Carbs aren't the enemy, you just need to know how to eat them!? Best-selling author and gluten-free chef Phoebe Lapine joins us to share her game-changing health journey. Diagnosed with Hashimoto's and battling SIBO, Phoebe did what most of us would: she cut carbs completely. But it didn't lead to better health… instead, it left her stuck in a cycle of restriction and confusion. Through a LOT of personal experimentation, Phoebe discovered that carbs can actually SUPPORT healing when you know how to choose the right ones. Spoiler alert: you don't have to live in fear of bread anymore! In this episode, Phoebe breaks down how slow carbs (not low carbs) can help improve energy, reduce inflammation, and bring more balance to your life. She also shares her top mindset shifts around food freedom, including how to eat without fear and find joy in cooking again. If you've ever felt trapped by diet culture or unsure of what's truly good for you, this conversation will change how you think about your plate. Get Your Copy of Carbivore! HEALERS & HEAL-LINERS: Not all carbs are created equal. Slow carbs like sweet potatoes, legumes, and whole grains provide long-lasting energy and don't spike blood sugar the way refined carbs do. Cutting carbs completely can backfire. Completely eliminating carbs can cause fatigue, irritability, and hormonal imbalances, especially for those with thyroid conditions. Stress around food is worse than the food itself. Obsessing over every bite can increase cortisol levels, which negatively impacts digestion and overall health. Send me a Text Message! In this episode, we explore the profound idea that there are no truly bad people, only individuals operating from the shadows of their consciousness. Every choice we make, whether productive or destructive, stems from a perceived benefit tied to our internal programming. Using insights from systems like Gene Keys, we examine the journey from shadow states to higher levels of consciousness and self-awareness. This episode challenges you to look inward, forgive yourself and others, and understand the hidden benefits behind your choices as part of your spiritual evolution.Key Takeaways:Shadows Aren't Who You Are: Shadow states are temporary conditions, not permanent identities. They reflect unprocessed pain and programming, not the essence of a person's soul.Every Choice Has a Perceived Benefit: Even seemingly destructive choices are made because they offer some form of self-protection or perceived advantage in the moment.Your Growth is Inevitable: The spiritual journey is about moving from shadow to gift, and from gift to the highest state of consciousness. This evolution happens as you gain awareness and courage to look inward.Forgive Yourself and Others: Everyone is doing the best they can with their current level of consciousness and awareness. Understanding this fosters compassion and healing.Replace Old Patterns with New Awareness: As you uncover the hidden benefits behind your destructive behaviors, you can replace them with healthier, more aligned actions.Notable Quotes:“There's no such thing as a bad person—only people operating from corrupted programming and shadow behaviors.”“Every choice you've ever made was rooted in a perceived benefit, even if it was destructive.”“At the soul level, you are infinite, eternal, and nothing but love. Shadows are temporary distortions, not your true essence.”“Forgive yourself for the choices you made to survive, and give yourself permission to evolve.”“No one wakes up and says, ‘I want to ruin today.' Hiring your kids in your business is a great way to boost their resume, teach practical life skills, and add help for those mundane tasks you don't want to do. I have a confession. Like all confessions, I will probably lose my momtrepreneur status. But here goes. I don't want to grow my business to the point of needing to hire anyone. I know shocking. Every business owner is supposed to want to grow to the point of creating an empire. But that's not one of my business goals. However, there are things that I don't enjoy doing, and would like to delegate those tasks to someone else. And that's when hiring your kids becomes the secret sauce.I am not a tax professional the purpose of this post is for educational purposes only. I just want to let you know that this is a possibility, and you can discuss with your tax accountant.Show notes and links: https://lifeunboxed.blog/hiring-your-kids/ Find your tribe. The Old Testament Hebrew Scriptures in 5 Minutes (Equinox Books, 2024), co-edited by Philippe Guillaume and Diana V. Edelman, is a digestible, concise, reader-friendly introduction to biblical scholarship for undergraduate students and lay readers alike. Written without technical language or jargon by diverse specialists in Hebrew Bible, its 83 chapters welcome readers into a range of topics, including the enduring questions of date, authorship, and source criticism for biblical books in addition to timely contributions of interest to 21st-century audiences, such as the Hebrew scriptures and archaeology, ecology, abortion, and sexual orientation/LGBTQIA issues. Meanwhile, although not a book-by-book or verse-by-verse commentary on the Hebrew Bible or Christian Old Testament, their volume introduces familiar prophets and figures from the scriptural collection in novel and enlightening ways. Dr. Edelman and Dr. Guillaume joined the New Books Network to discuss the development of this primer on the Hebrew Scriptures and to preview its wide-ranging contents. Diana V. Edelman (Ph.D., University of Chicago, 1986) is Professor Emerita in Hebrew Bible at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Oslo, Norway. She has published widely on many aspects of the Hebrew Bible in its ancient Near Eastern context and has cultivated specialties in the Bible and cultural memory, southern Levantine history and archaeology, identity formation reflected in the Hebrew Bible, and emerging forms of Judaism in the Persian and Hellenistic periods. Among her recent scholarly contributions are chapters on “Deuteronomy as the Instructions of Moses and Yhwh vs. a Framed Legal Code” (in Deuteronomy in the Making: Studies in the Production of Debarim; de Gruyter, 2021) and “The Text-Dating Conundrum: Viewing the Hebrew Bible from an Achaemenid Framework” (in Stones, Tablets, and Scrolls: Periods of the Formation of the Bible; Mohr Siebeck, 2020), and she is also the author of The Origins of the ‘Second' Temple: Persian Imperial Policy and the Rebuilding of Jerusalem (Routledge, 2005). In her recreational time, Diana is an avid amateur photographer and world traveler. Philippe Guillaume (Th.D., University of Geneva, 2002) is Lecturer in the Faculty of Theology at the University of Berne. His research interests span the Hebrew Scriptures and include the use of prophetic scrolls in divination and rhetorical questions posed by these texts, both internally and in their historical reception. Philippe is author of Waiting for Josiah: The Judges (Bloomsbury T&T Clark, 2004), Land and Calendar: The Priestly Document from Genesis 1 to Joshua 18 (Bloomsbury T&T Clark, 2009), The Economy of Deuteronomy's Core (Equinox, 2022) and numerous journal articles and chapter-length contributions on texts, aspects, and economic issues within the Hebrew Scriptures, including “Debunking the Latest Scenario on the Rise of the Pork Taboo” (Études et Travaux, 2018), “Wonder Woman's Field in Proverbs 31: Taken, Not Bought!” (Ugarit-Forschungen, 2016), Naboth's vineyard (SBL/Bible Odyssey), and “The Hidden Benefits of Patronage: Debt” (in Anthropology and the Bible; Gorgias Press, 2010). Rob Heaton (Ph.D., University of Denver, 2019) hosts Biblical Studies conversations for New Books in Religion and teaches New Testament, Christian origins, and early Christianity at Anderson University in Indiana.
