We were joined by Dr. Mary J. Ruwart to discuss how she found libertarianism when she realized the "philanthropy" of government services were actually impairing people, what she learned about the harmful nature of regulations while working in the medical industry - which lead to the writing of Death by Regulation, and why we should not trust everything we are told buy the powers that be when it comes to our own health. To vaccine or not to vaccine, that has become a polarizing question. But why is there censorship of early interventions and also of doctors writing scripts for them? Why are we being pitted against each other? Dr. Ruwart has been in the pharmaceutical industry for many years, run for the presidential primary on the Libertarian ticket, and is author of three books, one on how the FDA became what she thinks it is today. This is a tell-it-like-we-think-it conversation. Mary J. Ruwart, Ph.D. chairs a for-profit IRB and is a former research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry. She has a B.S. in biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Michigan State University. She did post-doctoral work at the St. Louis University Medical School's Department of Surgery and became an Assistant Professor of Surgery before joining the Upjohn Company. Science is always changing, and we are in a circumstance that is evolving, but it seems that the “narrative” of much of the media is not representing accurately both sides of the science. Turns out there are details not widely discussed on most TV or radio shows. You will hear some of that here including: Who is most apt to die from Covid and why. What does obesity have to do with it. Is heart damage happening more in vaccinated young adults than from Covid. Why getting two boosters a year exposes you to the “inflammatory spike” protein. The Covid spike protein binds to human tissues than any other animal the bat it derives from, and this is very unusual and makes us wonder about human gain-of-functioning engineering. We are seeing a level of censorship worldwide - bigger than we have ever seen before, even in the medical journals which are thus becoming untrustworthy now. So, in this show we ponder what is going on. Did you know that the Pfizer submission to FDA for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) is still under EUA? The full approval has been for Biotech – in this show Dr. R. discusses the difference. You cannot have a vaccine on an EUA if there are already “early effective interventions”. Critical to keep in mind. We discuss the veracity of VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) and why this is not being discussed, tracked, and Dr. R's interpretation of the numbers. Dr. Ruwart believes, teaches, and writes that “Whoever controls your body, controls your mind.” Think, read, question, debate, learn… but stay calm. And informed. Dr. Ruwart says, “If the vaccine works, then you don't need to worry about an unvaccinated person. If the vaccine doesn't work, it makes no sense to have a mandate. Especially with something so new.” Dr. Ruwart says the research on the children 5 to 12 years old was done on a group of 2000 children. None in the experiemental nor placebo arm during this time got Covid. 5% of the children were lost to follow-up. Is this enough safety data to inject our children? Dr. Ruwart says it is something to ponder. We discuss blood labs to see if heart damage is occurring and suggest nutraceuticals to take prophylactically, especially in children and young adults, that may be heart-protective - if you decide that moving forward is the best way to go. These are suggestions based on physiology, not studies. Many studies are included below for your personal reading. Dr. Ruwart's three books, “Healing Our World,” “Short Answers to the Tough Questions,” and “Death by Regulation” are available at Amazon.

Dr. Mary Ruwart is a research scientist, ethicist, and a libertarian author and activist. She has a Ph.D. in Biophysics and worked as a senior research scientist developing new therapies for a variety of diseases. She serves as Chair for Liberty International and Secretary of the Foundation for a Free Society. She is the author of Healing our World and Death by Regulation. Visit her website: www.ruwart.com. Dr. Ruwart worked for the Upjohn Company, researching medicine and developing pharmaceutical drugs. Her book, Death by Regulation, explains how the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has harmed Americans by adding regulations to drug approval, though safety and effectiveness in drugs has not improved. She has calculated that the FDA has shaved five years off the lives of Americans. The cost of FDA approval rises every year, making it harder for drug companies to research new treatments. Dr. Ruwart explains why the marketplace was an effective system for eliminating drugs that were not effective before the FDA dramatically increased their influence in the 1960s. The FDA has shifted the medical paradigm from prevention to treatment, and away from more nutritional or holistic methods. We also discuss potential medical businesses for seasteads, for example, offering third-party testing for new drugs, medical tourism, and treatments that are approved in countries other than the United States, like adult stem-cell treatment. Dr. Ruwart also explains how the FDA prohibited the development of COVID-19 tests, delaying the response to the pandemic in the U.S. Watch an April 25, 2020 Webinar, Dr. Mary J Ruwart: Healthcare vs Pandemics, hosted by Students for Liberty. She is the author of several books including Healing Our World and Death by Regulation. Currently, Dr. Ruwart serves as Chair of Liberty International. SchiffGold’s It’s Your Dime features “straight talk” interviews with movers and shakers in the world of precious metals, investing, politics and economics.
There has been no shortage of ink spilled arguing how we fix our broken US health care system so today I will use the spoken word instead. Fundamentally, we all want the same things from the system: Quality care, Affordable care, and Access to care. The real question is how do we move from here to there? Are there people who have fixed these problems even on a small scale that we can use as guides to work things out? Finally, should we look off shores for solutions to our woes? I feel that there are a few fundamental problems within our current framework that need to be recognized as the problems so that we can focus our solutions appropriately. The large problems are: 1) a lack of transparency on costs, 2) regulations that impede access to affordable care, and 3) a disconnect between the patient and the person and/or entity providing care. In my view, it is not reasonable to look to adopt systems and solutions from other countries as there are too many differences between our cultures, demographics, wealth, and economic infrastructure to expect the adoption of other countries' health systems to work in the US any more than our way of life would work in those countries. It is also not obvious how much we should spend on the care we receive. In that, I mean to say that there is no ideal GDP figure that we should target because you have to spend money on something and who is to say what the right amount is? We spend significantly less on feeding ourselves now than in the past which has freed up money to pay for other products and services - some of which are health care. I certainly don't mean to imply the amount we spend on care is correct right now but simply that using a random GDP per centage should not be a gauge for success. If we spent 30% of our GDP on health but we lived healthy and productive lives to age 150 thanks to gene therapy no one would think we were overspending. However, with that said, it is clear that we are not getting value for what we spend on care. By that token, we are paying too much for what we are getting and need to find ways to achieve the goals set forth above. I believe we have actually been shown some solutions that are already working that don't require significant legislative action and can be implemented today that will improve health, lower costs, and improve access. First, primary care could be delivered through the direct care model. Even specialized care could be administered this way. Physicians have shown that they can radically reduce the price of care to patients and provide them superior care than through traditional insurance third party pay plans. Second, we could switch from a third party insurance system to measures that control costs and put patients back in control of the shopping of services with health sharing or HSAs. Finally, we could move for a decreased regulatory burden on pharmaceuticals allowing patients to get medications from anywhere in the world and reduce the testing required by the FDA on efficacy (which would reduce the time and cost for new products to come to market.) These ideas simply provide a framework for changing the landscape of health care but are proven to work and would certainly put us on a more rational path while freeing up resources to take care of those who are unable to pay. Eric Larson is the host of the Paradocs. show notes Episode 10: Mary Ruwart describes how changing the FDA would free our market Episode 12: Dr. Keith Smith tells us how his full price transparency lowers the cost not just for his patients but patients everywhere. Episode 34: Dr. Lee Gross explains how direct primary care is a proven game changer in the lives for those without much money and is providing better care than expensive health plans. Dr. Mary Ruwart joins me to talk about self-ownership, medical freedom and the seemingly radical idea of the Separation of Church and State. You can follow her work at: http://www.ruwart.com Dr. Ruwart is a very warm, compassionate and intelligent person who truly believes, as I do, that the principles of individual liberty are the best ideas to organize a society upon. We discuss her most recent book "Death By Regulation." http://www.ruwart.com/product/death-regulation Dr. Ruwart makes the compelling case that the increased FDA regulatory authority granted by the 1962 Drug Amendment Act has led to a stifling of innovation, the massive increase in drug costs and the death of nearly 15,000,000 Americans. http://www.ruwart.com/blog/a-1962-law-slowed-drug-development-changing-it-could-slash-drug-prices.html I've bashed big pharma many times in the past and our conversation made me reconsider redirecting the blame more toward the FDA and those laws that give it the authority which has created the modern drug industry. We also discuss the concept of self-ownerships. This is the concept that you own yourself and that when the government tells you what you can and can't do they are violating this basic individual right. Her take is that libertarianism or the repeat for individual rights is the compassionate way to organize society. Dr. Ruwart was an early follower of Ayn Rand but felt there was something missing from her interpretation of individualism. She believes that humans have an innate need for other humans and that this is on the genetic level. And that charity and compassion are comparable with livery and help the person whose doing the helping more than those being helped. Love thy neighbor is still valid today as it was 2000 years ago. Dr. Ruwart also has a fascinating take on how government regulations are in fact a form of non-voluntary human experimentation that violates the ethical framework meant to protect people from being experimented upon without their consent. She is on the board of Institutional Review Board that is tasked with helping to insure that informed consent and certain guidelines are followed for human testing. http://www.ruwart.com/blog/an-ethicist-asks-is-regulation-unethical-human-experimentation.html During our conversation we also talk about the idea of The Separation of Medicine and State just as there is the Separation of Church and State. We discusses how both are based upon the same principle as self-ownership. The topic of the opioid crisis came up as well. Dr. Ruwart shared her personal story of how she had to watch her sister with cancer needlessly suffering due to issues with the red tape around pain medicine. She also related how her sister became so ill and was in so much pain they decided together to go to Dr. Kervokian to end her life. A very powerful story and highlights how we need to change the laws to allow individual to exercise their inherent right of self determination and have painless, effective means of ending one's own life. We had a great conversation about how we would all benefit from getting government out of your healthcare choices, the compassionate ethical side of libertarianism and how it's a matter of life and death when it comes to your medical freedom. Thanks for tuning in. Let us know what you think about Medical Freedom. Brad Miller The Chronically Human Podcast Sent from ProtonMail Mobile

Episode 010: Is the FDA Killing You? A Discussion on the Impact of FDA Regulations on Americans' Lives with Dr. Mary Ruwart What impact do FDA (Food & Drug Administration) regulations have on Americans? Are they truly benign or could they be costing us not only extra money at the pharmacy but our lives? Today, Dr. Mary Ruwart and I discuss the true impact of FDA regulations and how they do in fact shave years off of our lives. With the passage of the 1962 amendments to the FDA the average time for a new drug to make to market has increased from 4-14 years. During that time, millions of Americans were potentially prevented from benefiting from useful pharmaceuticals. Conservative estimates put the cost of American years at between 5-10 lost due to these delays, loss of innovation, and increased costs. Listen in as Eric & Mary tell tales of the FDA battling the CDC recommendations for preventing neural tube defects (spina bifida) leading to a delay in alerting American women to cheap remedies and unexpectedly causing a tragedy worse than the Thalidomide debacle in Europe in the 1960s. Dr. Ruwart will present compelling evidence that not only has the FDA delayed drugs that could make our lives better and longer, but that it hasn't made drugs any safer either.Dr. Ruwart, former Upjohn researcher and author of the book, "Death by Regulation". show notes Mary Ruwart:The home page for Dr. Ruwart and her books, blog, and correspondence. Ron and Ed are pleased to welcome Dr. Mary Ruwart to the show to discuss her new book, Death by Regulation. During this episode we will explore how the FDA is directly affecting your life and the lives of millions, if not billions of people because of the 1962 Amendments to the Food & Drug Act which have shaved at least five years off of your lifespan without making drugs safer and more effective. In her new book, Death by Regulation: How We Were Robbed of a Golden Age of Health and How We Can Claim It, Dr. Mary Ruwart details how the FDA shifted our medical paradigm from inexpensive prevention to costly treatment, censored life-saving nutritional approaches to disease, added a decade to the time it takes to get a new drug from the lab bench to market place, destroyed over half of our medical/pharmaceutical/nutritional innovations, and caused the prices of drugs to soar without improving safety or effectiveness.

Death by Regulation: How We Were Robbed of a Golden Age of Health and How We Can Reclaim It In 1962, Congress passed possibly the deadliest regulations of all time: the 1962 Amendments to the Food & Drug Act. This “living law” continues to metastasize to this day, reshaping the pharmaceutical cartel, the supplement industry, the practice of medicine and transforming our health care paradigm from prevention to treatment. Research shows at least half of Americans who have died since 1962 lost about 10 years of their lives to the Amendments; in all likelihood, each of us has been affected. Dr. Ruwart's new book, Death by Regulation, is now available for purchase through Amazon or Death by Regulation Website Learn why Congress passed the Amendments in the first place? Have they made a difference? Find out how The Amendments added about 10 years to the time it takes for new drugs to get from the lab bench to the marketplace. They destroyed over 50% of our innovations and censored the dissemination of life-saving information. Dr. Mary J. Ruwart is a research scientist, ethicist, and a libertarian author/activist. She received her B.S. in biochemistry in 1970 and her Ph.D. in Biophysics in 1974. As a senior research scientist at UpJohn, Dr. Ruwart was involved in developing new therapies for a variety of diseases, including liver cirrhosis and AIDS. Dr. Ruwart left Upjohn in 1995 to devote her time to consulting and writing. She teaches communications courses for scientists and provides consulting services for nutraceutical companies, clinical research organizations, and universities. Dr. Mary Ruwart served with the Center for Applied and Professional Ethics at the Univ of N Carolina, designing a medical research ethics course for the University. Her radical application of ethics to medical regulation, especially regulations regarding pharmaceuticals, has life-and-death-implications. Since 1982, Dr. Ruwart has also been involved in societal ethics with a focus on the political theory and practice of libertarianism. Her award-winning international best-selling book, Healing Our World, demonstrates how the ethical application of libertarian principles has historically created harmony and abundance. Referencing hundreds of studies, Dr. Ruwart demonstrates that many of our current policies surreptitiously violate the basic ethical standards that we hold dear, thereby leading to unintended—and highly undesirable—consequences. Over the last three decades, Dr. Ruwart has often run for public office as a Libertarian Candidate, primarily to educate voters on the impact of ethical choices on their personal and financial well-being. Mary's 1st book: Healing Our World: The Compassion of Libertarianism Dr. Ruwart’s international best-selling book integrates the morality of Christianity, the ethical compassion of the liberal, the self-responsibility of New Age spirituality, and the practicality of real world politics to take the libertarian ideal to the next level. Most Americans think that FDA regulations protect them from harm. Sadly, this is rarely— if ever—the case. Dr. Mary Ruwart explains that more FDA regulation has actually caused more expensive drugs and increased premature deaths. Our FDA system is shockingly set up to keep drugs at higher costs while preventing citizens from learning about safer, natural answers. How did this happen? Dr. Ruwart shares exactly how the “1962 Amendments to the Food & Drug Act”—that were supposed to protect us from harm—have done the opposite. In this imperative talk you learn the dark details, and on the other hand, you also gain positive, protective actions that you and your family can take immediately. Dr. Mary J. Ruwart is a pharmaceutical research scientist, ethicist, and a libertarian author/activist. How does an environmental Libertarian think? What are his values? Is a Libertarian?s response to global warming to sweat it out and buy lots of sunscreen? Hardly. In this episode, Bob joins Dr. Mary Ruwart, a Libertarian who has studied environmental issues for most of her life, to learn why free markets are green markets.
