FORD SPOKESPERSON DISMISSES TESLA AUTONOMY AS 'VAPORWARE' "A corporate communications officer for Ford engaged in a rare bit of Twitter trash talking about a competitor — in this case, Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc. — referring to Tesla's Model Y as “vaporware.”" says Yahoo! Finance today: "The put-down was sparked by a tweet from Tesla investor Ross Gerber, who also is the CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management. In a tweet Sunday morning, EST, Gerber expressed his unhappiness with Ford’s Mustang Mach E-electric vehicle to Mike Levine, Ford’s North America communications manager. “Dear Ford,” Gerber tweeted. “It serves no value to try to compare the Mach e to a tesla. It is not and it’s not close. Also. It will serve you to not have your dealers ripping off EV customers with BS $5000 fees. You should return the money to the customers you ripped off. " Levine responded to Gerber within an hour with this tweet: “Why would Ford have to compare? Don’t listen to me. Listen to the media. And return those $10K full-self driving deposits. Mach-E customers drive away with a car. Tesla customers drive off with vaporware.”" https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ford-spokesperson-dismisses-tesla-model-210303531.html TESLA V11 SOFTWARE LEAKS ONLINE "Version 11 of Tesla’s software has been a long time coming and tonight, we got our first look at a major revision of the interface. One of the big new features from the S and X is that new Yoke wheel which has no stalks, which means drive selection is being handled digitally. The setting screen shows an option to enable or disable ‘Smart Shift’, so for those users who want absolute control, its great to see this is an option." according to Techau: "We can see a new area on the left of the display (LHD markets) which has a vehicle icon, then dots above and below it, indicating a drag up or down will let you manually select the direction of the vehicle, in the event the AI-power gear selection chooses the wrong direction. In one of the shots, we see a light pane over the left of the display which provides quick access to vehicle controls. These include lock, Frunk, Trunk, Charge port, Lights, Fold mirrors, Glovebox, and Neutral (current gear selection) at the top. In the middle we see Window lock, Child lock, a brightness slider, View clips (Dashcam), Camera (reverse). This section is completed with a new front image of the car, with the word Controls written under it, along with Mirrors and Steering wheel adjustment buttons." https://techau.com.au/tesla-v11-software-leaks-online-huge-ui-refresh-drag-strip-mode-and-smart-shift VOLKSWAGEN USE OF COBALT NOW MORE THAN TESLA "In 2020, a total of 18,750 tonnes of cobalt were consumed in the batteries of newly-sold passenger EVs globally, an increase of 29% year-over-year, a new report by Adamas Intelligence reveals. According to the market analyst, the increase in cobalt use was the result of a surge in passenger BEV and PHEV sales in the second half of the year, particularly in China and Europe." says mining.com: "Volkswagen Group led the pack with nearly 3,000 tonnes of the blue metal deployed in the batteries of new VW, Audi, Porsche, and SEAT electric vehicles, as well as those manufactured with joint venture partners in China. The German carmaker was followed by Tesla with more than 2,000 tonnes of cobalt deployed" Then it was Hyundai Kia in 3rd and Daimler in 4th. https://www.mining.com/top-five-ev-makers-responsible-for-50-of-cobalt-deployed-in-2020/ CARMAKERS AND BATTERY PRODUCERS CLASH "The Korean battery industry is feeling a sense of crisis as automobile manufacturers are planning to produce batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) on their own. As battery companies' influence increases due to a shortage in battery supply, automakers have begun to move to take control of the market, analysts say." reports Business Korea: "Volkswagen announced on March 15 that it will make unified batteries instead of pouch-type batteries and put them into 80 percent of all electric vehicles it will produce by 2030. Tesla also announced in 2020 that it would produce batteries on its own within three to four years. This means that both of the world's top two EV makers are planning to produce batteries on their own. Hyundai Motor is also considering producing batteries on its own. As automakers are starting to move towards internal battery production, they are expected to take back leadership in the EV industry from battery producers gradually. However, some experts say that battery markers still have roles to play " http://www.businesskorea.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=62902 SEAT TO LAUNCH ENTRY-LEVEL £17K ELECTRIC CAR IN 2025 "SEAT is to introduce an urban electric vehicle to market in 2025, priced from around £17,000-£21,000 and intended to make e-mobility accessible. Announced at the company’s Annual Press Conference, the new Arona-sized model will debut either under the SEAT or the Cupra brand and will be rolled out across the group." reports Fleetworld: "SEAT added that the production of urban electric vehicles in Spain from 2025 is a key pillar of its new Future Fast Forward strategy, with an ambition to produce more than 500,000 urban electric cars per year in Martorell from this date, including for the wider Volkswagen Group. Ross Gerber loves Tesla. Unlike many in the precious–metals industry, the president and CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management believes there is no bubble in tech companies. He argues that behavioral adaptation to global warming will drive oil demand down in the long term and make eco-friendly innovations profitable. Where he does see a bubble is in fiat currency, and deems gold and bitcoin solid monetary alternatives. Our weekly Discovery Group interview features Jim Paterson, CEO of ValOre Metals.
