This episode takes us deep into the mountains of Central Idaho with show host Sam, and friends Galen, Chris and Ben. Earlier in 2024 this crew packed in 25 miles on horseback for what would turn out to be an epic and extreme backcountry experience! Challenged by difficult access and extreme terrain, this crew overcame many challenges during a week in the "steep and deep" country. This podcast comes directly from Elk Camp, recorded around the fire on the last evening in the mountains. The men reflect on the week, the highs and the lows, their appreciation for the pack animals, and above all the highlight of the trip when they called in a bull on day 5, playing him into archery range and the successful moments that followed! This is an experience these men will never forget, and we are happy to have you all join them! Picture this: a serene waterfall cascading over rocks, a herd of buffalo roaming freely, and the profound beauty settling in the simple acts of giving without expectation. That's where Harmony begins our journey in this conversation, using these powerful symbols to set the stage for a deep exploration of connection, identity, and reciprocity. Join our online community here to discuss this episode with us and so much more!Harmony Cronin, our animalistic friend, shares her profound insights on death, gifts, and the metamorphosis of life reincarnate that bestows upon us Earth's gift of animacy. We explore how the internet can bridge geographical gaps while also destroying the very essence of life. We navigate the knots of virtual communication, the discomfort of seeing oneself on screen, and the surprisingly beautiful connections forged through something as simple as a cold email. As we venture further, we tackle the intricate dance of personal identity in the digital age. The anxiety of condensing multifaceted lives into bios, the disconnection it reveals, and the ancient wisdom that we've strayed from. We confront the societal expectations that force us into boxes, contrasting them with more holistic, kincentric views of identity. We also discuss how courses like Sacred Ecoliteracy can help us break free from these constraints and reconnect with our surroundings in a meaningful way.Our conversation takes a profound turn as we reconnect with animals and nature, emphasizing respect, humility, and the deep-seated animism within us. We contemplate our perpetual indebtedness (a gift of debt) to the natural world, the philosophical recognition of animism. The episode wraps up with reflections on simplicity, ancestral wisdom, and cultivating a responsible, appreciative way of living in harmony with all life. From the Buffalo Bridge project and cross-cultural connections to the importance of recreating ceremonies and honoring lost cultural legacies, this episode is a heartfelt invitation to embrace interconnectedness in every aspect of our lives.Key takeaways:The concept of animism challenges the dominant worldview that separates humans from the rest of the natural world.Embracing animism can be a transformative experience that deepens our connection to earth: we are in and of her circle. The death process is metamorphosis. Reconciling with the death that feeds us is essential for the true integration of life.Acknowledging and caring for all beings, including animals and plants, is crucial for a sustainable and inclusive way of living.Dismantling colonial mindsets is crucial for developing a more holistic and reciprocal relationship with the natural world.Participating in sacred and ceremonial practices and living in alignment with one's purpose brings a sense of wholeness and wellness.Harmony Cronin is an Animistic Apocalyptic Viking Warrior princess dedicated to keeping Ancestral Traditions alive. These are interesting times, people. And if you are planning your hunting camp this year, you've got to think about camp security. I'm talking about who is watching your camp when you're not there? More and more transients and drifters are living in the woods, in Washington and Oregon and Texas and New Mexico, and they want your generator to sell at the pawn shop and they'll take your truck and your guns. Sometimes at the point of a gun. Don't believe me? Well, let me tell you a story, the way I heard it from a state trooper. And then get serious about your camp security this year. It's November and the whitetail deer rut is on across much of North America. People all over the deer hunting world are gathering together in tents, campers, tar paper shacks and cabins to share time together. Hunting is the purpose, but the camp and it's atmosphere is what most of them long for throughout the other 51 weeks of the year. Hunting and fishing camps are places that men, women and children get to share in the outdoor experience. There is definitely a call to God's Great Outdoors for millions of people each year and relations are built and strengthened over the years. Today's guest has been a friend with our host for several years and the two have been blessed to share time in hunting camps together. On today's show, we'll share some current hunts and some good memories. Light a fire in the fireplace, grab a cup of coffee or cocoa and join Dean as he shares some time around the table at a Michigan hunting camp!

Linda Powell is no stranger to those who hunt and shoot. In the outdoor world she has made a definitive "mark"! It's been my pleasure and honor to have known "Ms. Linda" for a goodly number of years and during that time calling her a dear friend even though for several years we worked for competitive gun companies. For the past several years Linda has been deeply involved with Mossberg and their PR, Media and Marketing. She is a serious hunter and outdoors person with a tremendous amount of experience. Even though she did not start out as a hunter, she has now hunted throughout the world. Linda too was instrumental in my hunting with Mossberg Patriot rifles. I recently was able to catch with my friend while sharing a black bear hunting camp with her and a few other friends. I know you will enjoy and appreciate her insight and some of her experiences which we addressed within this episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Mike sits down in deer camp after the second evening of the hunt to recap his trip so far with our hunt host, Waylan, and Podcast host Sam. Mike talks about his experience thus far, what it's like to hunt in "the middle of nowhere", expectations vs reality, memorable moments from the weekend, and more! Ever since I can remember, my Dad and our friend Rich Meyer have spent time hunting together every year at some sort of hunting camp. I was lucky to have many great hunting mentors as a kid and along with my grandpas and dad I was also greatly influenced by the guys at camp. Before I was old enough to tag along with my dad and his friends, I couldn't wait for him to come home and tell me the stories of everything that happened on their trip. Eventually when I was 12 years old, I started tagging along with them on their annual deer and turkey hunting trips and couldn't wait for the next one. Over the years I learned a ton from those guys and I'll never forget the memories we made. In this episode, Doug, Rich, and I talk about some of our best stories from the days that we spent at camp and some of the things we learned hunting together.
