Danny O'Keefe's best known song is “Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues,” which cracked the Top Ten in 1972. Jackson Browne put O'Keefe's song, “The Road,” on his hugely-successful Running on Empty album. O'Keefe's compositions have been covered by a wide range of artists, from Elvis Presley to Miranda Lambert, from Andy Williams to Ben Harper. His new album, Circular Turns, now out on Sunset Boulevard Records, covers the period from 1999-2017, which saw O'Keefe collaborate with the likes of Bob Dylan, Michael McDonald, Bill Braun, and Fred Knoblach. He also reimagines some of his best songs of the past, like “Angel Spread Your Wings” and “Magdelena.” In addition, there's a second disc featuring an intimate live performance recorded in 2016. O'Keefe talks about what led to this new compilation, and the stories behind some of the songs, including a "collaboration" with Bob Dylan. He also touches on growing up in Washington state and learning from producer Arif Mardin.

In this weeks episode, I am chatting with Magdalena Finn about the journey she went on when planning to give birth to her son. She candidly shares how she was able to break the generational trauma that her mother and grandmother experienced, which allowed her to have such a positive birth for both her and her son. In addition, we talked about how surprised she felt as her son grew, and she found some of the normal toddler behaviours really triggering for her - and what she was able to do about it, by re-parenting herself. This has been pivotal in her life and she has a wide range of tools that she talks about to support her nervous system, which I am sure you will find helpful. I hope you enjoy this deeply inspiring episode. You can follow Magdelena @power.in.birthHer website is - https://www.powerinbirth.co.ukIf you would like to buy a copy of either of the books that accompany this podcast please go to your online bookseller or visit Amazon:-Labour of Love - The Ultimate Guide to Being a Birth Partner - click here:-https://bit.ly/LabourofloveThe Art of Giving Birth - Five Key Physiological Principles - https://amzn.to/3EGh9dfPregnancy Journal for 'The Art of Giving Birth' - Black and White version https://amzn.to/3CvJXmOPregnancy Journal for 'The Art of Giving Birth'- Colour version https://amzn.to/3GknbPFYou can also purchase a copy via my website - www.birthability.co.uk Follow me on Instagram @theultimatebirthpartner @birthabilityBook a 1-2-1 session with Sallyann - https://linktr.ee/SallyannBeresford Please remember that the information shared with you in this episode is solely based on my own personal experiences as a doula and the private opinions of my guests, based on their own experiences. In this episode Magdelena shares what it's like to be a Powerful Creator who also taps into the Creative to write songs and create music. Magdalena Atkinson – a soulful singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, yogini, music therapy facilitator and a dreamer... On her journey she recognized her talents when she was a girl, she lost them for over a decade to realize that creativity is her healer, her best friend and a gift worth sharing and nurturing. Her music gently heals confusion, empowers and inspires. Experience this truly magical and eclectic voice, at times touching your heart with its gentle quality, at others lifting your spirit with its power and resonance, inviting you to dance, stump or sing-along. Her solo music is an original and unique blend of modern folk with elements of progressive new age. In 2019 she has published an album "Love & Light" , the kindred spirit to her first album "Beauty & Power". The lyrical romance of the past grew into a much stronger, positive and uplifting influence, leading in 2020 to the creation of the band - 'Magdalena & the Mystical Birds', with richer jazzy and rhythmic section, perfect for future festivals and wider audiences.Links:Website http://www.magdalenaatkinson.co.uk/ Fb https://www.facebook.com/MagdalenaAtkinsonMusicInstagramhttp://www.instagram.com/MagdalenaAtkinsonMusicYoutube https://www.youtube.com/user/magdalena4musicSpotify https://open.spotify.com/album/0df73gOVCF6f3gBXygJrC6?si=-UNPIZhxR_CheBClcJrycg&utm_source=copy-link

“Colombia is a place where magic seems to happen every moment and I would argue that only a people like the Colombians, with their enduring spirit of place, their indescribable capacity for joy, could have endured the agonies of the last fifty years.” Author and RCGS Honorary Vice President, Wade Davis says his latest book -- Magdelena - a River of Dreams -- is a love letter of sorts. Colombia, he says, is "a nation that allowed me to dream, that gave me my wings to fly." His love affair with this troubled nation began as a fourteen year-old in the late sixties, when he went on an exchange from suburban Montreal. He has been returning ever since, as a writer, botanist, traveller, scholar of indigenous religions, captivated by the unbelievable range of history, cultures, environments, climates, and people that exist in this diverse South American nation.

Words Have Power In this episode we talk about how words have incredible power to either bless or curse, to build up or tear down. We talk about how social media can be a place of connection, but also a place where we quickly forget to treat people with dignity. The truth that our words have power to restore, heal, be prophetic is something that can challenge us to be more discerning about how we speak and take the lead by being people who bless others. Sister Miriam’s one thing - A gift of a handmade journal made by Magdelena. Thank you so much!   Michelle’s one thing - The Steubenville Encounter Conference in Dallas   Heather’s one thing - The podcast “Every Knee Shall Bow” on the Ascension website    Discussion questions:     What struck you from the podcast? When have you witnessed the desire to be right as more important than caring for and respecting another person? Is this something you have struggled with? What would it look like if we all started intentionally offering life giving words to those around us instead of criticism, negative humor, and harshness? How might God be calling you to speak goodness and blessing to someone in your life?   Journal Questions: What type of patterns have you gotten into with not using your words to bring life? Is the Holy Spirit asking you to go back and ask forgiveness from someone who you have hurt with your words? Take time to reflect on how you speak to others, your tone and your words. How do you think other people feel when you speak to them?   Quote to Ponder: “Do not accept anything as truth that lacks love and do not accept anything as love that lacks truth.  One without the other is a destructive lie” - St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross   Scripture for Lectio Divina - Proverbs 16:24 “Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.”

Hello again. This is Mystic Babylon Open Mike Poetry Podcast broadcasting from near the Haight with as usual, for my audio podcast, two other poets. The two poets are Joanna Planteen whose pen name is Monique Marquisa de Magdelena, and the other poet is Dorothy Walters. Joanna, or Monique, as she calls herself, is going to have an all-female poetry collective with a first show Dec. 2nd. Info about this can be found at: http://www.thebeatmuseum.org , or http://www.thewordparty.com . From what I understand, it will be at the Beat Museum at 7:00 pm the aforementioned day. You can hear some of Monique’s early all-girl band at http://www.inflatableboyclams.com . She hopes to have a web site running at http://www.moniquepoet.com within a few weeks or so . Dorothy Walters has two books out. She is into Kundalini awakening, and writes about it in her books. Her poetry book is entitled: “Marrow of Flame” which are poems of a spiritual journey, and she has another book, a spiritual auto-biography, called “Unmasking the Rose” which she describes as a record of a Kundalini Initiation also with some poetry in it. She has a blog at http://kundalinisplendor.blogspot.com . Must I remind you to buy our books. My book is available from most on-line bookstores and is called: “Spirits of Bondage and Inherent Transcendence”. I probably will only read 60 or 70 of the poems online from that book which has a total of about 180 poems in it so please buy it, to read the rest of the poems. I want to publish another book of poems that I have, but I need your support so I can afford it. At least, thanks for listening. The photo is an image of Dorothy Walters.
