Venezuela's elections took place on July 28th. Nicolás Maudro defeated the right-wing candidate Edmundo González Urrutia by over a million votes. The imperialist machine immediately jumped into action to denounce the elections, condemning Maduro as a dictator and calling the results undemocratic. Over 1,000 international observers from 100 countries were in Venezuela for the election, and with few exceptions of those who are against the Bolivarian Revolution, they've stated that the electoral process was fair and free. That hasn't stopped the US government, its media mouthpieces, regional allies and even Elon Musk from calling for the overthrow of the Maduro government.Following the election, waves of fascist violence took the streets of Caracas and other cities, but supporters of the Bolivarian Revolution have themselves mobilized in its defense. We're joined today by Gloria La Riva of the Cuba and Venezuela Solidarity Committee.Support the Show.
The Biden Administration is pursuing a policy of “energy chasing,” where U.S. regulators put pressure on foreign-owned fuel supply companies, shippers and even financial insurers so that they back out of deals to bring “fuel to our ports.”On March 17, there were significant protests in eastern Cuba against the blackouts. The president says the authorities have gone to dialogue with them and explain the country's energy problems. “Two or three [protest] events that were fundamentally peaceful” in Cuba and the Western media creates a narrative of serious instability, says President Miguel Diaz-Canel. Meanwhile “in the world there are more severe protests” and in the U.S. there are protests violently repressed, but these get ignored. We are joined by Gloria La Riva, organizer with the Hatuey Project to discuss the recent protests in Cuba and the ongoing crisis caused by the economic blockade. Then, with the possibility of a new invasion and occupation, we're hearing the same story emerge from Western media and politicians about Haiti: something really bad is happening in Haiti and an invasion is necessary. We are being told that this is the worst ever humanitarian situation in Haiti. As the U.S. Canadian and French governments gathered recently to discuss Haiti's political transition, Haitians get no say over this. When it comes to Haiti, it seems like everyone else gets to decide. We're joined by Kerbie Joseph, a Haitian organizer with the ANSWER Coalition, to talk about how Western colonialism and imperialism are the historical root of and current cause of the problems in Haiti, and what the resistance looks like.Support the show
The United States government is inserting itself into a border dispute between Venezuela and Guyana on behalf of ExxonMobil. The oil-rich Essequibo region has the world's biggest reserves per capita of crude oil and in May of this year, a “significant discovery” by ExxonMobil was announced in the area's 6.6-million acre Staborek Block oil field. In a December 3rd referendum, 10.4 million Venezuelans voted overwhelmingly to keep the US out of the disagreement and to continue to handle the dispute under the 1966 Geneva Agreement. The US State Department is dismissing the referendum results and while spokesperson Matthew Miller said the US wants a “peaceful resolution,” Secretary of State Blinken has put forward that the US totally backs Guyana and that the region 61,600 square mile area is fully Guyanese. To get into the history of Essequibo and help us understand what's happening in the context of decades of US imperialist actions against Venezuela, we're joined by Gloria La Riva of the Cuba and Venezuela Solidarity Committee.Support the show
Hey, y'all! This week we are diving back into the 2024 Presidential election. The Party of Socialism & Liberation (PSL) announced their presidential ticket via a very well produced video that took leftist Twitter by storm. But who are Claudia De La Cruz & Karina Garcia? What does the PSL stand for? What secrets does the party hold?Partial answer to the last question: this episode does require a trigger warning for sexual violence and talk of suicidal ideation.
The United States tries to keep people in the dark about the blockade against Cuba and the many accomplishments of the Cuban Revolution. This is part of the U.S. campaign to overturn the socialist government in Cuba that has successfully led its people through more than 60 years of attacks, attempted coups, sanctions, trade embargoes, and the Covid pandemic. Brian is joined by Gloria La Riva, the coordinator of the Cuba and Venezuela Solidarity Committee and a longtime leader of brigades to Cuba to learn and expose people in the United States to the realities on the ground, and Aminah Sheikh, who is a labor and community organizer active in the Canadian peace movement. A deadly fire broke out over the weekend in Cuba from a lightning storm that struck near an oil storage facility and caused an explosion. At least one person has been confirmed dead, and dozens more are injured and missing. This tragic natural disaster could have happened in any country, but is even harder on Cuba due to the U.S. war against them...including many of Trump's policies that Biden hasn't touched. There is murder and mayhem in Haiti at the moment, but little news coverage. In contrast, the Western media would have us believe there is a huge upheaval in Cuba. Lots of people are working hard to make us view the rallies as anti-government protests, but have ignored the sea change in Latin America's attitude to the US' isolation of Cuba, with right-wing anti-Cuba regimes falling one by one. Gloria La Riva stood for president last year in the United States and got the best results for a socialist in 44 years. She joined Sputnik to discuss whether the Latin American ‘pink tide' is rolling in once again. One of the more predictable outcomes of Brexit is the shortage of labor in Britain in certain sectors. Millions of workers have come to the UK over the decades, mainly from East and Central Europe, usually to seek higher wages than they would have earned back home. Paradoxically, many have now returned home to better rates of pay. But what does their departure mean for Britain? With the backdrop of rotting fruit in the fields, empty shelves in the shops and, most importantly, a shortage of truckers on the motorways, we asked one of the ‘knights of the road,' Simon Evans, how the shortage is affecting British long-distance lorry drivers and the firms that employ them.
Cuba faces a new surge of attacks that can only be understood through the history of US regime change operations and the forces behind the "SOS Cuba" protests. Abby Martin is joined by Gloria La Riva to discuss.

According to a new Gallop poll, over 60 percent of those surveyed are dissatisfied with the two major political parties in the US. The country is divided politically, but the parties themselves are divided within. Add to this the fact that most voters don't belong to either party. Is it finally time to move on from this duopoly? In this episode of By Any Means Necessary, hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Chris Smalls, labor activist, founder of The Congress Of Essential Workers, and host of the podcast “It's a Smalls World,” to discuss the ongoing struggle to unionize the Amazon warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama, the extensive efforts by management to combat the organization by workers, and what a successful unionization there would mean for similar efforts across the country and the globe. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by journalist, writer and researcher Denis Rogatyuk to discuss the latest in the contentious presidential election in Ecuador earlier this month, the rapid breakdown of the ostensible alliance between would-be runners-up Guillermo Lasso and Yaku Perez, and how the Organization of American States is attempting to influence the situation. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Gloria La Riva of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, to discuss the conditions at a Houston-area shelter in Texas giving refuge to families seeking relief from the cold, the broad systemic failures exposed by the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the state, and how other organizations are stepping in to fill the gaps left by their absentee state and federal government.Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Abdushshahid Luqman, Executive Producer and co-host of Luqman Nation, to discuss Ted Cruz's trip to Cancun amid the devastating disaster unfolding in his home state, the rise of Rush Limbaugh, the significance of Trump's dismissal of Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell as a "dour, sullen, unsmiling political hack," and the crucial role of Donald Trump in uniting the reactionary segments which have come to form the core of the Republican base.

Ser candidata presidenta mujer y latina en EEUU¿Crees que la educación en Estados Unidos tiene oportunidades para mejorar?
These are excerpts from Gloria La Riva's answers at the Third 2020 Open Presidential Debate. Listen to Gloria elucidate the PSL's socialist platform in comparison with other third parties. Topics include abolishing the supreme court and anti-democratic electoral systems, the limits of reforms like UBI and breaking up big companies like Facebook, and most of all, the necessity for a new system that replaces the fundamentally and undeniably broken system of capitalism. Tonight’s debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden was testament to how little choice voters truly have in this so-called democracy. Gloria La Riva and Sunil Freeman are running in the presidential election to give voters a real alternative -- one that stands for the rights of the working class and in opposition to war, racism and the destruction of the environment. On these existential issues of our time and so many others, Trump and Biden have more in common than they pretend. Neither have a program to meet the scale of these crises — and under either one, they will only deepen. One major theme of the debate was taxes, with Joe Biden posturing as the champion of “the middle class” by favorably comparing his own personal tax payments with Trump’s. Of course it is an outrage that someone as fabulously wealthy as Donald Trump paid virtually nothing in taxes for years. But it is also a common practice among the elite that rules this country. Notably, one of the key ways that the ultra-rich and their corporations evade taxes is by setting up a shell headquarters in Delaware, a state with no corporate income tax. Joe Biden served as the Senator from Delaware for 36 years, becoming by far the most powerful man in the state’s politics. During these decades, Biden was silent on the issue. Couple that with his record of voting to gut social programs, embracing anti-worker free trade agreements and shielding the big banks from accountability for the 2008 financial crash -- Biden’s sudden change of heart about tax evasion by the wealthy is a display of utter hypocrisy and cannot be taken seriously. We condemn Donald Trump’s racist attacks on the Black Lives Matter movement and his attempts to portray the righteous uprising as mindless violence and rioting. Gloria La Riva, Sunil Freeman and the entire PSL have been in the streets all summer as proud participants in the movement. But we cannot forget Joe Biden’s record either. Biden was a principal architect of mass incarceration through his authorship of the draconian 1994 crime bill, which he justified with rhetoric demonizing Black youth. Biden launched his political career as an avowed opponent of school desegregation and has repeatedly, publicly praised Senators who were among the most notorious defenders of Jim Crow apartheid -- Strom Thurmond, James Eastland and Herman Talmadge. Neither candidate is willing to even consider the type of dramatic action that needs to be taken to tackle the Coronavirus pandemic and associated economic crisis. The PSL’s La Riva/Freeman campaign demands the immediate cancellation of rent and mortgage payments with no accumulation of debt, full replacement of all unemployed workers’ incomes, free healthcare for all and international cooperation to develop a vaccine. The Gloria La Riva/Sunil Freeman ticket stands for a new system — socialism — where the working class and oppressed hold economic and political power, and the needs of the people and the planet are planned for and guaranteed. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Gloria La Riva of the Cuba and Venezuela Solidarity Committee and the ANSWER Coalition to commemorate the late revolutionary icon Fidel Castro on his 94th birthday, discuss why Cubans feel such a powerful bond to their longtime leader, and talk about the important historical links between the anti-imperial struggle in Cuba and the fight for Black liberation in the US and Africa.Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Ted Rall, award-winning editorial cartoonist and columnist, and author of the new book, “Political Suicide: The Fight for the Soul of the Democratic Party,” to discuss the political motivations behind the Democrats' selection of Kamala Harris as Joe Biden's VP pick, why the Democratic Party establishment seems to prefer "identity politics" to policies of real economic and racial liberation, and her many reactionary positions and statements which are giving pause to so many progressive voters.
A lot to talk about this week as Dawn and Karleigh update listeners on the lawsuit against Idaho's HB500, the conferences canceling college football, misgendering attacks against PA Health Secy. Rachel Levine, the WNBA getting political in a U.S. Senate race, William Shatner's rant against being labeled cis and we review episode 1 of Star Trek: Lower Decks. A note to listeners: we recorded a discussion of who Joe Biden should pick as his running mate, but it seemed dated to include since he chose Kamala Harris, and not Brynn Tannehill, Gloria La Riva or Karleigh Chardonnay Webb. In this episode of By Any Means Necessary hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Gloria La Riva of the Cuba and Venezuela Solidarity Committee and ANSWER Coalition, to talk about the highly-dubious allegations of drug-trafficking (and corresponding $15 million bounty) levied at Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the US State Department, and whether this should be a learning moment about the US government's fundamental inability to act out of real solidarity. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Netfa Freeman, an analyst for the Institute for Policy Studies and member of the Black Alliance for Peace Coordinating Committee, to talk about the increasing militarization of city streets across the country as the government turns to the Defense Department in the Coronavirus crisis, why the presence of soldiers trained to occupy hostile territory in racialized neighborhoods is more of the same for many marginalized communities, and whether emergency response measures instituted will ever ultimately be rolled back after the pandemic. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Richard Becker, author of Palestine, Israel and the U.S. Empire, to talk about the news that Benny Gantz has declined to pursue the prime minister-ship and Benjamin Netanyahu looks poised to maintain his position, why an explosive COVID-19 outbreak appears imminent in the densely-populated open-air prison of Gaza, and what may become of the various political factions which just days ago comprised the Gantz's Blue-and-White coalition.Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Dr. Dave Ragland, Senior Bayard Rustin Fellow at the Fellowship of Reconciliation and Co-Founder of the Truth Telling Project, to talk about the House of Representative's passage of the Coronavirus bailout, White House's apparent disinterest in funding much-needed ventilators amid a shortage, why the severity of the crisis in Italy should be waking us up to the need for a mass medical mobilization as we surpass their total number of total cases, how the Trump administration is using the pandemic to justifying defanging the EPA for the duration of the crisis, and—given that 'when America has a cold, Black people get the flu'—what Black people should expect when America gets Coronavirus.
On this episode of By Any Means Necessary, hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Dr. Margaret Flowers, Co-Founder of Popular Resistance and Director of the Health Over Profit for Everyone (HOPE) Campaign, to talk about how prepared the US healthcare infrastructure is, or isn't, for potential Coronavirus outbreaks, why the Chinese government's actions were lauded by the World Health Organization but condemned by the mainstream media, why prominent narratives surrounding the virus are steeped in the legacy of anti-Chinese racism, how the US healthcare system's for-profit orientation and general lack of worker protections make the challenge for healthcare workers so much harder, and why the US is so unwilling to learn from the many positive achievements of the Chinese response. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Maury Johnson, Executive Member of the POWHR Coalition, to talk about the legal battle being waged before the Supreme Court between backers and opponents of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, why the case hinges on questions of jurisdiction over the Appalachian Trail, how his family and community continue to be negatively impacted by pipeline construction, how gas fracking has led to elevated rates of cancer, birth defects and contaminated water in rural areas, and why individual gas consumers are getting stuck with the bill for all of this. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Gloria La Riva of the Cuban-Venezuelan Solidarity Committee and the ANSWER Coalition to talk about the Cuban literacy initiatives which Bernie Sanders has been attacked for supporting, how Cuba's "Yo Si Puedo" educational model has been so successful in eliminating adult illiteracy on an international level, why Sanders' perceived sympathy for a country long in the crosshairs of the US ruling class terrifies the Democratic establishment so much, the ways that the threat of Cuba's good example motivates the US government's ban on travel to the island nation, and how the high-quality social services provided there are motivating Americans to look past the propaganda and see the country for themselves.Later in the show, Jacquie and Sean are joined by Jamarl Thomas, host of The Progressive Soapbox podcast and co-host of Political Misfits on Radio Sputnik, to talk about whether the US healthcare system will be able to handle the coming Coronavirus outbreaks, why Joe Biden's own campaign is correcting his Nelson Mandela tall tale, why white politicians who tokenize black voters seem to provoke so little outrage, why Joe Biden feels compelled to whitewash his positions toward the civil rights movement, how class informs the perceived generational gap in Black attitudes towards insurrectionary politics, why racism is not a question of attitude but of power, the news that MSNBC commentator Jason Johnson has been temporarily forced to step down after his comments describing two high-profile Sanders surrogates as coming "from the island of misfit Black girls," how Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic establishment are subverting democracy while claiming to do the opposite, and whether they'll be be able to successfully swipe the nomination from Sanders without causing an irreparable schism in the party.

In this 1 hour special of Women Fight Back we delve into the current situation unfolding in Bolivia and the history of U.S. intervention in Latin America. In the last days we have seen increasing violence against Evo Morales' supporters in the street of La Paz. The coup attempts began in Bolivia after the October 20th elections where President Evo Morales won with over a ten point lead. Learn in this episode why this has been a false pre-text for a coup that has been planned for some time prior to the elections. In the last week, right wing, anti union, and anti indigenous forces led by former senator and self proclaimed leader of Bolivia Jeanine Áñez and backed by elements of the police and military have usurped the country’s top government positions and are violently repressing President Morales’s supporters, who have taken to the streets in thousands. Learn more about the mainstream media blackout on this violence and on the anti-indigenous colonial sentiments of the self proclaimed "interim" government. We are joined by Presidential Candidate for the Party for Socialism and Liberation and long time Venezuela-Cuba solidarity activist Gloria La Riva, and Bolivian-American anti-war activist Joe Mendoza from the ANSWER Coalition.

On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker and John Kiriakou are joined by Dr. Nazia Kazi, an activist, professor of Anthropology at Stockton University and the author of the forthcoming book “Islamophobia, Race and Global Politics.” Senator John McCain died on Saturday and the testimonies about his service and character are pouring in from around the country. McCain is being described as a maverick and a moderate who tried to wrest his party from dangerous populism. However, his real legacy is his consistent votes for and encouragement for the country to go to war, and he personally dropped bombs over civilians in Hanoi. Progressive governments across Latin America have been under unprecedented pressure to move to the right, with countries from Brazil to Argentina to Ecuador either pushing liberal leaders aside or changing policy to ally themselves with the United States. Lanny Davis, the attorney for President Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen, is backing off statements he made last week that Cohen has information to share with investigators indicating that Trump knew in 2016 of Russian efforts to undermine the Hillary Clinton campaign. And attorneys for accused Russian spy Maria Butina say that federal allegations that Butina traded sex for information are nonsense. Coleen Rowley, a former FBI special agent who in 2002 was named Time Magazine person of the year along with two other whistleblowers, joins the show. Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami met today with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and pledged Iranian help in the reconstruction of Syria, as well as enhanced defense cooperation. The North Korean government reacted angrily today after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo canceled his planned visit to that country. Dr. Christine Hong, associate professor of critical race and ethnic studies at UC Santa Cruz and a member of the Korea Policy Institute, joins the show.In a victory for labor unions, a federal judge on Saturday struck down key provisions of a series of executive orders that would have made it easier to fire federal workers and weaken their unions. The House of Representatives yesterday approved a plan to roll back banking regulations in response to the 2008 financial crisis. The Senate already had approved the measure, which now goes to President Trump for his signature. The measure leaves the central structure of Dodd-Frank in place, but is the most significant weakening of the law since it was passed a decade ago. Brian and John speak with Brad Birkenfeld, a whistleblower who exposed billions of dollars of financial fraud committed by banking giant UBS and the author of “Lucifer’s Banker: The Untold Story of How I Destroyed Swiss Bank Secrecy,” whose work is at lucifersbanker.com. A high-level Syrian official has dismissed the idea that Iran would withdraw its troops from Syria, which are intervening on the side of the country’s government. An Iranian withdrawal from Syria is one of the demands listed in Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s “Plan B” war speech earlier this week. Ambassador Peter Ford, the former British Ambassador to Syria, joins the show. Luis Posada Carriles, a former CIA operative and militant Cuban exile, died yesterday in Miami. Carriles was accused of organizing a string of hotel bombings in Cuba in 1997 and of engineering a 1976 airline bombing in Cuba that killed 73 people. Human rights and transparency activists reacted to Carilles’ death by calling him “an unrepentant terrorist and a Frankenstein monster created by the CIA.” Gloria La Riva, the Peace and Freedom Party’s 2018 California gubernatorial candidate, and Andrés Gómez, the Coordinator of the Antonio Maceo Brigade, join Brian and John. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced yesterday that he would expel the top two US diplomats in Caracas, giving them 48 hours to leave the country. This apparently was in response to a statement by the State Department called Maduro a “dictator”. He said, however, said that the US Embassy has overseen a military, economic, and political conspiracy to overthrow him. Secretary of State Pompeo said that the US would respond proportionally. Meanwhile, the Lima Group of 14 nations said that he would “limit” diplomatic contacts with Venezuela. Jeanette Charles, a writer, editor, and solidarity liaison with Venezuelanalysis.com, joins the show.President Trump opened the door yesterday to a phased dismantling of North Korea’s nuclear weapons program, backing away from his earlier demand that Kim Jong Un abandon his arsenal without any American concessions. This new flexibility seems to have put the president at odds with his own National Security Advisor.

Also, don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review the show on iTunes. We can't do this show without your support!!! This week, Roqayah and Kumars welcome first-time guest Anoa Changa and returning guest Eugene Puryear to the show. Anoa is an attorney and host of the podcast The Way with Anoa. She’s the co-managing editor of Progressive Army, and she also edits and writes for Peach Perspective which brings a left focus to politics in Georgia. Eugene is an organizer and founding member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), and is on the editorial board of Liberation News. He ran for Vice President alongside Presidential candidate Gloria La Riva under the PSL banner in 2008 and 2016. He is the author of Shackled and Chained: Mass Incarceration in Capitalist America, and host of By Any Means Necessary on Radio Sputnik. Anoa and Eugene were recently contacted by a reporter for Atlanta NPR affiliate WABE, ostensibly to profile Anoa about her experiences as a black activist in Atlanta. Eugene was contacted because he had hosted Anoa on his radio show, which is on Radio Sputnik, which has ties to the Russian state. The article, which ran on WABE and was boosted in other outlets, attempted to discredit Anoa and Eugene's work because of this extremely loose connection to Russia. Anoa and Eugene situate their treatment in historical context, pointing out that black organizing has been discredited for decades as a Soviet conspiracy to destabilize American politics. We get everyone's thoughts on Russian "election meddling", ignoring the hype to discuss more pressing threats to our electoral system and real ways to address them that don't result in a jingoist frenzy. Anoa and Eugene call out mainstream US news outlets for chastising leftists for appearing on platforms they deem out-of-bounds, while simultaneously denying leftists space and instead giving platforms to far-right scum. Finally, we have a very nuanced conversation about the complexities of choosing the right platform for your message, especially in our media universe where no platform with any real reach is pure. You can follow Anoa on Twitter @TheWayWithAnoa, and follow Eugene @EugenePuryear. A transcript for this episode will be provided upon request. Miguel Diaz Canal has been elected by the National Assembly to be the new President of Cuba. As the country embarks on a historic leadership transition as Raul Castro steps down, what does the future hold for Cuba and its socialist system? The weekly series “Criminal Injustice” continues, where the hosts discuss the most egregious conduct of our courts and prosecutors and how justice is denied to so many people in this country, including the murder by NYPD of Saheed Vassell, a man known by cops and the community to be mentally ill. Kevin Gosztola, a writer for Shadowproof.com and co-host of the podcast Unauthorized Disclosure, and Paul Wright, the founder and executive director of the Human Rights Defense Center and editor of Prison Legal News and Criminal Legal News, join the show. Cancer is not only traumatic and deadly, but it can be incredibly expensive to treat. One organization, Value in Cancer Care Consortium, has been working on cutting those costs to make cancer treatment more readily available, and for one treatment, the researchers were able to confirm that just one-third of a drug for blood cancer was just as effective as the previously recommended dose. This would, of course, cut the treatment cost by a third—until Janssen and Pharmacyclics tripled their prices in response. Brian and Walter speak with Dr. Allen Lichter, an oncologist and chair of the board of directors of the Value in Cancer Care Consortium. The Department of Health and Human Services is reportedly planning to issue regulations that will further restrict undocumented people's ability to access health care. The hosts take an in-depth look today and tomorrow at this latest attack on immigrants and the barriers to healthcare access that already existed. Leo Cuello, an attorney and the director of health policy for the National Health Law Program, joins the show. Yesterday evening, Charles County, Maryland residents rallied at the town council building to protest fracking and a potential new fracked gas compressor station. Puerto Rico suffered a huge blackout yesterday leaving the entire island without power, which has still not yet been fully restored. Camilo Punsoda, spokesperson for Juventud Trabajadora, the youth wing of the Working People’s Party of Puerto Rico, joins the show. The Syrian army has given ISIS a 48-hour deadline to vacate areas south of the capital Damascus, primarily the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk, which has suffered under ISIS’ brutal rule since the spring of 2015. Six of those shots were from behind. Protests in Sacramento have grown steadily since Clark was killed, and sympathetic protests have taken place all over the country. Israeli soldiers killed 17 Palestinians and wounded at least 1400 more on Friday during Land Day demonstrations in Gaza. Twenty Palestinians remain in critical condition. No Israelis were killed or wounded. Why would these protesters put their lives on the line? And why would the Israelis kill them? Longtime peace activist and Code Pink member Tighe Barry and Daoud Kuttab, an award-winning Palestinian journalist whose latest book is “Sesame Street Palestine: The Ups and Downs of Producing a Children’s Program,” join the show. Monday’s regular segment “Education for Liberation with Bill Ayers” looks at the state of education across the country. What’s happening in our schools, colleges, and universities, and what impact does it have on the world around us? Today focuses on the teacher strikes across the nation with Bill Ayers, an activist, educator and the author of the book “Demand the Impossible: A Radical Manifesto.” President Trump killed any hope for a DACA deal just minutes before entering church on Easter Sunday, when he tweeted about an imaginary caravan of illegal immigrants making its way to the United States, that the U.S. does not have any border laws because liberals in Congress prevented them from being passed, and that he would kill NAFTA if Mexico doesn’t do more to close the border. All of Trump’s claims in these tweets are demonstrably false. Carolyn Gomez, a labor organizer and community activist, joins the show. China announced an additional $3 billion in tariffs on US goods, including pork, fruits, and seamless steel pipes, in the wake of President Trump’s initiation of a trade war with that country. The new Chinese tariffs will hit farmers in many states that Trump won in the 2016 election. Jude Woodward, London mayor Ken Livingstone's advisor on culture and creative industries and the author of the new book “The US vs China: Asia's new Cold War?” and Sputnik news analyst Walter Smolarek join Brian and John. The hosts look at the underlying reasons. An internal audit of the Defense Logistics Agency by the Big Four accounting firm of Ernst & Young found that the Pentagon failed to keep track of nearly $800 million that it now cannot account for. January 1 marks the 59th year of the victory of the Cuban Revolution against the Batista dictatorship. With this victory, the Cuban people were able to chart a new course for the development of society, one that put the needs of the workers before the profit margins of U.S. corporations. Despite 59 years of U.S.-backed counterrevolutionary plots, Cuba has continued to completely reverse the oppression and economic impoverishment wrought by the Batista dictatorship. Cuba now leads the way in LGBTQ rights, women's rights, and is making great strides in medical technology, proving that a socialist society can undo in decades the oppressive social structures that capitalism took centuries to impose. But the fight is not yet over. The presidencies of Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Trump alike have seen both overt attempts to penetrate Cuban society with international finance capital via the tourism industry, as well as subversive acts by U.S. regime change operatives to completely subvert Cuban democracy. Whether in the guise of economic "freedom" or ruthless blockade of badly needed resources, the U.S. continues to invest massive resources into overthrowing the Cuban government - resources that could have been spent to provide healthcare and education to its own population. Despite these threats, the Cuban experiment of radical democracy rooted in the community remains strong. This week, we talk to Gloria La Riva, the 2016 presidential candidate for the Party for Socialism and Liberation, about the history of the Revolution and the state of Cuba today. Gloria La Riva just returned from her most recent trip to Cuba, where she observed Cuban society, visited several key locations including a major center for biotechnology research, and studied the state of economic production on the island. This episode will cover a diverse array of Cuba-related issues from a perspective never heard in corporate media. After the show, this interview will be available on Soundcloud, iTunes, and Stitcher. As the news that Trump will be the next President and Commander In Chief sinks in, the country and the world continue to react. What does Trump’s victory as someone who entered the race as a complete outsider with no prior political experience mean for both U.S. politics and the world? How did he tap into the disaffection of millions of people by taking on the establishment, and how did it all go so wrong for Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party? Would things have been different in Bernie Sanders had been the Democratic nominee, and will a Trump presidency be ushered in amidst mass protest against his divisive policies?

On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker is joined by former CIA analyst and activist Ray McGovern to analyze Hillary Clinton's speech to the American Legion. Clinton addressed the Legion’s National Convention in Cincinnati on Wednesday, threatening China, Russia and Iran in a chest-thumping and highly militaristic speech. Is she the second coming of George W. Bush? Also on Wednesday, in a surreal scene, Donald Trump spoke alongside Mexico’s President Enrique Nieto in Mexico City. But his softer tone there quickly vanished when he gave his major immigration speech saying that Mexico would 100 percent pay for a wall and promised mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. Becker is joined by Juan Jose Gutierrez of the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition and Gloria La Riva, 2016 Presidential candidate of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. The integrity of U.S. elections has been making headlines recently as the Clinton camp throws accusations about Russian hacking and the Trump campaign speaks vaguely about voting in key states being “rigged” and “cheating going on”. But is it actually companies such as Google that have the biggest chance of swaying the results of the upcoming election? Joining Becker to decipher the truth behind the manipulation of elections is Dr. Robert Epstein, author and Senior Research Psychologist at the American Institute for Behavioral Research and Technology.

For decades, groups based in Miami, Florida have launched literally hundreds of terrorist attacks against the Cuban people and Cuban Nationals. These include bombings, assassinations, and particularly boatloads of weapons sent to Cuba to be used against its citizens. It is estimated that at least 3,478 people have died, and 2,009 have been injured as a direct result of these acts of terrorism. [3] The Cuban government, quite reasonably, sought to thwart such attacks. Five Cuban Intelligence officers: Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, and René González were dispatched to infiltrate and monitor these Miami-based groups to protect their countrymen. They did succeed in uncovering some of these plots. On September 12, 1998, these men were arrested and indicted on a charge of Espionage Conspiracy. [4] They were sentenced to lengthy prison sentences including 17 months in solitary confinement! Supporters of the Five argue that the trial which indicted the men was fundamentally unfair, that they have been subjected to cruel and unusual punishment and that the prosecution was politically motivated. Two of the Five, Fernando Gonzalez, and René Gonzalez have been freed, but the other three remain locked up. One of the men, Gerardo Hernandez, faces TWO life sentences plus a fifteen year sentence on top of that. In this episode of the Global Research News Hour, special guest interviewer Lesley Hughes interviews Gloria La Riva, an organizer with the National Committee to Free the Five (quoted above) and the first of the five to be freed, René González. President Obama, YES YOU CAN free the Cuban Five!
