He is the face of UFC, and superstar of Mixed Martial Arts–the fastest growing sport in America. In 1998, he won his first Mixed Martial Arts fight, soon after joining the UFC to become the #1 ranked light-heavyweight contender in the world. He is a walking lethal weapon. Today, Chuck Liddell shares how his love for martial arts, the camaraderie of fight camp, and unresolved health issues fueled his return. He candidly discusses the difficulties athletes encounter in retirement, comparing experiences with other sports figures like Jake Herbert. Additionally, Chuck emphasizes the importance of financial stability and alternative opportunities post-retirement, reflecting on his own journey aided by a continued role with the UFC until its sale. Welcome back, tonight we're joined by our friend Jake Herbert to discuss West Ham's recent form before getting into the immaculate run of Aston Villa & Fulham before touching on Everton v. Chelsea and more. Cheers!
Hard work makes the dream work. If we want to achieve a goal, we have to put all our effort into achieving it no matter what. But what does putting in all our effort mean? If we want to go all out when we do something, we need to think about it like there is something on the line. This will help us intensify our feelings and put in the greatest effort to win or attain our goal. Sometimes, people are afraid to make mistakes and which hinders them to grow and learn. Jake Herbert shares his personal experiences, learnings, and advice with the next generation of leaders. Sometimes we believe that we have already made an effort. However, we need to recognize that our efforts are insufficient, and we must continue to invest time and effort in order to improve ourselves and do our best. Witness as young leaders ask questions about life, personal development, entrepreneurship, and other topics! Quotes: “You're gonna be able to go by and watch your friend touch the oven and go, wow, that's hot, I don't want to touch that and burn it. But some of you are gonna have to go touch that up in yourself. And it's not the end of the world. It's just another opportunity for learning and growth..” – Jake Herbert “For men in particular, you have bestowed the honor of being considered a good man who is good at being a man by other men. And you have to earn it. It is not something that is just freely given because it shouldn't be freely given. There are struggles; you have to show grit, honor, and responsibility.” – Matt Beaudreau “You want to do the right thing when nobody's watching. And it's not just an outward thing. It's more of an inward thing. You don't earn self-respect and self-confidence when you shortcut. You can say all the affirmations in the world. But if your own brain doesn't tie it back to doing the right thing, whether somebody's been there or not. That's what you dwell on. You don't believe the affirmations that you just put out because you know you're full of it. That doesn't go away.” – Matt Beaudreau Takeaways: Experience is there for us to learn and grow. It is an opportunity that you want to take no matter what. It helps us to make the right choices going forward in our life. It feels good, and it is a privilege when other men recognize you as a good man. But you have to earn it by overcoming struggles and doing your responsibilities as a man. Even if you are alone and no one is watching you, you must still do the right thing. In this way, you can earn self-respect and self-confidence. Conclusion: Go all out, exert your effort to the maximum, and do your best in everything. Remember that mistakes help us learn and grow, making us wise to make the right decisions. Earn your honor as a man and be acknowledged by other men. Lastly, do the right thing no matter where you are to have self-respect and confidence as a human.

Jake Herbert is one of the greatest American wrestlers of all time. Sporting a 149-4 record at Northwestern, which included 2 undefeated seasons, Jake won 8 National Titles, 1 World Silver Medal, The Heisman Trophy of Wrestling, Big Ten Athlete of the Year and competed in the 2012 Olympics for USA. When asked how he achieved those staggering accolades, Jake boiled it down to one word: relentlessness. Whether in training sessions where he would routinely vomit, to pre-meet visualization that is 10X more intense than any fight could be (which he describes in full detail), Jake is relentless in everything he does. As expected, this has translated into his post-wrestling career as a Real Estate Agent and Personal Coach. One example of this is Jake's philosophy of the 4 B's: Body - Nutrition, exercise Balance - Spending time with his wife and two children Business - His lofty sales and personal coaching goals Being - Meditation, journaling and making sure your mind is right If you're able to do 1 solid thing in each of these categories every day, you're moving forward in the right direction. It won't always work and the 4 B's won't always be evenly split, but it's a long term strategy that pays massive dividends. His mission is "to leave people, places and things better than when I found them." And he believes that he can help 25 people earn $1M by the year 2025. And who am I to count him out? His mission is "to leave people, places and things better than when I found them." And he believes that he can help 25 people earn $1M by the year 2025. And who am I to count him out? Frankie Edgar comes on the Good Dad Project Podcast and shares amazing insight with our listeners on work ethic, family, and grit. This interview is EPIC on so many levels. About Frankie Edgar Frankie Edgar is a professional MMA fighter in the UFC. Frankie started his successful fighting career with a solid foundation of wrestling. Two-time State Place Winner for New Jersey, 2nd in HS Nationals in 2000, 4x Division 1 National Qualifier for Clarion University and College Freestyle All-American in 2004. He currently fights in the 155LB weight class in the UFC with 18 wins, 4 losses, and 1 Draw. Frankie has 3 kids – 2 boys and 1 girl. Frankie Edgar's Upbringing We are responsible for what we do, or for that fact, do not do. Frankie Edgar, UFC Champion fighter knows this very well. Growing up in New Jersey in a working class family, Frankie’s father showed his kids a life template for how to get through the good and rough times in life. Through his sacrifices for his family, Frankie learned from his own father that even when life doesn’t deal you a fair hand, it is up to the individual to do what is necessary to make the situation right. Extreme Ownership and Life Lessons of Wrestling Frankie took this mindset to the mat as a wrestler as well. Frankie says the sport is different from other sports in that when you lose a match, the blame falls solely on your shoulders. There’s no one else to point the finger at. You either pinned your opponent or you didn’t. And so it goes in life: those who are successful are willing to take the blame for their mistakes and also know how to take a lesson from those mistakes. Life Lessons Learned from the Cage In the cage, Frankie says, even when he is faced with mind-wrecking punches, he has to remain “cool, calm and collected and make rational decisions.” Demonstrating this in the ring and in his life, he is able to set the example for his children that even in the most trying conditions, a calm mindset will help to fully understand the situation and make the best decision. Take a Seat and Enjoy Even when it comes to his own children, and those he coaches, he says he “take a seat and enjoy." He gives the same advice to parents of athletes. Instead of forcing your own desires on your kids, give them a choice so they feel empowered and know that they can make the decisions that impact their lives. (This seems to be a pervasive theme among all elite athletes we’ve spoken with). Frankie Edgar on Teaching Grit Overall, Frankie Edgar wants to make sure his kids learn to have grit, be good people and have a sense of culture. When it comes to his kids, Frankie says, he goes with his gut. Free Resources: Check out our Dad Edge Group on Facebook Request Entry Here We have new Dad Edge T-Shirts! JUICY FRUIT
Hey there folks, we're ready for season two of the Short Time Wrestling Podcast. The last few months, we’ve gone with more of an interview-style show, and that’s how I’m going to keep it for the time being. I’ll still provide some updates of the happenings in wrestling, but they’ll be on the Monday and Friday shows. If you’re new to the podcast, and you’re here by simply hitting that play button, I’d encourage you to head over to mattalkonline.com/getshorttime to subscribe to the podcast with iTunes. It’s the easiest way to get this show with news, reviews, previews and interviews.Today we’ll talk with former James Madison head wrestling coach Jeff “Peanut” Bowyer, who’s the event director for the Matsplosion wrestling event coming to King of Prussia, Pennsylvania on Nov. 14-16. Before we get to Peanut -- yes, they still call him Peanut, we’ll run down a few happenings on the mats on Thursday, November 6.Three ranked teams were in action on the Division I level with two of them squaring off at McComb Fieldhouse in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. Former EWL rivals now in different conferences, it was 14th-ranked Pittsburgh upending 10th-ranked Edinboro 25-13. Dom Forys, a true freshman from North Allegheny, that’s the same high school as Jake Herbert, Ray Brinzer and Teague Moore – had a solid 6-0 win over 19th-ranked Korey Mines at 125. Edinboro would take the lead after a fall by A.J. Schopp anda major decision by Mitchell Port. Pittsburgh’s Edgar Bright didn’t step to the mat at 141. The Panthers were also without All-American Tyler Wilps at 174. Edinboro wrestled without All-American David Habat and freshman heavyweight Billy Miller. The key match down the stretch came at 184 pounds where fifth-ranked Max Thomusseit defeated 10th-ranked Vic Avery 10-5. Heading into heavyweight down 19-13, Edinboro needed a fall from Warren Bosch to send the dual to criteria. Bosch jumped out early on John Rizzo and while he was trying to turn late in the second period, Rizzo reversed Bosch to his back and quickly settled in for the fall to cement the upset. At Grace Hall in Bethlehem, Pa. 15th-ranked Lehigh had a vastly different look in a 24-9 win over Hofstra. Four new faces won matches, including true freshman Dylan Milonas at 157, Central Florida transfer Santiago Martinez at 165, Cornell transfer Marshall Peppelman at 174 and true freshman Scotty Parker at 125 – Shout out to R.P. Norley and those Pennridge Rams. At 184, Nathaniel Brown looked strong coming off his redshirt year, teching Jermaine John in the second period.Lehigh will face Penn State at Rec Hall on Sunday. Hofstra falls to 1-1.In Division II, 16th-ranked Upper Iowa rolled past Truman and NAIA Waldorf. Also in the NAIA, Central Baptist topped Arkansas Baptist 33-18.Now we’ll talk MATSPLOSION with the Executive Vice President of Level2Sports, Peanut Bowyer. Find more about it at www.matsplosion.comThe Short Time Time Wrestling Podcast is proudly sponsored by Flipswrestling. Share your attitude and be heard at Flipswrestling.com.
