Road House is a 1989 American action film directed by Rowdy Herrington and produced by Joel Silver. The film stars Patrick Swayze, Ben Gazzara, Kelly Lynch and Sam Elliott. In the film, a bouncer at a newly refurbished roadside bar protects a small town in Missouri from a corrupt businessman.
Unintentionally juxtaposing the grimy filth of an actual dive bar with the gloss of the modern-day streaming palette, the 2024 Road House remake may be doomed from the very start. It never seems to realize that much of the charm of Rowdy Herrington's 1989 original comes from a film grain that matches its smoke-filled sets; you can almost smell the spilled beer and dried vomit lodged in the crevices between the wooden floorboards.
¿Son los porteros de discoteca un gremio poco representado en el cine? Hoy hablamos de las dos versiones de ROADHOUSE, la de 1989 dirigida por Rowdy Herrington y el remake de 2024 dirigido por Doug Liman.
Is ROAD HOUSE truly ROAD HOUSE without Patrick Swayze? This question looms over the Brothers roundtable discussion of Doug Liman's ROAD HOUSE, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. They discuss the film's action filmmaking, storytelling, setting, and approach as a remake before comparing it to Rowdy Herrington's original film starring Patrick Swayze. In particular, they outline some of the many reasons why the original film is not a guilty pleasure, but rather one of the best action films of the 1980s.0:29 - Keynote3:49 - Roundtable: “Road House” (24) vs “Road House” (89)Clips:- “Road House” (1989) United Artists- “Road House” (2024) Amazon MGM StudiosRead more of the 3 Brothers' reviews, features, and roundtables at https://3brothersfilm.comSubscribe to the 3 Brothers Film YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO1zge4GZWu3-mdH-VPv8tw

This week on Fabulous Film & Friends we're leaping head first into the bone-cracking, tooth-spitting, throat-ripping and monster-trucking action of the Road House movies! Both of them! That's the original 1989 version directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliot, Kelly Lynch, Ben Gazzara, Kevin Tighe, Marshall Teague, Julie Michaels, Red West, Kathleen Wilhoite and blink and you'll miss him, Keith David. As compared to the 2024 remake directed by Doug Liman and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Post Malone, Arturo Castro & Joaquim de Almeida. My tougher n' leather crew today is made up of Roseanne Caputi, George Young, David Johnson DMD and although we had to beg him back, the bruiser himself, Gordon Alex Robertson! Before we bite into all that throat-ripping goodness, the synopses: Road House ‘89 is an epic tale of real estate fraud, malfeasance, racketeering and monster truck mayhem when zen, philosophizing Big City club bouncer Dalton is hired by Missouri bar owner Frank Tilgheman to clean up his honky tonk club The Double Deuce. Getting top dollar of 5k a week, Dalton packs up and moves to the town of Jasper to get things moving. After beating up a few goons and cutting the pork out of the Double D, Dalton runs afoul of a local business tycoon, the most Italian looking Brad Wesley you've ever seen. Wesley wants the Double Deuce for his own purposes and he also wants Dalton's new girlfriend, the beautiful and brainy Dr. Elizabeth “Doc” Clay as his own. So Wesley's plan: KILL DALTON! Dalton enlists the aid of his friend and mentor Wade Garrett to help in the ensuing ruckus, but Garrett's skills are no match for Wesley's evil. Wesley kills Wade in doing so unleashes the raging raw brute force of a one man army that is…DALTON! Road House 24' basically follows the same plot as the original except it moves the locale to Florida and makes Dalton an ex-MMA star and gives him the first name Elwood. And speed boats take the place of Monster Trucks. And that's about it. Who wins the smackdown? Thirty-five years ago this May, we first saw the release of a relatively small action drama starring then movie star Patrick Swayze as THE Greatest Bouncer/Cooler around who has been hired to clean up a troubled roadside bar in Missouri named the Double Deuce. The character's name was Dalton and he DID clean up that bar along with the surrounding town of Jasper, defeating the evil Brad Wesley played by Ben Gazzara. Directed by Rowdy Herrington, the movie opened to mediocre reviews and middling box office....but then over time thanks to strong play on cable and even stronger video sales, it became a beloved cult hit. Now decades later, that original film has garnered such a devoted following that director Doug Liman (Swingers, The Bourne Identity) has decided to remake it in a modern context, this time with acclaimed actor Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Ambulance, Love and Other Drugs) now playing Dalton as a former MMA fighter who has been hired to be a bouncer. The story is now set in the Florida Keys and the main villains are now played by Billy Magnussen and former MMA fighter Connor McGregor. Let's review BOTH films and see just how nicely they compare.....until it's time to NOT be Nice. ;) Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

You don't. You just don't touch it. And if you do touch it, don't cast Jake Busey like you're making an extended episode of Shasta McNasty. While you're at it, don't try to remake it 35 years later and hire Conor McGregor either.Donate to Palestinian Medical Aid Support Optimism Vaccine on Patreon

Harken! The mountain's four wise men/women left the summit to discuss Rowdy Herrington's Road House! Released in 1989, the film stars Patrick Swayze, Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliott, and many others. It was filmed in the United States and was distributed by United Artists! Enjoy your bi-weekly trip to Shaolin.
Before you watch the new movie on Prime Video, rewind to 1989 to revisit the original with Jason and Rob. Directed by Rowdy Herrington, Road House is the action drama film starring Patrick Swayze. The Double Deuce is the meanest, loudest and rowdiest bar south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and Dalton (Patrick Swayze) has been hired to clean it up. He might not look like much, but the Ph.D.-educated bouncer proves he's more than capable - busting the heads of troublemakers and turning the roadhouse into a jumping hot-spot. But Dalton's romance with the gorgeous Dr. Clay (Kelly Lynch) puts him on the bad side of cutthroat local big shot Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara).

"Gladiator" is a 1992 sports drama film directed by Rowdy Herrington, starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and James Marshall as Tommy Riley, a troubled young man who becomes embroiled in the world of illegal underground boxing. The film's production involved capturing the gritty and intense atmosphere of the underground fight scene. Cuba Gooding Jr.'s portrayal of Tommy Riley required rigorous training in boxing techniques to convey authenticity in the fight sequences. James Marshall, who played Riley's friend and mentor, was also involved in extensive training to bring realism to the film's intense and visceral boxing scenes. The production team worked to create a convincing and atmospheric backdrop for the story, capturing the seedy underground world of illegal boxing matches. The fight choreography, designed to be both brutal and engaging, added a visceral quality to the film's action sequences. "Gladiator" explores themes of redemption, friendship, and the struggle to overcome one's past through the intense and physically demanding world of underground boxing. While the film didn't achieve the same level of critical acclaim as the later Ridley Scott-directed "Gladiator" in 2000, it remains a notable entry in the sports drama genre. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, so become a supporter. www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesback Plot Summary: Tommy Riley is a troubled teenager who, after relocating to a new city with his family, finds himself entangled in the dangerous world of underground boxing. Tommy, struggling to adapt to his new environment, becomes friends with a local homeless man named Pappy Jack (played by Brian Dennehy), who introduces him to the brutal world of illegal and high-stakes boxing matches. As Tommy rises through the ranks, he faces both physical and moral challenges, and his journey becomes a visceral exploration of survival, friendship, and the quest for redemption in the unforgiving world of underground fighting. Gooding's compelling performance and the film's gritty portrayal of the underground boxing scene contribute to the raw and intense atmosphere of "Gladiator." thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thevhsstrikesback/support

It's Die Hard in a serial killer thriller! Or is it Die Hard in a murder mystery? Or Die Hard in a family drama? Or Die Hard in the great American play?! To make sense of all this, Phil and Liam are joined by special guest Sean Fennessey, the host of The Big Picture and a regular guest on The Rewatchables. The plot of Striking Distance speaks to its surprising level of complexity. After he testifies against his own partner for use of excessive force, Pittsburgh homicide detective Thomas Hardy (Bruce Willis) is exiled from the tight-knit police department and ends up working for the River Rescue division, where he becomes embroiled in a hunt for a serial killer who is dumping bodies in the water. As he launches his own unofficial investigation into the crimes with new partner Jo Christman (Sarah Jessica Parker), Hardy comes to suspect that the killer may be the very same man who murdered his police captain father years earlier. As the son of a cop himself, Sean has a particular insight on the film's subject matter, which captures a very specific cultural milieu in co-writer/director Rowdy Herrington's home town of Pittsburgh. They also discuss Sean's feelings about Die Hard, his thoughts on Bruce Willis' complicated career, and his fascinating real-life encounter with Dennis Farina, who plays (Willis' Uncle) Nick DeTillo, in what might be the movie's standout performance, even amongst a stellar supporting cast that includes Tom Sizemore, John Mahoney, Brion James, Andre Braugher, Tom Atkins and Robert Pastorelli. There's also in-depth analysis of the film's possible influences – from iconic 1970s filmmakers like Alan J. Pakula and Sidney Lumet, to great American playwrights like Arthur Miller and Eugene O'Neill – and to the films and TV shows that it may have subsequently influenced – such as CopLand, We Own The Night, Pride & Glory and The Wire. Are the guys giving this largely forgotten film too much credit? Possibly…but that's up to you to decide! The ‘Die Hard Oscars' provide some typically strong candidates for awards recognition, before Sean and Liam compete in the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz! On this episode the boys a reviewing an 80's classic movie, "Road House". Road House is a 1989 American action film directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Patrick Swayze as a cooler at a newly refurbished roadside bar who protects a small town in Missouri from a corrupt businessman. (00:00 - Road House Review)
In 1989 director Rowdy Herrington made a modern western about bar bouncers. It had mediocre success at the box office, but titillated audiences for years to come via home video and cable television. Road House is an unrivaled blend of lust, romance, and explosions that grips viewers by the throat and doesn't let go 'til it's ripped from their bodies. Matt and Kate join the show to talk about a long seated love for Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliott's musk, and a movie that turned a ridiculous premise into a strength by standing on the unrelenting charisma of its leading men.email: openmicmovies@latertaterfilms.comwebsite: openmicmovies.buzzsprout.cominstagram: @latertaterfilms

In which the Mister joins me in reviewing ROAD HOUSE (1989), currently playing on AMC+, Netflix and to buy/rent on other platforms. From a story by R. Lance Hill, a screenplay by Hilary Henkin and directed by Rowdy Herrington, the film follows Dalton (Patrick Swayze), a "cooler" who is contracted to bring order to the raucous and unruly Double Deuce, a club/bar in Jasper, Missouri that is plagued by terrible patrons and nightly violence. This is a movie that doesn't take itself seriously and is an absolute snapshot of the 80s. The film has a run time of 1 h and 54 m and is rated R. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. Episode 10 - Road House the movie is a 1989 American action thriller film starring Patrick Swayze and directed by Rowdy Herrington. Swayze stars as Dalton a bouncer at the Jasper bar, The Double Deuce who tries to protect the small town from a corrupt businessman. Road House also stars Sam Elliot as the gruff bouncer Wade Garrett and for once he isn't sporting his trademark moustache but his voice can't be mistaken. Kelly Lynch plays Dalton's love interest "Doc" who not only heals Dalton's physical scars but also his emotional ones. The movie was released on May 26, 1989, and was met with mixed reviews. It grossed over $60 million in total box office but it was upon home video release that it became a cult hit and earned over $200 million.Road House is a favourite of the BTW team and it was fun to revisit this movie that all of us grew up with. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Adam chooses to examine 1998’s Murder of Crows, a forgotten Cuba Gooding Jr. vehicle. In the episode, we examine the work of Rowdy Herrington, also popular for Road House, and his directorial approach to this film. A very important part of directing is presenting a series of shots and performances so that the narrative is clear. “Clarity, then elegance,” as someone once said to me. Either due to an unparalleled series of filmic catastrophes or out of negligence, Mr. Herrington takes what could have been an interesting idea and turns it into a mind-bogglingly nonsensical film. Adam takes us through it.

June 2019 introduces a new theme geared to take advantage of all those streaming subscriptions that so many people pay for, but maybe don't utilize quite enough. Simply put, Corey (@coreyrstarr) and Jonathan (@berkreviews) picked the movies for this month from one of the streaming services (although it seems we just used Amazon Prime) to watch movies that at least one of them had never seen before. There are tons of movies to choose from, but the four listed below are what they landed on. As far as the podcast goes, each episode features an in-depth review of the movie for the week. They begin with a spoiler-free review before diving in completely after the needed spoiler warning. However, before getting into the review of the week, Jonathan and Corey discuss what other movies they've seen since the last episode as well as anything else they feel like discussing. To help them decide which of the many films to watch each month they started creating themes for them all. Week 3 - Road House (1989) Could a movie be summed up any simpler than "A tough bouncer is hired to tame a dirty bar." On a recent episode of Top Five Movies, it was revealed that neither Jonathan nor Corey had ever seen this 1989 Patrick Swayze vehicle Road House. Thus, Corey decided it was high time they watched director Rowdy Herrington's opus of bar violence starring Swayze, Kelly Lynch, and Sam Elliott. You may have caught a pattern, but this one is also available on Prime. We also had a special guest on this episode, Top Five Movie regular Michael Sanchez (@servermonkey) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/berkreviewscom-moviecasts/support
005 - in our 5th episode we look back at fashion icon, John Dalton (brought to life with brutality and grace by Patrick Swayze) in the 1989 classic, Road House. Hot off the heels of Dirty Dancing, Swayze looks to clean up a 'small town' with a suspiciously high volume of bar goers and undesireables, the majority of which appear to carry large knives.
We're heading down to the Double Deuce roadside bar this week to talk all things 1989's Road House. Starring Patrick Swayze and directed by Rowdy Herrington, Road House tells the story of a bouncer named Dalton who must protect a town from a corrupt businessman. Despite a poor critical reception upon its release the film has earned a cult following and is often considered the best bad movie. But why?

The Bickersons may never be your new regular Saturday night thing, but they are back with 1989's Road House, a movie with more mullets per capita than a hockey camp in 1992. Ali realizes it's the same shit in a different location. Jon knows that pain don't hurt. But can they get out from under the polar bear in time to finally release another podcast? Road House stars The Swayze, The Swayze's Mullet, Sam Elliott, Sam Elliott's Mane, Kelly Lynch, Ben Gazzara, Jeff Healey, Kevin Tighe, "Sunshine" Parker, and Keith David in a part so small Jon forgot to mention it. Oh, and probably every single stuntman they could round up. It was directed by Rowdy Herrington, the only director whose name aptly describes his fight scenes.
When it comes to Body Counts and Beer, all you have to do is follow three simple rules: never underestimate your action movie, take it outside, and be nice…until it's time to watch the 1989 Rowdy Herrington classic ROAD HOUSE! Joining us again this week is special guest Jen Ducharme of Glitterbomb fame! Did we drink a little extra this week? ABSOLUTELY. Do we veer off topic a little extra this week? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT. We cover a little bit of everything: the startlingly low number of buildings in Jasper, Missouri, Jon's fear of sentient knives, businesses which require employees to wear red shirts, throat rippin' and monster truckin', Ray Romano and Brad Garrett pop by, and we finally find out who has Cronenberg-ian chest hair. PLUS: We introduce the Sploosh Zone! Thanks again to our special guest Jen Ducharme!
