A Note from James:Miesha Tate—at first, I've got to admit, I didn't know much about UFC or MMA. But Miesha was the World Bantamweight Champion, and she fought Ronda Rousey—probably the most famous female fighter in the sport. I watched one of their fights, and honestly, I don't know how I'd survive even a quarter of a second. But the conversation we had wasn't what I expected. Miesha opened up about the mindset behind championship success, the weight of public expectations, and how depression can still hit even after you've reached the top. We talked about how personal growth sometimes means burning down everything and rebuilding. This wasn't just about fighting—it was about resilience, reinvention, and figuring out what matters when the title belt doesn't solve your problems. It was raw, honest, and eye-opening. I look forward to talking with her again.Episode Description:What happens when you reach the top of your field—and it still doesn't fix what's broken inside?Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate shares the brutal truth about chasing success, surviving toxic relationships, and rebuilding her life from rock bottom. Send us a textWhat happens when a major financial merger puts wellbeing at the heart of its transformation strategy? Lucy Becque, Group Chief People Officer at Coventry Building Society, reveals the powerful impact this approach has had as they navigate combining with the Co-operative Bank – doubling their workforce overnight and bringing together distinctly different organizational cultures.Lucy shares how focusing on resilience through deliberate "firebreaks" – pauses in the relentless pace of change – has enabled leaders to maintain perspective and support their teams effectively. Rather than treating wellbeing as peripheral, they've placed it at the center of their strategy, achieving remarkable results including 91% of employees reporting they receive empathy and support from their managers when needed. The conversation explores practical, science-backed resilience techniques that don't create additional burden. From incorporating gratitude practices into commutes to walking meetings and authentic emotional conversations, these small habit changes have made a significant difference. Lucy explains how the neuroscience of change – particularly prefrontal cortex fatigue – influences decision-making and why addressing this physiological reality matters.Perhaps most fascinating is the nuanced discussion about psychological safety. While embracing the principles of creating environments where people can speak up and contribute fully, Lucy shares her concerns about how the terminology can sometimes be "weaponized" to avoid accountability. This highlights the importance of thoughtfully translating psychological concepts into organizational language that resonates authentically.Whether you're leading transformation or experiencing it, this episode offers valuable insights on building resilience, maintaining human connection during intense change, and creating cultures where people can truly belong and feel proud of their contribution.Episodes are available here https://www.thecpo.co.uk/ To follow Zircon on LinkedIn and to be first to hear about podcasts, publications and news, please like and follow us: https://www.linkedin.com/company/zircon-consulting-ltd/ To access the research white papers mentioned in this and other podcasts, please go to: https://zircon-mc.co.uk/zircon-white-papers.php For more information about the BeTalent suite of tools and platform please contact: TheCPO@zircon-mc.co.uk

TUNE IN TO LEARN: What separates those who achieve their goals from those who don't? It's not luck or resources—it's mindset. Let's dive deep into the psychology of achievement, revealing how to overcome many obstacles needed for your personal and business growth with great mental health feeling like a hero and having fun. The hard truth? You're not yet good enough for the dream you're pursuing—and that's exactly as it should be. Just as muscles don't develop by lifting lighter weights, your capacity for achievement doesn't expand by avoiding challenges. Every obstacle serves as the training ground where you develop the skills, resilience, and wisdom required for your next level. Let's together unpack powerful mindset frames used by successful entrepreneurs and top achievers in different fields. These are universal ways of thinking of people who despite hard stuff win BIG. The learning frame, the infinite game frame, the gains rather than gaps frame; the hero's journey frame, the evolution frame, the gratitude frame. Most fascinating is how these psychological shifts actually change your biology—stress either strengthens or weakens your body depending entirely on your perception of challenges. When you change your expectations into appreciation, the path to achievement—though still difficult—becomes infinitely more rewarding. In this episode of Life Rewired, Zach and Kristina share their personal approach to goal setting as a couple, breaking down how they use New Year's Eve to reflect and set intentional goals for the year ahead. They dive into their four main goal categories—personal, financial, business, and fitness—and how focusing on at least two meaningful goals per category creates clarity and purpose. Zach's word, alignment, serves as a guide to ensure his actions and goals align with his core values and purpose, avoiding the constant distraction that plagues many. They discuss the importance of personal development, including lessons from The Untethered Soul, Obstacle Is The Way and The Daily Stoic, and how meditation has been pivotal for building self-awareness and fostering emotional resilience. The duo underscores the critical link between understanding your "why" and following through with confidence. We've all heard the words of James 1:2 which remind us to, “Consider it pure joy my brothers and sisters when you face trials of many kinds.” But let's be honest there are moments where life is just flat out painful, and as the infamous movie character, Rocky Balboa, once taught us, “life will beat you to your knees and keep you there if you let it.” There are moments where it seems like no one hits as hard as life does. But then Rocky's words shift to encouraging us that, “it's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward… how much you can take and keep moving forward.” Sometimes all it takes is a shift in perspective to realize that we're never out of the fight. You see happiness is external, but joy is internal. Joy is a fruit of the spirit, and as our guest today reminds us, although there are moments that may seem difficult and challenging, we get the opportunity to surrender our burdens to the Lord and give control over to the Holy Spirit allowing His joy to then invade and flow through us. Today's guest is a man who, like all of us, is no stranger to challenge or adversity having endured plenty of painful and waiting seasons along his journey thus far. Our Built Different Guest today is the 3rd base coach for the 2023 World Series Champion Texas Rangers as well as the 2024 American League All-Star Team, Coach Tony Beasley!! To know Coach Beasley is to love him. This man is an incredible leader and truly possesses an unwavering and contagious joy that is a direct reflection of the Lord dwelling within him. In and throughout this episode Coach Beasley discusses how we can TRAIN for our TRIALS, the importance of fixating on God's promises rather than our problems, and some of the lessons he learned through some of the hardest seasons of his life. Trust us, this is a conversation you won't want to miss! Find Coach Beasley on Social Media: https://www.instagram.com/coachtonybeasley/

In a world filled with challenges, setbacks, and obstacles, there is one fundamental truth that separates those who succeed from those who falter: the unwavering commitment to never give up. It is the very essence of what makes us human – the ability to rise above adversity, to push beyond our limits, and to persevere in the face of overwhelming odds. Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; it's about learning to dance in the rain. It's about embracing the challenges that come our way, seeing them not as barriers but as opportunities for growth and self-discovery. It's about understanding that failure is not the opposite of success but rather an integral part of the journey towards it. When we refuse to give up, we tap into a reservoir of strength and resilience that we never knew we possessed. We become the architects of our own destiny, the masters of our own fate. We learn that our greatest limitations are not external but internal, and that by shifting our mindset, we can overcome any obstacle that stands in our way. The power of perseverance is not just a platitude; it is a fundamental law of the universe. It is the force that propels us forward, that drives us to keep going even when every fiber of our being is telling us to quit. It is the key to unlocking our full potential and achieving the extraordinary. So, my friends, I urge you to embrace the power of never giving up. To see every challenge as an opportunity, every setback as a stepping stone towards greatness. To understand that the only true failure is the failure to keep trying, to keep pushing, to keep believing in yourself and your dreams. In this episode, we will explore the ten essential lessons that will help you cultivate a resilient mindset and never give up on your journey towards success. Together, we will learn to harness the power of perseverance, to stay focused on our goals, and to keep moving forward no matter what life throws our way.

April was a huge month of racing + recovering and it's not quite time yet to begin fall race season. What are some common feelings that runners experience after training for a long time with one, singular goal, or after racing their “big” race of the season or year? How can a runner flow through a tough race day and the feelings that can come up in the weeks to follow the race? How can coaches help these athletes honor their feelings and move into a new season of running? What are the Marathon Blues, can any runner from the 5k to ultra experience these feelings? The association humans have as being a runners is HIGH, if a runner reaches their A+ goal or reached their big running goal, like running a certain time or running the Boston Marathon, how can that athlete shift their mindset to still enjoy running? “TRAINING BURNOUT” Overtraining, often referred to as burnout, is when the amount of training you do exceeds your recovery time, or when you push the body more than it can take with the amount of rest it's given. Symptoms can be physical or psychological - Chronic fatigue. Poor or worsening performance. What are the symptoms, flags, and signals we should be looking out for with training burnout - both as a runner for ourselves, a coach-to-athlete relationship, and our friends in the run club? How can a runner distinguish between burn out and just needing a flexible schedule, or other feelings? PERFECTIONISM runs deep in running - after all, some of us are type A. How does a runner who has strong perfectionism find a way to balance training, racing, and finding the joy on the days that don't go their way and avoid burnout? Have you ever seen an instance where a runner throws their hands in the air and says, no for me. I'm type A - I need every workout, pace, and week to feel perfect. I can't adjust to running on effort, or needing to hit paces, so I'm not going to train. These runners often doing what they love, which is running. Are there any mindset tools that can help a runner who thinks this way? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/1210115349/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/1210115349/support
