Send us a textThis batch of Booker's, named "Barry's Batch" in honor of former Beam CEO Barry Berish, delivers a remarkably smooth drinking experience despite its 125.7 proof, with rich caramel, peanut butter, and warm spice notes creating a perfect fireside sipper.• First Booker's release of 2025 (Batch 2501) honoring Barry Berish, former Beam chairman who passed away in early 2024• Aged 7 years, 2 months, 4 days with barrels from five different warehouse locations• Classic Jim Beam mash bill: 77% corn, 13% rye, 10% malted barley• Exceptional caramel-forward aroma with notes of peanut butter on the nose• Drinks smoother than its 125.7 proof might suggest• Adding a few drops of water enhances the peanut butter fudge notes• Over ice brings out more graham cracker and reduces any mustiness• Our barrel bottle breakdown score: 15 out of 18 possible points• Available for approximately $100, making it a solid value for a premium limited release• Demonstrates Fred Noe's commitment to maintaining Booker's legacy and qualityRemember, as Booker always said, enjoy it "any damn way you please" – neat, with water, or over ice!The first Booker's release of 2025 pays heartfelt tribute to a bourbon legend who helped shape the industry as we know it today. Barry's Batch, named for former Beam chairman and CEO Barry Berish, celebrates a man who guided the company for over 40 years until his passing earlier this year. This exceptional batch delivers everything bourbon enthusiasts seek in a premium barrel-strength release. At 125.7 proof, you might expect an aggressive heat, but Barry's Batch surprises with remarkable approachability. The nose immediately captivates with rich caramel aromas complemented by hints of peanut butter and vanilla that promise a memorable tasting experience. The flavor journey begins with honey sweetness on the tongue, developing into luscious caramel mid-palate before revealing warming cinnamon and allspice notes. What truly distinguishes this batch is its perfect balance – delivering full-bodied intensity without overwhelming the palate. Following Booker's philosophy of drinking bourbon "any damn way you please," we explored it neat, with a few drops of water (which amplified delightful peanut butter fudge notes), and over ice (bringing forward subtle graham cracker flavors).Aged 7 years, 2 months, and 4 days, this release demonstrates the meticulous barrel selection process that has become a hallmark of the Booker's brand. The blend incorporates barrels from five different warehouse locations, creating a complexity that tells the story of Kentucky's unpredictable aging environment. Each sip offers a window into why Booker's remains one of the most sought-after limited releases in American whiskey.Whether you're a longtime Booker's enthusiast or new to barrel-strength bourbon, Barry's Batch represents a fitting tribute to both its namesake and the enduring legacy of the Beam family. Pour yourself a glass, raise it to Barry, and discover why this bourbon scored an impressive 15/18 on our scale. George T. Stagg built the most dominant American distillery of the 19th century, during a time known as the Gilded Age of Bourbon. Uncut and unfiltered, this robust bourbon whiskey ages for nearly a decade and boasts the bold character that is reminiscent of the man himself. 2023 - 04, “STORYTELLER BATCH”: The fourth release of the Booker's Bourbon 2023 Collection is Booker's Batch 2023-04 “Storyteller Batch.” This batch is named after the way my dad, Booker Noe, could turn just about anything he talked about into an interesting story. Booker's “Storyteller Batch” is made up of barrels from four production dates that were aged in four different warehouses. The breakdown of barrel storage for this batch is as follows: 26% came from the 6th floor of 7-story warehouse Z 14% came from the 6th floor of 9-story warehouse H 25% came from the 5th floor of 9-story warehouse G 35% came from the 5th floor of 7-story warehouse 3

Joining Taplines today is Seth Gross, a former Goose Island Brewing Co. brewer who was at the meeting where Goose Island then-brewmaster Greg Hall and the late, legendary master distiller Booker Noe, of the Beam bourbon dynasty, first came up with the idea to barrel age a beer, how they did it… and what happened once rank-and-file drinkers got their hands on the final product. Some three decades later, Gross is still barrel-aging his own beers at Durham, North Carolina's Bull City Burger and Brewery — just one of the hundreds, or more likely thousands of brewers who have taken up the BA gospel since. It's the end of October, which means it's time to taste some Bourbon County Stout. Our friends at Goose Island were good enough to invite the Barrel to Bottle crew to their Barrel House and taste through the 2022 line-up. We took copious notes and then raced back to the Barrel to Bottle Studios to record this episode. Goose Island Bourbon County Stout – The original always changes slightly and this year, like last, it was a mixture of Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey and Buffalo Trace barrels, but they also added Four Roses barrels to the mix. This is still the defining beer for the category, and it will be plentiful. And also, some of it will be in four packs! Goose Island Bourbon County 30th Anniversary Reserve Stout – It's the 30th anniversary of Bourbon County Stout and this one returns to where it all began. Greg Hall was talking to Booker Noe, which led to putting stout in Jim Beam Small Batch Bourbon Collection. They used a variety of Booker, Knob Creek, Basil Hayden and Baker's barrels that were then purposefully blended. Goose Island Bourbon County Two-Year Barleywine Reserve – It's hard to tell from looking at it that this is a barleywine and not a stout. Two years in the barrel have made it darker, but it tastes like a barleywine. It's aged in Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond Decanter Series barrels. Goose Island Bourbon County Coffee Stout – Coffee is back! Greg couldn't be happier for this one, the original BCBS variant that returns after a 5-year hiatus. This was once again brewed with Intelligentsia coffee. Goose used a liquid coffee concentrate as well as whole beans from Burundi for this beer. Goose Island Bourbon County Sir Isaac's Stout – This beer is inspired to Fig Newton cookies. Figs can be sweet, sometimes too sweet. Goose's solution was to go with dried figs, specifically Black Mission. Roger loves these figs for beer pairings. The beer was circulated through 10,000 pounds of figs, then the beer sat on those figs for two weeks. After that they added graham cracker flavoring. Goose Island Bourbon County Biscotti Stout – *Italian finger pinch gesture* This one went a little heavy-handed on the anise, and there are a lot of other Italian cookies that have even more anise, such as pizzelles. The anise is balanced though, with almonds and cocoa nibs. Goose Island Bourbon County Proprietor's Stout – This beer was inspired by the Jungle Bird cocktail and features banana, coconut, lime and pineapple. Roger got hung up on the missing Campari, although he's also not sure how that would work in a beer. But wait, there's more! Two years ago, Goose released Bourbon County Kentucky Fog, which featured tea and honey. Greg was a big fan, Pat was not. We should have drank this 18 months ago, but Greg never did. On todays episode we have a glass of Bristol Republic's Knob Creek Single Barrel Select! If you are looking for barrel picks to try, Bristol Republic is the place to go! This Knob Creek Single Barrel Select threw us for a loop in the best way! If you are in the Columbus area, be sure to stop and have a glass, it will be well worth it! Be sure to rate and review the show wherever you are listening, it really helps us out. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/whiskeychaserspodcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whiskeychaserspodcast/ Also, Be sure to show some love for the company that brought you todays bottle! https://www.knobcreek.com https://www.bristolrepublic.com I thought for the longest time that Knob Creek was named after some family member or some weird relative of the Noe family or the Beam family seeing how the majority of their bottles are that way. This one is named after a legit creek that supposedly ran behind Abraham Lincoln's house. Knob Creek 9 year was first released in 1992 by Booker Noe (6th generation distiller) Created with the aim to recapture pre prohibition style bourbon, with more time spent in the barrel and higher proof. The one we have today is Knob Creek Single Barrel Select that Bristol Republic picked out and were kind enough to give us a sample of. Each barrel select that Knob creek does remains unblended and a true single barrel for the place that bought it. There are some places that will allow you to pick barrels and blend them, we had one that did that (or was rumored to) the Alpha by Cornerstone In true Noe fashion, they do ensure that every barrel and every drop is held to the very rigorous standards of Booker Noe. (The public got a taste of those standards a couple of years ago when Bookers only released three bottling's due to the fourth one not meeting the standards that Booker Noe would have held to) The whiskey is said to go in around 125 proof and they bottle it at 120 for all barrel selects All of the barrels for knob creek are at a level 4 char They believe this allows for the most flavor to be pulled All of the barrels are stored and aged in Clermont Apparently it has the best climate for the best results. All of the bottles are a minimum of 9 years old before they will bottle it There are several ways for stores to participate in the Knob Creek Single Barrel Experience: they can come to Kentucky for the grand tour, they can sample remotely via a custom sampling kit, or they can leave it up to the distiller. They work with each account to make sure they get their own barrel, exactly how they like it. Tasting notes: Just because I know the owner and have worked with him in picking barrels before, I knew this was going to be on the sweeter side for a Knob creek. Others that have tried it and compared it to another, different, store pick I have, say it does have sweeter notes to it but a high proof finish Ending; Since we cannot buy a bottle of this, the question is not mooch or buy, but rather would you recommend going to Bristol for several glasses of this? And would you recommend people visiting Bristol Republic to have a glass or two of any of their barrel picks? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/whiskey-exchange/support
This episode was never intended to be a two-parter. Once I sat down with our guest, I couldn't bring myself to hit the stop button because I wanted to keep hearing the stories she had to tell. Kathleen DiBenedetto is the Sr. Director, Premium Seed Brands but has had a near 30 year career span at Beam Suntory. And one of her first jobs was working alongside Booker Noe. She traveled the country with Booker and learned what it took to market and find audiences for this premium uncut and unfiltered small batch whiskey. She helped the brands of Booker's, Knob Creek, and Bakers grow from its infant stage, this is before Booker's even had a box, to what we all see today. Kathleen shares her fondest memories of working with Booker and the Noe family and how that set her down a path to be inducted into the Bourbon Hall of Fame and also have her own Booker's Batch named after her. Show Notes: Above the Char with Fred Minnick (@fredminnick) talks about the current whiskey shortage. You've spent 30 years at Beam. What did you do when you first came into the company? How did the interview process go with Booker Noe? How did you build on-site tastings with consumers? Booker didn't like fancy packaging but do you find it weird now that Basil Hayden is upscale packaging? Do you remember what time the Booker's box was introduced? Where was Baker's fitting into the portfolio at this time? Can you recall the price points and how you competed with clear spirits? What was Booker's first impression of Blanton's? Were you there when Booker's began introducing different batch numbers? @jimbeamofficial @knobcreek @knobcreekbourbon Support this podcast on Patreon
In this episode of Bourbon With Friends, presented by the Bourbon Charity Ball for Folds of Honor. The guys sit down with Jacob Call, Master Distiller of Green River Distillery. To say he was born with whiskey in his veins may be a stretch, but distilling bourbon has been in Jacob Call's family for eight generations. An eighth-generation Kentuckian (born and raised in Bardstown), Jacob graduated from Murray State University with a degree in business administration. Cheers,Scott, Jake, & MichaelBourbon Lens About Basil Hayden® Crafted in 1992 by Booker Noe as part of the Small Batch collection, Basil Hayden introduced a more subtle side of bourbon compared to its counterparts. Inspired by bourbons with high-rye mash bills, Booker set out to create a bourbon that would offer an approachable taste profile and defy preconceived bourbon perceptions. Basil Hayden Bourbon welcomes new drinkers into whiskey and showcases new occasions to drink it. Beyond its flagship Basil Hayden Bourbon, the brand has pushed the boundaries of innovation in recent years. These intriguing offerings have included expressions such as Basil Hayden Dark Rye, Basil Hayden 10 Year, the limited time release of Basil Hayden 10 Year Rye Whiskey and Basil Hayden Toast. About Beam Suntory Inc. As a world leader in premium spirits, Beam Suntory inspires human connections. Consumers from all corners of the globe call for the company's brands, including the iconic Jim Beam and Maker's Mark bourbon brands, Suntory whisky Kakubin and Courvoisier cognac, as well as world renowned premium brands including Knob Creek, Basil Hayden and Legent bourbon; Yamazaki, Hakushu, Hibiki and Toki Japanese whisky; Teacher's, Laphroaig and Bowmore Scotch whisky; Canadian Club whisky; Hornitos and Sauza tequila; EFFEN, Haku and Pinnacle vodka; Sipsmith and Roku gin; and On The Rocks Premium Cocktails. Beam Suntory was created in 2014 by combining the world leader in bourbon and the pioneer in Japanese whisky to form a new company with a deep heritage, passion for quality, innovative spirit and vision of Growing for Good. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, Beam Suntory is a subsidiary of Suntory Holdings Limited of Japan. For more information on Beam Suntory, its brands, and its commitment to social responsibility, please visit www.beamsuntory.com and www.drinksmart.com Basil Hayden® Toast is the new permanent super-premium bourbon expression for the brand. This uniquely crafted 80 proof whiskey consists of an entirely new mash bill. In lieu of traditional rye grain, Basil Hayden Toast is made using US-grown brown rice, which adds a hint of sweetness and a touch less spice with increased depth of flavor that comes from secondary aging in a toasted then flash-charred oak barrel. Rather than charring the barrel with open flame, the toasting process exposes the barrel to a long and gentle heat. The softer notes from the Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey receive the flavors from the toasted barrels, which is then blended back with non-Toasted bourbon to add complex flavor grounded in sweet vanilla, complemented by rich roasted notes – ideal to be sipped and savored neat, on the rocks, or stirred into your favorite aperitif-style cocktail with close company. TASTING NOTES COLOR: Dark amber AROMA: Toasted oak complemented by dried fruit and caramelized sugar TASTE: Toasted wood and vanilla with a light mouthfeel FINISH: Sweet caramel PRICING: $49.99 PROOF: 80 (40% ABV) AVAILABLE: 8/2/21

England's modern whisky scene only goes back to 2006, when the English Whisky Company started distilling at St. George's Distillery in Norfolk. Since then, it's grown by leaps and bounds, and the first-ever English Whisky Festival will take place this coming weekend online featuring 13 different distilleries. We'll look at not only the growth of England's whisky scene, but how Covid-19 has affected whisky bars and distillery tourism as Chris Ratcliff makes his debut on WhiskyCast as a contributor. In the news, surges in Covid-19 cases are forcing a return to restrictions on pub life around Europe, while bars in Texas can start reopening this week. Jack Daniel's has named its new master distiller - one with a link to the distillery's heritage. We'll also have a story about the legendary Booker Noe on Behind the Label and much more!

Fred Noe became Jim Beam's seventh master distiller in 2007 when his father, the legendary Booker Noe, retired. 13 years later, he's getting closer to the day when he'll hand things over to his son Freddie - but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed his plans for a "farewell tour" with Freddie this year. Instead, Fred's been cooped up at home in Bardstown, Kentucky, wearing a mask when he leaves the house at the insistence of his family and hoping to be able to go on that tour of Australia and Europe next year. In the meantime, he and his team have revived the Beam family's Old Tub Bourbon brand for a limited-edition release celebrating the 225th anniversary of Jacob Boehm's first whiskey, along with a limited-edition 15-year-old Knob Creek Bourbon. We'll catch up with Fred Noe on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, the trade war between the U.S. and Europe is heating up again while England prepares to reopen pubs this coming week as parts of the U.S. close bars as the pandemic flares up. We'll have the latest on new whiskies, say goodbye and thanks to a couple of retiring friends, and look at the way whisky barrels are stored on Behind the Label.
Imagine a world without bourbon or rye whiskey. As terrifying as that scenario sounds, not that long ago, America was heading in that very direction. Only a trickle of rye was being made each year and bourbon brands were struggling to stay relevant and were precipitously losing market share. But just in the nick of time, American whiskey distillers were miraculously able to stage a successful comeback. On this episode of the award-winning podcast Life Behind Bars, co-hosts David Wondrich and Noah Rothbaum, talk about how American whiskey brands lost their way and how they were then able to reverse their fortunes. They are joined by Fred Noe, Jim Beam’s great grandson and the Beam family’s seventh-generation distiller, to talk about his legendary father Booker Noe and his groundbreaking Small Batch Bourbon Collection. Fred also shares how his father got the idea for these pioneering American whiskies and how long he thinks this bourbon boom will last. So pour yourself a few fingers of your favorite American whiskey and listen to this episode of Life Behind Bars. Cheers! Life Behind Bars features Half Full’s editor Noah Rothbaum and its Senior Drinks Columnist David Wondrich as they discuss the greatest bartenders and greatest cocktails of all time. It won the 2018 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Award for the world’s best drinks podcast. Edited by Alex Skjong See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Fred Noe carries on the 200-year family legacy of Jim Beam® master distillers. Noe is a 7th generation master distiller at the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, Ky. In his additional role as bourbon ambassador for the Jim Beam Distillery, he shares the whiskey making craft and his family’s rich legacy in the world of Kentucky bourbon. Noe is the son of the late Frederick “Booker” Noe Jr., master distiller emeritus of Jim Beam Brands Company and great-grandson of founder Jim Beam, who began the legacy when he set up a frontier still in 1795. He joined the family business after graduation from Bellarmine College in Louisville, Ky. Although he “grew up” in the business, he began his career on the bottling line of the distillery. Gradually, his father tutored him in all aspects of the bourbon-making process, including grain selection, fermentation, and distillation. Noe played an important role in the development and promotion of The Small Batch Bourbon Collection® — Basil Hayden’s®, Knob Creek®, Baker’s®, and Booker’s® bourbons. These high premium bourbons were created under his father’s guidance in the early 1990s. Small batch releases mimic higher-proof, complex flavored pre-Prohibition whiskeys. Noe helped select initial batches by tasting samples at the family’s kitchen table. When Booker retired, Noe began serving as an ambassador of the collection. As the chief bourbon ambassador, he is a spokesman for the Jim Beam Distillery and the bourbon industry. In 2007, after years of rigorous apprenticeship and training, he was named master distiller. A frequent world traveler, he is a highly sought-after speaker. In 2007, Beam Global Spirits and Wine Suntory, Inc. honored Fred by placing his portrait on the Jim Beam Bourbon brand label alongside the six family distillers who preceded him in the family. Noe grew up in the house where his great-grandfather, the legendary Jim Beam, once lived. He still resides in Bardstown, Ky., in a house built adjacent to the Beam family home, with his wife, Sandy, and teenage son Frederick Booker Noe IV. He remains instrumental in the Beam business, dedicating himself to perfecting the family’s bourbon-making process and continuing his family’s legacy.
Steve and Renee talk to Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Famer Kathleen DiBenedetto. Brought into the Beam family by Booker Noe, Kathleen has had a distinguished career in marketing, sales, education and in her current role as a Senior Director in Commercial Marketing for Beam Suntory’s Luxury Brands. Booker Noe passed away in 2004, but some of the whiskey he laid down shortly before his death is adding a new chapter to his legacy. This past week, Booker's son Fred filled the first bottle of Booker's Rye, an experimental whiskey only Booker and a handful of people at Jim Beam knew about for many years - and discovered long after his passing. It's one of two new whiskies that help make up what we're unofficially calling the "Booker Noe Trilogy" along with the 25th Anniversary edition of Booker's from 2014, and we'll talk about it with Fred Noe on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, we'll have the latest on new whiskies from around the world, and one of the whiskies in this week's tasting notes may "enlighten" you a bit...
Baker Beam comes from one of Kentucky's legendary Bourbon families. However, the grand-nephew of Jim Beam and cousin to Booker Noe, Fred Noe, and Parker Beam doesn't often get the spotlight. If his name sounds familiar, it's because he's the namesake for Baker's Bourbon from Beam's Small Batch Collection, and that makes him one of the few living distillers with a Bourbon that bears his name. He'll share his history in distilling and memories of working with Booker Noe on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, the U.S. government shutdown is affecting whisky makers, but plenty of new whiskies beat Washington's budget clock in time to hit the market this week.
