Jedi Hunter who was introduced in the Rebels animated series saying things like “The Key to hunting Jedi is patience. Jedi cannot help what they are. Their compassion leaves a trail. The Jedi code is like an itch. He cannot help it.” Along with glimpses of other inquisitors, both new and those seen in Rebels, viewers also see Uncle Owen who is being reprised by Joel Edgerton who played him in both Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith . The tag line that displays on screen in Prequel-era font reads “Between darkness and defeat, hope survives.” 2.Before the trailer dropped, Entertainment Weekly released a handful of photos and an article featuring shots from the upcoming Kenobi show. And on Thursday they released an image of the return of Darth Vader – played once again by Hayden Christensen. When the magazine asked Hayden for more details on his presence on the show he said QUOTE “I wish I could tell you. I'm sworn to secrecy.” However he did add “we're going to see a powerful vader.” EW also talked to the show's writer, Joby Harold, who said, QUOTE “Vader's shadow is cast across so much of what we do and the degree of his proximity to that shadow is something that we'll discover. But, he is very much a part of the show emotionally for Obi-Wan and possibly beyond as well.” A video was also released where Kenobi lead Ewan McGregor said being on set with Hayden as Anakin made him feel like QUOTE “The period between episode 3 and now didn't exist.” He also told the story of walking out onto the stage for screen tests with other actors on an off day for the Mandalorian that the weight of playing Obi-Wan again struck him.The limited streaming series starts May 25 only on Disney plus.3.Fans looking to go to Star Wars Celebration but were unable to score tickets in 2019 when they first went on sale will be given another chance on March 15 when additional tickets will be released at 9am pacific, noon eastern. Social media posts that featured new star wars celebration artwork also posted that current COVID guidelines will include proof of vaccination and masks at to enter the event. Star Wars Celebration takes place in Anaheim California from May 26 to the 29th. 4.The Book of Boba Fett continues to perform according to The Wrap and Parrot Analytics. For the week of February 19-25, the Disney plus show was the number one show in demand above HBO's Peacemaker, Paramount's 1883 and Amazon's Legend of Vox Machina.5.More information dropped this week on the upcoming Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga video game as the publicity continues to build. According to Assistant Game Director, Dewi Roberts, “one of the big things we wanted to focus on when we started this game was freedom. We wanted to blur the line between levels and open world exploration as much as possible.” The game has been riddled with delays and remains one of the most anticipated games by Star Wars and lego game fans since its originally announced release of early 2020. However, the game has gone gold – meaning it is ready to ship – and will be available across all major gaming platgorms on April 5.6.The Kiner brothers – the team that created music for the Clone Wars, Rebels and most recently The Bad Batch joined the Convor Call live stream on Thursday. They spilled some info on the upcoming second season of the Bad Batch including that they've been working on the soundtrack since the end of Season 1. They shared that Omega will be a little older in Season 2, that there will be more characters and there is at least once scene on the galactic capital planet of Coruscant. While giving out information on the upcoming Bad Batch seson they also said they are working on a new Star Wars animated show as well. While there has been no announcement of a new show, there has been job listings on Icon Creative Studio's website for an unannounced Lucasfilm animated show. The Bad Batch was announced earlier this year in Star Wars Insider to be coming out in Spring 2022, but that has since been removed.

There is a strange psychological phenomenon in regard to drawing conclusions.  If someone tells us exactly what to do, our tendency is to reject that forced choice.  Especially when we feel like it is our only option. The solution is to offer your prospects a few options so that they can make the choice for themselves.  People feel the need to have freedom and make their own decisions.  If forced to choose something against their will, they experience psychological resistance and feel a need to resist the decision. Review(s): Overlord, Darling in the Franxx Opening Song: Kiss of Death by Mika Nakashima & Hyde Closing Song: L.L.L. by MYTH&ROID So I posted a couple photos one from each of the shows I review this round and it made me wonder who would win in a battle royale between these two. I can honestly say that most of the characters from Overlord would probably wipe the floor with the characters from DitF even if we give them the option to pilot their mechs aka Franxx. Either case I'm sorry it has been too long since the last show but here it is and I am very excited. I apologize about the length but the notes really do help me get my thoughts together.

"Door-in-the-face" is one of the most common techniques for implementing the Law of Contrast. Basically, an initially large and almost unreasonable request is made, likely to be declined—hence the "door slammed-in-the-face" as the prospect rejects the proposal. Then a second smaller and more reasonable request is made. People accept the second request more readily than if they'd just been asked outright because the contrast between the two requests makes the second one seems so much better. The technique is effective because social standards state each concession must be exchanged with another concession. When you allow a rejection, it is considered a concession. The person you are persuading will then feel obligated to agree with your smaller request.  The reason DITF is so effective is because society and the Law of Obligation direct us that each concession must be given a concession.  When you give them a concession they will be more inclined to give you a concession. Demonstrating this point, researchers first asked college students to donate blood every two months for three consecutive years. Requiring a long-term commitment of not only time, but also of physical and emotional responsibility, the request was overwhelmingly turned down. The next day, the same students were asked to donate blood just one time, 49 percent agreed. The control group, where the students were only approached with the second request, (will you donate today) only demonstrated a 31 percent compliance rate. The main reason the door-in-the-face technique is so effective is because the contrast between the two requests makes your prospects feel like they are getting more/or less than if you didn’t adjust their perceptions. We know that contrasting two alternatives can distort or amplify our perceptions of price, time or effort. Generally, if the second item is quite different from the first, we will tend to see them even more differently than they actually are. As a Power Persuader, you can use this contrast to navigate your audience toward the object of your persuasion. The use of contrast is based on our perception of items or events that happen one right after the other. If you've had a rotten day because you found out you're losing your job and you come home to a new scratch on your car, you will have a different reaction than if you were having a great day because you're getting a promotion and then came home to the scratch on your car. It's the same scratch, but there are very different perceptions and reactions to it.  Contrast is used for negotiations.  When we offer a really low or high bid or when we ask for $200 and only expect $50. This is contrast. What if you thought it was a 60 minute meeting and then it only took 30 minutes.  What if that 15 minute meeting lasted 30 minutes? This is all about human perception. The human mind has to find a benchmark or comparison to make judgments, especially when we are talking about unfamiliar situations or new products. People need to make comparisons with their past experience and knowledge. The brain will always attempt to contrast your product or service. Is it the best or worst, cheapest or most expensive? Is your product the safe or risky choice or is it familiar or strange? By presenting your prospects with contrast, you are creating those comparisons for them. The mind can't process everything at once and so it develops shortcuts to help make decisions. Instead of making a completely internal judgment, we look for boundaries, patterns, and polar opposites. We want to know the difference between our options, so we naturally contrast the two items. We mentally create a value or price in our mind from highest to lowest. Do you want your prospects to compare your product or service to a second-hand used car or to a Rolls Royce? You get to decide where you want them to start their benchmark.   Adjusting Value Examples   Bonuses - 3 bonuses worth $25 each have more value than to get one bonus worth $75 Product – Having all your product arrive in one box has less value than receiving 3 separate shipments. Retail – Keeping the high prices at a grocery store increases the perception of value and savings when the savings is shown on the receipt Cars – We feel like we get a better deal on a car when we see the large retail price, and we get a rebate.  Payments - It is easier to swallow the monthly payments on a large purchase rather than seeing the whole price tag upfront. Gas – Getting a 10 cent discount when you pay cash is easier to swallow than a 10 cent surcharge for using your credit card. Payroll – There is higher perceived income when you separate all their benefits on their check versus putting it all in one large sum. Negotiation – Starting as high or low as possible will get you better terms.
