I used to think that being bored meant having nothing to do, so if I had things to do and I was bored, it meant that I was being irresponsible or lazy. But that is not what boredom means. It is a sign that there is an energetic misalignment between the life we are on and new paths, opportunities, and potentials that our soul is trying to open our awareness to.When I was growing up my mother gave us extra chores to do if we were bored so we made sure to always act and look busy because we didn't want to do extra work. But hiding our boredom, especially from ourselves, is not a good thing to do because boredom serves an important purpose in letting us know that our energy tank is out of gas and we need a new vibe and a refill to get motivated and move forward.Boredom is a tug of war between the mind and the spirit, an invitation to find another way to ‘be', instead of finding something else to do. (Why you're seeing a photo of my bathroom is explained at the end of the article).Our needs change over time and we feel stuck and frustrated because the energy that is creating the path that we are on is not giving us the results we want. The energy we have used to create our current reality will only fuel that reality. I would call myself a motivated person in the sense that I am energetic, positive, accomplished, efficient, and I am very results oriented. But that is according to the generally accepted definition of the word ‘motivation' and it does not do justice to the concept of motivation. When we look at motivation clearly we have to ask the question, ‘why are you doing this' because the true definition of motivation is your reason for doing something. And that is not always the reason you are telling yourself. it is the underlying, deep, true reason for your actions and when we investigate our motivations and motives we can find that we can have more than one and they are often not aligned or working together.There is an external reason and an internal reason for everything that we are motivated to do.What is my reason for how I work and live my life? I am a learner, I love learning new things, exploring new adventures and being able to get things done. I enjoy the sense of accomplishment that accompanies starting and finishing a new task. I have over 100 pairs of shoes. I love being outside, gardening, bicycling, and hiking. I am an accomplished musician and I enjoy playing music. I am also a celebrated author and podcaster and I love interacting with people from all over the world.That is my external reason for my motivation. And that is what really serves as a motivator which is something I know now but I did not know for many years. I know that everyone reading this can think of a life situation where someone treated them badly and they are still angry, hurt, or upset over it. If that person is someone they interact with regularly the hurt is replayed in excruciating detail everything you see them or even think about them. People say we should forgive the other person in these situations and let it go. Maybe we should but it is hard to do for a lot of reasons, all of them valid. Forgiveness is a choice we can make much more easily when we understand and validate the reasons why we don't, can't, or won't forgive, and then use the forgiveness process in a way that doesn't make us feel like we're betraying our own emotions and giving someone else a free pass for their bad behavior.Here are 5 reasons why forgiveness is so hard, and then I'll tell you how you can forgive with grace and ease and feel like a winner.1. We want validation of our emotions and our pain from the person who was responsible for creating it. We all feel this way, no matter who we are or how spiritually enlightened we are. When someone does something that requires us to consider forgiveness, it involves inconsiderate, mean, rude, or otherwise bad behavior. And we want them to admit that they caused us pain. Of course we probably won't get it but that doesn't mean we don't want it.2. Our anger empowers us and becomes our purpose. Anger may be limiting in some ways but it is empowering in other ways and if we're angry enough about something we can use that anger to move forward to prove someone wrong. Who doesn't remember the scene in the movie Gone with the Wind where Scarlett O'Hara vows that she ‘will never be hungry again' or in the movie The Mirror Has Two Faces, where Barbara Streisand's character uses her anger at being rejected by her husband to lose weight and create a new image? Anger can a powerful motivating tool that we can use to show someone that we're going to succeed in spite of what they have done to us or to keep us locked into victim mode to compel acknowledgement of our pain. And if we forgive them we have to let go of our anger and we lose access to it as a source of power. 3.  We grieve the unfulfilled expectations that are now lost forever.  Every relationship has some level of expectations connected to it, which is what we use to create our plans and map out the future we believe we have with this relationship. And the more expectations we have, the more we suffer the blow back when the relationship ends. Can we forgive someone for destroying our carefully made future plans and projects? What do we use to fill in the gap that is left when our expectations aren't realized? 4. We cannot accept that someone's behavior towards us is actually aligned with who they are and we take it personally. We cannot forgive them, in the context of forgiveness as a process of release and the completion and closure that goes along with it, because we believe that it is about us when it is not, it is about that person.We also do not acknowledge that our light and energy are what compels people to reject us. It simply does not occur to us that there is a mismatch in our energetic frequency that makes someone so uncomfortable that they will engage in behavior that forces a separation. Our intentions are good, noble, and are in their best interests. We want them to see the light, to be happier, to have more joy, and to expand into the potential that we see in them and that we believe is right and best for them. While it is a wonderful gift to hold 5. We think we have to forgive everything without any benefit to us and mistake the term forgiveness for excusing bad behavior as though it did not exist or the situation did not happen. Then we have to allow that person or situation to victimize us again.Because the process of forgiveness is defined in such a general way, implying that we should just let everything go and ‘forgive and forget', we think that by giving forgiveness we become the victim of something we have no control over, now or in the future. It's like an endless replay of the movie Ground Hog Day, where we never get out of the victim cycle, we never get the respect we want and deserve, and we are subject to behavior and abuse that never ends. Unless we view forgiveness in a different way, it is rather unappealing and disempowering. No wonder it is so hard for us to see it as empowering and beneficial for us. Everyone has a situation in their life, whether it is happening now or has happened in the past, that they feel was unfair, mean, rude, or abusive, And the energy echoes of that situation stay with us, even if we forgive. We do not forget anything. And to force us into that just goes against the way our mind works. But if we view forgiveness differently, in a way that does empower us, we can see it as a step on our path to empowerment, breaking free of a limiting and painful past and take control over our relationships and our life. Read the rest of the article on the blog at enlighteninglife.com 

Listen to Episode 096: It's been ONE year since we moved into our beautiful little home here on the CC. I can't actually quite believe we are celebrating this anniversary already. If you haven't already please listen to the back story - the manifesting and calling in of this home and relocation.  This has been a year of so much abundance, ease, flow and joy. Integrating, recalibrating and attuning especially to this home, the land and the nature we are surrounded by. Cycling through the seasons and rooting in. A year of expansion and growth in my business, through my own awakening of spiritual gifts and talents, in community and connection and so much more. In this year I have launched three programs, coached countless women, hosted multiple in-person and live workshops, co-facilitated a retreat for the divine Lorraine Murphy. Travelled twice (pre lockdown!). Learnt to garden and grow veggies. For those of you interested in knowing what I've studied/explored over the last 18 months see below. Some of this I've been immersed in for longer (and in fact the list is longer than this!) There has also been quite regular Kinesiology, Acupuncture and other forms of self-care.  But I just wanted to honour these people for their contribution to my mind-body-soul growth and healing.  I'm studied Reiki with Jason McGrice, Queen School with Julie Tenner, Deepened my training in Magdalene Frequency, Womb Yoga and Energetics with Ana Otero. We are living in challenging, confusing, and troubling times, on a personal and on a global scale and portals for transformation are opening in every direction. On a personal level we can feel like we are being forced to accept and adopt changes that we are not ready for and maybe didn't want. Our resistance to change can be high and sometimes we refuse it entirely. It's not a character flaw to want to maintain the status quo but rather than looking at what we are not moving towards, I think it is more beneficial to look at what we are trying to hold on to and why, rather than blame, shame, criticize, and judge ourselves for not being able to release it. Why do we hang onto something even if we know it isn't useful, helpful, or know that the situation or person is not going to change?  And we will go so far as to sabotage ourselves if we venture too far away from the status quo, doing anything to avoid change.Whether we open that portal to change or it is opened for us because a situation ends or someone decides they are ready to move on, our resistance to change can surprise us. We can become very feisty when we feel we're backed into a corner and we are convinced that we need to hang on to what we have even though it is not working for us, we aren't happy, and we don't see a future in it.There is no way we can explore the benefits of transformation if we believe we are not willing or ready to make changes. And contrary to opinion, everything we hang on to does serve us, it just doesn't serve us in ways that help us move forward. Many people search for the meaning and purpose of their life.  Each of us chose a mission for this lifetime.  This episode provides examples of what mission can look like.  You do not have to change careers or quit your job to be on mission (unless you want to).  I review how your passions and the challenges that you have experienced give you clues about your mission.  I also share my story about how the focus of my mission has changed over time even though there have been some central themes.  For many of us, efforts to understand our soul and its history will be helpful in clarifying our mission.  If you feel that you are a Starseed, the book called, Soul Mastery, is a great resource to learn more about your soul group of origin. Take Action Item: You have several options depending on how much you already understand about your soul and its mission in this lifetime.  If you feel that you don’t have a clue, start with learning more about yourself as a soul. Once you feel that you have some ideas about your soul gifts, create space for exploration of your passions and your challenges to discover the guidance that they are providing you.
