Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman, marking my 103rd episode of VideoFuzzy, reporting the progress I've made in cataloging thousands of VHS transfers and digital recordings. First, we finally found an apartment and have begun the endless process of settling in and making it our own, furnishing it and transferring our stuff from a storage unit in Bismarck to our new home in Utah. I also took in a book chat with author and fellow podcaster Kemper Donovan of "All About Agatha" promoting the second installment in his ghostwriter mystery series, reviewed in "Ep. 99: Getting Up to Speed" around the 20-minute mark. This set covers discs 1851 to 1875 in my Classic Collection. For my Fuzzy Feature, from Disc 1873, comments on the pilot episode of AMC production "Rubicon," along with my 13th ever "VideoFuzzy the Video" posted here: https://youtu.be/j0quoW7veBo Light set of Cross Connections for this set which tracked James Badge Dale, Mary Lynn Rasjkub, Stephen Root, Iqbal Theba, Rich Sommer, Michael Badalucco, Laura San Giacomo, Jim Beaver, Amber Benson, Sterling K. Brown, Linda Blair, Devon Gummersall and Matt Keeslar. Also highlighted Golden Thread Michael McKeon and Golden Prime Stephen Tobolowsky's appearance in "Radioland Murders" alongside Brian Benben, Mary Stuart Masterson, George Burns, Ned Beatty, Christopher Lloyd, Anita Morris, Corbin Berntson, Bobcat Goldthwait and Larry Miller. In my Classic Collection, comments on the fifth-season "Doctor Who" episode "Amy's Choice" featuring The Dream Lord. Also, Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn and Marty Feldman in "The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother," "Radioland Murders," "100 Questions," "Saving Grace," "Drop Dead Diva" and "Persons Unknown." In Video Outreach, I broke into my 10th binder with this set, so I took some time to look back at what turned up in binder no. 9, including President Obama's first term, passage of the Affordable Care Act, and ... I put a few notes together on my long overdue discussion of "Flashforward." Under Book Report, I talk about some of the books I read on my trip to D.C. for Kemper's book tour, including Lucy Foley's "The Guest List." Also, an anthology of short mysteries by contemporary authors detailing new adventures of beloved Agatha Christie creation Miss Marple titled, simply "Agatha Christie's Marple." And on my stop through Chicago I found a fun independent bookshop called "Bookends and Beginnings," and a speculative think-piece called "The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig -- fun! In What I've Been Watching, I'm still waiting on our stuff to get here, because it will include my VHS-to-DVD dubbers and maybe let me address some issues I've had with my archiving and cataloging efforts. The trip and the move have already delayed my commentary on the second season of "Doctor Who," but I discussed second-season episode "The Story and the Engine" which I found to be confusing. Also, comments on four "My Hero Academia" movie releases, which I watched with Ralph ahead of our move. SPREADING THE WORD! If you were alive when Fried Green Tomatoes came out -- first Fannie Flagg's book, then the movie -- you may recall it was a phenomenon. To a (very) young Ali Clayton, it was a bit of a personal phenomenon, its only-kinda-coded queerness calling out to her before she even knew why. But beyond that, it was a movie about Southern women in a South that Ali recognized -- one where bad things can happen, but good people are holding each other up through it all. Then Jordan has one quick thing about last weekend's big win for cinemas & cinemagoing.Listen to Y'all Gay?Check out Country Queer***With Jordan Crucchiola and Ali Clayton Feeling Seen is hosted by Jordan Crucchiola and is a production Maximum Fun.Need more Feeling Seen? Welcome back to another edition of the Video Store Podcast. In honor of Women's History Month, I've selected four films featuring what I like to call “Wonder Women.” These are women who are brave, kind, strong, and all-around wonderful. This isn't meant to be an exhaustive list—simply four films that resonate with me personally as a woman, and you should watch, whether you're a woman or not. Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)First up is the 1991 Oscar-nominated film, Fried Green Tomatoes. The film stars Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary-Louise Parker, Kathy Bates, and Jessica Tandy, among others. Fried Green Tomatoes is based on the book Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg, who also wrote the first draft of the screenplay. This film flashes between the 1920s and the 1980s, looking at Wonder Women through all stages of life. No matter where you find yourself, Fried Green Tomatoes is a great film to enjoy with the wonderful women in your life. Steel Magnolias (1989)Next up is Steel Magnolias from 1989. Focusing on southern women's culture in the 1980s, Steel Magnolias highlights the friendship among six women who must persevere through difficult circumstances. Starring Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, and Tom Skerritt, Steel Magnolias expertly blends comedy and drama, making a great movie full of Wonder Women. 9 to 5 (1980)The second Dolly Parton film in today's line-up is 9 to 5. The film, in addition to Dolly Parton, features Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Dabney Coleman. Highlighting 1980s office politics that are unfortunately still all too relevant today, 9 to 5 tackles serious women's issues with humor, making their points even more effective and poignant. This is a great laugh after the tear-jerking drama after Steel Magnolias and Fried Green Tomatoes. Alien (1979)The last film in our Wonder Women selections is 1979's Alien directed by Ridley Scott. Starring Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Yaphet Kotto, John Hurt, Ian Holm, Harry Dean Stanton, and Bolaji Badejo as the Xenomorph, Alien, is a phenomenal sci-fi horror film. Alien's leading wonder woman, Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, is an amazing sci-fi heroine. She's smart, brave, and resourceful, totes a flamethrower, and has a kitty-cat sidekick. What more do you want in a film about a Wonder Woman? We hope you enjoy these films and come back and see us next week on the Video Store Podcast. Thanks for reading Video Store Podcast! Sometimes, we.are.just.not.ok. No matter the day, the month, or the year. In honor of Mental Health Awareness month, join CH this week as she recounts a key time in her life where prioritizing her mental well-being took precedence over celebrating a holiday, and how that moment further shaped her approach to prioritizing mental wellness on the whole not only for herself but in support of others. Show Notes May is Mental Health Awareness month in the United States, which has been observed since 1949 (Wikipedia). Mother Earth tried to stop this episode from coming out, but we are back after yet another extended absence. Yes, this episode was so powerful the gods tried to silence it by knocking out the power THREE TIMES during this recording. But despite Sean's audio being dealt a mortal wound (it's fine, you'll get over it), we got this thing across the finish line, and this time Sean brought a heater of a topic: "Go to the Head of the Class", the infamous season two episode Steven Spielberg's NBC anthology show Amazing Stories. This episode stars Mary Stuart Masterson, podcast spectre Tom Bresnahan, and Christopher Lloyd as the insane Professor Beans. Not only that, but it has Robert Zemeckis directing AND Stan Winston doing special effects. A true murderer's row on display here. And what has brought these titans together? A little story about satanic panic, severed heads, and SEX! This one's a wild ride for sure, but as is tradition on this show, Brad and Sean get caught up in what punk stickers adorn our hero's totally accurate, not a Hollywood invention in any way Super Rad Bedroom. It all culminates in a very Brad rant about how awful prestige television is and how it has taken away the good things about television, like Earth 2 and Manimal. We also discuss the various music challenges we've undertaken (and in Brad's case, failed at) in recent weeks, hot dog relishes, and winning at fake slots. We even premiere a new segment on the show: our semi-regular (?) Detroit Lions update called Honolulu Blue Notes. However, even when talking about the Lions, the two manage to discuss Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell and how he looks like he hangs out at the all-night gas station at 4AM. Its a good show, so check it out. --- Website: www.queenvenerator.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/queenvenerator/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/queenvenerator.bsky.social

It's that time of year again — Matthew Lillard's birthday!!! We knew we had to celebrate our spooky king in style, and we had just the movie to help us do it. A long-awaited adaptation of a much-beloved video game franchise, Five Nights at Freddy's (2023) made quite the stir when it hit theaters last fall. We don't know about you, but our social media feeds were flooded with fan cams of Matty Lilly, Josh Hutcherson, and the whole Freddy Fazbear crew. It felt like we were singing fan songs and ~whistling~ along for weeks after we first saw it, but there's more to discuss than just the fandom response. ~Join us for a bite~ as we throw our favorite guy a birthday party at the coolest abandoned spot in town. If you thought these songs were from Jane's Addiction, it is an understandable mistake. Porno for Pyros was formed in 1992 after the first break-up of Jane's Addiction by members by lead vocalist Perry Farrell and percussionist Stephen Perkins. They added Peter DiStefano on guitar and Martyn LeNoble on bass for their eponymously named debut album. The inspiration for the band's name came from a fireworks advertisement that Perry Farrell saw in a pornographic magazine. Inspiration was also connected to the 1992 LA riots which occurred in the band's hometown. The album Porno for Pyros benefitted from the success of Jane's Addiction and the buzz surrounding the new group. Porno for Pyros began a nationwide tour to support the band prior to the release of the first album. By the time the album was released in 1993 there was a pent-up demand for it, causing it to surge to number 3 on the Billboard 200 album chart. With a blend of punk, psychedelic rock and alternative, the album gained both commercial and critical success. The band was impactful on the alternative rock scene, but was short-lived. They would release a follow-up album in 1996 before disbanding in 1998. They would have reunions in 2009 and 2020, and the original line-up has recorded new material as of 2023 to be released as an EP in 2024.Wayne takes us through this alternative rock album. Cursed FemaleThis track was released as the first single as a medley with the song “Cursed Male.” The lyrics reflect the abuse women face in life. It reached number 3 on the Modern Rock charts. “Cursed to be born beautiful, poor, and female, there's none that suffer more.”Cursed MaleForming a medley with “Cursed Female” for the first single, this song turns to the difficulties males face in life. “All the guys that really have the money are too old to have a good time with it...Too old to turn the women on, too old to have a fast car and drive it.”PetsThis is the hit from the album. It deals with dissatisfaction with the human race on the brink of destruction. The song describes how aliens might take over the world and treat human beings as great pets. It reached number 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.Packin' .25This track has the LA riots as its inspiration. It reflects the idea of people carrying a handgun in order to achieve respect. Interestingly, a 25-caliber pistol is not a very powerful weapon. “I dreamt all yesterday how I might make a man feel with a gun up to his face! Show respect to me. I don't care what you're thinking, I'll wipe that thought away! ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers (from the motion picture “Benny and Joon”)Johnny Depp and Mary Stuart Masterson star in this film about two eccentric people falling in love. STAFF PICKS:Daughter by Pearl JamLynch gets the staff picks rolling with the second single from Pearl Jam's "Vs." album. It talks about a girl with severe dyslexia whose mother doesn't understand the condition. The lack of understanding prompts the mother to abuse the daughter, thinking she is being deliberately lazy and disruptive. Woman by Brother CaneRob features a deeper cut from Alabama band Brother Cane off their debut album. This grunge-tinted song has a slow, haunting, mournful feel that builds into a faster paced, minor epic by the middle of the song before returning to the slow theme at the end. The singer discusses an unstable relationship. “I used to know better, now I don't know what's worse - having it all maybe, or having nothing for sure.”Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat) by Digable Planets Bruce brings us the first single from the debut album Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space).” The lyrics are a celebration of hip-hop, the Brooklyn underground scene, jazz, style, and the confidence of the group. Digable Planets sampled “Stretching” by Art Blakley & the Jazz Messengers for the chorus.Lollipop Serenade by Insane JaneWayne's staff pick is from a local Atlanta band with a female lead. Insane Jane put out two albums, the first called “Each Finger” and the second called “Green Little Pill.” The lead singer was known as “Yellow.” This may be a song that those outside of Atlanta may not have heard before. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Beer :30 by The Reverend Horton HeatWell, it is largely instrumental, if you don't count the occasional “beer” and “get naked” statements thrown in. Five Nights at Freddy's movie review and franchise history! This week on the Soul Forge we talk about everything to do with Five Nights at Freddy's (FNaF). We just saw the movie on opening night. Our initial thoughts and reactions, fresh from the theatre are here for you to enjoy. Also on this episode, we have a brief recap of the last week in our lives. Shawn and Leah have been cooking. When they went to Disney World, they tried the cheeseburger spring rolls. They were delicious but expensive. After finding the recipe, they made their own version. This version was exquisite, and may be better than the official product. Additionally, they have been watching more Keeping Up Appearances and Blake's 7. You can hear their thoughts on this episode. And finally, Shawn continues his quest to modify and repaint Hot Wheels. Five Nights at Freddy's (FNaF) is a video game series and media franchise created by Scott Cawthon. The first video game was released on August 8, 2014, and the resultant series has since gained worldwide popularity. The main series consists of nine video games taking place in locations connected to a fictional family pizza restaurant franchise named "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza", after its mascot, the animatronic bear Freddy Fazbear. In most games, the player assumes the role of a night-time employee, who must utilize tools such as security cameras, lights, doors, and vents to defend themselves against animatronic characters who inhabit the locations and become mobile and hostile at night. The series' lore is gradually revealed through voice recordings, minigames, and Easter eggs featured throughout the games. The FNaF movie is directed by Emma Tammi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback, from a story by Cawthon, Chris Lee Hill, and Tyler MacIntyre. The film stars Josh Hutcherson as a troubled security guard who accepts a night-time job at an abandoned restaurant. He discovers its four animatronic mascots are alive and kill anyone that is still there after midnight. Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Mary Stuart Masterson and Matthew Lillard appear in supporting roles. This week's podcast promo: Cigar Nerds

Yellowjackets might be taking a break, but The Watchers doesn't quit. Jodie and Andrea are using the off-season break to share the movies that made them the kind of people who were destined to be obsessed with a show like Yellowjackets. This week, Andrea introduced Jodie to one of her favorite black comedies of all time, the 1992 Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, Bruce Willis triple-hander, Death Becomes Her. It's as funny as it is macabre and as close to a cartoon as a live action movie can be, unless you count Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which, like this movie, was also directed by Robert Zemeckis. Jodie and Andrea talk about what makes this movie such a blast to watch, but they also talk about how watching it in your 30s and 40s makes some of the jokes land a little differently. You know, more like a shovel to the head that smashes your face down into your neck all weird like you're straight up Bugs Bunny.Mentioned in this episode:"The Gloriously Queer Afterlife of Death Becomes Her""Isabella Rossellini Answers Every Question We Have About Death Becomes Her""Depth Becomes Her"Next week, we're watching Jodie's pick, 1987's Some Kind of Wonderful. It's a John Hughes (written, not directed) movie starring Lea Thompson and Mary Stuart Masterson.
