Welcome to the one year anniversary of FIVE DOLLAR BUZZ. This is our 46th episode and we're happy that it drops on the very same day as our first. What do you think you know about mushrooms? You know there are mushrooms you can eat, mushrooms that make you high and mushrooms that can kill you. What do you know about the medicinal properties of mushrooms? Chaga mushrooms help aging, inflammation, and lowering cholesterol. Lion's Mane helps with cognition, memory and concentration. Reishi helps with sleep, anxiety, depression and focus. There is a Pacific-Northwest company that features prominently in mushroom cultivation and creating various products including tinctures, sprays, gummies and raw. Their name is Hyphae Wellness (www.gethyphae.com) and they are a leading non-pharmaceutically sponsored manufacturer and supplier of all of these wonderful products and MORE... Hyphae Wellness has a sister company called TAO Gardens (www.taogardens.com), a sustainable, holistic, no-till marijuana grower. As it says, they also cultivate, manufacture and supply various strains of high-grade cannabis. Now, put the two together...and you have a wellness kit that delivers medicinal mushrooms with a solid buzz to help ease you into whatever direction your body and mind want to go. What got our immediate attention is that the mushroom helps the cannabis act quicker in gummies, from what is usually 45 minutes to five minutes. Hell yes. No more eating seven weed cookies because "you don't feel it yet," after you ate the first two. That'll teach you. So, finish your creamy mushroom pasta, swallow a few gummies, kick your feet up and take a listen as we talk with COO and Co-Founder of both Hyphae Wellness and TAO Gardens, Mr. Nick Ciufo, as he talks about all things mushrooms and weed, about how his company does it better, the unique delivery system they have in place and where they plan on going in the future. And remember, please, hit "like" for this episode and "subscribe" to our channels on our current platforms; YouTube, iTunes and Spotify. You can email us with questions, comments, possible topics or guests at FIVEDOLLARBUZZ@gmail.com. We'll get back to you as soon as we can get off the couch watching animated "Cowboy Bebop" reruns and eating a bowl of popcorn, two Twinkies, a hot fudge sundae and the entire can of whipped cream (well, after we've sucked just enough nitrous oxide to make sure we can get the rest of that cream whipped).
In this week's episode, Brad and Evan discuss incident response retainers, the market, sizes, and categories of IR providers, and the difference between IR retainers and managed IR.They also touch on Project Hyphae, a new goodwill threat hunting initiative powered by FRSecure, and FRSecure's annual Hacks and Hops event which took place last Thursday, October 14th.Project Hyphaehttps://projecthyphae.com/Hacks and Hopshttps://hacksandhops.com/Give episode 151 a listen or watch and send any questions, comments, or feedback to unsecurity@protonmail.com Don't forget to like and subscribe!

Join us as we discuss an interesting scientific paper about an emerging disease, Mucormycosis, in marine mammals caused by fungi. Fungal diseases are rare in marine mammals, so the fact that this has been noted 21 times since 2012 is concerning. We will learn about the disease, which species are most affected and discuss how and why this may be happening. This is the time when fungi, toadstools, mushrooms are popping up all over the place.Cooler days and nights, moister conditions favour the many species that release their spores into the air, soil, or water. Those spores create a mycelium … a “mat” of while root-like structures (Hyphae), which indeed act like the root system of plants. These hyphae are just minute! The thickness of one cell-wall!You can see these hyphae if you start fossicking around in compost heaps or under rotting logs in the forest. When hyphae combine they form a “fruiting body” – often in the form of a toadstool or mushroom; in fact they can be any fungal form, really…Those fruiting bodies are of course the organ that produces and releases billions of spores which are released for reproduction. They are also the way mycologists identify which species they are dealing with.Fungi perform a number of ecosystem “services”;Decomposition is the most well-known job: crating compostable materials from wood, twigs, leaves, and any organic material that “once lived”. Fungi “see” the timber from which your house is made as nothing more than a fallen tree in the forest and its job is to get rid of that fallen wood and de-construct its form and molecular framework, so that other composters (further down the line) can take over and slowly but surely break it all down into food for the next generation of plant life… (nutrient cycling)These fungi are growing in a compost heap – they are the “finishing touch” to making compost for the garden.Fungi have been on our planet much longer than plants: 1.3 billion years; (Plants about 700 million years); They are not related to plants as many people may think – they are their own separate Kingdom and are actually closer related to animals (humans!!) than plantsGo outside when you can; get into the woods with a smart-phone loaded with iNaturalist and log what’s around on the moist soil and litter and under rotting logs. Fungi are MAGIC and could well hold the key for human survival and technology on the planet!Just Google “Paul Stamets” and you’ll find the most incredible stories.LISTEN TO AUDIO ABOVE
It feels like forever! After the Mycelium Martian Dome, prototype 1,0 went up we needed some serious downtime to recoup. We left a panel growing at the Dressler's for over two weeks now so, we thought we better check-in! Out of its growing chamber, it was slowly drying. It felt only a day or two out and hyphae could be seen growing in valleys and crevices. I gently nestled the electrodes down into some hyphae clumps and started recording. About a minute in I gave the mycelium some water in places then we went and kicked back for a bit allowing it to do its thing. After thirty or so minutes we went back in and I made a connection between myself and the Hyphae. Not expecting anything to happen. Then 38 minutes in the Mycelium and I are making a connection. Thanks for listening! Nighty night.
The Gardening with Joey & Holly radio show Podcast/Garden talk radio show (heard across the country)
Replay of segment 2 of The Wisconsin Vegetable Gardener Radio Show from 8-11-18 on 860AM WNOV and W293cx 106.5 FM Milwaukee WI, listen here during show hours Saturdays 9-10 am CST https://tinyurl.com/zvh5kaz Thank you for listening and downloading the show. Topics: Joey and Holly talk about what is Mycorrhizae and how it helps plants - mycorrhizae (my-coh-rise-eh), and they live in a symbiotic relationship with the plant itself. Mycorrhizae are actually a fungus. They exist as very tiny, almost or even entirely microscopic, threads called hyphae. The hyphae are all interconnected into a net-like web called a mycelium, which measures hundreds or thousands of miles—all packed into a tiny area around the plant. Mycorrhizae are actually a fungus. They exist as very tiny, almost or even entirely microscopic, threads called hyphae. The hyphae are all interconnected into a net-like web called a mycelium, which measures hundreds or thousands of miles—all packed into a tiny area around the plant. Mycorrhizae actually connect to plants in two ways. One form, called ectomycorrhizae, simply surrounds the outside of the roots. Another form, called endomycorrhizae, actually grows inside of the plant—their hyphae squeeze in between the cell wall and the cell membranes of the roots (sort of like wedging themselves in between a bicycle tire and the inner tube). Under normal conditions, you’re not likely to see mycorrhizae because they’re so small. But every once in a while, something amazing happens: the mycorrhizae will reproduce and send up fruiting bodies that produce spores – mushrooms plants feed their own mycorrhizae. Plants will take excess sugar produced in the leaves through photosynthesis and send it to the roots. From here, the mycorrhizae are able to absorb it to sustain themselves. The sugar from the plants literally keeps the mycorrhizae fed and alive. Mycorrhizae can help protect their plants against diseases and toxins https://thewisconsinvegetablegardener.com/radio/ check out highlights of past show podcast and video https://thewisconsinvegetablegardener.com/video-series/highlights-podcast/ Email your questions to TWVGshow@gmail.com tweet us as #twvg or @twvgshow The show runs March - Oct Saturday morning’s 9-10am cst Check out the following sponsors that Make the radio show possible: IV Organics: http://ivorganics.com/ MI Gardener: http://migardener.com/ Use coupon code SHARE10 to save 10% off your 1st order.
