Episode 197 - Happy Dad, Healthy Family, Joyful Fatherhood Without GuiltDads often neglect their own happiness in favor of family needs, but prioritizing personal joy and open communication is critical for the well-being of the entire family and the health of relationships. Making time for hobbies, self-care, and sharing these needs with a partner—as well as letting go of guilt—helps dads stay recharge, remain engaged, and model healthy emotional behaviors for their children.Making Time for YourselfBusy dads can reclaim "me time" through intentional strategies such as scheduling personal activities, setting boundaries, starting with small time commitments (as little as 15–30 minutes a day), integrating family and personal interests, and practicing mindfulness. Suggestions include engaging in hobbies, regular exercise, solo outings (like seeing a movie or getting a massage), and spending time with friends.Rekindling Joy Guilt-FreeMany fathers feel guilty for enjoying personal activities away from family, but embracing hobbies and interests helps recharge energy and enrich identity—making for better parenting. Communication and reciprocity with a partner are essential: encourage each other to pursue interests and recognize everyone's unique needs for self-care. Letting go of guilt leads to happier, more balanced fatherhood.Talking With Your PartnerHaving an honest conversation with a partner is crucial. Express what you need in terms of self-care—time, activities, and support—and invite your partner to share their needs too. Approach it as a two-way, empathetic discussion focused on “refilling your cup” so you're present, fulfilled, and better able to support your family. Implementing a clear and mutual plan ensures both partners understand and honor each other's needs.Impact on Family Health and RelationshipsA dad's well-being is strongly tied to family health, children's development, and relationship satisfaction. When fathers model healthy self-care and emotional fulfillment, children benefit from improved attachment, confidence, academic achievement, and psychological health. Involved, happy dads create nurturing environments where the whole family thrivesHere is an action-oriented summary that dads can use and apply right away to find more joy, prioritize happiness, and support their families through intentional self-care:Action Steps for DadsCommit to Prioritizing Your Well-Being: Make a conscious decision to value your happiness and self-care as essential, not optional. Recognize that when you care for yourself, you model healthy behavior and improve the family's well-being.Schedule “Me Time” Regularly: Block out time in your calendar each week for hobbies, interests, exercise, or peaceful downtime. Treat this time as non-negotiable and just as important as other commitments.Acknowledge Your Emotions: Notice and accept your feelings—whether stress, joy, or anxiety—without judgment. Express your needs and feelings openly, so you're less likely to bottle them up.Talk to Your Partner: Share openly about your need for personal time and fulfillment. Frame the conversation around being your best self for your partner and family. Invite them to share their needs as well and work on a plan together.Reconnect with Your Passions: Restart a hobby or activity that once brought joy. Let go of guilt—making time for healthy interests helps recharge your mental, emotional, and physical health.Stay Connected: Maintain friendships and build community—especially with other dads. Social support makes it easier to process challenges and celebrate joys.Stay Active: Add movement to your daily routine, like walking, biking, or playing a sport. Physical activity is a proven stress reliever and energizer.Ask for Help When...

The primary challenge of licensing lies in maintaining brand consistency across different artistic mediums. For example, what best personifies an iconic Hip Hop artist, group, or even record label…in the form of a packaged beverage? It's not the easiest design objective to flawlessly commercialize. Especially when you consider that mismatching the IP and the licensed product can pose a significant threat to the brand's reputation and image. We've seen a brand like Wu-Tang Clan seemingly pluck strategies straight out of their music. As I'm still confused about a brand named HARD that only sells non-alcoholic beverages. Alternatively, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg approached it more intentionally by collaborating on an RTD cocktail inspired by the duo's iconic “Gin & Juice” song. But even selecting the right partners (with Happy Dad Seltzer) helped Death Row Records be successful within packaged beverages. This week we return to John's Hollywood condo for a freewheeling conversation with the one and only Timmy “Bounceback” Bader. Timmy is maybe best known to our audience for his appearances on The NELK Boys Podcast and his Ripper Magoo partnership with friend of the podcast, Bob Menery. The fact remains that Timmy has a truly eclectic set of talents and life experiences that have shaped him into everyone's favorite “Uncle” of the internet. Timmy and John dive into his unlikely rise to fame, his experiences with Howard Stern, the truth about his crazy uncle persona and living the life in Hollywood. Timmy unpacks his relationship with NELK, Happy Dad, and Bob Menery, addressing some of the misconceptions about him while acknowledging and recalling some of his rather infamous lost nights of partying and high stakes gambling. In addition to recalling his war stories from the LA nightlife, John and Timmy also discuss the many networking and business opportunities that come with the accessibility to celebrity that LA offers. The guys also jump into the origins of Bounceback Beer, a one of a kind, easy to drink during the day lite beer Timmy created with the team over at Purple Banter. We're back after a short break as David drinks Rhinegiest Hustle while Gary tries a Happy Dad Seltzer in fruit punch flavor.David talks about baseball starting a few weeks ago, and how Cincinnati has an abundance of baseball-themed beers. One such beer is Rhinegiest Hustle, an 6% IPA with notes of citrus, peach, tangerine, and mango. In keeping with the baseball talk, we chat about how MLB teams are extending beer sales longer due to the new pitch clock shortening games. We also talk about a famous Kentucky priest releasing an extremely rare barrel pick from Willett, and how two bottles are already reserved for the pope and Shaq. We also try to decide if we can think of two more famous people than those two.We also debut the new hit game show “bourbon or baby food” where David reads a description and Gary tries to decide if it describes bourbon (or whiskey) or baby food.Happy Dad Seltzer has 1 gram of sugar, 100 calories, and is gluten-free.Use our code “BeersBeards10” for 10% off at Rivalry Brews Support us and get a free trial of Amazon Music by heading over to their website.Check out our full list of Craft Beer Reviews and Bourbon Reviews on our website. From the beginning, the light hearted fun spirit entertainer led the conversation as Ryan and Fred peeled back the layers of Druski learning and understanding how his journey has shaped the person he is today. Becoming famous and most well-known for his hilarious skits on Instagram, Druski first went viral in 2017 with a skit of him counting one-dollar bills that accumulated over millions of views and helped him amass a social media following with close to 6M followers on all platforms. successfully turning his life experiences into a million-dollar business. Being raised by parents who stressed education first, Ryan asks Druski what made him stray from the academic route and turn to comedy. He shares that when he first got to college, he realized it wasn't for him and began chasing his passion. Druski credits his mother for playing a huge role in who he's become today and how his mom's support and influence was key to his comedic success. Sharing his long term goals, Druski talks about how he would love the opportunity to act in a biopic, impersonating Heavy D if he had to pick and eventually forging his place atop the list of best comedians ever. Being able to receive respect and acknowledgement from industry idols such as Issa Rae and Kevin Hart, Druski jokes that hanging with Jack Harlow and Drake is cool but it wasn't until he started turning the heads of females that he knew he made it. Opening up about trying to find his calling and realizing through a lot of odd jobs he has had over the years that he never felt like he was in the right place but normalizing wanting more for yourself has been a big part of Druski's climb to the top. Although he went through a dark transition period, Druski isn't afraid to share what those moments were like and believes that every person needs to go through some tribulations and be tested. Helping others through his story, his message to young people is to disconnect from phones and the internet once in awhile and learn to sit with yourself to really have moments of reflection. Druski gives an exclusive look into what fans should expect from his first-ever “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda", a 30-city comedy tour presented by Happy Dad and he also mentions a few staples that will keep people entertained as well as lean into the surprise element with guests and moments.
