Teresa Mastrangelo is the founder and principal analyst for Broadband Trends, an independent market analysis firm specializing in telecommunications. Teresa has 31 years of experience and is one of the leading analysts in her field on Broadband infrastructure and services. She joins ConnectThe2 to discuss what she looks for in a pitch meeting, what she wishes PR firms would do differently, and what she likes best about working as an independent analyst rather than for a large firm. Quotes • “The main thing that I'm looking for in a briefing is why should I care? What am I talking to you about? What is it that you're offering that nobody else is doing? What's the wow factor? If you have a new product, what's different about it? What problems is it going to solve? … For me to care lets me explain this to everybody else and promote it. I'm looking for that opening to something unique and different that I believe is going to solve a problem and is something that the industry needs.” (06:04-06:55) • “There's always that company that's ahead of its time, and it sounds really great, but nothing really happens with them.” (30:04-30:09) • "[My proudest moment was] without a doubt it was being on NPR's All Things Considered, when I got to go to a studio and be interviewed about the emerging voiceover IP market. It was quite exciting because I had people I had not heard from in years – coworkers, friends from high school – who said, ‘Hey I heard you on my commute home on All Things Considered.' So, that was really cool to have people who honestly didn't know anything about what I do for my career hearing me on the show. That was one of my highlights for sure.” (33:36-34:20) Links https://www.broadbandtrends.com/blog-1 Learn more about Connect2 Communications: Website: https://www.connect2comm.com/ Podcast home page: https://www.connect2comm.com/podcast Twitter handle: @Connect2_Comm Instagram handle: @connect2_comm LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/connect2-communications Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Connect2-Communications

One challenge many caregivers have is how to both respond to the struggles their kiddos with FASD have in the school system and how to appropriately work within that system to make change. If you don't have access to an Education Advocate, then today's episode is going to help arm you with specific research-backed information from a professional who works with educators to identify integrated supports to reduce barriers to learning in schools. But don't worry – some of the tips and strategies she suggests are just as relevant for at-home learning and we break it all down for you. Tracy Mastrangelo has focused her career on the social work and education field in both Alberta and the Yukon Territory. Her work has focused mainly on supporting families and children/youth with complex needs, including as the Provincial Coordinator of Wellness, Resiliency and Partnerships (WRaP) an education-based initiative for students with FASD. Tracy has a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus on psychosocial interventions in school communities. “How do we provide integrated services into schools for students to reduce the barriers to learning? The business of school is to teach students and deliver curriculum. But we know for multiple different reasons some students have barriers to learning or things getting in the way of learning. “ In this podcast, we define and discuss her role in helping educators and students with both academic and non-academic barriers to learning. Our discussion also touches on her motto for teaching students and: The importance of and how parents and educators can develop a shared understanding of FASD. The complex and specific barriers to learning for students with FASD and why a “bottom-up intervention” model is more successful. Tips, strategies and targeted approaches she has incorporated for not only students she has worked with but her own children. We also delve into some studies and the three overarching themes that define her work, what she does for self-care and what she is doing now. We have had guests on previous podcasts that provided caregiver specific advice – this episode will not only validate what we heard and already know – caregivers are the experts when it comes to their kids and what they need – but it will also let you know about some of the unique ways people are working to incorporate FASD into classroom settings. “I keep looking for opportunities to integrate research into practice because any way that I can take research and help be someone that integrates it into actual lessons and daily activities that can change practice and hopefully influence policy, it is those kinds of things that jam me and get me up in the morning.” Even if you don't have kids in school, I think you will still gain some insight into ideas about self-regulation and FASD. Check it out and let me know what you think or if you have any interesting programs in your school district. Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/FASDSUCCESS)
Christa shares how abundant loss and grief in her life/community enabled her to realize that the yoga practice is not limited by a physical space. It is something much bigger than our bodies, as the practice is always within us. This awareness gave her a sense of freedom, broke open physical boundaries and has made her practice more accessible. Additionally, by rediscovering one of her first loves, writing, Christa is opening a new community. Supporting the youth in her community has energized her again and she feels hopeful for the future. Christa shares these powerful nuggets of wisdom: - grief is held by love - we are meant to be in community - move to a place of contemplation - seek stillness - it's safe to listen to our bodies - yoga offers us a place to be in our bodies - the impetus of change exists - we can make a change - contemplation, meditation and conversation are the three practices that are important to Christa http://cmj.yoga https://www.instagram.com/christa_mastrangelo_joyce Email: jalayoga.christa@gmail.com tags: Christa, Mastrangelo, Joyce, yoga, Jala, Yoga, Founder, Where, Soul, Lives, Sean, https://wheresoullives.com

We also talked about her work as an artist, how both the book and oracle deck were created, and the magic of art in general We started out with Enchanted Fairy Tales, a collection of some of the most famous and beloved classic Fairy Tales Like Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, Thumbelina, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Sleeping Beauty. These stories have been adapted and beautifully illustrated by Judy. Then we switched gears to the oracle Deck which will take users on an exciting adventure of self-discovery and enlightenment with whimsical messages that will help you enhance your life and express your deepest feelings. It was a really fun and interesting show about some of my favorite topics: art, fantasy, oracle decks and fairy tales.

Carolyn Mastrangelo is running for answers. Her mother experienced early-onset Alzheimer's disease at a young age, and like everyone else, Carolyn never really got any answers as to why. In her search for a cause, and support, Carolyn and her friend, Barbara, created a race called Running 4 Answers. They chose to donate their proceeds to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund: www.curealz.org. Listen in to hear her story. Here's a bit more, in her own words: My name is Carolyn Mastrangelo. My mom had early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, starting at around the age of 55. I am a runner, and as a runner I look for races with causes I believe in. Despite looking throughout the tri-state area, I could not find a race benefitting Alzheimer’s. The idea to CREATE a race to benefit an Alzheimer’s organization brewed in my head for a few years. I became friends with a neighbor and fellow mom, Barbara Geiger. I told her the idea…she had fundraising and event planning experience, and I knew about running and races. Running 4 Answers, a race against Alzheimer’s, was born. Over our first 10 years we have donated $365,000 to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, an organization whose sole focus is research and one that uses every dollar donated toward that research. The three founding families pay for all the overhead expenses. Additionally, I am a personal trainer and nutrition coach with my own business for 7 years. I have been married to my husband, Paul, for 24 years. We have two daughters, Isabella (19) and Kate (almost 17). Learn more by visiting their website: https://running4answers.org/

When Christa lost her dad as a teenager, she felt a loss of control and battled with an eating disorder. Her body, mind and spirit felt disconnected. Christa discovered yoga, which made her feel alive and taught her to be comfortable with what is. Today, she creates a safe and trusted space through yoga, where she teaches and empower others to feel whole and united, through unconditional love and acceptance. Christa shares these powerful nuggets of life wisdom: - be comfortable with what is - find a trusted space, where you come home to yourself - get to know all of the wonderful richness that is there to be held - sometimes, we have to hold the hard stuff - we are strong - we are here to live with all facets of life - be present and alive for all of it - yoga can enable us to churn out the issues from our tissues - we are so much alike - if we can see our bodies in new way, then perhaps we can see all of life in a new way - enjoy the places of stillness and movement - keep showing up - with time and patience, the disconnected pieces in our lives, can become united again - let go of burden - let go of stories that do not serve you https://www.jalayogaflow.com/ tags: Christa, Mastrangelo, Joyce, Jala, Yoga, Flow, jalayogaflow.com, Shepherdstown, West, Virginia, Winchester, Virginia, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Ayurveda, storiesthatempower.com, stories that empower, empowering stories, empowerment stories, stories of empowerment, stories of empowering others, self empowerment stories, stories empower, inspire, inspiring, inspiration, uplift, uplifting, upliftment, hope, light, Sean

Sculptor and designer Fernando Mastrangelo was raised in Monterrey, Mexico and received his MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. Upon arriving in New York he landed a job working in the studio of the artist Matthew Barney, whose work would prove a lasting influence. An early sculptural work using sugar as a primary material was a major step for Fernando. His use of natural, granular materials cast in resin would become the foundation of his practice as both a sculptor and a furniture maker. In the wake of this first piece Fernando began a series of ambitious works experimenting with material as well as exploring, often controversially, his status as as a Latino artist. Avarice, a scale replica of an Aztec calendar, was cast out of Mexican white corn. Another work, Felix, a figurative sculpture of a coca-farmer was cast out of Cocaine. Further works drew on materials such as gunpowder, concrete, human ash, salt, and sand, always selected for both their formal and metaphorical qualities. In 2012, prompted by a large scale commission by Sean Parker, Fernando made a critical move away from figurative, narrative sculpture back towards abstraction. It was the beginning of an expansion of his practice into making functional design. Fernando’s work in furniture draws upon the processes he pioneered as a sculptor. His method of binding loose granular materials with an imperceptible layer of resin grant his objects a kind of surrealist quality. One can’t quite figure out how they remain solid. Recent work has focused on environmental issues and the expression of landscape through furniture. Additionally, Fernando’s non-profit In Good Company is dedicated to showing work by emerging designers and sculptors through an annual exhibition, the second installment of which is on view at his studio in East New York through mid October.I’d like to thank Fernando and his entire team at the studio, Michelle Rosique, Anna Karlin, Brian Caverly, Loie Hollowell, as well as all the participating artists and designers of In Good Company. Special thanks to Hannah Martin, senior design editor at Architectural Digest, who co-curated the show with Fernando. You can see my portrait of Fernando, shot with a body of work made in collaboration with Anna Karlin, at www.williamjesslaird.com/imageculture. My good ol' pal and youth ministry buddy Joe Mastrangelo drove up from Houston to join me for this whole episode. We chatted about his ministry, how his parish is doing something very different in order to evangelize their young people and what we can learn from thinking outside the box in the Church. We also were pitted in a vicious youth minister vs. youth minister trivia game with a perfect balance of questions about Catholicism and Pop Culture in the second segment. In the final segment, I asked Joe what he is passionate about and he answered coffee, so that's what we talked about. He compares coffee to evangelization about how a familial and home-y atmosphere can do a lot for a Church community.
