In this episode of Hit Rewind, hosts Michael and Mindy engage in a captivating discussion about the Netflix double feature directed by McG, featuring two thrilling and comedic movies centered around the idea of babysitting. They delve into various films titled "Babysitter," from the 1980 psychological thriller starring Stephanie Zimbalist and William Shatner to the more recent offerings. The conversation shifts towards McG's surprising Netflix double feature, marked by a unique blend of humor and suspense that defies expectations. The hosts explore the nuances of McG's direction style, drawing comparisons to his previous works such as "Charlie's Angels" and "We Are Marshall," and express their admiration for the film's originality and the performances of actors like Judah Lewis and Samara Weaving. Throughout the episode, they delve into the intricate plot twists and character dynamics, praising the movies for their heart, comedy, and the clever inversion of typical slasher and horror tropes. Michael and Mindy share their astonishment at the unexpected turns the story takes, particularly in the sequel, which expands on the original with creative storytelling choices. The hosts also discuss the challenges of filming with young actors, the unique gore-comedy balance, and the clever narrative decisions that kept them engaged. Despite revealing some plot details, they encourage listeners to experience the movies for themselves and uncover the surprises these films have to offer.
Feras Alfuqaha loves to gab about moviemaking. His directorial debut, LIFELINE, premieres in select theatres and VOD on February 21st. It's the story of a suicide hotline volunteer (Josh Stewart) who receives a call from someone he believes to be his younger self (Judah Lewis). The caller says they're at a motel with gun in hand; they'll kill themselves at midnight. Clock's ticking.Based on my interview with Alfuqaha, if I had to associate a word with him, it'd be preparation. He discusses the research needed to understand his main character's work, the decisions finalized before ever stepping onto a set in order to maximize his indie budget's potential, the discovery of characters and their intents done months ahead of time, the amount of effort required before the shoot in order to earn the luxury of on-set flexibility and so. much. more. This interview's got grins and tangents aplenty, one of my favorites in recent memory.Watch LIFELINE here: https://linktr.ee/lifelinemovie---Please rate, review & subscribe to The Movies wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow The Movies on Instagram & Bluesky: linktr.ee/themovies_pod

Giovanne Cruz! Such a wonderful guest! Who would have thought that she and I had so much in common? But that's not what the interview is about. Her role in the latest Lovecraftian movie, “Suitable Flesh” alongside Barbara Crampton, Heather Graham, Bruce Davidson and Judah Lewis. This movie certainly touched all points in the H.P. Lovecraft universe: from the low-cosmic colors to body jumping, and the gratuitous sex scenes, this movie is made for the Lovecraft genre. Giovanne posited the theory that Barbara Crampton's character and Heather Graham's character are actually biological sisters due to the fact that the “ancient one” (that's what I am calling this so-called demon/person who is causing all of this trouble) can only jump to bodies of those who are within the same bloodline. After mentioning that, I am going to have to rewatch the movie and see if that theory holds – but I am most certain it does. Overall, a great guest that I would love to have back on my shows in the future. In the meantime, follow Giovanne on Instagram for updates. Additionally, continue to follow me as I continue to add more guests to my shows. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/southjerseyhorror/message
Heather Graham, Barbara Crampton, and Judah Lewis (from “The Babysitter” movies) all switching bodies with a horny demon? How could we resist? Tune in to hear us break down “Suitable Flesh” (now available on Shudder) — from all those body-swapping seizures, to the sexy scenes that made Tim blush, and whether it succeeded in balancing all that camp, gore, and horror.

Sometimes you need to break it all down to put it all back together, which is exactly what Hayley and Justin are thinking this week as they dissect 2015's Demolition, directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts, Chris Cooper and Judah Lewis -- a Blu-ray disc that J-Mo scooped up on a whim out of the Shoppers Drug Mart discount bin a few years ago not long after watching the 2014 JMV joint Wild. It's a bit of an odd-ball movie and its reputation is less than stellar, but both hosts find a lot to like in this emotionally stunted coming-of-age story that manages to side-step expectation at seemingly every turn. If you'd like to watch the film before listening along, it is currently streaming for free in Canada on Tubi at the time of publication. We'll be back next week with the back-half of this demolition derby, as we watch Stallone and Snipes go head-to-head in the lib-future action satire Demolition Man.

This week we watch "The Babysitter," the first installment of Netflix's Horror/Comedy film series. It's a fun ride with a great cast of young-ish actors from an array of popular franchises that deliver some funny moments while still keeping a decent amount of gore. Where the story really shines is in the exploration of the friendship between the two lead characters: the babysitter and the babysat. We pair it with When & Where presents The Kids Are Finally Asleep. It's a 2020 Chardonnay that we found to be very light and accessible.Rotten Tomatoes Score: 72%Movie Sync Notes: We watch "The Babysitter" on Netflix. We start "The Babysitter" 6:18 into the pod and push play on part two 54:40 into the pod.

The next Ińárritu offering — and the last in a ‘trilogy' that began with AMORES PERROS — is the 2006 film BABEL. We have fairly similar takes on the movie, and this is followed by broader discussions about language, Westernisation, and the purpose of the film. Next Week Our final Ińárritu film is 2014's BIRDMAN OR (THE UNEXPECTED VALUE OF IGNORANCE), available on Amazon This Week's Media HOW NOT TO BE A BOY (2017): Robert Webb THE BABYSITTER (2017): McG, Judah Lewis, Samara Weaving Recommendations PACIFIC RIM (2013): Guillermo del Toro, Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam THE NEON DEMON (2016): Nicolas Winding Refn, Elle Fanning, Christina Hendricks 13 ASSASSINS (2010...not 2013, as confidently asserted): Takashi Miike, Koji Yakusho, Takayuki Yamada UTOPIA (2013-14): Marc Munden, Adeel Akhtar, Paul Higgins Footnotes First this week, I've searched long and hard for the origins of the ‘Trilogy of Death' label, to no avail; answers on a postcard... This review is broadly positive, at least with respect to the Japanese narrative strand of the movie. This is a good introduction to the idea of ‘the idiot plot'. Finally, here's more on the Biblical story of the Tower of Babel, to which the title refers.
The Babysitter is a 2017 American teen horror-comedy film directed by McG and written by Brian Duffield. The film stars Samara Weaving, Judah Lewis, Hana Mae Lee, Robbie Amell and Bella Thorne. It was released by Netflix on October 13, 2017. 12-year-old Cole (Judah Lewis) is the classic kid who suffers from bullying in school, but his one solace is his beautiful babysitter that he has fallen head over heels for. When she stays at home with him one night he decides to spy on her and see what she is up to after he is supposedly asleep. Turns out, this dreamy perfect girl, Bee (Samara Weaving), is a part of a demonic cult!!! He sees her and her friends murder another kid without remorse. That's when this horror/comedy, The Babysitter, really gets started. Cole is thrown into a race against time to escape the members of this cult and hopefully survive until his parents are back in town.
