It's the Christian Horner paradox, according to Marina Hyde: F1 is now hideously dull, but it's never been more dramatic (1m53s); if you kill someone in your sleep, is it murder? (9m33s); and ‘What a ridiculous question!' How fawning, and inanity ruined the red carpet (23m02s)
Are you bummed that there isn't a Top Gun: Maverick this year? I just might have some good news for you. You may find that Gran Turismo meets your Top Gun: Maverick needs. Just like Maverick, we have a driven guy that has an immense talent in this movie named Jann Mardenborough. He's excellent at the auto racing simulator Gran Turismo but wants to be a real race car driver. A GT Academy is created to give gamer drivers like him a chance to auto race for real. No reset buttons. Just your life ending if you screw up just a little bit, just like in a fighter jet. Jann has to beat other gamer drivers and real professional drivers with years of real-life experience. Also, he doesn't want to prove his doubters correct by failing. Can he hang without getting himself killed? Is this high-octane, kinetic, frenetic racing action drama worth you racing to the theater? Check out my spoiler-free review here to find out. Gran Turismo is directed by Neill Blomkamp and stars Archie Madekwe, David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Djimon Hounsou, Geri Horner, Takehiro Hira, Darren Barnet, Josha Stradowski, Daniel Puig, Maeve Courtier-Lily, Pepe Barroso, Niall McShea, Nikhil Parmar, Thomas Kretschmann.Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook
This week two F1 fans and a gamer head back to the theaters on $4 movie day (& Dutch Gran Prix day) to discuss GRAN TURISMO: Based on a True Story (2023). Directed by Neill Blomkamp, written by Jason Hall, and Zach Baylin with a story credit for Alex Tse, the film stars David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Geri Horner aka Ginger Spice, Dijon Hounsou, and Archie Madekwe as Jann Mardenbororough, the real life gamer-turned-racer who served as his own stunt double for this film! We had a lot of fun and enjoyed this while also calling out some of the formula. Take a ride with us! Dave also talked a bit about Blue Beetle.

We discovered that Vanessa thought she was American until she was 7. We realised that ageism is alive and well and yet to be challenged. We found out that Donald Trump is a better actor than Geri Horner nee Halliwell, and it comes as a massive surprise that an old man has the butt of an old man.

"You don't need money, you need ideas."We've rolled out the red carpet for Tom Lemons this week, the head of the Talent & Influencer team at the NSPCC, responsible for winning and managing award winning high profile partnerships for the charity.Tom tells us how a stint working at the Big Issue Magazine, helping to save it from closure, sparked a passion for the third sector and led to his move to (according to Kenneth) the ‘most glamorous role in charity'. He now rubs shoulders with the likes of Geri Horner and Wayne Rooney, not to mention opening pop up shops for Harrods. We discuss the key skills required, why you don't need a little black book and the importance of relationships. We have terrible chat up lines, 90s TV queens and how Kenneth became best mates with Wesley Snipes. There's the similarities with corporate partnerships, dealing with agents and celebrity top trumps, plus learning the marketing mix, the move to an influencer model and the most important (and lucrative) phone call of Tom's career. ---You can find us on www.domoregood.uk or follow us on Twitter and Instagram. It goes without saying really but the episodes contains our opinions - essentially things we overheard in meetings, stole from presentations and read in magazines. Thanks for listening.
When the Grammy nominations last came out everyone was shocked that The Weeknd did not get a single nomination despite having one of the biggest albums of the year. He then called out the Recording Academy's “secret committees” who helps decide who won in each category, saying that they need to be more transparent about the deciding process. This past Friday the Recording Academy made the announcement that they are changing up the nomination process for next year's show. So instead of this small group of people having the final decision, it will be decided by a majority of Academy voting members. But what does this mean for The Weeknd who said he doesn't want to partake in the show anymore. He is standing by that and is not going to even let his music be considered for nomination from now on and is continuing his boycott. Speaking of the Weeknd being great at what he does he has become the first male artist in history to achieve 3 number one hit songs on the Billboard Hot 100 from the same album in three different years with “Heartless” “Blinding Lights” and “Save Your Tears”! SNL announced the last few hosts and musical guests for the season and it is going to be good. Coming up on May 15th, Keegan Michael Key is going to be hosting with Olivia Rodrigo as the musical guest and on May 22nd Anya Taylor Joy who you might recognize from the movie Emma and The Queen's Gambit is going to be hosting with Lil Nas X as the musical guest! There is a big rumour going around that the Spice Girls are going to be making a sequel to their movie Spice World! This would line up perfectly with the 25th anniversary of the group originally forming that is next year. Geri Horner (ginger spice) is the one leading the whole project since she is the manager of the group and Mel C, Mel B (sporty and scary) and Emma (baby spice) are all apparently on board and down to make a follow up. The last time the girls got together was in 2019 when they did a 13 day tour across the UK and Ireland. As part of Billie Eilish's British Vogue cover shoot, there is a 19 minute video that came out with it with such a beautiful concept. Billie sits in a room with a couch and a TV and on the screen is 22 different artists who Billie loves that each ask her a question. There were people like Missy Elliott, Justin Bieber, her brother Finneas, Stormzy, Halle Berry, and Viola Davis. LeighAnne Pinnock from Little Mix announced that she is expecting her first child! She made the announcement in the best way possible, with a beautiful photoshoot showing of her growing bump. If 2020 was a Spice Girl, she would be called Awful Spice'. James and John decided life needed spicing up so they are back with a Spice Girls 2020 round-up. They catch up on all things Scary, Baby, Ginger, Posh and Sporty. Geri Horner's 'Rainbow Woman' was a hot topic, the new music, well that caused some confusion. Did Melanie C put out more music than Taylor Swift? It seems like it, Sporty never sleeps. They discuss 'Into You' and all the other hits from the album. Mel B seemed to have disappeared but thankfully we got some comeback news. The lovely Emma Bunton has ben keeping us all entertained during lockdown with throwbacks and IG vids, what a shame we couldn't do another Baby Christmas. Then they wrap things up with the other, what's her name? Oh Victoria (Malcolm). What on earth has she been doing? Enjoy and here's to a better 2021

This week on Backstage, we are re-joined by the marvellous Bethany Minelle, who is keen to get the Christmas decorations up, no matter the time of year!We are looking at two films today: Hillbilly Elegy - a new Netflix drama, based on the New York Times Bestseller by J.D. Vance, starring Amy Adams, Glenn Close and Gabriel Basso. Then over on Prime Video, we take a look into Uncle Frank, starring Paul Bettany about a gay man who has to come to terms with his identity and reconnect with his estranged family after a death in the family. We’re also asking why Ryan Reynolds is embodying Ted Lasso by buying Wrexham AFC and what Geri Horner is doing on YouTube?
My fellow Divas, This week we celebrate both an historical triumph and an historical failure. Yes, Donald Trump is about to be exorcised from the White House. Yes, Kamala Harris is set to become the first female, black and Indian-origin vice-president in history. And yet... Over here, across the pond, we have suffered another damaging blow to our democracy. The "Great" British Public, in their seemingly endless capacity for showing their arse, have voted for walking embodiments of crusty sheets, the cringe-inducing, sub-McFly, straight, white nonsense that is Since September to win Little Mix: The Search. We will move forward. But, it will take time. Meanwhile, life goes on. And so does the Week in Diva. Geri Horner's been in the dressing-up box again, Kylie's dropped a banger and we ask the question on everyone's lips: where is Jesy Nelson? Plus, it's once more unto the Bitch, dear friends, with Rich. Chris has another spoopy coincidence for us and we spin the wheel on Excellent or Fine. The Spice Girls have hinted that their sellout reunion tour will travel to Australia early next year, after Mel B made a surprise announcement during the group's final performance at London's Wembley Stadium Saturday evening."We'll see you in February in Australia," Mel B told the crowd. Details of live dates in Australia -- which would be the first time the group has performed in the country -- are yet to be officially announced. However, in a radio interview with Australia's 2Day FM's Grant, Ed and Ash, Mel B admitted the tour isn't locked in."You know me by now," she said. "I always say the Spice Girls are going to continue and continue and tour the whole world."My thing is, and I've got a bee in my bonnet about it, is that we need to come to Australia first out the gate. I announced it on stage, yes, without everybody else signing off 100 per cent, but I figured if I put it out there maybe it's going to happen."Ash London said, "So, you're manifesting it?""Exactly," Mel B replied. The singer known as Scary Spice said her bandmates are "not on board fully, yet," with the idea of an Australian tour. "But I will make sure it actually does it happen," she added. The announcement came at the end of the 13-stop tour, the first tour from the group since 2008 and their first performances since their appearance at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony.Mel B's announcement wasn't the only surprise. Geri Horner, aka Ginger Spice, also surprised the crowd Saturday by apologising for quitting the group in 1998."I need to say something I should have said a long time ago," she told the 70,000 fans at Wembley."I'm sorry. I'm sorry I left. I was just being a brat. It is so good to be back with the girls that I love."‘I was being a brat’ - Geri apologises for leaving the Spice Girls (in a way that connected with me, at least, more than ever) #spicegirls #spice #geri #icanbeabrattoo pic.twitter.com/0UPnshgC6F— Jamie Tabberer (@jamietabberer) June 15, 2019Horner left the group after reportedly suffering from health issues, two years before the whole band went on an indefinite hiatus. Her emotional announcement came at the end of the Spice Girls' 13-date reunion tour, which also took the group to Dublin, Ireland; Cardiff, Wales; Edinburgh, Scotland; and the English cities of Manchester, Coventry, Sunderland and Bristol.Horner also shared a heartfelt video of herself standing inside the empty stadium following the final show. "This is it. They are taking it down. It's been amazing," she said, while shrugging her shoulders. She posted another video thanking her bandmates and everyone who attended the concerts. "Thirteen stadiums. Almost 70,000 people, with three amazing women I've shared that stage with," she said."I want to say thank you to Melanie, Melanie and Emma and everybody who showed up for us," Horner said, referring to Melanie Brown (Mel B), Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton."It has been something that I will never, ever forget. Thank you so much. Big love from Spice World."A number of high-profile guests attended the concert Saturday, including Grammy award-winning singer Adele."Last time I saw the Spice Girls at Wembley was 21 years ago," Adele wrote on Instagram. "Tonight with my nearest and dearest i cried, laughed, screamed, danced, reminisced and fell back in love with my 10 year old self."It's no secret how much I love them, how much they inspired me to run for my life and never look back. I finally got to meet Ginger. I got drunk with the girls and quite frankly I can't believe how far I've come."The Spice Girls launched their reunion tour in May in Dublin, and they performed as a four-piece because Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, declined to take part.
Oh Geri Halliwell, you creative genius, thank you for the music! James and John talk all things Ginger Spice, starting with her pre Spice Girl departure and giving their opinions on where she shined best within the group. Touching on her younger years as presenter and topless model on Page 3, they then have to wonder if "Look At Me" was a reference to those early days, they certainly know it's about putting Ginger to rest, as per the iconic music video where Geri holds her own funeral. More hits came out of Schizophonic, like "Lift Me Up" (with that whackadoodle music video) and "Bag It UP" an absolute pop stunner, especially with that Brit Awards live performance. Ginger certainly knows how to entertain. James and John have varied opinions about the second album era with songs like "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster" and "Calling". They do notice a lot of other artists seem to have stolen some of Geri's creative genius though, picking things from her music videos as signatures, we are look at you Ariana Grande. Then comes the "Ride It" and the third album "Passion", but was Geri losing her passion at this point? From books to Tv shows and Christian music, wait what?! Yes, James think that 4th unreleased album has some Jesus undertones. Geri Halliwell becomes Geri Horner and they have to wonder if we'll ever see her with red hair ever again? Maybe she did bury Ginger after all. BRING HER BACK.

The Spice Girls visited Heart’s London studio for their first group interview after announcing their 2019 tour… and it was mayhem. Mel B, Mel C and Geri Horner stormed the studio where Emma Bunton was presenting the Breakfast Show with Jamie Theakston - a long time friend of the band, who first interviewed the girls 22 years ago. The next 30 minutes was packed with nostalgia, exclusive insights on what brought the band back together after a decade apart, rumours they are to headline Glastonbury… and which of the girls once threw up in Emma’s mouth. Now you can join in the fun with Baby, Sporty, Ginger and Scary in this special one-off podcast.

This is a good introduction to black American cinema. We don't talk much about Lee's musical segment in this film, but this is enlightening. After Rob's thoughts on independent cinema, this is a good article on some of the films which came in the decade after SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT.
