Today, Frizz and Bob FINALLY dive into one of the best written and sold records of all time, Carole King's Tapestry. Frizz poured Knob Creek Bourbon and Bob enjoyed a single barrel of Yellowstone Bourbon as we learned about some gross idiot royals, how Carole's LA friends pushed her to be the star she became, and her never-ending legend as a writer- all while trying not to go tumblin' down, tumblin' down.
We have seen other companies blend bourbon and rye on purpose and some have done it on accident. Knob Creek is one of the latest brands to try their hand at blending a straight bourbon whiskey with a straight rye whiskey. Coming in at 113 proof, we taste and review this blend and provide our thoughts on it. For short a episode, the laughter is palpable. In this short, but action packed effort, Anthony revisits his love for Total Wine and the fellas get the giggles over a specific tasting note associated with the whiskey in our glass. After being released this past summer, we've only just recently seen it in our local liquor stores and were finally got our hands on a bottle. A unique combination of two of our long-time go-to spirits, we're a little trepidatious about what we're getting ourselves into. Will it be a seamless, delicious, and triumphant melding of iconic whiskeys? Or will it be a Frankenstein's monster of contrasting flavors fighting for dominance in an all-out assault on your senses? Press play to find out! Combining bourbon and rye isn't necessarily a new thing, as Wild Turkey's Unforgiven took marketing advantage of a blending "accident" years ago, but with Beam's release of Little Book Infinite, and now their Bourbon x Rye they've taken the concept to a new level. Who knew HOW GOOD Beam's rye recipe is, especially when salted with a little 9 year Knob Creek. Nose is spicy with tropical notes and sweet almonds. On the palate, the 113 proof blend exhibits sweet rye smoothness, combined with a backbone of spicy bourbon. Again, this might be an easy release to overlook, but you shouldn't. It's delicious and will be the sneaky hit in any bottle tasting. And don't even get me started on how good of an Old Fashioned this makes. It's legit!
We all know Devo loves his Knob, but will this tickle his fancy? Only time will tell. This bottle is an intriguing mix at 70% Knob Creek 7 Year Rye and 30% Knob Creek 9 Year Bourbon. Our second Knob Creek single barrel in our warehouse series is from the 1951 Warehouse K. This was aged on the 5th floor of a 7 floor traditional rickhouse which contains only 20,400 barrels as opposed to the newer 50,000 barrel warehouses. Bold nuts and caramel on the nose with almond and baking spices. On the palate, lots of dried fruit notes with barrel spice emerging on the finish. The difference between the 2006 warehouse and the 1951 warehouse side by side is interesting, as I think the 1951 may have pushed a little further into the wood, but both are incredibly delicious!
There are 30 rickhouses on the Clermont campus, and we're trying to pull a single barrel over time from each and every one of them, starting with the newest warehouse, built in 2006 with a barrel capacity of 50,400 barrels and 7 total floors. This selection from Warehouse 1 is from the 6th floor bottled at 120 proof, and is pure bourbon candy on the nose with praline, almond, and candied orange. On the palate, extremely rich and sugar forward with vanilla, toffee caramel, but still a distinct but richer orange note from the yeast.

There's a special place in hell for people who waste good whiskey. We won't be there, and we hope y'all won't either. In this weeks episode, we attempt to stay on track while drinking Basil Hayden and Knob Creek bourbon whiskey(s), which is a feat of it's own to be honest. These are some damn fine whiskeys if I do say so myself. We also ask the age old question: would you be a pioneer? Would you help start up a colony on mars based on all the crazy sci-fi sh*t you've seen in the movies? Aliens bursting from your chest or crazy tornado storms that have faces? Grab a drink, relax, and enjoy some nerd-dom like you've never heard before. On another note, apologies for the delayed post. We had some issues on our end and got it taken care of. Tasting Notes: The latest Bourbon World Knob Creek pick is a Warehouse P, floor 6. Soft and creamy nose with vanilla, orange, and floral leading the way. On the palate, chewy oak spice with fresh cut oak, toffee, and a touch of chocolate at the end. Light on the nose, but a monster on the tongue.

Bob and Brad finish up their miniseries of James Cameron films with his 1991 extravaganza Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Today, they're joined by writer and filmmaker Ian Nathan. Ian is former editor of Empire magazine and author of nearly 20 books, including the new James Cameron: A Retrospective. Our trio of hosts break down every angle of this quite-literally-explosive film, lauding the performances of Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as Cameron's work as a writer, adding depth to the story of the original Terminator while also inverting it. Meanwhile, they try a popular Jim Beam product, Knob Creek Bourbon. This 9-year bourbon is part of Beam's small batch collection (alongside Baker's, Booker's, and Basil Hayden's). Bob and Brad have sampled a barrel-proof expression of Knob Creek on-air, but never the ubiquitous baseline offering. How will it fare, given its recent price increase? Film & Whiskey Podcast. You couldn’t be both. When the rye industry fell apart in the second half of the 20th century and its distilleries, located in the mid-Atlantic states, faltered and ultimately disappeared, an unexpected savior stepped in: bourbon distillers. Hey Everyone, Welcome to another episode of the Whiskey Flix Podcast! This week we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film “Airplane”, and review Knob Creek Bourbon. We were very excited to talk about this hilarious comedy classic and hope you guys enjoy our commentary. With that said let’s jump into the whiskey review. Knob Creek Bourbon – We’ve seemed to have gotten ourselves in a trend of drinking big name brand bourbons and unfortunately, they’ve started to blend together on our pallets. Knob Creek is a pretty standard bourbon that sits right at that $30 price point we’ve become accustom to here on Whiskey Filx. Knob Creek offers up flavors of dried fruits, vanilla, and spiced oak. As a group we decided that we were spinning our tires a bit with our whiskey choices after a third straight week of what we considered another average whiskey (but who cares what we think?). Make sure you check out the podcast for our official review of Knob Creek. -Whiskey Flix That’s going to do it for us this week. Next week we’re going to be trying something a little bit different. We’re going to be reviewing our first beer on the podcast! We’re pairing “The Sandlot” with Stone IPA (what goes better with baseball then beer?). Make sure you hit that subscribe button, so you don’t miss out! Cheers!
Fred Noe became Jim Beam's seventh master distiller in 2007 when his father, the legendary Booker Noe, retired. 13 years later, he's getting closer to the day when he'll hand things over to his son Freddie - but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed his plans for a "farewell tour" with Freddie this year. Instead, Fred's been cooped up at home in Bardstown, Kentucky, wearing a mask when he leaves the house at the insistence of his family and hoping to be able to go on that tour of Australia and Europe next year. In the meantime, he and his team have revived the Beam family's Old Tub Bourbon brand for a limited-edition release celebrating the 225th anniversary of Jacob Boehm's first whiskey, along with a limited-edition 15-year-old Knob Creek Bourbon. We'll catch up with Fred Noe on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, the trade war between the U.S. and Europe is heating up again while England prepares to reopen pubs this coming week as parts of the U.S. close bars as the pandemic flares up. We'll have the latest on new whiskies, say goodbye and thanks to a couple of retiring friends, and look at the way whisky barrels are stored on Behind the Label.
We sample Knob Creek Bourbon 100 proof. Also we discuss the existence of ghosts and, of course, the fact that monkeys fuck everything..
