May 21, 2023 - 6pm. West Side Community GardenIt was a delightful evening in the West Side Community Garden in Manhattan. The Bar Crawl Radio audio wagon was set up on the grass in front of the stage in the garden – as neighbors secured a chair or wooden planter ledge to listen to the Lew Tabackin Jazz Trio. Tenor saxophone and flute musician -- Mr Tabackin has been playing these summer concerts for many years. Jon Ross -- founder and director of MicroAid International -- joined us for a pre-concert warm-up conversation. We had talked with Jon about his work in building single family houses in areas hit by disaster on BCR #36 and #111. This evening we caught up with Mr Ross recent work with MicroAid -- and then asked him what he would do if he saw a stranger being attacked on the street – or subway. Then -- listen to a sampling of the evening's music played by the Lew Tabackin Jazz Trio with Boris Kozlov on bass and Jason Tiemann on drums – including two flute pieces by Tabackin “Garden and Lifetime” – and – “Out of this World” – a piece he wrote named after the “B Flat” Tokyo bar where he performs called – “B Flat Where Its At” -- a Billy Strayhorn standard – “Day Dream” -- and finally a bunch of tunes by George Gershwin. The podcast ends with 10 minutes of a longer interview I had with Mr. Tabackin in his UWS apartment in 2018. For the full interview see the additional material following this program. BCR Co-Hosts Rebecca McKean and Alan Winson Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

©️ 2022 3D Jazz Trio Jackie Warren - piano Amy Shook - contrabass Sherrie Maricle - drums #bebop --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/konstantins/message

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with The Denmark Jazz Trio Kosmos Trio .. I caught up with all three members via Zoom to talk about their new 2022 CD as their debut recording, the history of the band and the future ahead .. In an era of ever-changing projects and ideas, the band stands out as a group who've carved out their own sound and space in the Nordic jazz scene at an impressively young age. Initially inspired by the likes of Avishai Cohen, the trio's early days were spent exploring the complexities of odd meter which can clearly be heard in their compositional style. 471. It's our 10th Anniversary for the Louisiana Anthology website and the 9th for the Louisiana Anthology Podcast. We discuss our accomplishments over the last year. The Louisiana Anthology has reached almost 9,000,000 words and 230 authors. This year we also migrated the anthology to its new home, http://louisiana-anthology.org/. Hopefully by our next anniversary, our first print book will be out — Liberty in Louisiana, by James Workman. It is the oldest surviving play about Louisiana, out of print since 1804. Over the last year, we have added a number of works to the web site. The most significant one is Gumbo Ya-Ya, by Lyle Saxon and a team of WPA researchers. It is a collection of folklore about New Orleans and Louisiana in general. We also have the Louisiana Anthology Podcast with 470 episodes and counting, The Louisiana Anthology Cookbook is our cooking blog, with 1,400 recipes. Stay tuned for more great material this coming year! This week in Louisiana history. May 29, 1948. The Desire streetcars stopped running. This week in New Orleans history. May 28, 1964.
