**This episode is brought to you by MuteSix, Gorgias, and Attentive** “The game is to be sold, not to be told” remarks Hadiyah while talking about her experiences seeking out mentors. In part 2, Hadiyah Daché, Founder and CEO of Fairy Glow Mother mentioned that business can be hard for people of color when lacking the access to resources. The approach of reading a lot of trade publications, skincare research, and figuring out who the “behind-the-scenes people” are and reaching out have proved beneficial for her. As for products she focuses on results instead of just selling products. Most beauty businesses fail within 18 months, and the majority don't even see more than fifty thousand dollars annual revenue. According to her, it's all about math. Hadiyah calculated everything at the beginning which kept her going. She advises people to do the math and find a local mentor. She talked about: * Being a founder and person of color * What was her approach * Her advice for businesses * Successful people * Favorite rappers * Products Join Ramon Vela and Hadiyah Daché as they break down the inside story on The Story of a Brand. In part 1, we have Hadiyah Daché, Founder and CEO of Fairy Glow Mother, a budding skincare empire based in Oakland, California. Hadiyah had worked in tech and marketing in the past, but she felt bored. She got on to the beauty industry by starting a part-time skincare studio in 2018. Her studio specializes in treating acne, hyperpigmentation, and transition. But in 2020, the pandemic led her to quit her full-time job and take her beauty services studio as a full-time job. The name 'Fairy Glow Mother' came to her randomly in the middle of the night. While the pandemic is tragic, she feels it provided the motivation and environment to get her skincare products jumpstarted. In this week's episode, host Rafael Otto speaks with Hadiyah Miller, president of of the Oregon Association for the Education of Young Children (ORAEYC) and chairperson of Black Child Development PDX about combating the expulsion and suspension of Black children in early learning. Guest Hadiyah Miller is the current president of the ORAEYC and works as the African American Family Childcare Network Coordinator at the Childcare Resource and Referral of Multnomah County. She also serves as the Early Childhood Chairperson for the board of Black Child Development PDX. Summary Miller shares how Black Child Development PDX connects community members, Black leaders, and allies to change outcomes for young Black children in Portland. She explains that their present focus is on preventing the expulsion and suspension of Black children in early learning. This work is being done by elevating the Black experience and the Black voice in the legislature, and by supporting teachers to identify and fight their implicit biases so they can begin to shift how they respond to Black children. Background Research has shown that Black children make up 18 percent of preschoolers, but make up nearly half of all out-of-school suspensions. Different standards exist in schools for white children, and implicit bias plays a role in teachers responses to the actions of Black children. Kids who are suspended or expelled from school are more likely to drop out, and those dropouts are more likely to end up with criminal records. This is known as the “school-to-prison pipeline.” Get Involved ORAEYC will be hosting two different communities of practices starting in December 2020. These events will be open to anyone who is interested in this relationship-based learning experience focused on equity and social justice. Visit their website at www.oraeyc.org.

Names pronouned and spelled incorrectly is the lead topic this week as Sharon welcomes Hadiyah Robinson (hrcomedy-dot-com) to the ol' guest star chair. The different levels of freaky are discussed next. After a whiskey shot, Hadiyah and Sharon mull over how people always die in stories on The Moth. Join Host Virginia S Grenier on Monday May 20, 2013 at 3:30pm EST as she chats with Hadiyah Joan Carlyle about her memior "Torch in the Dark". Torch in the Dark tells the moving story of how Hadiyah Joan Carlyle, a single mother haunted by memories of her own traumatic childhood, pioneered as one of the first women since World War II to enter the trades as a union welder. Hadiyah Joan Carlyle grew up in a Jewish immigrant neighborhood in New Jersey, became active in the Civil Right movement of the sixties and migrated to San Francisco's colorful Haight-Ashbury to be part of the counter-culture there. In the seventies, she was the first and only female shipyard welder in Bellingham, Washington, north of Seattle. In the eighties, Hadiyah returned to the East coast to earn her MSW at Rutgers University. In 2003, she completed the certificate program in Memoir Writing through the University of Washington Extension. She is an active member of Seattle's thriving community of writers. Top O' the Mornin' To Ya! I've always wanted to type that! Lucky for us, WDEK was recorded live on St. Patrick's Day, and Irish Christian Felix made us some tasty Guinness Chocolate pudding to enjoy during the show. Our special guest was comedienne, former MTV employee and all around awesome lady, Hadiyah Robinson. She claims she is Irish too. We are all frightened of bed bugs and roaches. Have you been to John Early's Showgasm? It is frighteningly wonderful. There are a number of ways to burn off your hair. Men, we've said it before, please don't groom yourself too much or too little. Easy enought, right? Hadiyah does not like male back hair. Shonali does not like ear hair. Christian tells Shonali to embrace her baby moustache. Do you have a kickstarter campaign? Justin was part of a terrible Kickstarter campaign. If you have one, let us know and we will post the link on to our FB page please. We just may donate to it. We'll have to think about it. Hadiyah is from Michigan. She performs stand up all around the city and on tv. Please check out Hadiyah's 365 Days for Oprah here. Crazy coincidence that Hadiyah is featured in the April issue of O Magazine, which drops on March 19th, her birthday. Today! There is a Brooklyn expermental jazz electronic duo called Live Footage. Their tune Nomadic Ant ends the show. Alright ya'll, we hope you enjoy.
