Lauren Taus is the fiercest medicine I know of. Truly. Her very being-ness is salve for the soul. Our sisterhood, the way we jam, her phenomenal wisdom, her words, wow wow super wow. Lauren and I share a lot, we have a lot of similar life experiences that allow us to see the world through a similar lens. Witnessing the deaths of our mothers, both of us struggled with anorexia for years, both of us are in the healing space, and we are even born 1 day apart. There is so much juicy goodness in this episode, we talk about inner child work and how to cultivate a more loving relationship with ourselves. We talk about psychedelics and how to use them with reverence. We hone in on grief and loss and moving through them both. I'm so glad you're here and willing to listen, as this episode with Lauren was such a pleasure co-create. If you haven't already, will you take a moment to leave a 5-star review and a written review of this episode, and if it resonates, please share it far and wide. Below you'll find a bit more about Lauren, and be sure to follow her @lauren.taus LET'S GO! Lauren graduated summa cum laude from Barnard College at Columbia University with a BA in Religion before completing her Masters in Social Work at NYU. Lauren focuses on the matrices that hold individuals, rejecting mainstream efforts to pathologize people as if their symptoms could be isolated from their environments. Licensed as a clinical therapist in both New York and California, Lauren believes that life - and good psychotherapy - is psychedelic. She is trained by MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies), the Ketamine Training Center and in the shamanic realms. Lauren feels honored to partner with plant and compound allies in her work, but will always hold loving relationships as the most important medicine, and the only one we all really need. Lauren's biggest prayer is to wake people up to the magic of life and what they're part of. Lauren understands that the highest form of personal healing contributes to collective liberation. She feels particularly excited to share her work publicly. Lauren is a frequent contributor on stages at psychedelic conferences such as Meet Delic, Wonderland and Trail Blazers. Her work has also been featured in magazines such as Double Blind, New York Magazine, Chacruna, the Guardian, and Forbes. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I am so honored to share this conversation with a gem of a human, Lauren Taus. Lauren integrates modern science and ancient wisdom to support the personal transformation as a Psychedelic Therapist, Educator, and Speaker who hosts retreats and trainings all over the world. In this episode, we talk about the psychedelic space and plant medicines, her work with people across mental health realms as the founder of Inbodied Life, and the importance of a connection to life. Intergenerational healing dives into the multilayered aspects of the human condition. Lauren shares her transition from social work into psychotherapy, as well as how psychoactive substances were fused into her career trajectory. Lauren and I also dig into who psychedelics are for and who they may not be for, and the lessons Lauren learned through plants and mushrooms along her journey. We are all storytellers, and we all make up stories as well as have stories from our ancestral lines and those before us. Lauren believes we are all carrying content that isn't actually ours. When we can start to separate from it, we can heal — and in turn, our individual healing can become the collective healing. This is a really deep conversation about the psychedelic space and Lauren's experience with it, as further wisdom to share with the patients and clients she serves today. You know we're all about the shrooms here on HTW, and not just the ones that take you on a trip. But when it comes to other psychedelics and their potential health benefits, it can be hard to get over some misconceptions we have. Most of us grew up hearing “drugs are bad, mkay,” and while many can be—and nearly all without taking the proper precautions—it's taken a toll on public perception around certain compounds and held us back from some very useful and SAFE benefits. Lauren Taus is a licensed psychotherapist, practicing Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), and trained to work with both psychoactive compounds and plant medicines. Lauren leads Inbodied Life, a group therapy practice and she also offers immersive educational programs for clinicians to learn psychedelic assisted therapy and integration in contexts that hold personal healing as essential to effective facilitation. Lauren is a lifelong student, educator and activist. For decades, Lauren's work has focused on creating aligned, and kind mind-body connections to support complete health for individuals and the collective. She helps walk us through using these potent plants as tools for healing, looking at ketamine beyond the stigma (and where those stigmas may be right), and the potential uses for future psychedelic-assisted therapies. Lauren talks about… Her pain-to-purpose path into the world of mental health The value people get from their addicitons How ketamine-assisted psychotherapy works and the history of drug-assisted healing The experience of using ketamine beyond the stigma How we compromise ourselves to maintain relationships The impact of drug legalization Resources: Learn more at inbodiedlife.com Instagram: @lauren.taus Listen: Inbodied Life Podcast Subscribe to our YouTube Channel!
Lauren Taus has become quite a name in the psychedelic world. She is based in Los Angeles and is a licensed psychotherapist practicing Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in Los Angeles, California. She integrates modern science and ancient wisdom to support personal transformation and much needed systemic change. She started “Inbodied Life” as a private psychotherapy practice, and it blossomed into a group practice that is also a platform for education through in-person, experiential trainings and retreats. Lauren sits also on the advisory board of Journey Clinical, an amazing psychedelic company based in NYC. To me, Lauren is one of the most interesting and also important people in the new psychedelic space. Her social media language is really speaking to me, since she has a great way to really get into the important questions around psychedelics: how does change actually look like? On a daily basis ? Why do we all need TO, which means “time out” and how psychedelics can support us with that. We address Laurens way from anorexia to healing and her way through the 12 steps program, we talk about her about her acid trip with her dad, a doctor, who now works with her And how it works, if your family is starting to look into psychedelics too. And of course we talk about how a psychedelic journey can bring fun to our lives. Something I feel we should also talk about more often and with Lauren this is possible. https://www.inbodiedlife.com/ https://www.journeyclinical.com/
Have you ever wondered if you're allowed to fully express yourself, including all your emotions? How do we tap into our innate ability to heal ourselves? As caregivers, we devote our lives to helping others heal, with little left for ourselves. With more caregivers facing burnout than ever, it couldn't be more important to support one another and make healing fun again! Join me and Lauren Taus, on this week's episode of The Psychedelic Report, as we discuss the importance of both psychedelic and somatic therapies and how having courage to attempt the skill of grieving can take our healing to the next level.
What happens when someone takes psychedelics + they experience painful memories or an overload of emotion + thoughts that they aren't equipped to handle by themselves? Lauren Taus, psychedelics assisted therapist, educator, advocate + founder of In-bodied life, joins me to dive into the relationship of psychedelics + trauma. We get deep into some conversations about how psychedelics effect on our brain + body, which substances do we see as having a greater effect in working with trauma, what resources help support someone going through the healing work + much more. In this episode, you'll hear: The clinical perspective on “trauma” - (What happens to a person after the happening) Layers + variations of forms of trauma that exist (Individual, generational + systemic) How psychedelics heal trauma stored in the body The impact of psychedelics on our nervous system Navigating “bad trips” + reframing to ultimately be generative for our growth The potency of preparation, supportive relationships + love How can someone support themselves when trauma spontaneously resurfaces? What does integration look like for individuals who experience new memories or traumas unlocked by the psychedelics? Spiritually bypassing versus doing “the work” from a spiritual lens Honoring our traditions, ritual + ceremony from a place of authenticity Navigating the cultural appropriation of indigenous practices + healing our ancestral shame Systemic trauma for the communities of color + how to become stronger allies THE SKINNY ON OUR SEXY GUESTS Lauren Taus is a psychedelic assisted therapist, educator and activist. Lauren is the Founder of INbodied Life, the co-Founder of the Psychedelic Coalition for Health, and a clinical advisor to Journey Clinical. Lauren runs a small group, psychotherapy practice in Los Angeles and leads immersive, experiential trainings for providers to learn psychedelic assisted therapy and integration. In today's transmission, Zahara sits with Psychedelic Therapist, Educator, and Speaker Lauren Taus. With Lauren being a sought-after psychedelic therapist, working alongside her dad, who also happens to be a pioneer in the legal psychedelic therapy space, you may think her life's always been sunshine and rainbows–but Lauren's no stranger to darkness. She spent her early years relentlessly striving to live up to her title as a ‘good girl,' chasing accolades, struggling with anorexia, and feeling empty inside. Since then, she's had many deaths, resurrections, and rebirths aided by both natural and synthetic psychedelics. Lauren explains why she chooses to embrace her entire emotional keyboard, how she's come to love her Jewish heritage, why she strongly opposes hierarchies of any form, and why she strives always to say ‘thank you,', especially during her most challenging moments. In this episode of The Dojo:Lauren's deaths, resurrections, and rebirths aided by psychedelicsTransferring ancestral pain and trauma into compassion and understanding Lauren's favorite Hebrew morning prayerHow ketamine, a dissociative, actually helps us feel more Synthetic vs. plant-based medicines and drug hierarchiesLauren's experience of tripping with, and working alongside, her dadResources:Apply for the January 2023 Dojo Masters ContainerConnect with Lauren:Spotify Playlist: Lauren In the DojoInstagram: @lauren.tausWebsite: Psychedelic Assisted Therapy & Integration TrainingConnect with Zahara:Instagram: @zaharazimringThe Dojo IG: @thedojocouncilWebsite: zaharazimring.comEmail: zahara@zaharazimring.com This show is produced by Soulfire Productions

Lauren Taus is a Psychedelic Therapist and Educator. She specializes in Ketamine Therapy and has also studied MDMA, psilocybin, ayahuasca and DMT. She believes that psychedelic medicines may be the most effective interventions for treating mental health and supporting well-being, and I totally agree. She also talks about the importance of integration in order to maximize the benefits of the medicine when returning to “real life”. This episode isn't made to convince you to seek this type of therapy, but just to help educate, inform and bring more awareness to this sacred form of healing. IG: @lauren.tausinbodiedlife.com

While 2020 has been difficult in so many ways, this year brought psychedelic medicine further ahead by leaps and bounds. At Maya, we were honored to share the wisdom of 25 healers and leaders in the psychedelic world through this podcast. Today we are sharing their advice to practitioners. On the show, our guests offer advice and perspectives to the therapists doing this important work. Their wisdom is at times simple, profound, and even controversial or contradictory. They speak of how to approach clients of specific demographics, how therapists might relate to themselves in this work, and what our collective responsibility is to the psychedelic movement as a whole. Most of all, across the board, our guests have expressed their gratitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you, psychedelic therapists! You can hear more from each of our guests in a full episode at mayahealth.com/podcast. Today I'm speaking to Lauren Taus, a licensed psychotherapist and a yoga and meditation teacher based in Venice Beach, California. In addition to modalities like cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems work, mindfulness, and somatic techniques, she also offers ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP) when she feels that it's appropriate for clients. On the show we discuss Lauren's background with MAPS MDMA protocols and the tutelage of her mentor Phil Wolfson, editor of The Ketamine Papers. We talk about equal access to psychedelic medicine and her advice for young practitioners. Lauren also has her own podcast, INbodied Life with guests like Rick Doblin, Rachel Yehuda, and Camille Barton so we share a few podcasting tips as well. So prepare for a journey and may we all return with a little more softness. In today's episode, Kyle interviews Lauren Taus: yoga instructor with 20 years of experience, host of the Inbodied Life podcast, and psychotherapist specializing in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. Taus talks about growing tired of more traditional therapy and cognitive loops so many people find themselves in through cognitive behavioral therapy leading to her taking a break from therapy altogether, trying psychedelics with her brother, learning of psychedelics being used therapeutically, and coming out of the psychedelic closet to her father (who now works with her). She speaks about her practice, and the process and importance of building up therapeutic relationships first before introducing any psychedelics. She discusses how Covid-19, cannabis legalization and the way our culture is set up are all exacerbating mental health issues and the challenges of fighting through that while trying to better partner with disadvantaged communities, the frustrations around the illegality of certain medicines, the power of ketamine, the concept of spiritual bypassing, what she's doing differently during this disconnected time, harm reduction around psychedelics without a therapist nearby, mindfulness, and the importance of touch and dancing. Notable Quotes “Healing happens in relationship, and it happens in relationship with self too. I believe that so many people (and I certainly have been one of them) are walking warzones. The violence that happens inside of an individual heart and mind is far more outrageous than what you’d read in the news, and what you read in the news is a lot. ...With my work, I want to know you, I want to feel you, I want you to feel safe, I want you to feel love, I want you to feel unconditional regard and care. And that doesn’t happen overnight, and that doesn’t happen when you take a pill.” “When I think about what’s happening with cannabis now, there’s essentially white cartels, and there’s cannabis stores on every block of Venice Beach, and people making lots and lots of money on weed. And then there’s so many black and brown people in prison for smoking a joint. And so the inequity there- what kind of reparations can we do? I like to say you can’t bypass the 'fuck you' on your way to forgiveness. And love is big enough to hold the anger and the rage, and there’s appropriate righteous anger that’s due.” “People are struggling to be with what is- to welcome the wildlife that courses through their veins, to sit still with their fear and their sadness, and even their joy. I have so many people who try to crush their joy and celebration because they’re afraid of losing it. And they will- it’s going to shift. But can we be in the big wideness of what it is to be human? And in our inability to do so, we create all these different unique and not-so-unique misguided defense mechanisms. All these mechanisms for evasion- flight strategies. They can look like work, they can look like sex and food and drugs and alcohol and running or even meditation. The intention is what informs it a lot- what are you doing? Are you looking to go in, or are you looking to leave?” “Do your work and remember to play along the way. Joy is an act of resistance.” Links Inbodiedlife.com Instagram Inbodied Life podcast, featuring Kyle About Lauren Taus Lauren Taus graduated summa cum laude from Barnard College at Columbia University in 2004 with a BA in Religion before continuing on to NYU for her Masters in Social Work. In this very thought provoking discussion, Lauren Taus and I discuss consciousness medicine. If you have never heard psychedelics used in that way and are opposed of any mind-altering aspects of humanity, think about one of the things you will hear in this episode and that is that that “the first psychedelic known to man, is breath.” We are all on our own separate paths and all of us, in whatever way, need to heal, whatever works for you might not work for someone else but we also all need each other. I have often told my children that if they didn't need anyone else in this life? That they would be the only one on the planet. Lauren's energy, intelligence and compassion is infectious and I hope that you will enjoy this conversation as much as I enjoyed bring it to you.
