In this luminous return to the Hearts Rise Up podcast, sonic mystic and legendary space music composer Jonn Serrie invites us beyond the edges of music and into the sacred space where silence breathes, frequencies speak, and creativity plays like a child running free. What begins as a conversation unfolds as a cosmic remembering—a transmission on the soul of sound, the intelligence of texture, and the spiritual responsibility of the artist in an age of artificial intelligence. In this episode, Jonn weaves stories of childhood dreams, planetary awakenings, and divine synchronicities—revealing how music is not created but received, not engineered but lived. This is more than an interview. It's an initiation into the invisible forces that move through us when we dare to listen beyond the note, trust the muse's voice, and honor the stillness from which all sound is born.Episode Highlights00:00 Introduction03:15 The First Note as Sacred Threshold05:49 Texture Over Technique10:24 Composing from the Temple of Stillness11:00 Synthesizers as Living Beings14:11 Dancing with AI Without Losing the Soul15:57 Sound as Spiritual Weight18:05 The Vision Behind the Note20:10 Music as a Living, Breathing Intelligence21:33 The Voice of the Muse as a Child23:56 Initiatory Dreams & Spiritual Guide27:55 Creating from Cosmic Memory30:21 Returning to Compassionate Sound36:46 Music as Mirror and PortalHeart-centered Wisdom Shared38:55 "Keep that sense of play and creativity alive no matter what, because that's what it is. The gentle tones of the Native American cedar flute have propagated far beyond their origin — a rare case of a humble ethnic instrument succeeding on natural charm and sonic appeal. Resurrected from decades of cultural neglect by native musicians in the mid 20th century, it proved to be a versatile and satisfying instrument for both amateur and professional musicians. We like to revisit it in the fall, when its pentatonic minor scale seems to magically express the deepening energy and complex colors of the season. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, a Southwest autumn journey featuring the Native American flute, called MYSTIC CANYONS. Music is by COYOTE OLDMAN, JONN SERRIE & GARY STROUTSOS, SCOTT AUGUST, JOHNNY WHITEHORSE, JAMES MARIENTHAL, SHERRY FINZER, JOHN HULING, and KENNETH HOOPER. In the 1950s and 60s, the new sounds of electronic music emerged from academic laboratories in Europe and the United States. The motivations were self-consciously experimental, artistic, and technical. In Cologne, Germany, one great innovator was the powerful theorist and teacher KARLHEINZ STOCKHAUSEN. One of his surprising early discoveries was that unlike acoustic instruments, abstract electronic sounds seemed to create the impression of cosmic space. "In my imagination," Stockhausen said, "I can fly anywhere—to the stars—use the music as a flying device, to unify with the cosmic forces. I think it's important that...we are instruments ourselves, and that cosmic vibrations create sounds through us." It was the beginning of what we now call Electronic Spacemusic. Today, inexpensive instruments and recording software allow anyone to create electronic music, and the sounds of space are all around us — in music and film, games and video. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, another cosmic-electronic journey, on a program called STARSCAPES. Music is by VANGELIS, MICHAEL STEARNS, DAVE LUXTON, JIM OTTOWAY, JONN SERRIE, and JAJA (JANA ROCKSTROH). [ view playlist ] [ view Flickr image gallery ] [ play 30 second MP3 promo ]
THE FLUTE is perhaps the oldest musical instrument—a primitive but effective technology for turning breath into resonant sound, and eventually turning structured sound into music. Flutes arrived about 50,000 years ago in diverse cultures around the prehistoric world. In Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, ancient artisans made early flutes from reeds and grasses, and the hollow bones of animals and birds. The Anasazi tribes of the American Southwest made simple end-blown flutes from the soft, aromatic wood of western cedar trees. They were said to be used for courtship and healing. Typically tuned to a pentatonic minor scale, their plaintive sound seems to resonate with the wistful emotions of the fall season and the endless spaces of the Southwestern desert. The Native American flute was revived in the 1960s by the pioneering native label Canyon Records, who released hundreds of albums by native artists, including flute recordings by R.Carlos Nakai and others. The instrument became popular in the burgeoning New Age genre in the 1970s and 80s, and new age artists expanded into electronics, guitars, and other popular instruments. Today, the native flute scene is less active, but a core group of committed artists continue to extend the artistic dimensions of the genre, while the cedar flute is increasingly popular for therapeutic applications. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, an autumn journey in the gentle world of the Native American flute, on a program called HEALING WINDS. Music is by COYOTE OLDMAN, JOHNNY WHITEHORSE, JONN SERRIE & GARY STROUTSOS, KENNETH HOOPER, KIRK MONTEUX, JENN STEEGE, and ANN LICATER. It is that time of year, dear listeners, where we once again set sail in the celestial sea of diamonds in search of a better tomorrow, and seek the renewal of our mental energy and creative awakening. I'm here to assist you in your voyage, as you know that your old boy Tonepoet would never expect you to navigate blindly through the ether. It is you who will guide this ship through the pathway of stars, and I am more than happy to be your severely relaxed co-pilot. As we sail gently along this route, let's reflect on the things in the past that made us happy and engaged. As we bathe in this nostalgia, start to bundle up the negative energy and various letdowns of this past year so that we may set them afloat towards a black hole, never to be seen again. While you might not see it, there is a lighted path towards a better you, and a tree that sprouts positive vibe. Steer the craft towards this tree so that we may taste the nectar of positive energy and enlightenment. Understand that this tree withers and fades, and seems to lack the abundant life at times. Yet, this tree is constantly growing, even through the darker times, and replenishing it's weather beaten suit in effort to rise up in the seasons of growth and replenishment. This is not unlike us, dear listener, as we seek to keep growing, and still do so, even during the darkest of times. That period of perceived stagnation is only a readjustment. Use this to recalibrate your mind and energy. Awaken with your renewed strength. While we become one with the light that burns brightly into a new tomorrow, close your eyes and feel the air move by you. It's subtle, but it's there, and that is out indication that we are still drifting toward a higher plane of existence. Take it in, and enjoy the journey. I will see you all in 2023. Peace. BTW, Merry Christmas!! This is my gift to you, sorry that I couldn't wrap it somehow! The powerful creative stimulus that came with the first wave of popular electronic instruments was nowhere more intense than Germany in the early 1970s. In Berlin, a young drummer named KLAUS SCHULZE began working with early electronic instruments. He was a founding member of important bands like ASHRA and TANGERINE DREAM, but soon went solo with a series of groundbreaking albums that established a cosmic sound and a musical language that's still influential today—combining native electronic ornaments, trancey sequencer rhythms, and electronic string lines inspired by his hero, RICHARD WAGNER. On this transmission of Hearts of Space we're back in our comfort zone, with another classic spacemusic journey called COSMIC ELECTRONIC 3. Music is by KLAUS SCHULZE, COSMIC REPLICANT, EXTRAWORLD, JUTA TAKAHASHI, NIMANTY, DREAMSTATE LOGIC, SPACECRAFT, and JONN SERRIE. It's well established that electronic music naturally creates images of cosmic space. Almost fifty years ago, it was given the logical name: spacemusic. The genre has two common modes: flying music is rhythm-powered and goal-oriented, moving through space bound for distant galaxies; floating music is static and timeless, resting peacefully in vast, silent starscapes. As the genre evolved, electronic composers gave expression to the drama in the supreme adventure of exploring the cosmos — a feeling we share today even on missions close to our home planet. They ask the existential and extraterrestrial questions: Who are we? and Are we alone? On this transmission of Hearts of Space, it's another cosmic-electronic journey, on a program called SECRETS OF THE STARS. Music is by EXTRAWORLD, STARTERRA, DAVE LUXTON, SEABAT, JONN SERRIE, DREAMSTATE LOGIC, and JAJA. [ view playlist ] [ view Flickr image gallery ] [ play 30 second MP3 promo ]

Welcome to Show 22 in Season 11. Today is November 22. This is not a coincidence. Haha! We have some super cool releases in this show! Super Spacemusic. Setup your systems, switch on the hi, mid, low and sub for the best results. Some of the tracks contain sounds and effects you will not hear using ‘regular’ earbuds or headsets. As always: the full frequency spectrum is present during a mix that happened couple of days ago … Today is also the Official Release date for the NEW David Helpling album "RUNE" and we have it here on the show! It's a heart warming piece of art - "the new Ambient Era, TC says" - that you need to hear yourself ... :=) Musical contributions by : Another Fine Day, Off Land, Jonn Serrie, David Helpling, Confluent Phase, Erik Seifert, Rudy Adrian. We also play a cassette from 1994, this time it’s the ‘Dedicated’ label bringing us Global Communication. Hear that Maxell tape noise! Lovely! Now that temperatures have gone back to normal values in CY, we can breathe and actually DO stuff we want to do without changing shirts 3 times a day and drinking 4 liters of liquids within couple of hours. Cyprus in November means: preparation of your gas heater and finding sweaters and socks before the real chilly days enter the house next month … Wonderful times ahead for sure :) Myself, I am preparing for my flight to The Netherlands where I will meet family, friends and see a lot of ‘flat’ land and ‘traffic’ I suppose. I’m looking forward to a good time, charge my battery and eat a lot of good Dutch food! Oh … and Roger will take care of the December show again, I love that man! Have a wonderful Listening Experience! ~TC
Jim Ottaway, Keith Richie, Eguana, Suspended Memories, Kevin Braheny & Tim Clark, Jonn Serrie, State Azure, Bruno Sanfilippo, Catastrophic Jones, Max Richter, Elskavon, Erik Wøllo, ?, Alio Die & Lorenzo Montanà, Alpha Wave Movement, Stellardrone, Lars Leonhard.
Listen … feel …. enjoy! Thanks to labels and artists we found an enormous amount of high quality ambient music. The latest new release “Woodlands” by Rudy Adrian for example (Spotted Peccary Music) …. wow! Once you hit ‘play’ you can’t stop listening! Definitely part of our personal Ambient Top 10 for 2019. But there’s more: Ishq, Jarguna, Kelly David, Sean Curtis Patrick, Jonn Serrie, Ludvig Cimbrelius, they all are now part of our Journey called ‘Thermosphere’. Watch that temperature folks! In Cyprus still 25C / 77F on the display during the day and we call this Winter for sure. How’s your location at the moment? Tune in for a great new episode and hear about a Special Edition as we are getting closer to the year 2020 …

In this episode, Rebecca Boskovic shares her perspective on the achievement of beauty. It's an inside job by walking the path of truth and courage. Ever since she was 5 years old, Rebecca was very aware of her “own thinking”. Being very self-aware she learned how to process her feelings at a young age. But then as she grew older, especially when she hit adolescence, self-consciousness crept in. She started questioning herself. Stopped looking inward. And in high school, as is the case with many teens, the need for approval from others became prominent in Rebecca's life. She was more worried about what people thought of her. Everything was outside in and she found herself trying to appease the world, giving up who she was for others. She found herself in a pitched cacophony. Rebecca's big “Aha” occurred early on in college when her therapist asked a pointed question that shifted her whole perspective on herself, life, and the world. From that point onward she approached life and decisions as to what she wanted from the inside out with greater clarity. Show Notes: Listen in to hear about her philosophy on fitness and whole-body health. What's involved in the achievement of wholeness and beauty. How to love the body you have while simultaneously seeking the body you desire and much more such as: 1. Her perspective on Truth, Courage, Beauty 2. Optimal health is not about what you look like, but rather how you feel 3. Achievement of beauty - learn to love yourself and tend to your soul 4. Beauty is dynamic – slightly imperfect 5. Our life stories inform our path and purpose 6. Confidence leads to beauty and strength 7. The impact of adolescence 8. Importance of awareness regarding our "Self Talk" 9. What to do when you have reached all your physical goals and still feel empty 10. Important questions to ask yourself: - Do I really want this? - How do you know what other people think of you?" 11. AHA Moments that cause us to pivot 12. We're all part of a great human body 13. "You were born perfect" 14. In her current endeavor to launch her personal training studio in Suwanee, GA, she helps clients who are looking for that personal touch in achieving their fitness goals. Sacred space. It's a personal expression of our need as human beings for spiritual nurturing. A place to tap into the deeper recesses of our soul. Sacred Space is a place that has special meaning for us and it's up to each of us to decide what we want from the space and what we practice for personal nourishment within the space. Whether for meditation, quiet time, journaling, ritual, yoga, etc. There are many ways to enjoy the space to include considerations for who and for how many, how you want to be with it, and what it might contain – altar, incense, candles, crystals, divine symbols, and other special objects. In this episode, Ann and Carol expand the discussion on a recent blog post "How to Create Sacred Space In Your Home Or Anywhere" written by Ann. They share their own experiences and insights on creating sacred space within the home and enjoying the serenity of spaces outside the home, and how the sacred space should be a personal expression of the intention we set for it. For this guest mix I present you, the listener, with an absolutely stellar outing from an ambient DJ that hails from Hungary. Not only that, but the only female ambient DJ in Hungary. How cool is that? Beyond a measurable scale of incredibly cool. LEPQUE started out as a radio DJ, but got the bug for digging into ambient via Peter Namlook and Jonn Serrie, and has been fighting for the pure ambient style for over 10 years now. The name 'Lepque' is a play on the word 'Lepke', which means butterfly in Hungarian. She claims that it comes from the moth symbol. Just as a moth seeks the light, but dies when reaching it, Lepque also prefers to stay in the background, within the cool and soothing darkness. When not preaching the gospel of ambient at a number of festivals at Ozora, the Sziget Festival, VOLT Festival, Waha, and many others, she's afforded the opportunity to spread her art in the club scene as well as radio. When performing at festivals, she is the lone wolf, representing the weary in their unique and mysterious space. In this world, she takes pleasure in witnessing thousands giving in to the sandman as she weaves her sleep-inducing sonic yarn. Seeing the happy faces the next morning proves that it's not just dance music that is welcome at festivals. We are very similar in that we both draw a distinct line between ambient and other subgenres of chillout music, like lounge or downtempo styles (that others claim is ambient). One of the biggest wishes for Lepque is that she can make people realize what true ambient is. As with this space-themed mix, her main focus is to tell a story and present a theme with each creation that she conjures. Through her dreams she develops ideas, and becomes the music storyteller. Her other wish is to eventually release her own music. After hearing her mix, and taking it in, I am pretty anxious to what has been bouncing around in her mind. Lepque, thanks so much for allowing me to host this, and I look forward to witnessing your future dreams coming to light.Visit Lepque on her MIXCLOUD PAGE.TRACK LISTINGThe Healing Lake – Rudy AdrianInfinite Possibility – Phillip WilkersonStarmoods – Jonn SerrieMemories Of Wandering, Pt. 1 – Robert RichMagnificent Gallery – Steve RoachWherever Two Or More Are Gathered – Michael StearnsMerge (Violette Light Mix) – Troll ‘N Roll RecordsThe Return Of Babel – BabelRise To Light – Cosmic Replicant12 18 – Global CommunicationVanishing Memories – Alexander CheresneyUntitled 6 – IrezumiVictims Of A System – Har & AltusA Drowning – AstropilotSignals In Moonlight – Thom BrennanMirage – Peter NamlookEmpire Of Nothing – NuminaBefore The Celebration – HammockHeld Together By Gravity – Carbon Based LifeformsSilent Valleys – Andrew LahiffBeautiful Desolate Spaces – Adam FieldingZen – Tetsu InoueUnder Stars II – Brian Enoturn on, tune in, sleep...ambient-transmission.blogspot.comfacebook.com/tonepoetmusic
Every so often, I'll make a mix CD of all sorts of ambient MP3's to listen to at bedtime. Things that I like, things that I want to check out, etc. The one that's been in rotation for about 3 months now has been blowing my (sleeping) mind. I finally popped it into the computer to browse its contents. It was Drift Music by Jon Jenkins and Harold Budd, The Stargazer's Journey by Jonn Serrie, a few Brian Eno tunes, and I Fell Asleep At My Desk Making This Mix by Dave at LOW LIGHT MIXES. The amount of chill vibe that I've been getting from this CD has inspired me to make this creation. Therefore, I had to look for the real sonic spacemen to help me gather up some really good ambient sounds. This mix is (once again) for the traveler among the stars. May it bring you tranquility and be the appropriate elevator music for your ascent to the cosmos. Don't forget to search out and support the artists. turn on, tune in, sleep...ambient-transmission.blogspot.comfacebook.com/tonepoetmusic
I started out just making a mix that used more ‘real’ instruments rather than synthesizer pads to give my respect to the more composed pieces of music. After working on it a bit, I could see that the titles lent themselves to a ‘space’ vibe. That was going to be a theme for a mix of mine at one point, so why not now? These songs represent space, weightlessness, and inspire awe just like the cosmos. You know, very often my son (who is 6) and very much into super heroes asks me what super power I would like to have. My answer is always the same: the power of flight. Why? Because growing up as a little boy and reading Superman comics, I was always captivated and jealous of the fact that he could fly into outer space and see the most amazing thing that the majority of the world’s population would never see. I guess you could say that I’m a bit of an astronomy fan. I pulled a few sound samples for this mix, from a NASA site as well as a site that posted a few samples online. For the next space mix (there will be another at some point), I’ll dig a bit deeper finding better samples, but for now….. In keeping the instrumentation as organic as possible, I opened up with a track from HAROLD BUDD. To me, the sedating effect of this track represents weightlessness. The EP that this track is on was produced by none other than Brian Eno (with Chas Smith on steel guitar). Who would ever think that steel guitar could be so tranquil? For the same reason I like STARS OF THE LID, I also like WINDY & CARL (pssst, real guitar!). They describe their music as ‘dreamy & psychedelic’. I couldn’t agree more. And, of course, with a title like ‘The Sun’, this song fits perfectly. Next up is again a very influential musical hero of mine, VANGELIS. Creation Du Monde translates to ‘Creation of the World’ (French). ALOOF PROOF is an artist that I discovered from the ASPHALT EDEN site and fell very much in love with the organic sound. I purchased Piano Text, and here I decide to play an excerpt from the same release (there are only 2 tracks, but that is more than sufficient). There are more recordings of this artist that can be found online, but this Piano Text is pure magic. JONN SERRIE seems to specialize in ‘space ambient’, if there is such a term. And for a good reason, he makes epic voyage music. I really enjoyed making this mix. I pulled out some astronomy books, checked out some Hubble pictures, and basked in the warm flow of great music.turn on, tune in, sleep...ambient-transmission.blogspot.comfacebook.com/tonepoetmusic

What does space sound like—and who decided that? Composers have toyed with themes of space, stars and discovery in music—describing through music the ideas of open space, travel, mystery and majesty, as well as imagining what "outer space" might sound like if you could hear it. Narrated by Roger Launius of the Space History Division of the National Air and Space Museum, this piece features Miles Hoffman, commentator for NPR's Morning Edition, John Dennis, who created the music for Disneyland's Space Mountain, and Jonn Serrie, the nation's leading composer of music for planetarium shows.
