This experience helped expand her understanding of spiritual abuse both within and outside of religious contexts, and has allowed her to become a voice of advocacy within the psychedelic and therapeutic communities she shows up in. Through years experience facilitating support groups, integration circles, retreats, and teaching workshops for folks navigating themes of religious trauma, spiritual abuse, deconstruction, and reclamation through the Reclamation Collective, Kayla aspires to curate expanded offerings for survivors on their healing trajectories that prioritize personal autonomy and pursue radical authenticity. This is powerful conversation between Kayla & host Daniel Cordua - an important listen for those who have felt religious trauma in their lives, who are part of spiritual and/or religious communities and/or take on teachers from those circles, who are leaders in those communities, or who have experience spiritual abuse. We talk about:- What is trauma?  How do we know we are experiencing it?- What exactly is religious trauma?  How do we experience it?- Kayla's own experience experiencing and then navigating her religious trauma- Gaining distance, perspective, clarity and a life-giving deconstruction of our religious experiences- Religious trauma for women, trans-communities, queer folk, and all gender identifications- What is spiritual abuse?  How do we experience - and/or perpetrate it consciously and unconsciously- Power dynamics in religious communities, spiritual communities, healing spaces, therapy, and plant medicine circles- The amazing “Spiritual Power Inventory” tool that I think all religious, spiritual, & healing communities, members and leaders should employand much more!Connect with Kayla & the Reclamation Collective: reclamationcollective.comConnect with Daniel for your Free Discovery Session -  for individuals + couples who are ready to explore, illuminate + empower their lives & their relationshipsSUMMER SALE ! Truth Fairy and Dr. T welcome Brett to the podcast to talk about his journey in “coming out from under the rocks”, which is to say emerging from the underground. Brett has studied, refined, and used a broad range of substances and practices and he helps people find a framework for holding their experience in both the mind and body. Dr. T, Truth Fairy, and Brett have a very open discussion about the path of a psychedelic therapist.Brett shares how he approaches working with a client and what medicines he recommends to open their journey with a calm headspace and a clear mind. He encourages time in nature during the treatment and describes walking close to a beautiful river. He has spent almost twenty years, ten of which have been with his wife and partner, developing a framework for working with various medicines that is uniquely suited to each client's needs. This methodical yet flexible approach allows for slowing thoughts down and opening consciousness to true understanding. The conversation includes breaking down the different consciousness states, child consciousness, adult consciousness, and somatic consciousness, how to translate experiences had on medicine into daily non-medicated life, and how to stabilize clients. Brett approaches his psychedelic therapy practices from a Buddhist-influenced perspective with a focus on sourcing his own medicines. Truth Fairy, Dr. T and Brett connect in very real ways over shared theories and beliefs about healing.“I have actually asked [my trusted peers] if this gets off the rails, if I look like I'm not being authentic and acting with integrity, I expect you to tell me. I think there's a chance if you don't have that structure, that safety net, then it can get weird. We can create ideas that are just not helpful for ourselves and our clients. I think that there's a real opportunity when we're self-taught and self-directed to cultivate our own personal strengths and really to find that approach, that unique gift that we bring to the table.” - Brett---Punk Therapy: website |email

“Navigating Power Dynamics in Psychedelic Therapy” is a topic seldom covered, but wholly embedded into the journeyer-facilitator relationship. Our hosts dive into the vulnerable nature of psychedelic experiences and the importance of having a facilitator who is knowledgeable, trustworthy, and professional. Jimmy and Nicholas discuss the spectrum of power dynamic violations, the subtle and imperceptible forms of facilitator abuse, ranging from being too directive in the healing process to tangible abuses such as sexual, financial, or physical abuse. After highlighting key questions that journeyers should ask when finding the right facilitator, our hosts analyze whether or not facilitator training programs are a safeguard against power dynamics. What are the best ways to vet a facilitator based on training, background, and experience?Later, Jimmy and Nicholas discuss how Psychedelic Passage addresses and mitigates power dynamics in their network of facilitators. Don't Get Scammed: What Every Potential Psychedelic Therapist Needs to Know Introduction: In this episode of The Psychedelic Coach Podcast, your host Kole Whitty talks about how to avoid being scammed in the emerging field of psychedelic therapy. If you are a psychotherapist or aspire to become a psychedelic psychotherapist, Kole will share some things you may not have considered that are already happening and likely to increase in the coming years. Medicalized, Decriminalized, and Legalized Models: Kole explains that there are different models for psychedelic care: medicalized, decriminalized, and legalized. None of them is a total solution, and each has its problems. Limitations of Medicalized Models: Kole focuses on the limitations of medicalized models of care, where participants must qualify for treatment based on predetermined criteria. This means that only certain populations will have access to care due to location and financial access. Challenges for Psychedelic Therapists: Kole emphasizes the challenges that psychedelic therapists may face, such as finding a qualified mental health practitioner in areas where they are scarce, and dealing with insurance and billing issues. Additionally, certified training programs can have waitlists of up to a year, and even after completing the program, there is no guarantee of employment due to the legal status of psychedelics at the federal level. Conclusion: Kole warns potential psychedelic therapists to be aware of the challenges and potential scams in the field, but also encourages them to continue pursuing their passion for helping people. She believes that with education and collaboration, the psychedelic therapy community can overcome these challenges and make a positive impact on people's lives.

She is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of British Columbia currently working on a clinical trial demonstrating the feasibility of delivering psilocybin therapy in a group set, setting and integration model with Roots to Thrive. She is certified in psychedelic medicine through the California Institute of Integral Studies and has also received training through Therapsil and Roots to Thrive. Valorie is a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians, specializing in Emergency Medicine and Palliative Care.I am really excited to bring you this conversation. Those of you who have listened to the podcast know that, as a self experimenter, I have dabbled with the use of Psilocybin in microdoses as a way to manage depression and anxiety. Although we don't discuss microdosing in this episode, you will still find a ton of information and insight here as we discuss the use of psilocyban mushrooms in larger doses as a way to help patients deal with existential end of life mental health difficulties. The common thread through it all is that humans have lost their connection to one another. Human connection used to be vital for survival but is something we have lost through the way we now look at our lives with a colonial lense. We also discuss how our dismissal of indigenous culture has negatively affected our long term mental health with our disconnection from community and nature. We chat about how poor mental health is addressed with pharmacology rather than digging down to the roots of trauma and how natural medicinal compounds such as psilocybin can help.I've been wanting to share a conversation like this for some time and I'm so happy to be bringing this to you now.TherapsilRoots to ThriveMultidisciplinary Association For Psychedelic StudiesSave 15% at Redshift Sports when you use the code MB40Save 25% off a consultation at Cycling 101 when you use the code MB40 at checkout.Save 25% at Dynamic Cyclist when you use the promo code MB40 at checkout.Visit Rollingdale CycleThanks to Ottalaus Inc. for their support. Thanks to Spandex Panda for their support. Thanks to Lakeside Bikes in Invermere for supporting me!

Taking a guided psilocybin trip is now viewed as a highly effective way to ease fear of dying. But it's complicated. It took Debbie several months to find just the right person to interview about the therapeutic benefits of psychedelics. Her research led her to Dr. Bree Johnston who is perfectly credentialed for this topic as well as being a notably clear and wise teacher for [B]OLDER podcast listeners. She's been a practicing physician for 35 years and recently became certified in Psychedelic Therapies and Research through the California Institute of Integral Studies. They talk about:- The problem of legality (she predicts psilocybin therapy will be legal in a few years)- Why psychedelic therapy is especially useful for older, dying patients- Her own psychonaut experiences- The dissolution of "self" and becoming part of a whole (a common experience on a psychedelic trip)- The current studies being done at Johns Hopkins and NYU- Microdosing- And her evaluation of which psychedelic therapies are currently most useful: psilocybin, MDMA (aka ecstasy), ketamine (not illegal but results can vary widely). They also explore the complexity that comes with medicalizing psychedelics as well as the ethics surrounding legalization.  This is a highly informative conversation with a knowledgeable physician. Mentioned in this episode or useful:Dr. Bree Johnston on LinkedInThe Trip Treatment by Michael Pollan (The New Yorker; February 5, 2015)How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence by Michael Pollan (Penguin Press; 2018)The Pied Piper of Psychedelic Toads by Kimon de Greef (The New Yorker; March 21, 2022)Berkeley Center for the Science of PsychedelicsPsychedelic Therapy Training Certificate | California Institute of Integral StudiesThe Microdose NewsletterNew York Magazine Investigative Podcast: Cover Story: Power TripJohns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness ResearchCenter for Psychedelic Medicine | NYUA Really Good Day: How Microdosing Made a Mega Difference in My Mood, My Marriage, and My Life by Ayelet Waldman (Knopf; 2017)Brian Anderson - Studies at UCSFSacred Knowledge: Psychedelics and Religious Experiences by William Richards (Columbia University Press; 2015)Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies - MAPSMAPS NewsletterHandbook of Medical Hallucinogens by Charles Grob and Jim Grigsby (The Guilford Press; 2021)Note from DebbieIf you've been enjoying the podcast, please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts. Dr Watts is a clinical psychologist, a mother, and a nature lover. Her work as the Clinical Lead for Imperial College London's psilocybin trial, and subsequent role as the Clinical Director at Synthesis Institute, have made her one of the most prominent voices and minds in the field of psychedelic research. Dr Watts builds tools and structures to foster connectedness after psychedelic experiences, finding inspiration for their design from nature. The most recent of which is the integration community she's created - ACER Integration. While working in clinical practice Rosalind has developed a psychedelic therapy model she coined ACE, which stands for, ‘Accept, Connect, Embody'. Based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and the ‘Psychological Flexibility Model', she mapped the journey that individuals under the influence of a psychedelic go through when they dive into their experience, extract the meaningful lessons to heal, and then integrate and embody them afterwards. Her qualitative research, exploring the perspectives of participants in several psychedelic research studies, gave rise to her interest in the common theme of ‘connectedness to Self, others, and the world' as an essential aspect of psychedelic treatment. With that patient-centred attitude, she gives insightful talks focusing on the patients' perspective on the psychedelic journey as a part of the healing process.Listen to the podcast to learn about the beauty and the nuances of psychedelic experience and healing.Join Dr Watts for the inaugural launch of ACER Integration here -> https://dandelion.earth/events/622233b3025fc50011891f2e Learn more about ACER Integration -> https://www.drrosalindwatts.com/ Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)Psychedelic therapyForensic psychologyThe Portman ClinicPsychoanalysisPsychedelic use and recidivismAyahuascaMichael PollanRobin Carhart-HarrisMDMAMendel KaelenKintsugiPsilocybinBad tripWilliam A. This work is backed up with scientific research in the neuroscience and phenomenology of mindfulness, flow, and other exceptional states. As co-author of The Ketamine Papers and other ongoing research, Glenn is participating in the current revival of scientific interest in this legal and promising psychedelic antidepressant. His motivation in advancing the study of ketamine therapy is based on how quickly and effectively it can relieve symptoms of depression—often in just a few hours. He also works with FireflyVR as a content expert developing virtual reality education products to help individuals prepare themselves for ketamine therapy. As Main Editor of the International Journal of Transpersonal Studies, a peer-reviewed scientific journal that focuses on whole person approaches to psychology and wellness, Glenn has brought this publication from fewer than 25 subscribers to almost 100,000 article downloads per year by nearly 50,000 total users. As former professor and founding chair of a PhD program in Integral and Transpersonal Psychology, he attracted more than 100 doctoral students to his doctoral program in just four years. As co-editor of The Wiley-Blackwell Handbook of Transpersonal Psychology, Glenn has played a key role in the revival of transpersonal psychology, and in identifying and cultivating a second wave of the field based on embodiment, social embeddedness, diversity, and transformation.Glenn is transitioning out of the university setting to spend more time doing scientific research and to give more room to his small boutique coaching practice where he teaches and applies the attentional skills he has developed. The skills that Glenn teaches are based in bottom-up emergence of one's own unique capacities and creativity—one that complements more conventional approaches to management of feelings and behavior. As such, working with Glenn is an entry onto a path that opens toward more integrated ways of bringing one's whole self to every area of life. 024: "Families that trip together, stay together - confessions of an underground psychedelic therapist" with Noah H.

JOURNEYS - die Reise zu Dir Selbst

The demand for guided psychedelic journeys has continued to grow in the U.S. in recent years, and "underground" work has become increasingly mainstream. In today's episode I had the chance to interview my first guest on his work as an underground psychedelic therapist - his name is Noah. Like most people I know, he felt some kind of lack of meaning and purpose in his own life which led him to his first ceremonial psychedelic experience. It revealed the lack of his father's presence in his life, and their lack of connection. Over the years he was eventually able to explore plant medicine healing in a group ceremonial setting with most of his family members. Through this he realised the benefits and the potential of a more slowly opening arc in this kind of work vs. the current therapeutical model that fosters mystical experiences in one or two sessions to heal a specific psychiatric disorder or trauma. This has informed the way he now facilitates his own ceremonies for groups - largely with families - which focus on shared multi-generational plant medicine work that is supported and held by the safe container of a community on an ongoing basis. We talk about his PHD thesis on the topic and dig into his experiences and knowledge around the facilitation of these underground ceremonies and how he tries to create spaces for connection and what he calls “role dissolution”, where the structures of social reality are softened and where it becomes possible to re-articulate these structures so people can relate to each other and self in new ways. When I asked him about WHY he does that and why he takes so much risk in doing so his answer was quite simple. He said the results just speak for themselves and that it is the right thing to do. For me, our talk shed some new light on the phenomenon of people coming together as groups to do psychedelic work, acting as catalysts for each other's development over a longer period of time vs. one time use to treat a specific symptom or issue. I learned a lot in this talk and I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did.
