CW: This case deals with sexual assault, murder, spousal abuse, suicidal ideation, and dismemberment of a human body, so please take care when listening. Wayne Adam Ford turned himself into police at the urging of his brother in November of 1998 - by this time he had already killed at least four women and assaulted many others. His tears and apparent guilt about his crimes earned him the press moniker "the serial killer with a conscience" - we don't think he's that at all. These are the crimes of Wayne Adam Ford. In this episode we venture to Arcata, just north of Eureka California and home to Cal Poly Humboldt to discuss ranching a few miles from the Pacific. Every environment presents a unique set of problems whether it be weather, invasive or native wildlife or urbanization. Ranchers in Arcata deal with all of the above. The reason for my visit was to talk about Elk. Specifically, Roosevelt Elk. These elk are endemic in the area but for a long-time, populations have waxed and waned. More recently the population has thrived... the Elk don't have many existing predators, are hard on fences and are prolific breeders. The Elk prefer the same feed that cows do and have the ability to access it.The Elk's size, population and reproductivity makes management difficult. In this episode we speak with ranchers Jason & Dean Hunt and Justin Mora about how they deal with the Elk and about what systems they have to manage them. We also speak with Carrington Hilson from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife who is tasked with gathering data on the Elk population in Humboldt County which should aid in better management practices in the future.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with Anita Walters, mother of Christine Walters who mysteriously disappeared after being found naked on a stranger's doorstep.Christine Walters is described as a nature lover, animal lover and yogi. She was a junior in college studying Botany and wanted to help rebuild ecosystems. Then in the Summer of 2008, Christine decided to visit friends living in Portland Oregon. From there she met new friends, self proclaimed spiritual environmental activists living off the grid. Christine followed her new friends to Arcata California, a small old logging town just outside Eureka CA. It is unclear what happened to her while she was there. Some say she was working at a marijuana grow farm and was owed money, others say she had taken part in a so-called 'tea ceremony' and ingested hallucinogens which led to a bad trip.On November 12, 2008, then 23-year-old college junior Christine Lindsey Walters was found naked, confused, frightened and bleeding, covered in scratches. She was on a stranger's doorstep and claiming someone was after her.Police took her to the hospital. The next day Christine called her mother in Wisconsin who faxed over a copy of her identification so that she could board an airplane home. After picking up her I.D. she was never seen again.Christine Walters would now be 35. At the time of her disappearance she was described as 5'2", 100-115 pounds, caucasian with strawberry blonde hair. Her ears and nose are pierced and she has a black butterfly tattoo on her hip and a green and purple iris flower tattoo on the back of her neck.If you have any information in the case please call the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office at 707-445-7251Podcast WEBSITE (Case Photos and video)http://www.truecrimedeadline.comPodcast SOCIAL MEDIA:https://twitter.com/CrimeDeadlinehttps://www.instagram.com/truecrimedeadline/https://www.facebook.com/TrueCrimeDEADLINE/http://www.youtube.com/c/TrueCrimeDEADLINEFB Group:https://www.facebook.com/HelpFindChristineLindseyWalters/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/posts/true-crime-lets-26942079?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=postshare)

John describes a “David and Goliath” story from Eureka CA, and other stories.
https://youtu.be/ACZ-dBLY4_Q “Go Up” 2 Samuel 2:1-11 Recap David is still in the land of the Philistines, before this point he had experienced discouragement and despair, running away from King Saul, hanging out with the enemy and now Saul is dead This is the moment he has been waiting for. Since he was anointed by Samuel as a little boy – a shepherd, the time he has been waiting for has finally come and he can be King Lion King “I just can't wait to be King” He does what every good bible loving, Christ serving Christian would do. He enquires of the Lord “Shall I go to any cities of Judah?” – God answers him and says GO UP! And like a good Christian (described above) he sets out with God's blessing – NO He asks a for further direction “Where shall I go up to?” Man, do we miss the mark on this part – We take over/ argue/ ignore etc. Story - California Trip – (the moment we have been waiting for) Down 101 Eureka CA – 9hrs GPS trying to get me back to I-57 or 8hrs later (we were still 7hrs away from our destination) – we were 2.5hr away from home It's sad that we have Him who knows our destiny/ journey path – yet we tell God, I got it from here Lord (GPS – keep me on 101) I believe that half the time intentions are good- but we are not diligent to adhere to the steps that are laid out in the Bible, that guides us in order to end up in the city that God wants us in. This morning I want to talk to you about Going up. A time has to come when we have to put effort to leave where we are and move closer to where God is callings us or called us. This Christian walk is not an easy one. The enemy will bring, disappointment, deception, distraction - he will try and get you off goal. Watch out! Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [a]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. How can we overcome this – How can we successfully run our race? How can we go up to where God is sending us? Get up For the longest I can remember was not a morning person. I prided in telling people how productive I was at night. That changed I realized that in order to accomplish all that I needed to do in a day I had to “get up” earlier every day. I acknowledged where I was, and that I need to do something different Today God is asking you to acknowledge where you because it's time to GET UP David had spent this period of his life running and watching his back and now, it was time for him to go and in order to do that he had to get up! Today I am asking somebody to GET UP spiritually. Let us have a spiritual awareness – Ask yourself where are you and where do you need to go? David had spent a lot of time running, hiding, fighting to be relevant ….and a time had come when that was now the past and now he had a choice to make. What had sustained him in the past, would not be sufficient to for the journey ahead. He enquired of the Lord!! Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope Spurgeon – God does not only think of you, but towards you. His thoughts are all drifting towards you (as one in love, thinking of their loved one (me add) The devils work is to keep us down, keep those plans in check- David was in a battle for a long time…and if he wasn't in a close relationship with God, that could have easily become his identity. We are not immune to staying down and not “getting up” – “Things will never change”” This is who I am” “This always happens” “That's my luck” You see this in the Story of Elijah

Eureka CA has a long storied history that is integral to the California story almost as much as Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Yosemite. In 1849 one of the early Gold Rush people to come to California from Canada was a man named William Carson. After making a bit of money in gold Carson, a woodsman by trade, decided to move up north to the Trinity Mountains area to pursue the northern gold rush. In 1950 he felled the first tree in the Humboldt bay area - not long after he went full time into the logging business and sent the first loads of redwood to San Francisco. Nearly 300 years of European exploration of the present day California coast fell short of finding the elusive Humboldt Bay. On May 13th, 1950, a settlement was founded on its shore. They called it “Eureka,” a Greek word meaning “I have found it!” Conflict, violence, ghosts, and a historically seedy underbelly, Eureka is now a lively seaport town brimming with interesting stories. Why is it SO HARD to describe a book you REALLY LOVE? Anne tries to figure it out with today's guest Cori Jara, a case worker in Eureka CA. Cori is a lifelong reader who loved the written word so much she became a creative writing major. But after college books lost their luster for Cori for a while—reading felt too much like work. So several years ago, she started keeping a detailed spreadsheet about what she was choosing to read. That spreadsheet led to an epiphany: she diagnosed why her reading life had gotten dull, and what she could do about it.In this episode Anne and Cori talk the prosaic, like what it’s like to move to a town with a smaller library, and the unforgettable—like a book that makes you want to skip dinner, bedtime, and the rest of your life until you finish it.Click over to the podcast website for the full list of titles discussed in this episode, and leave us a comment to let us know what YOU think Cori should read next!Connect with Cori on InstagramConnect with Anne: Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | WSIRN Instagram
